Kingpen Royale Live Resin Cartridge Review – Delicious and Potent

kingpen live resin review

This week, we will sample the Kingpen Royale live resin cartridges from Ember Valley. Over the recent years, the oft-reliable Kingpen has been plagued with counterfeit black market copies and failed pesticide tests. But with surprising tenacity, they have recently teamed up with Ember Valley and recently undergone a soft rebrand that includes their new live resin cartridges. Kingpen Royale live resin cartridges are now available in half and full grams in select dispensaries throughout California. For our review today, I will try the new Kingpen Royale live resin cartridges from Ember Valley.

Pros:

  • Excellent quality
  • Strong potency
  • Solid effects
  • Delicious taste
  • Decent price

Cons:

  • None

Recommendations: None

The new Kingpen Royale has an updated look

The new updated packaging for their Royale live resin cartridges is far classier and more elegant than their previous versions. Now, their cartridges are packaged in black square-sized steel tin cases. When opening the case, the cartridge comes inside a black recycled plastic tube with its name printed in gold embossed letters. Previously the logo design and lettering for their distillate cartridges were printed in plain white. The design and lettering for their Royale cartridges are embossed in gold. Their original Kingpen logo artwork is replaced with the Royale name logo for these live resin cartridges.

Oil looks similar to Surplus, not quite as dark as other live resin cartridges

The design and quality for their new live resin CCELL cartridges is a true step up from their older cartridge models. They have much better airflow and efficient performance. I had little to no issues throughout most of this live resin cartridge. The color of the oil is somewhat lighter than usual, similar to the Surplus purified live resin cartridge I tried this month. On the other hand, it wasn’t quite as dark as the Ammo Brand live resin cartridges, the Connected live resin disposables, and the Dab Logic solventless vape cartridge.

kingpen live resin close up

Tasted better and much smoother than Surplus Cartridge Co, Permanent Holiday and Ammo Brand

This month, I picked up a full gram Kush Cake live resin cartridge from Kingpen Royale. Kush Cake, also known as Double Kush Cake, is an Indica dominant hybrid cross between Cherry Pie and Girl Scout Cookies. The gassy taste of this Kush Cake cartridge is sweet, earthy, and nutty with subtle hints of lemon, vanilla, and cherries. This live resin cartridge tasted better and much smoother than the live resin cartridges from Surplus Cartridge Co, Permanent Holiday, and Ammo Brand.

Effects felt slightly weaker than Alpine, Buddies, Heavy Hitters, Connected disposables

The initial effects of Kush Cake felt cerebrally uplifting and euphoric. Then it was followed with deeply relaxing effects that are felt throughout the body. So the effects would be best enjoyed towards the latter half of the day. Or it would also be well-suited as a way to decompress after work during evenings. The effects felt slightly weaker than the live resin cartridges from Alpine, Buddies, Heavy Hitters as well as the Connected disposables. On the other hand, this live resin also felt stronger than Surplus Cartridge Co., Ammo Brand, and Timeless Noir

Felt stronger than Surplus Cartridge Co., Ammo Brand, and Timeless Noir

The retail price for Kingpen Royale live resin cartridges is roughly around $50-60 for a full gram. In my opinion, this Kush Cake live resin cartridge was one of the stronger and tastier recent ones I’ve tried since the ceramic live resin cartridges from Alpine Vapor. Kingpen has significantly improved its brand by collaborating with Ember Valley for their latest live resin cartridges and prerolls.

The new Kingpen Royale live resin cartridges are highly recommended, especially their collaborations with Ember Valley

In conclusion, the new live resin cartridges from Kingpen Royale are highly recommended for their excellent quality, strong potency, and delicious taste. Specifically, I would recommend checking out their recent collaborations with Ember Valley. Overall, I would rank this one next to the sauce cartridges from Pacific Stone, Friendly Farms, and Legion Of Bloom. Kingpen Royale live resin cartridges, original distillate cartridges, and infused pre-rolls can be found in select dispensaries throughout California through their store locator here.

Litl 1 Review – Portable and Inexpensive Vaporizer, Not The Most Effective

litl 1 review

In this review, we have the Litl 1 dry herb vaporizer. This compact and portable vape battery is very simple to use, as simple as one button. Furthermore, this vaporizer is pretty inexpensive, compared to many dry herb vaporizers in the market. Convenient, discrete, and simple, but not the most effective nor efficient.

Pros:

  • Simple to use
  • Portable and discrete
  • Compact

Cons:

  • Only one temperature setting
  • Small chamber
  • Moderate hits, not the strongest/most effective

Recommendations: Provide a bigger chamber and different temperature settings as well. But, for its price, it’s a pretty fair value.

Check out our video review on the Litl 1 vaporizer below.

Litl 1 vaporizer – Small, compact, and easy to use

dry herb vaporizer
The packaging is simple, only comes with a charger.

Unpacking the Litl 1 vaporizer, you’ll notice right away that the size of this device is a relatively small device for a vaporizer. Almost the same size as the Yocan Vane, this vaporizer is the size of your palm and is great for its portability and discreteness. Furthermore, the Litl1 is such a simple vaporizer to use, great for those starting with vaporizers.

How to use

Using the Litl 1 vaporizer is so simple to use, as easy as a click of a button and just start vaping. Because it only has one temperature setting, you just turn on the Litl 1 and wait until it heats up, that’s it. To use this vaporizer, simply:

  1. Pack your herbs in the chamber
  2. Press the button 5 times to turn it on
  3. Wait until it heats up then enjoy your session

Litl 1 provides an auto-heat feature and only one temperature setting

As mentioned earlier, this vaporizer is made to be as simple to use as possible. Providing only one button and one temperature setting, you don’t have to do anything other than turn it on. Once on, the vaporizer will automatically heat up and vibrate to indicate that it is ready.

Moreover, this one temperature feature may be good for its convenience. But for others, some people might prefer a vaporizer that allows you to change the temperature. The Litl 1 single temperature setting is 215 degrees Celsius. Fair enough for some decent hits, but that’s the only setting you get. Not necessarily the strongest vaporizer in the market.

Fairly lasting sessions, not the biggest heating chamber

dry herb vaporizer
Being a compact device, the heating chamber is fairly small as well.

The one thing about the Litl 1 vaporizer, well because it is a pretty small device, the heating chamber is pretty compact as well. Ideal for a single-user session. Of course, as with most dry herb vaporizers, you will still get the most of your herbs. You will also save bud because of how small the chamber actually is. You just have to pack it consistently, and sessions may be somewhat short.

Convenient and moderately effective, not the most efficient

Providing fairly thick hits, yet quick sessions, the Litl1 vaporizer works pretty well for what it is. Although your sessions will be quick, it’s still a small pack. Furthermore, it is still great for quick, on-the-go sessions, but it doesn’t deliver very potent hits. Although it may not hit light or weak, it does deliver fair hits. But you won’t get many strong or as efficient hits.

The Litl 1 provides a unique airflow control feature

litl 1 vape
Located right underneath the vaporizer itself is where you can find to adjust the airflow.

Unlike most vaporizers, the Litl 1 comes with an airflow control feature. Despite not having much control other than switching it open/close, as shown above, it’s still unique for a cheap vaporizer. It’s nothing like the Utillian 421, where you have much more control over the airflow. But it does cost double, for its price range, there aren’t any vaporizers I’m aware of with this feature.

For its price, pretty good value, especially for beginners

Currently, the Litl 1 vaporizer goes for $40, which is a pretty fair value for a dry herb vaporizer. In comparison to most dry herb vaporizers, they’re usually double if not triple in price. Not the highest quality vaporizer nor effective, but then again a great alternative for an inexpensive vaporizer. One that delivers fair performance, simplicity, and great for those starting to smoke herbs.

Summarizing the Litl 1 vaporizer review

litl 1 vaporizer
Overall, the Litl 1 is a compact, discrete, and inexpensive vaporizer. Great for its portability and convenience, but not as much for its effectiveness.

To conclude, the Litl 1 vaporizer is a great, cost-effective, dry herb vaporizer that delivers decent performance. Not the highest quality vaporizer in the market, but still decent for its price. The closest vaporizer to one like this at its price is the Yocan Vane, both well for its portability, but just not the strongest hits. You can learn more about the Litl 1 vaporizer here.

The Top 10 Fake Vape Carts That Rip Off A Popular Franchise

0

We all get it, vapes are here to stay. We like vapes here. We just don’t like the black market ones, because who wants garage-made boof from amateur home chemists?

But we hate it even more when they rip off a popular franchise, especially one loved by children. Why do we need that? Would you package cigarettes or booze that way? Just look at these ridiculous specimens:

cart-toon-cartridges-sponge-bob-1024x1001

#1: Spongebob Squarepants

This is the kind of thing we have a special snit about. Come on, little kids watch this show. True, ol’ cheese-head is still popular with all age demographics and memed all over the web anyway, but that’s because it appeals to the kid at heart. Anywho, if you sell an adult product in packaging which a five-year-old could mistake as something for them, you’re a dick.

Monopoly_carts_with_cartoons

#2: Monopoly Carts

Just to show how wild it’s gonna get here, this is an example of black market packaging that makes no sense whatsoever. Of all the board games, why Monopoly? Then let’s double down by using completely random cartoon characters. It’s not many places where you can see the same product sporting characters from Harvey Comics, Fleischer Studios, and Disney. They still use the Monopoly man mascot (his name is Rich Uncle Pennybags, now you know), just so you know that the package printers actually have no idea what they’re doing.

Boom_carts_Marvel_characters

#3: Boom Carts (Marvel & D.C. comics)

Boom, a name which warns you how hard you’ll hit the floor after vaping one, prints random comic characters rendered by some nameless sweatshop artist, or possibly even ripped off from a DeviantArt shop for all we know. Mostly Marvel, but they drift in D.C. too. Likely because they don’t know the difference.

Willy_Wonka_carts

#4: Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory

We contacted the spirit of the late genius Gene Wilder to find out how he felt about his character being used to hawk boof drugs. He climbed straight out of the Ouija board and swore to find those responsible and kick them right in their everlasting gobstoppers.

Star_Carts

#5: Star Wars

Of course you knew this was coming. Insert your own Yoda jokes here. By the way, there should be a national “Talk Like Yoda” day just like with the pirates. And we’re not the only ones to discover Star Carts (stupid puns!). This cartoonist sums it up:

Star_Carts_political_cartoon

See? THAT’S how you pun! Darth Vaper! Leave it to the experts.

Power_Puff_Girls_vape_cart

#6: Power Puff Girls

It is inevitable that the Power Puff Girls would show up on vape cartridges. Black market dealers just can not resist a name with “puff” in it. We’re surprised there isn’t a “Puff the Magic Dragon” cartridge, and if there is one, please do not tell us.

Mario-Carts-Vape-Cartridge-600x600

#7: Super Mario Brothers

It’s hard to believe how anybody can buy these. You out there, do you like having your intelligence insulted? Do you actually believe that Nintendo would sign on for this? If so, what kind of mushrooms have you been eating?

more-cereal-carts

#8: Cereal Mascots (various)

This one is especially baffling. Somewhere early on in the original black market vape wave, somebody thought “cereal”! Because apparently it’s part of an imbalanced breakfast? Not to mention the brands they went with. Nobody but Generation X remembers Franken-Berry and Boo Berry, and hardly any of them would trade their crusty glass bongs for a vape anyway.

bart-carts-vape-cartridges

#9: The Simpsons

Somewhere in China, a fake vape cart magnate is very, very rich because they thought of Bart Carts. These were everywhere a couple years back.

Cartnite_cartridges

#10: Fortnite

How random is this? Sure, Fortnite is a popular online shooter, but once again there is no reason to target that demographic unless you’re specifically trying to sell to underage kids. Even if you’re a grown-up gamer (who isn’t?), since when are you going to say, “Ah yes, a brand knocking off Fortnite, I’ll bet they know quality cannabis concentrates”?

In Conclusion, can we knock this crap off at least?

Listen, we’re done preaching to people about what to vape. Vape hot dog water, we don’t care, we just won’t come to the funeral. But you’re an informed adult making a consensual decision. We find all these on the ground at playgrounds and around schools. We can package our drugs, boof or not, in any other way without invoking entertainment franchises.

For instance, you want a vape cart with a politician on it, here you go, go nuts.

Readers, we have a forum where you can share more finds or even enter the occasional giveaway (among 21+ age adults). Join the club here and we’ll learn ya’ stuff about cannabis you never knew you didn’t know.

Is Your Dispensary Safe? Maybe Not In Michigan!

Michigan_dispo_busts-1024x576

Finally, a new season of Fake Cart Detective! And this time we get to go somewhere besides California!

Constantly here on DabConnection, we preach the eternal message: Avoid deadly lung injury by avoiding fake carts, shop only at licensed dispensaries. And that still holds true for the most part. Emphasis on “licensed,” because unlicensed cannabis shops in California get busted all the time. California is ground zero for so much black market activity, it seems like every other state has its act together in comparison to Cali.

Well, it’s time to let some other state have the spotlight. Michigan looks to be a rising contender for most troubled cannabis market. We do hear some distraught Yoopers calling out from there once in awhile, but when we finally get around to checking it out, we have no idea how it got this bad…

Choices_fake_cart_DHGate-992x600

Choices is a fake cart brand rolling around Michigan

A reader reached out to us to inquire about Choices brand vape carts, which they found in Michigan. The Choices gimmick is they come bundled in two cartridges per package, each a .5 gram, each supposed to be a different flavor. Long story short, we find no company behind Choices, but we find the empty packaging right away on Vapes Wholesale, DHGate, and other fake brand packaging websites.

Choices_fake_cart_brand-768x435

Once again, even if a brand was legit at one time, the fact that they’re sold far and wide as empty packages to be filled by the anonymous buyer indicates that most of the ones you encounter will be fake. As it is, we see Choices carts being reported all over the r/fakecarts subreddit, so we’ll leave it at that and move on.

UPDATE 8/27/21: A Choices cart just sent somebody to the hospital, as reported on Reddit:

Choice-carts-fake

This time it was in Illinois, so still sticking to the Midwest. The victim was having “a seizure, spitting up blood and shaking like a dog in the cold.” Graphic, but it goes to show what can happen. The problem is that an uncontrolled and unregulated product has no quality control, so you’re gambling with your life.

Michigan_dispensary_Danks-286x600

If your dispensary is selling Danks, report them!

This was the Reddit report which made us get concerned for Michigan’s cannabis scene. If your medical dispensary is selling Danks and is openly advertising them on WeedMaps, you know something has gone horribly, horribly wrong! That report was posted on Reddit just this last weekend.

Utterly, without question, Dank is the one fake THC vape cart name which should send you running away! “Dank” is a name which should be synonymous with lung damage, vitamin E, popcorn lung, pesticides, heavy metals, lead poisoning, and patients on ventilators at the hospital.

Twitter_hospital_lung_damge_fake_vape

I don’t care if they make the oil right in front of you, NEVER TRUST A DANK CART! This is going beyond individual health and becoming a public moral issue. Even if you get lucky and don’t die from it, dozens of people have died from them and thousands more hospitalized. Buying a Dank cart is giving your money to people who don’t care about the public’s health. Anybody who offers this brand for sale should be black-listed out of the cannabis market. This brand is supported by blood money.

There are of course thousands of fake cartridge brands out there. There are so many that it comes down to compiling periodic top ten fake cart brands lists. But Danks is one case where it was one of the first black market brands to get attention, well-covered by mainstream media. Word should have gotten around about them, and yet here they are for sale at a medical dispensary, no less!

Michigan has a sketchy dispensary problem

So this Reddit thread has a customer showing the brand Savage Sticks, that they picked up at a Michigan dispo. Elite Wellness, you recall from the story above. A comment on that page says that Elite Wellness will sell you a boof cart but makes customers sign a waiver first to acknowledge that they’re buying an unlicensed cart and know the risks.

This has to be a joke, right?

But here is an official news source, and I quote:

> “The Marijuana Regulatory Agency ended a practice that lasted from January 2019 through April of last year under which caregivers were able to sell untested product directly to provisioning centers for sale, so long as customer signed waivers acknowledging they knew the risks.”

That is Savage Sticks, recalled in January 2020 in Michigan due to vitamin E acetate contamination concerns. The Reddit thread we just showed is from just 2 weeks ago. So maybe they cleaned up their act, but it’s still darned risky vaping a Savage Stick cart from Michigan.

Here’s another boof brand which a Redditor says came from ZaZa, a Michigan dispensary. This time there is no question of the authenticity; the “D” logo is taken from the Detroit Tigers baseball team. The other cart they show, Ace, doesn’t even have dispensary stickers.

Generally every time we see the Michigan dispo scene discussed, people just seem to accept that dispos there will sell fake product and nobody is even complaining, at least not where it counts. But is that just Reddit gossip, or are official sources pointing to an issue as well?

Michigan dispensary raids!

The raid stories go on and on in Michigan. Back when the vape lung injury epidemic was still breaking health news, in November of 2019, the Detroit Metro Times reported:

> “Black-market THC cartridges are easy to find in Michigan because the state has done little to address the proliferation of illicit delivery services that advertise on websites and apps such as WeedMaps and Craigslist. A Google search for marijuana delivery services in Michigan lists dozens of websites that illegally sell untested vape cartridges in legit-looking packaging under the names Chronic Carts, Dank Vapes, Fruity Pebbles, Dr. Zodiak, Exotic Carts, and Fwaygo.”

There it is, Dank vapes! Remember kids, tell your plug that Dank is stank!

Danks_at_district3_Michigan-920x1536

And here’s another Michigan dispo selling Danks, reported 2 years ago.

One weird thing about Michigan regulation is that the state government is obsessed with nicotine vapes not falling into kids’ hands, to the point where they just turn a deaf ear to anything else. The governor banning “flavored e-cigarettes” there even prompted dispensaries to have a buyback-exchange program for THC / CBD vapes instead. It could be that they are simply not caught up on the concept that cannabis can be vaped too.

This is pointed out in September 2019 in just about that many words: “And by attacking nicotine e-cigarettes and ignoring the cannabis vaping crisis, Whitmer and Michigan health officials have confused the public and directed attention away from the growing popularity of illicit cannabis cartridges.”

Use caution when vaping cannabis in Michigan

Now information about bunk vapes in Michigan is tough to dig up, for two reasons: (1) COVID blows all other health news off the front page, and (2) California’s cannabis black market is so loud that it drowns out the other 50 states combined. Nevertheless, even though some of these stories are a year or two old, the more recent reports indicate that considerable black market activity in the Michigan cannabis market is ongoing.

Normally we tell everyone: Get your product from a dispensary to ensure safety. With Michigan however, all bets are off.

Bottom line, we promise to keep a closer eye on Michigan. Great Lakes folks, you can help by reporting any black market product sightings, busts, or raids in Michigan here in the comments. You can also try out our forum, we promise it doesn’t bite.

A couple of months ago our editor Pete compiled a tour of Nevada dispensaries. Here we specifically go through the best dispensaries in Las Vegas, Nevada. I haven’t been to every single dispensary but we have been to a lot of them and researched the menus around town. I also searched out the deals to see what dispensaries have the best deals. This list is primarily based on which dispensaries have the best prices in town.

Oasis Cannabis Dispensary

oasis-cannabis-dispensary-1024x576

Founded in 2015 and close to Downtown Las Vegas, Oasis Cannabis is open until 2:30 am. Carts sometimes cost just over $20. They have great sales and promotions. If you go to the Oasis page on Dank Oil you can see what their latest deals are. You can also find more info about them on their website.

In addition to great deals, you may also get free bonuses when there. When I went to Oasis I also got a free T-shirt and a pair of socks. They also offer delivery.

Planet 13 Dispensary

planet-13-las-vegas-1024x683

Planet 13 Dispensary is another store with great deals. Their retail outlet near the Las Vegas Strip is the largest cannabis dispensary in the world measured by square footage at 40,000. Their staff is also very helpful and knew the menu well.

This is one of those stores where you walk in and if the prices are standard they can be pretty expensive but if you check their deals you can find some great stuff for low prices.  You need to sign up for their loyalty program to get the best deals. They also offer delivery.

Here is a recent screenshot of Planet 13’s local deals page, just to give you an idea:

Planet-13-deals

You can see a definite difference between local and tourist prices. This is one of the standard rules for anything in Las Vegas, come to think of it.

The Dispensary NV – Decatur, Eastern Express, and Henderson Locations

the-dispensary-las-vegas-1024x576

The Dispensary has stores in Las Vegas, Reno, and Henderson. They offer a wide selection of quality cannabis products–including flower, vapes, edibles, topicals, and concentrates.  Their Decatur location is the store I go to the most, but both locations offer great pricing and deals.

Their house brands are really good.  Sometimes here you will find 500mg Kanji vapes for 2 for $40, one of the best THC vape deals in Nevada. Their text deals are awesome and what you should sign up for them to find out their best deals. However, even if you do not sign up when you go there the deals are generally posted too. The staff also has great knowledge of the products and is really helpful.

Another bonus is you get credit for each time you shop that can be redeemed towards various items and works at both shops. I use it for a discount on my overall purchases. They also offer delivery.

Honorable Mentions

These dispensaries below are worth a mention since they are also great.

Essence Cannabis Dispensary

essence-cannabis-dispensary-768x490

Essence Cannabis Dispensary usually has prices that are a bit higher than the above-mentioned shops, but there are some discounts you can apply that get the prices close to some of the dispensaries mentioned above. They have five stores in or near Las Vegas. One of those stores is directly on the strip. We checked into strip one recently and found prices getting even higher there, reflecting the inflation that has been rampant in 2021-2022, so Essence might have even less to recommend it.

We did a review of Essence Tropican West and that location particularly has one of the best selections of vape cartridges in all of Nevada. Their staff is also very helpful and knowledgeable about their products. They also offer delivery.

Google Maps links for Essence locations:

Acres by Curaleaf

Although I have not been to Acres yet, they frequently have good deals so they are worth a mention. If you are in the area near Acres check the top of their menu page for current specials. They also offer delivery.

2023 update by Miles

As I reflect on the past year and my weed purchases, I start to think of the best places I’ve picked up over the past year. Being a long-time smoker and las vegas resident I’ve acquired a great ability to see thru scams and rip-offs. Sadly some of the local dispensaries do some sketchy things, that keep me away. But when I pick a place I’m looking at price, bulk, quality, and good service, in that order. That being said, the following are the top 3 dispensaries in my home city, Las Vegas.

Curaleaf

The spot that has had me come back time and time again is the Curaleaf dispensary. They have 2 locations that are very close to home, I can walk to either. Not having a car, this is key to my choices. Curaleaf just can not be beaten for its deals have been the best all year, right down to the 420 deal this year, which was off the hook with many amazing choices under $15.00. I picked up a few. They have some of the kindest staff in the industry, and they learn your name and order, that is good service. They have also been expanding their operation taking over some of the biggest dispensaries in our city. With a regular ½ oz at $50 and tax, you can not go wrong.

The Dispensary

The Dispensary, was a place that albeit very out of my way, had some of the highest quality products, with great taste and extremely well-cured flower would be the place I’d be going to daily for flower if I was a millionaire. It’s all well worth the price, just that I smoke the same if it’s $50 a ½ oz or $50 an 1/8th. So great for a treat, celebration or my birthday. The customer service was awesome here, everyone was open and friendly. I hope they open something in the middle of the city so I can stop in more often.

Oasis

As for a good price for a fair product, I’d have to end this with Oasis Dispensary. They do have great products, however, they have raised their prices over the past year and that for me is a big driver in where I purchase my products. They have a good friendly staff, kind budtenders who understand one’s needs, and they do not have that tip jar in your face as you see all over the place. I do keep a close eye on their menu for deals and specials and now and again, I do still get over there to pick up a deal.

The Federal Vape Mail Ban : Everything We Know

0

We saw this coming ahead of time, but it wasn’t until the law’s deadline arrived that the vaping industry started to panic. Briefly, there seems to be a Federal law banning ALL vaping products from being sent through the mail. However, the language of this wording is so broad that you could interpret it several ways.

We’re seeing many conflicting reports and interpretations about this ban. We will try to sort them out below:

smoking-kid-indonesia

Preventing Online Sales of E-Cigarettes to Children Act (2020)

The original bill was introduced by Senators Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) and John Cornyn (R-Texas). The bill was passed on December 21st, 2020, and was scheduled to go into effect April 27, 2021 (today as of this writing).

The Bill is presented as an amendment to the 2010 law, the Prevent All Cigarette Trafficking (PACT Act), which forbids direct sales of cigarettes to consumers through the mail. Here is the PACT Act fact sheet, and here is the text of the actual Preventing Online Sales of E-Cigarettes to Children Bill by Senator Feinstein.

USPS_delivery

The Postal Service is Delaying Implementation

There are huge issues with the way this bill is being interpreted. So much so that the US Postal Service has delayed implementing the bill because they’re frankly stumped at how to interpret it. The law also applies to FedEx and UPS, which has already said, quote, “they will follow the U.S. Postal Service’s directive and won’t ship vaping products.”

The USPS published a memo in the Federal Register to try to make a clear statement about their intended direction. In that memo, they specify “electronic nicotine delivery systems (ENDS),” and include details for an exception application process where companies can apply to claim their product as an exception. On the other hand, this is a sheet of impenetrable bureaucratic gobbledegook which leads off with a few sections about “alien physicians” (foreign-born medical students, not doctors from space). The upside here is that it seems to allow exceptions for both CBD and, possibly, some THC products!

At the same time, the exception approval process has the potential to be a bureaucratic backlog. HempToday quotes: “The Postal Service anticipates receiving ENDS-related applications at a rate several orders of magnitude above the historic norm.” The backlog to approving each individual product one at a time could be the actual ban, effectively delaying all products off the market.

vape_mail

Interpretation #1: The Law Doesn’t Ban Anything At All?

As we read it, the original PACT Act mandates that sellers of tobacco products:

    • Pay all applicable taxes (don’t they have to do this anyway?)
    • Comply with local laws pertaining to where the seller is located (they do this already, e.g., can’t buy Delta 8 through the mail in restricted states)
    • Register with the state and make periodic reports to state tax collectors
    • Verify adult ID both at time of purchase and upon delivery (is this really impossible?)

The new act simply extends PACT to cover vaping-related products. As the information sheet at Feinstein’s own website says, the bill merely requires online e-cigarette retailers to:

    • Verify the age of customers for all purchases
    • Require an adult with ID to be present for delivery
    • Label shipping packages to show they contain tobacco products
    • Comply with all state and local tobacco tax requirements

Again, none of these constitute a “ban” as we read it. We already take such precautions for other mail-order adult-only purchases. The USPS has standards in place for cases where you have to show ID to pick up a delivery.

Interpretation #2: The Law Bans Everything in the Universe?

The PACT Act revisions are extended to cover a range of things detailed as “e-cigarettes, e-hookahs, e-cigars, vape pens, advanced refillable personal vaporizers, or an electronic pipe,” plus “any component, liquid, part, or accessory” of these devices. The language is both wonkily out of touch – what the hell is an “e-hookah”? – and so broad that you could probably apply it to a prescription asthma inhaler. No really:

> “any electronic device that, through an aerosolized solution, delivers nicotine, flavor, or any other substance to the user inhaling from the device.”

That “ANY substance” part is the kind of language that makes government regulation implementation fall apart. Air fresheners? Incense? Aromatherapy? Sinus spray? You could go on all day. We’re surprised the whole post office isn’t shut down.

There is a provision in the bill exempting products which are FDA-approved for “any other therapeutic purpose,” but that’s almost null and void anyway because the FDA doesn’t currently approve anything cannabis-related except for a narrow range of prescription products. The FDA doesn’t approve vitamins and baby formula; you can forget vaping stuff.

best delta 8

Interpretation #3: The Law Applies to CBD and Delta 8 Products

Even though hemp-derived products are legalized by the Farm Bill as long as they contain less than 0.3% THC, this ban is said by some to apply to CBD and Delta 8 vaping devices. Vaping360 asserts:

> “The postal ban and PACT Act provisions will include all e-liquid and oil vaping devices, nicotine and nicotine-free e-liquids, CBD and delta 8 carts, liquids and oils, and every related component, part or accessory intended for those products.”

Perhaps the authors there are taking a broad interpretation and hyping the panic just a tad. Particularly, small retailers are said to be up in arms about this legislation, because even though the regulations still permit operation, most small businesses can’t operate under such a burden of red tape and still make a profit.

Again we have the fog of uncertainty over government intent. From the Postal Service memo to Diane Feinstein’s bill, we see constant confusion between tobacco, nicotine, THC, CBD, Delta 8, and even any plain old inhaled thing. You have to find and question each author to discover if they intended to single out CBD or they’re just too out of the loop to understand the concept that not all inhaled products are for ingesting tobacco. I’d be willing to bet that if you took a poll of Congress today, there would be several members who thought CBD comes from tobacco.

everything-is-broken

Potential Fall-Out?

For one thing, this might hopefully cut off some of the criminal end of the vape industry, both the vape scam sites and the black market vape cart packaging pipeline. However, given that several laws against these criminal elements already exist and they’re still available on every street corner, one more law might not even slow them down.

In fact, the legit, licensed, and responsible retailers and manufacturers of these products might be hardest hit. This could have a blowback effect of driving even more people to the black market, making an already crisis situation that much worse.

Delta 8 and CBD forums all over the web are practically frantic with the news. Bear in mind, many users need hemp derivatives for both medically-approved treatment and personal therapy reasons. A bill aimed originally at preventing children from smoking tobacco (with the reasoning that it increases their risk of COVID, no less!) is now threatening the entire inhaled product industry.

For one more possible wrinkle: This could also speed the adoption of legalization for brick-and-mortar dispensaries in the states. All federal laws applying to USPS don’t apply when it comes to B2B industrial shipping.

Bottom line take-away:

If you depend on these products and have a legit channel to acquire them, buy them while you still can. Or maybe not; we’ve seen overarching draconian legislation fail before because it was impossible to implement. This particular logjam was signed during the Trump administration, after all.

Readers… Uh, say things? Maybe in the comments below, maybe in the forum? Knock yourselves out. We’re going to go lie down for a while.

Unlicensed Dispensaries Actually Get Raided All the Time

Dispensary_raids

We here at DabConnection have made a bit of a reputation for ourselves as consumer advocate watchdogs. It’s what ends up happening in an emerging industry; you settle into your niche and everybody ends up with a specialty. We leave the fluff pieces to the other cannabis websites.

But we often end up sounding shrill, like we’re raging against a problem that nobody else is aware of. You hear us pointing the finger at dozens of fake cart operations, unlicensed distributors, shady testing labs, scam websites, and all the other bad news. You end up sounding like a prophet of doom this way. Who wants to be the Al Gore of pot?

Well, today we’re going to report some good news. Cannabis licensing regulation and authorities are aware of the epidemic and do take steps to reign it in. There have been some high-profile raids on illegal operations at all levels of the cannabis market.

Muha Meds : BUSTED!

Muha Meds is a fake brand saturating the North American market, which we have been reporting on for quite some time. Worse yet, we get threats and flame-back from street boof plugs who can’t keep selling this garbage when we report on it.

Just the other day, a comment came in from “pissed mom,” under our most recent Muha Meds post. It is worth preserving here:

Muha_Meds_are_deadly

For those of you wondering why we keep harping on cartridge safety, it’s for all the “pissed moms” out there with offspring in the hospital. This is far from the only horror story we hear about, there’s many more lung injuries and hospitalizations where that came from, even years now after the vape cart lung epidemic news broke out.

Well, it finally happened, a Muha Meds operation was busted in Los Angeles in March 2021, just last month. That location was raided by the California Bureau of Cannabis Control’s Cannabis Enforcement Unit – yes Virginia it exists – in conjunction with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, the California Department of Public Health, and the California Department of Tax and Fee Administration. All of which participated in the March 9th multi-location raid, netting 350K items including illegal vape cartridges, edibles, and concentrates with an estimated street value of $30 million.

We first caught wind of this story on the /r/fakecarts subreddit, where the story broke, as it usually does there, from sources on TikTok. We always have to find out word on the street this way and work our way back to a credible source. Raids like this don’t seem to make the headlines much.

Muha-Meds-raid-money

Anyway, we can’t dance in the street too hard about this, because a quick check of fake vape cart brand packaging retailer websites shows that more Muha Meds empties are ready to buy, fill, and trade on the street exactly like nothing happened.

more_Muhas_ready_to_go

However, that’s just the tip of the iceberg…

Knotts_Collective_raid

BCC Dispensary Raids

Dispensaries in California sometimes seem to do business with complete disregard for a license. The California Bureau of Cannabis Control raided two such locations in Bakersfield, California, in February of 2020. The two shops were Knotts Collective on Knotts Street and Backyard Organics on River Boulevard.

That raid seemed to be the result of an oversight on the company’s part, without much drama. However, a higher-profile raid in November of 2020 shut down California Medical Brokers Dispensary on Olive Avenue in Fresno, California. BCC agents there seized nearly $1 million in cannabis products and found a gun on the property as well.

That same article mentions another shop in the same district which was also raided back in September 2019. That was the Stuffed Pipe Smoke Shop.

Meanwhile, the BCC Twitter feed has become a stream of unlicensed dispensary busts. Warrants served on premises happen at least monthly there. Just a few more recent ones:

    • BCC Enforcement served a search warrant on an unlicensed Costa Mesa dispensary known as The Holy Fire. (4/22/21)
    • BCC Enforcement served two search warrants – one on an unlicensed manufacturer/distributor in Santa Ana and another on an unlicensed cultivator/distributor located in Salida. (April 2021)
    • BCC investigators served another warrant on an unlicensed dispensary known as Church of Hundred Harmonies, located in La Puente. (3/16/21)
    • BCC’s Enforcement Unit served a search warrant on an unlicensed cannabis cultivation located in Ontario, California. (March 2021)
    • BCC Enforcement Unit served a multi-location search warrant on an unlicensed distributor/cultivator in Woodland Hills. (3/4/21)
    • BCC Enforcement served a multi-location search warrant on an illegal delivery service in the OC. (2/25/21)

As you can see, the California Bureau of Cannabis Control stays busy! They bust unlicensed cannabis operations of every kind, including dispensaries, cultivators, delivery services, and distributors.

police_raid_edibles

fake_WCC_raid

By the way, that extends to farmer’s markets too! In July 2020, the BCC also broke up a simple gathering in, again, Fresno, California. We’ve mentioned the underground sesh movement before, as a speculative half-stop for those areas where licensed legal channels for weed are scarce. But this does not apply in California, which practically has a dispensary on every corner by now. Sometimes even a licensed one.

As we look it up, the cost of cannabis business licensing in California starts in the low thousands for a retail storefront but can go up to six figures for a cultivation / extraction facility. Granted, the higher end of that starts to look like serious money, but you’re selling pot in California, it’s a multi-billion-dollar industry. Why so many businesses just neglect this is a puzzle.

For a reminder, California BCC has licensed dispensaries required to put their proof of license up at the front of the store in QR code form. Scan it before you go in, you’re good.

Unlicensed dispensaries hurt more than just customers

Imagine taking a job as a security guard, getting assigned to a post that happens to be a cannabis dispensary, and then one day you’re getting arrested without knowing you were doing anything wrong? That’s just the situation with one young adult interviewed on Politico. There’s a growing problem where people are getting jobs in the cannabis industry, only to find out their employer wasn’t legally solvent. It’s quite an experience to see your boss getting hauled off in handcuffs and you have rent due.

And once again, we have to make a case for the legit, licensed companies that get their act together. Doing business with an unlicensed supplier takes business away from those legit operators who are trying to play by the rules. The whole point to cannabis legalization in the first place was to make cannabis enjoyment safer and a crime-free process. What happened?

Readers, do you have any tips for recent high-profile raids and busts in the cannabis industry? We especially like hearing about fake brands getting busted. Tip us off here in the comments or in our cozy and secluded forum.

FLOAT Full-Spectrum Distillate Oil Cart Review – Strong but Expensive

float review

Today, I will be reviewing a new distillate oil cartridge by FLOAT, a Florida-based brand with products that are made from full spectrum cannabis. Their portfolio includes flower, kief, shatter, pre-rolls, soft wax, and crumble in varying presentations and strain types. You can find FLOAT products at Surterra Wellness.

Pros:

  • Strong
  • Good oil consistency
  • Lasts longer than other cartridges

Cons:

  • Price
  • After Taste
  • Packaging

Recommendations: Evaluate the price to match the quality of the product. The flavor was not as good as I expected and for $50.

float line up

Not really impressive considering the price

I bought this ½ gram cartridge of Goji OG for $50.00, a high price in comparison to similar products like the “Big Daddy’s Edibles” distillate THC oil, which has 3 grams for $100 or a ½ gram pre-filled cartridge for $35.00. Considering the price paid I wasn’t impressed with the hardware. The AVD easy-press is a cartridge that is breath-activated and compatible with 510 thread batteries cartridge. The toxin-free glass has a plastic barrel mouthpiece and features a ceramic coil and organic cotton wick.

Goji OG won 1st place concentrate and 3rd place Hash awards @ the Seattle High Time Cannabis Cup. This is a SOAR cartridge (Sativa), that’s what Sativa products are called at Surterra Wellness. This FLOAT cartridge can be vaped at any time of the day; you won’t be tired or in need of a nap.

float box

Harsh after taste

In the beginning, you could taste a sweet explosion of strawberries and fruit punch; really sweet and creamy in your mouth leaving a tropical fruity mix of berries fragrance in the air. The problem is that after 3 hits you could feel it harsh on your throat though. As a result, I started to vape this cartridge @ 3.7 I ended up lowering it to 3.5 to see if it would be easy on my throat but it was still harsh.

The high was an active one. I had a full day where I ran errands and did all types of activities while staying focused and motivated enough to keep being productive. I felt relaxed but not tired – big difference!!! By relaxed, I mean that it helped me in stressful situations and instead of panicking or getting paranoid like with other strains, this one helped me keep my cool and composure while not being over medicated. No matter how many times I hit this cartridge, the high would intensify but I didn’t get tired. With other cartridges I would’ve gotten just as high but usually to the point of taking a weed nap! The effects on me were great this the right strain if you want to keep on the move and have a lot to do. Now while this cartridge didn’t get me tired it did get me super hungry!

Effects:

  • Focused
  • Creative
  • Hungry
  • Relaxed
  • Happy
  • Euphoric
  • Uplifted

The THC levels are 83%

The CBD levels are 0.23%

Concluding our review

In conclusion: I rate this cartridge a 6.5 of 10. The high was really strong and great for the daytime. It’s good for someone who wants to be in the creative active mode. Other than the potency I wasn’t impressed with the flavor and how it felt harsh on my throat. After a couple of puffs, I ended up not vaping as much because of the harshness on my throat. This made it difficult to enjoy the cartridge. For $50.00 I would expect better hardware, taste, and packaging.

Personally, the THC levels are not all that matters. I enjoy the flavor profiles and I wasn’t satisfied with this product. The harshness reminds me of some Timeless Cartridges I’ve tried before where the flavor didn’t match the price or potency. If you are going to sell an expensive product, you have to make sure not only that the effects are good but that the flavor profiles, packaging, and everything is really good. That’s because it doesn’t matter how strong the cartridge is, if it doesn’t taste good I won’t buy it again and that’s what happened with this product; I didn’t like how my throat hurt after a few hits.

If you ask me if I would buy this product again, only if they have a BOGO or a high % off. Therefore I think that it’s overpriced for the quality of the product.

Today we will take a look at The Dip E-Rig vaporizer from VapeDynamics. VapeDynmaics currently offers some of the sleekest herb and wax pen vaporizers.  The Dip E-Rig vaporizer currently runs for $179.95 on their website. We will detail our experience objectively as always in our non-affiliate reviews. For this review, I will take a look at the pros and cons of the Dip E-Rig vaporizer.

Pros:

  • Solid ergonomic design
  • Excellent battery strength
  • Highly efficient performance
  • Smooth taste with both flower and wax
  • Lower price than other E-Rigs

Cons:

  • None

Recommendations: None

dip e rig box

The Dip E-Rig is a more user-friendly and slightly more compact version of the Focus V Carta E-Rig and The Core E-Rig

The Dip E-Rig is easily one of the most compact and easiest E-Rig to use on the vaporizer market. The sleek build quality and ergonomic design is very similar to a more user-friendly and slightly more compact version of the Focus V Carta E-Rig and The Core E-Rig. The Dip E-Rig kit includes

  • The Dip E-rig w/ 4200 maH battery (which consists of the base of the device, the atomizer, carb cap w/ tether, and silicone travel cap)
  • 1 carb cap
  • 1 ceramic chamber
  • A stainless steel dab tool
  • 1 connector ring
  • 1 set of swabs
  • USB power plug
  • USB cable

dip e rig inside case

The battery for the Dip E-Rig feels more efficient and longer-lasting than The Core E-Rig and Focus V Carta

The 4200 mAH battery has a more ergonomic design that feels more comfortable in your hand than the battery for the Focus V Carta. The battery feels more efficient and longer-lasting than other similar E-Rigs such as The Core E-Rig and Focus V Carta. Operating this E-Rig is very intuitive and user-friendly, especially if you have previously owned a Focus V Carta, The Core E-Rig or any similar E-Rig.

  • Charge the battery
  • Fill the glass bubbler with a third of the water
  • Align the glass bubbler back onto the base of the battery
  • Unscrew the atomizer
  • Unscrew the lid for the atomizer
  • Load your preferred extract into the ceramic bucket
  • Insert ceramic bucket onto the atomizer
  • Screw the lid back onto the atomizer
  • Turn on the device by pressing the power button 3 times quickly
  • Select your desired temperature setting by pressing the power button once quickly

Temperature Settings for The Dip E-Rig:

Blue  450 degrees Low
Green 500 degrees Medium
Purple 550 degrees Medium-High
White 600 degrees High

  • Place the carb cap onto the top of the atomizer
  • Press and hold down the power button to activate the heating cycle (30 secs. heat time)
  • Inhale slowly after a few seconds

Atomizer

The add-ons for The Dip E-Rig include a specially designed flavor chamber and dry herb atomizer, both of which are sold separately

The Dip E-Rig also has a specially designed FlavorX chamber bucket made from ceramic silicon carbide as well as a dry herb atomizer, both of which are sold separately. Having tried the flavor chamber, it really does maximize the taste of your extracts, especially live rosin. The dry herb atomizer is just as solid and efficient when it comes to strength and taste. The dab tool provided in this kit makes it easy to load your extracts with its flat tip. The cleaning and maintenance for The Dip E-Rig are relatively simple, similar to the Focus V Carta and The Core E-Rig:

  • Remove the glass bubbler carefully
  • Soak the glass bubbler and carb cap in alcohol
  • Disassemble the atomizer but do not soak the atomizer in alcohol
  • Soak the ceramic/flavor chamber bucket if necessary
  • Swab the base and bottom of the atomizer and the base of the battery, if necessary
  • Reassemble the Dip E-Rig with the atomizer and glass attachment

More portable and easier to maintain than Hydrology NX, Dr. Dabber Boost Evo and The Core E-Rig, not quite as efficient as the Dr. Dabber Boost Evo

The Dip E-Rig is a bit more portable and easier to maintain than the recently reviewed Hydrology NX, Dr. Dabber Boost Evo, and The Core E-Rig. Performance-wise, The Dip E-Rig feels overall stronger and more efficient than both the Hydrology NX and The Core E-Rig. However, the performance for the Dr. Dabber Boost Evo felt slightly stronger and more efficient than The Dip E-Rig. In my opinion, The Dip E-Rig represents the best, most affordable alternative to the Focus V Carta, in terms of value.

The Dip E-Rig is an overall better value than other similar E-Rigs

In conclusion, The Dip E-Rig is highly recommended for its solid ergonomic design, excellent battery strength, and highly efficient performance at an overall better value than other similar E-Rigs. In addition, it’s very portable, slightly less bulky, and easy to use than other similar E-Rigs. The Dip E-Rig felt stronger than some of the E-Rigs on the market, such as Hydrology NX and The Core E-Rig. However, I felt that the Dr. Dabber Boost Evo was a bit more efficient than The Dip E-Rig. The Dip E-Rig vaporizer currently runs for $179.95 on their website here.

TribeTokes Disposable Review – Convenient D8 Vape Delivers Smooth & Light Hits

0
tribetokes disposable review

In this review, we have the TribeTokes disposable Delta 8 THC vape. Having tried TribeTokes vape starter kit, here we try their half-gram Indica disposable. Providing smooth and relaxing effects, yet light hits, this disposable gives an overall nice, light, and convenient experience.

Pros:

  • Compact and convenient disposable
  • Smooth and clean hits
  • Good flavor/strain

Cons:

  • Delivers light hits
  • Not rechargeable

Recommendation: Advance their hardware to make it deliver thicker and stronger hits, and also make these disposables rechargeable.

Check out our video review below, and read about our experience with TribeTokes disposable.

TribeTokes Disposable Delta 8 Vape – (Indica) Northern Lights

tribetokes review
The appearance on the packaging itself is amazing. This company did a great job with this, very neat and unique.

TribeTokes currently have three different strains for their disposables, Northern Lights, Birthday Cake, and NYC Diesel. The strain that we have here, Northern Lights, delivers quite smooth hits and a nice taste. Furthermore, this disposable delivers more of an herb-like taste to it. Not flavor dense, rater slight but very smooth and enjoyable.

TribeTokes Disposable provides great oil quality and fair strength

delta 8 disposable
Authentic lab results are shown on the packaging itself.

TribeTokes disposables deliver nice and clean oil quality. A bit difficult to see through the disposable, but you can tell that the oil is thick and efficient. Not the strongest Delta 8, but fair potency and slight effects.

Furthermore, this particular strain, Northern Lights, contains 82.4% Delta 8 THC. Not the strongest oil quality or the most effective, but rather very smooth and mellow. They also provide lab results, as you can see shown above on their packaging. You can also view more about their lab results on their official website here.

Compact and portable disposable, but hardware delivers light hits

delta8 review
TribeTokes disposable is compact and discrete, but the hardware itself isn’t as effective.

Taking a look at the disposable itself, it is a very small and portable device. Fits great in your palms, and can be discrete as well. The design of this disposable vape is great, again very convenient.

But the only thing is that this disposable delivers pretty light hits. You may get some good hits, but only after inhaling for a long period of time. Even then, the quality of hits isn’t as potent. The good thing is, it doesn’t clog up at all.

Disposable ran out of battery before finishing

Unfortunately, the disposable did die on me before all the oil was finished in my experience. Perhaps this may not happen in everyone’s experience. But it would be much nicer if they allow a port to charge the vape disposable. After halfway, it kind of felt like I was starting to get light hits. But with just a little bit of oil left, it completely died.

Value: Great for beginner users and good for its convenience

TribeTokes disposable may be a great vape for those who enjoy light hits or want something convenient to vape. Being easy to use, and providing smooth and relaxing hits, this disposable is also great for those starting with Delta 8. The price for these D8 disposables is $50. With many products in the market, TribeTokes also provide a wide variety of Delta 8 and CBD products. Moreover, if you prefer something that delivers thicker and stronger hits, this disposable may not be the right product for you.

Concluding TribeTokes disposable Delta 8 vape

Overall, This compact and discreet disposable is great for its convenience and efficiency. Providing smooth hits, these deliver a light experience. The only thing is that the hardware that they use. The disposable didn’t deliver that potent hits and didn’t last me the full experience for me. Rather, they deliver thin and light hits. Otherwise, the oil quality is good. Willie’s Reserve Vape Cart Review – Convenient and Decently Flavored

willie’s reserve vape cart review

This is the first Willie’s Reserve cart that I have tried, and I like it so far.  Buckeye Relief is probably my favorite Cannabis brand that I’ve tried at this point.  I absolutely love their AiroPro vape carts!

Pros:

  • 100% Cannabis cannabinoids and terpenes
  • The gold standard for High-quality vape carts CCELL Cart hardware
  • Decent flavor, convenient, and easy to use for a beginner
  • State maximum allowed THC percentage (70%)

Cons:

  • Kind of expensive

Recommendations: I would recommend anyone who likes Cannabis vape carts to try these Willie’s Reserve vape carts. I was really impressed with the Willie’s Reserve flower I tried in the past, and I haven’t been disappointed in the vape cart either.

willie’s reserve vape cart box

Who would enjoy this?

I think anyone who enjoys cannabis would love this distillate cart.  The flavor is good, and the effects are awesome too!  I’m not sure about other Willie’s Reserve strain options, but I think anyone who likes a more Indica leaning strain would probably find this to be very beneficial with pain, anxiety, and stress later in the day.

willie’s reserve vape cart

Willie’s Reserve Vape Cart has great flavor and effects!

The strain that I chose, which was the only Indica Willie’s Reserve cart, is Oro Blanco.  The terpenes and cannabinoids are listed on the box, and I’m pretty impressed with the high Myrcene content of 20.9 mg/g.  From what I’ve seen in other carts, that’s pretty high.  I really like high Myrcene strains.

I really like the flavor from this cart.  I’m not very good at describing flavors and scents, but this definitely has a nice, sweet undertone.   Myrcene is the top terpene, with Limonene second, Ocimene third and final one I don’t recognize called “BIS” at just 1.57 mg/g.  You can find myrcene in Hops and is normally the top terpene in Indica strains.  Ocimene is also found in mint, parsley, and pepper, and Limonene is found in citrus.

willie’s reserve vape cart close up

High-quality cartridge hardware, specifically designed for Cannabis oils

Jupiter CCELL makes the vape cart hardware for Willie’s Reserve, and they are the gold standard.  These CCELL cartridges contain a CCELL Ceramic Core and are made from non-toxic, inert, lead-free materials, including durable, borosilicate glass.

willie’s reserve vape cart side box

Similar Cannabis products for comparison:

This vape cart is pretty comparable to the other vape carts I have tried so far. In addition, the flavor is good, but not as sweet and fruity as the AiroPro Artisan series, or as funky as Firelands Scientific live hash rosin vape carts either.  It’s kind of a middle-of-the-road option.  I’m happy with the effects and nice, subtle flavor.  It should be a pretty good, inconspicuous option too, and not leave much smell behind.

willie’s reserve vape cart details

Conclusion

I am glad that I tried this vape cart.   The flavor is subtle and nice, and this kind of vape cart is convenient for someone new to medical Cannabis or new to vaping.

Trulieve Vape Cartridge Review – Good Taste/Smell But a Little Overpriced

trulieve vape cartridge review

Today I will be reviewing a cartridge filled with the legendary strain Chem Dawg. Trulieve is a medical marijuana dispensary leading the industry in Florida with 78 convenient locations throughout the state. They currently offer a wide variety of flower, cartridges, edibles, concentrates, distillates, and topicals also they have accessories and a clothing line.

Pros:

  • Good Taste/Smell
  • Tiny air bubble, completely filled
  • Good oil quality

Cons:

  • Price
  • Have to vape at low temp

Recommendations: Evaluate the price to match the quality of the product

Trulieve vape cartridge box

An interesting strain origin story

There are many versions of the story of how this strain was bred however, they all originated in the early ’90s when some growers/breeders followed The Grateful Dead. The most accurate story I got was from an article by Danny Danko for High Times magazine. I took some excerpts from the article:

‘’ It’s June 1991 in Deer Creek, Indiana, and the Grateful Dead and their entourage are pulling into town for a two-night run. Little does anyone suspect that marijuana history is about to be made….”

“As the story goes, Chem met P-Bud and Joe Brand on the lot in Deer Creek and purchased an ounce of a strain called Dogbud for $500. Later, he asked Joe to mail a few more ounces to him in Western Massachusetts, one of which contained 13 magic seeds.”

EDITOR’s NOTE: For you younger readers, the Grateful Dead was a psychedelic / jam band beloved by Boomers, with a heavy presence in drug and especially head shop culture. They broke up in the mid-90s, but still get together for revivals up to now. Having to explain this makes us feel very old indeed, but their music is still timeless.

Joe Brand managed to get some Dogbud in Crested Butte, Colorado

Joe Brand says he got a few pounds of Dogbud from some friends of a friend in Crested Butte, Colorado. Allegedly, the strain originated somewhere on the California/Oregon border. They called it the Dog, but Joe thought it tasted “chemmy” and nicknamed it Chem. Some called it Chemweed and others Dogbud. Chem combined the two names and came up with Chem Dog.

As P-Bud himself recently recounted to me, “It’s amazing that the Chem Dog strains have been preserved all these years. When I first saw the Dogbud in 1991, I could not believe what I was seeing—I’m so glad Chem found those seeds and did what he did with them. And it was never ‘Chem Dawg’—it’s always been ‘Chem Dog.’ It’s a combination of ‘Chemweed’ and ‘Dogbud.’ Joe Brand and I started calling the Dogbud ‘Chemweed’ because it tasted so strong. Chem took the words ‘Chem’ and ‘Dog,’ and there you have it …. ”

When Chem got home from the tour, he popped the first four of the 13 seeds. One plant was a male and unfortunately discarded. The three females were dubbed “Chem Dog” (now known as the Chem 91), “Chem Dog A” (now Chem’s Sister), and “Chem Dog B.” The 91 immediately became the most desirable and went on to serve as a parent for many of the most popular strains of the last 25 years, including Sour Diesel, OG Kush, and their many offspring.”

trulieve vape cartridge line up

Chem Dawg is a strain that has come a long way

Nowadays Chem Dawg circulates all over the market. They have different versions of this hybrid, some more on the Sativa side, and others on the Indica side. In addition, Chem Dawg is a parent to OG Kush and Sour Diesel and they both spawned their own lines of strains ‘’OG’s & Diesel’s”.

This Chem Dawg cartridge by Trulieve costs $48.00, weighs 400mg, and is made of pure cannabis oil extract concentrate that has no added cutting ingredient. Other available strains by the Trulieve line of cartridges are Gorilla Glue, Sherbert, Strawberry Switchblade, and Truberry.

I bought this cartridge at my local dispensary for $48.00. This might seem pricey for a half a gram cartridge – and it is in most recreational states – however in Florida, we are still in the early stages of medical marijuana. Patients aren’t allowed to grow their own medicine yet, so the prices are high due to the demand of the product and the small amount of supply and limited permits that allow suppliers to grow and distribute legally. The THC levels are 78.020%. The CBD levels are 0.410%.

Good quality oil

The oil was a really clear extract and the cartridge was filled to the rim with a tiny air pocket. The flavor was really gassy and diesel-like with earthy piney, skunky, kush after-taste. I noticed that when I set my battery at any temperature over 3.5, the oil was harsh on my throat. Some pens don’t have temps or they have low, mid, and high temp settings, so you have to find the temp of your preference.

When vaping this cartridge I stayed productive through the day and uplifted, somewhat relaxed but not tired at all. I stayed awake and alert even though this strain is an Indica dominant hybrid. Another thing I noticed is that it barely got me hungry.

Effects are uplifting and relaxing

-Uplifting

-Happy

-Indica body high (but awake)

-Euphoric

-Relaxed

-Minimal Munchies

Very good taste

I have tried some “Chem Dawg” cartridges before when I lived in California. The one I can remember well was ABX Absolute Extract ($30.00 1gram). They both tasted awesome and the high in both was really good, the ABX wasn’t as harsh as the Trulieve when vaped higher than 3.5.

Concluding our Trulieve vape cartridge review

In conclusion, I give this cartridge a 7.6 total. After adding Pro’s and Con’s I think it’s a fair rating. There’s a few things I want to add because some people use cannabis recreationally, some medically, and for different purposes. I took this out of the Pros and Cons list: The fact that it didn’t trigger the munchies and that it kept me up and didn’t make me feel like napping or tired. That is because some people need medical marijuana to eat, some to sleep, others want the opposite. It all depends on what your needs and wants are, so it’s up to the reader if this is beneficial to you or not.

It was an awesome strain with really good effects and after effects. As far as taste and quality of the oil, it was good quality. The only complaint was the harshness after a few hits. The price is high, but then again everywhere in Florida the prices for half gram cartridges range from $45 to $65. Another piece of advice would be to upgrade the hardware; this will improve the appreciation of flavors. You can check the brand Heavy Hitters for example, and see the difference in hardware.

If you’re asking if I will continue to buy this product the answer is Yes. Overall the cannabis is valued over the price.

You can find out more about the Trulieve products here. Have you tried some? Let us know in the comments or on our forum.

Linx Ember Wax Pen Review – Great Battery and a Very Efficient Design

linx ember review

Today we will take a look at the Linx Ember wax pen, the smallest and most portable extract vaporizer from Linx Vapor. Linx Vapor offers a wide variety of different vaporizers equipped to handle flower and extracts. We have previously reviewed the Linx Blaze and Linx Eden. The Linx Ember wax pen currently runs for $39.99 on their website. We will detail our experience objectively as always in our non-affiliate reviews. For this review, I will take a look at the pros and cons of this wax pen.

Pros:

  • Solid compact build
  • Great battery strength
  • Very efficient design
  • Great airflow
  • Affordable value

Cons:

  • None

Recommendations: None

linx ember

It’s perfect for beginners and solo sessions for the casual user

The Linx Ember is a surprisingly solid and efficient slim wax pen that’s perfect for beginners and solo sessions for the casual user. The Ember battery is also very easy to use with a simple one-button operation. The Linx Ember comes in a sleek black logo-engraved carrying case that includes the following:

  • 1 ceramic atomizer w/ vapor window
  • a 350 mAH lithium-ion battery
  • 1 stainless steel mouthpiece w/ filter section
  • 1 USB charger

linx ember and hypnos zero

The features and performance of the Linx Ember felt stronger and more efficient than the Hypnos Zero

The Linx Ember unit consists of four parts: the atomizer, the mouthpiece, the filter section, and the battery. In fact, its atomizer has a few impressive features that distinguish it from other similar wax pens. This wax pen uses a recessed coil atomizer that uses a quartz rod and ceramic chamber. This week, I had the chance to try both the Linx Ember and Hypnos Zero. Between these two Linx wax pens, I greatly preferred the features and performance of the Linx Ember over the Hypnos Zero. The recessed coil atomizer used in the Ember felt stronger and more efficient than the ceramic plate used for the Hypnos Zero.

The vapor window is a great feature that allows the user to see when your extract is vaporized

However, one of the strongest features of this Linx Ember wax pen is the vapor window. The vapor window is a great feature that allows the user to see when your extract is vaporized and when to take the hit. The Ember unit is turned on and off by pressing the power five times quickly. Operating this wax pen is very easy and simple:

  • Unscrew the mouthpiece from the atomizer.
  • Load your preferred extract onto the coil of the atomizer.
  • Screw the mouthpiece back onto the atomizer.
  • Screw the atomizer to the battery
  • Press the power button five times to turn it on.
  • Set your preferred heat setting (3.3v. 3.8v, 4.2v)
  • Press the power button as your concentrate is easily seen vaporized through the vapor window. Inhale when the vapor fills up the atomizer seen through the vapor window.

The Linx Ember also has a sesh mode by pressing the power button two times quickly for ten seconds of continuous heating. The Linx Ember has three main heat settings that can be toggled through by pressing the power three times:

  • Blue: Low (3.3v)
  • Green: Med (3.8v)
  • Red: High (4.2v)

linx ember atomizer light

The Linx Ember battery also serves as a great backup cartridge battery

The Linx Ember battery also works with most 510 threaded cartridges. Much like the Utilian 5, this is yet another versatile feature as it also serves as a great backup cartridge battery. As a battery, it also impressed me with how slim yet powerful and long-lasting it was. While not as strong as other bulkier wax pens like the Utillian 5, it’s a much stronger, less messy, and overall better experience than other slim wax pens like the GPen Nova

linx ember atomizer close up

The Linx Ember is better designed, stronger, and less messy than other wax pens like G Pen Nova

The maintenance is also very straightforward as there are only four pieces to clean. First, unscrew the atomizer from the battery. Then, unscrew the filter section from the mouthpiece. Finally, soak the mouthpiece, the filter section, and the atomizer in alcohol while you charge the battery. Compared to other similar slim wax pens, the Linx Ember is better designed, stronger, and less messy than something like the G Pen Nova. If you’re looking for a sturdier and more powerful wax pen, then the Utillian 5 wax pen might be more recommended than the Linx Ember. Overall, the Linx Ember also delivered a better experience, more efficient design, and more vapor than the Linx Hypnos Zeros. However, you can also still order a Hypnos Dios atomizer through their website.

Overall, the Linx Ember is highly recommended for its sleek and sturdy design, great battery strength, and highly efficient performance

In conclusion, this is one of the best options for a slim, budget-friendly wax pen, compared to other similar wax pens, such as the G Pen Nova. The Linx Ember is highly recommended for its sleek and sturdy design, great battery strength, and highly efficient performance. In addition, its price is incredibly appealing and the size of the Ember is perfect for traveling or solo sessions after work. However, the Linx Ember is smaller and weaker than something like the Utillian 5 wax pen. Regardless, the Linx Ember will be a valuable investment for anyone looking for a simple, sleek, yet powerful slim wax pen.

The Linx Ember is available for $39.99 here.  If you are in Canada, you can get it here

Nevada Dispensaries : A Video Tour

0
Nevada_dispensaries

While the legalization of cannabis marches on across the USA, it’s still hard to find a state as happening as Nevada. The state’s status as a tourist mecca and entertainment capitol gave it the opportunity to realize a legal cannabis market that few other states enjoy.

We’re in the process of covering other states too, but we’ve made the most coverage in the Silver State. We’ve also turned our first-hand expertise with Nevada dispensaries into a vision of an automated system to find the best dispensary deals in Nevada, a work in progress over at DankOil Las vegas Dispensary Deals.

For now, enjoy our video tour of the Nevada dispensary scene, with focus on Las Vegas. We may add more reviews here as we get to them.

What Can You Get For A Little Over $200 In A Nevada Dispensary?

We start with an average picture of a Nevada dispensary. We hopped over to Eli, Nevada, to avoid the “tourist tax” effect on Las Vegas and Reno dispensaries. Our mission was to squeeze as much value as possible out of $200 (circa spring 2019). We actually got quite a lot! A half-G Cannavative, half-G Envy, 2 W-vapes CO2 oil syringes, and 3 grams of flower.

That dispensary was Tsaa Nesunkwa (“Sah Neh-SOONK-wah”?) dispensary, which we later gave a separate review.

Northeastern Nevada Dispensaries – A Brief Review of All 4

For the little-explored northeastern Nevada corner, we decided to give a round-up of the four dispensaries operating in that region. They are Deep Roots Harvest, CuraLeaf, NuWe, and Tsaa Nesunkwa. Nothing fancy this time, just a little overview of the area and the relative pros and cons of each dispensary.

Best Dispensaries in Las Vegas NV – Here’s Our Top Picks Based On Prices and Selection

In January 2021, we’d narrowed Las Vegas dispensary scene down to a short list of favorites. We have a fair words for Acres Cannabis, for whom we haven’t gotten around to a separate review yet. We give our seal of approval for Oasis, and a nod to Planet 13 – but only if you look for the right price at the right time. The Dispensary NV (+Henderson, +Reno) is a regular stop for us, and we also have to give a shout-out for Essence Tropicana West.

NuWu Dispensary Review: One of Las Vegas’ Best Dispensaries

NuWu Las Vegas impressed us with great selection and deals, but benchmark the prices by 2018 standards. We show off our haul and toot their name a couple times.

Essence Tropicana West: Best Dispensary In Las Vegas

It’s a toss-up among the titans of the Las Vegas cannabis scene, but as of January 2019 we’d given Essence the honor of best dispensary. Essence was very kind to our budget, with a “buy one get one” special and a rewards savings feature.

Mynt Reno Dispensary Review: One of Nevada’s Worst?

We of course have to report our disappointments too. In spring of 2019, Mynt in Reno was just a bad experience, with them only stocking house brands and the staff giving us a hard time besides. Since then, The Dispensary (which had our vote for best Reno dispensary as well) bought out Mynt (gee, wonder why?) so they might have their act together now. We also like Kanna in Reno.

Deep Roots Harvest Wendover Review: Price Gouging Rural Nevada

One of the problems we find with the more rural outlets in Nevada is price-gouging. While we can appreciate that a remote location is more expensive to maintain and can’t count on the volume that a big city dispensary gets, there’s still high prices beyond all excuse at some of these rural locations. So we had to express disappointment with Wendover’s Deep Roots location. We gave them a drive-by review in the Dabber Dasher, and kept right on trucking by. This was at the beginning of 2020, so maybe they’ve settled down, but with a remote location on a highway, there’s little reason for them to do so.

NuLeaf Las Vegas Review: Are You Kidding Me With These Prices Brah?

NuLeaf is right in Las Vegas, so they have no excuse! Even though they are practically on the strip, and a straight shot from the Venetian at that, they’re still in the tourist-trap mentality. As we have covered here, there’s few better dispensary shopping elsewhere in Las Vegas for your cannabis dollar.

So that’s it! We will toss some more reviews in here gradually as we continue to cover Nevada and all it has to offer.

Readers, it’s your turn! What dispensaries do you find to be your choice kush locations, and which leave you let down? Where should we review next? Share your experience in the comments below or in our quaint little forum.

Terpenes and Cannabis : Twenty Facts That Will Surprise You

0
terpenes_and_cannabis

Once upon a time, before marijuana was legalized at all in North America, the public knew one thing and only one thing about the active compounds in the plant: THC (tetrahydrocannabinol). THC gets you high, full stop, the only “active ingredient” most of us heard of.

Since legalization began, research has jumped down the long rabbit hole that is the complex chemical makeup of everyone’s favorite weed. It turns out that marijuana is composed of dozens of organic compounds, which we are just beginning to investigate. So far we’ve uncovered 113 cannabinoids and 120 terpenes in various strains of cannabis. This makes pot one of the richest known plants for concentration and variety of terpenes, as well as potentially significant psychoactive compounds, cannabinoids included.

Our DabConnection staff has been fielding questions about terpenes for a while now. They’re coming in from mail, comments, forum posts, and random people stopping us at dispensaries. We decided to put our research hounds on the job to help clear up some of the deepest mysteries about terpenes.

Gelato vape details

1) How important are terpenes to the cannabis experience?

Very important! THC, CBD, Delta 8 THC, and other cannabinoids by themselves are almost completely odorless and tasteless. The terpenes contribute the aroma and flavor of cannabis products. An isolated cannabinoid will give you the effect of just that cannabinoid, like a prescription medicine. Terpenes act in conjunction with cannabinoid compounds to deliver a fuller effect.

The difference is just like the difference between taking a vitamin C tablet and eating an orange. The orange has a full organic compound profile which works in conjunction with the vitamin C. Plus, the tablet is highly processed, which causes the vitamin C to lose some of its potency. There may be some similar effect with processing compounds in cannabis.

But the bottom line is: try some pure THC or CBD, then try some in a more natural concoction that includes a terpene profile. You will notice the difference in a blindfolded test!

2) Do terpenes alone get you high?

No they do not, at least not the psychoactive effect we speak of from THC. When we talk about a “high,” we mean the combination of euphoria, gratification, tranquility, stimulation, and other mental effects.

However, this is not to say that terpenes play no role in the mental state you experience from cannabis! By themselves, some terpenes have a mild mental effect including stimulation, arousal, or sedation. Some of the better-known ones are:

  • Myrcene – sedating, relaxing, enhances THC effects

  • Linalool – sedating, calming

  • Pinene – alertness, memory retention

  • Limonene – stress relief, mood elevator

Terpenes are part of why cannabis is recommended for psychological maladies such as anxiety, depression, PTSD, and mood or stress disorders.

You can easily prove to yourself that terpene effects don’t get you high, because all the psychoactive terpenes are also found in other plants. Mangoes have myrcene, citrus fruits have limonene, and the spice basil contains pinene. Go ahead, have yourself a big mango and orange fruit salad seasoned with basil. You may feel better, since your body just got a shot of fresh fruit with all its vitamins and antioxidants. You may even be in a jolly mood. But would you describe that as a “high”? Probably not.

I highly recommend this if you’re looking for quality and tasty CBD.

3) Does CBD oil have terpenes?

CBD (cannabidiol), by itself, is just one of the many cannabinoids in pot. CBD can be derived from hemp or cannabis proper, both of which also have terpenes. Depending on the extraction process, CBD can include terpenes or not. Most CBD products will now list on the label whether they contain terpenes or other cannabinoids as well. Any product advertised as “full spectrum” will generally include terpenes too.

But CBD by itself can be made completely terpene-free. In fact, it’s even possible to make synthetic CBD oil, no cannabis plant involved.

delta 8 thc cartridge
OG Kush provides a more dense, weed flavor.

4) Are there terpenes in Delta 8?

Like CBD oil, Delta 8 THC is a stand-alone cannabinoid. Delta 8 has effects similar to THC (properly called “delta 9 THC”), but far milder. As with CBD, delta 8 has its own cult following as an alternative cannabis derivative product, thanks to its more legalized status and preferred effect for some medical and therapeutic applications.

Delta 8 products, especially vapes, will usually list the terpenes on the label if they contain them. Keywords like “full spectrum” or “naturally extracted” also apply.

Decriminalization_marijuana

5) Are terpenes by themselves legal?

Of course! Terpenes are found throughout nature, in almost every known plant. Terpenes are legal in not just the US, but around the world. It would be pretty impossible to outlaw terpenes – we’d all starve to death!

drug_dog

6) Can drug-sniffing dogs be fooled by botanical terpenes?

Yes they can! The main component of cannabis which drug-sniffing dogs go by is beta-caryophyllene (the same as caryophyllene, but more of a proper name). This same terpene is also found in black pepper, cloves, oregano, basil, rosemary, hops, and so on.

While we can’t find any evidence of drug-sniffing dogs being thrown off by somebody toting the whole spice rack around in their luggage, there is a claim that 75% of the time when a drug dog triggers, it’s a false positive. This is actually more likely due to the fact that drug dogs can smell residue. Frequently they will trigger off currency because it’s so common to use a rolled-up note to snort powders. Keep weed in your cargo shorts for a week, then remove it and wear the shorts while you go have a dog sniff you – they will still trigger!

Ethan_Russo

7) Is the entourage effect proven now?

The entourage effect, which is the full-body effect from cannabis products, has been widely verified by generations of users. Terpenes are the most common cited cause of the entourage effect. But due to cannabis’ prohibition, scientific research was hampered. Now that laws are loosening, scientists are looking into this, but so far we don’t have 100% conclusive experimental proof. We do, however, have some strong theories.

The main man to talk to is Ethan Russo, a neurologist who is also the founder and CEO of CReDO Science, a company dealing in cannabis products. Russo asserts in interviews that “experiments support certain of these physiological effects [of terpenes], ideally, in clinical trial work.” Russo has a full paper published at NCBI, on “The Case for the Entourage Effect and Conventional Breeding of Clinical Cannabis.”

Dr. Jordan Tishler, Instructor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School, states in interviews that “the entourage effect is real” and that this “also explains why pure THC is not particularly effective, and whole-plant cannabis is better.”

This Science Direct paper is perhaps the final word we have presently, stating “Some cannabis phytomolecules interact, causing enhanced biological activity. Defining this phenomenon, known as the ‘entourage effect’, is one of the leading challenges in the field of research.”

One famous study treated epilepsy patients with either pure CBD or full spectrum CBD with terpenes and found better response in the full-spectrum group. That is a sign that something could be at work, but still not considered conclusive until we separate all the contributing ingredients.

So: Research is ongoing, but science is slow. Note also that research into the entourage effect sometimes focuses on different cannabinoids (THC, CBD, etc.) working together rather than isolating the terpenes’ effects. Let’s put it this way: We mentioned at the top “113 cannabinoids and 120 terpenes” are found in cannabis (and counting!). Now to do exhaustive research, we have to test each individual compound to see what effect it has, then isolate and test a pair of compounds to see if they have an enhanced effect, then repeat these steps for every possible pair of all 233 compounds! Even if the entire world pitched in on this research, it would not be done overnight.

medical-research

8) Is there confirmed medical research showing the benefits of terpenes?

That is a far easier question to answer. Yes, there’s plenty of confirmation into benefits of individual terpenes in experiments controlled against placebos. This applies not just to cannabis, but to the plant kingdom at large. Various terpenes have been known to be effective as insect repellant, antifungal agents, antibacterial agents, anesthetics, and cancer-fighting drugs.

Results on individual cannabis terpenes, however, may differ. Some are proven, some are still in clinical trials, and some don’t seem to do much.

Eucalyptol

9) Are there any harmful terpenes?

Remember that terpenes are found in plants throughout nature. There are some plants, such as toxic and poisonous species, which are proven harmful. As for terpenes in cannabis, very few if any could be said to have outright harmful effects, at least not in the concentrations we see in cannabis.

However, as in all of nature, effects change when we scale the dosage. If you just concentrate one terpene into pure form, there can be damage potential. The most common harmful effect from terpenes is flammability – pinene and carene are both components of turpentine. Meanwhile, eucalyptol is lethal at high doses, but we’re talking about a third of a pound of pure eucalyptol consumed at once. You’d have to smoke roughly a truckload of weed in one sitting to get close to that dosage.

Several users do report allergic reactions to some terpenes, including some found in cannabis, like linalool. As for vaping, some studies have suggested that vaping terpenes releases trace amounts of toxic chemicals. But you could say the same for burning a pile of autumn leaves.

Keep in mind that marijuana has been cultivated since 500 BC, in continuous usage since then, with so far a mortality rate of zero. So at least within bounds of normal consumption, if there were anything deadly in it, we would have found it by now.

essential-oils

10) Aren’t terpenes just “essential oils”?

At least most terpenes fall into the same category as essential oils.

It is unfortunate that so many years of pseodoscience and quackery have given plant-based compounds a bad rap. Let us be mindful of the fact that much of our medicine comes from natural plants in the first place. Like anything in nature, essential oils and terpenes can be misapplied. For example, there is consistent quackery around vitamin D, but just because somebody makes outrageous claims for it does not mean that vitamin D does nothing.

There are, indeed, suspicious claims going around about terpenes and other cannabis-derived products as well. For example, that CBD bathbombs fad that was going around turned out to not have much science supporting it.

On the positive side, sometimes a long-standing claim is eventually proven out. Chamomile, which shares the terpene bisabolol with cannabis, has a long-standing tradition in folk medicine. When modern science came along to test the beneficial claims, many of them were cast into doubt but a few of them were proven true.

We here at DabConnection are careful not to make unfounded health claims for or against cannabis. When we do refer to a health claim, either we link to a reasonably scientific source to back it up, or we identify a claim as unproven. All consumers of cannabis products should likewise maintain healthy skepticism. Cannabis derivatives have been proven effective in some medical applications, but that does not make cannabis a panacea.

why-does-my-vape-taste-bad

11) Why do botanical terpenes taste worse than cannabis terpenes?

Extraction of any plant-based compound is never a completely sterile business. Many terpenes are extracted through simple means such as steaming and distilling. Inevitably, some flavor from the source plant carries over. So while some weed strains are appreciated for having a peppery taste, it’s not as nice when the caryophyllene comes from actual pepper.

Botanical terpenes typically have an off flavor, reminiscent of an herbal vape, and are often harsh on the throat besides. Natural cannabis terpenes at least hit more like pot, because they are pot.

marijuana-smell

12) Are terpenes responsible for marijuana’s strong, pungent odor?

Yes indeed! In fact, terpenes across the plant kingdom are the cause for many plants’ aromas and flavors. Pinene, common to cannabis and pine trees, is a strong component of the sap of trees in the conifer family and is responsible for that “fresh pine” smell. Terpenes in general are also widely used in the perfume industry, precisely because they carry so much of their source plants’ signature aromas.

cali stripe live rosin batter review

13) What extraction method is best for preserving the full spectrum of cannabis?

Live resin and rosin are so far the preferred methods of cannabis extraction for preserving the plant’s full spectrum effects.

plant_insects

14) What is the purpose of terpenes in the first place?

In nature, plants evolved terpenes, alkaloids, and other organic compounds to serve many roles, chief among them moderating their interactions with other wildlife. Many terpenes double as effective insect repellant or anti-microbial agents, chasing away harmful pests and fungi. Some plants exhibit a nasty taste or odor to ward off herbivores who would otherwise graze on the plant and destroy it before it had reached maturity.

However, there are nearly as many cases where terpenes serve a function to attract wildlife selectively. The familiar smell of freshly-mowed grass, for instance, is a chemical “distress signal” which attracts predators of grazing herbivores. And of course, the sweet scent of flowers is attractive to more than just humans. It’s also there to attract pollinating insects which the plant depends upon to reproduce.

So the question is more “what purpose don’t terpenes serve?” Each plant species has its own unique strategy to promote its survival, and chemical production is the first line of defense.

Weed_Mango

15) Do mangoes have some effect with cannabis terpenes?

Yes, that’s been confirmed for a long time. Mangoes share the terpene myrcene with cannabis. Myrcene binds to some of the same receptors that cannabinoids do, resulting in a more pronounced entourage effect. For best results, eat mango about 45 minutes before vaping or smoking marijuana. All this really does is make the buzz a bit more mellow and relaxing.

face_serum

16) Are terpenes effective in topicals or aromatherapy?

In the case of topical application, which means applying it externally, some terpenes do have therapeutic effects such as being anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory, or acting as a healing or anesthetic agent. Recall above that some plants produce terpenes as an anti-fungal measure. Well, guess what we use in ointments to treat fungal infections?

There is a lot more skepticism about aromatherapy. Conventional wisdom is that it’s pure baloney. A lot of aromatherapy has become tied up in New Age alternative medicine, to the point where it speaks of “eliminating toxins” and “toning and firming the body.” Not a smidgen of scientific evidence for this class of claim exists, and it would be ludicrous to think that merely inhaling a scent can make you thin! The chief argument against aromatherapy is not that the terpenes do nothing, but that merely inhaling them from a distance is too weak of a dosage.

The bottom line for aromatherapy is that for every claim that has some slight merit, there’s ten more that are just bunk. As we mention before, it’s good to preserve some skepticism and check out claims for yourself. It’s pretty easy to verify that cannabis helps stimulate the appetite and overcome nausea for cancer chemotherapy patients. That is miles away from suggesting that anything in cannabis cures cancer.

mango-allergy

17) Are there any terpenes with bad side effects?

As with any plant-based compound, results will vary from one individual to the next. Just as some people experience a bad taste from cilantro due to a genetic issue, some people can experience bad reactions to cannabis or any of its derivatives.

Quite a few terpenes can trigger allergic reactions, such as linalool, which is found in both cannabis and lavender. Check the individual terpene’s studies for possible adverse effects.

miracle_cure

18) Are there miracle drugs waiting to be discovered in terpenes?

Let’s not say “miracle,” but you could very well support the claim that future cannabis research has the potential to unlock more medical applications. We have just been delayed from research by decades of prohibitory laws. As we mention above, there’s over 230 organic compounds in cannabis, some of which we didn’t know existed until just a few years ago. With what we’ve found so far, cannabis shows promise as a source of many useful compounds. However, remember that terpenes are not unique to cannabis, so most terpenes in cannabis have had more research from other source plants already.

vaping

19) Does vaping give the full effect of terpenes?

The answer varies depending on the temperature and terpene. Terpenes are effective when activated in the range from the low 200s F to the high 300s F. But provided you’re vaping the right temperature, it can be a more effective way to consume terpenes than smoking.

skepticism

20) Are terpenes just a lot of hype?

Terpenes are definitely the subject of hype right now!

It was inevitable that this would happen. You take a benevolent drug enjoyed by generations since the dawn of agriculture, outlaw it for a near-millennium, and then slowly legalize it gradually after realizing its medical applications. Of course people are going to be spun into a frenzy about it!

There is something to terpenes and they are a fascinating aspect of cannabis, but there’s a lot more news coming out about the organic components of the hemp family besides. They are an enjoyable part of the cannabis experience with their own therapeutic applications in some cases, but perhaps they have been the subject of too much attention after being shunned for so long.

Trendi Cart Review – Real Terpenes, Excellent Strength

trendi cart review

Here we take a look at the cartridge by Trendi. This particular one is a collaboration with Reina. This cart is pretty impressive. The only downside to this cartridge is that the packaging looks a bit misleading. It says LR in the name of the cartridge, which makes you believe it’s live resin but then if you look at the ingredients it does not contain live resin. Overall there is nothing to complain about here. The price is good, the oil lasts a good amount of time, it’s strong, the taste is good, not harsh and it has real cannabis terpenes.

Pros:

  • Good Taste
  • Oil last a good amount of time
  • Strong
  • Uses real cannabis terpenes

Cons:

  • Not available in more areas

Recommendations: A little clearer packaging and we hope to see this in other states soon.

trendi cart in hand

Trendi cart is a high-quality cartridge

There is not really much to complain about except for the wording on the packing. It might be just a typo. Even at full price, these are pretty strong and something I would recommend trying. The other Trendi carts we tried before were also collaborations. One was with The Grower Circle and the other one was also with Reina. So that seems to be a pattern with Trendi products. So far, the four half grams of live resin and this cartridge have all been great. And definitely something we would recommend.

trendi cart close up

Trendi uses  CCELL TH2

Trendi uses the standard high-quality CCELL TH2 carts. They are very efficient and have a very low failure rate. Trendi has made a wise choice when choosing this hardware since there aren’t many competitors out there that can outperform it. Some hardware out there might hit harder but it would also vape out faster.

This Trendi cart is impressively strong

Despite the fact I have cracked the glass, this thing still worked out through the cartridge. I was really impressed with the Trendi cart strength. Nothing to complain about here and definitely, it’s one of the stronger carts out there. You probably won’t find a lot of carts out there that are stronger. It’s really top level when it comes to strength.

A better than average distillate taste

It tastes like distillate but it’s better than most. So I won’t say that the Trendi cart, particularly the one we have tried here, taste as good as some of the best tasting distillate carts. However, it’s definitely above average. A big part of that is that it uses real cannabis terpenes, as opposed to botanical terpenes, which gives a more natural taste and makes it less harsh. The flavor on this cart is still enjoyable, but if the flavor is more important to you, then some other carts that I would say taste better are: Cannavative Live Clear, AiroPro Live Series, Fuze Live Resin, MPX Live Resin, and probably one of the best-tasting cart ever – Remedy Live Resin.

trendi cart packaging

Oil quality is excellent on the Trendi cart

Oil quality stayed consistent throughout the cartridge. There was no color discoloration when we got it and there was no discoloration towards the end.  The oil was also thick and it contained no additives. This is a great quality oil.

You get a lot of puff because the oil is thick

This is not the absolute thickest oil you ever tried but it’s definitely in the top 25% for oil thickness. The bottom of the thickness would be something like RAD Vape and I would say the thickest oil we have tried so far would be Vader Extracts. I would say that the Trendi cart is slightly thicker than some of the Cannavative Live Clear carts and slightly less thick than Roots cartridges. Overall you will get a nice number of puffs out of it. I mostly hit it at 4.0 or 4.2 volts and these last in line with other good quality thicker distillate carts.

Great value and in some surprising areas

Before Nevada, Trendi showed up in many places. You can go way north to Wendover and you can go all the way down to Las Vegas and you will find Trendi. When it comes to value, and I should also put it in perspective, that it depends on the dispensary that you are shopping in at the time. If you go to West Wendover, Nevada to the Deep Roots Harvest dispensary you will find Trendi carts for $45  a pop. That sounds expensive but compared to the other Deep Roots Harvest cartridges I would say that the Trendi is a better value. DRH cart is actually pretty good, but Trendi does seem better so far.

In Las Vegas, you will find Trendi carts sometimes on a deal and it’s definitely worth it. Even at full price, these carts are worth it, and it’s something I would pick up because I like the flavors and I like the fact there are collaborations and you are getting some special collaboration products that you won’t see elsewhere. On top of that, although this review is not about their Live Resin because I dabbed those too fast. Those were excellent as well and presented a great value. I got two grams for $49 at Planet 13 dispensary and it really performed well.

Concluding our Trendi cart review

The Trendi cart turned out to be impressive. The only time I have seen Trendi items before was on social media. I thought I should definitely give it a try and I am glad we did. Really great products, good prices and we hope to see them available at more places as time goes on.

One Orijin Cart Review – Amazing Flavor, But Expensive

one orijin forbidden review

I’m reviewing a One Orijin Distillate vape cart, and I’m impressed so far.  I have tried a few of the other brands of medical Cannabis distillate vape carts, but this is my first One Orijin.  Right away, I was impressed with the flavor.  It’s so complex and seems to go from a sweet, berry flavor and scent to a savory garlic/onion flavor without warning.  It probably sounds strange, but I love it so far.  The balanced hybrid effects make this a great choice for any time of day too.

Pros:

  • 100% Cannabis derived cannabinoids and labeled terpenes
  • The gold standard for High-quality vape carts AVD cart hardware
  • Amazing flavor, convenient, and easy to use for a beginner
  • The inconspicuous aroma makes this a great “on the go” option.
  • State maximum allowed THC percentage (70%)

Cons:

  • Kind of expensive

Recommendations: I would recommend anyone who likes Cannabis vape carts to try these One Orijin vape carts! I had avoided stuff like this until just recently, and now I’m kicking myself for not getting them sooner. The main reason why I avoided these was just that they are on the expensive side, but the flavor is amazing in this one!

Check out our video review below, then keep reading on for the more in-depth review.

One Origin carts use real cannabis terps

I’m a believer in the Entourage Effect, so this was a big plus to me.  I know that when I first got my medical card here in Ohio, that I was appalled to see the 70% maximum THC limit for concentrates and vapes, but since I learned about the Entourage Effect, I definitely appreciate our options more.  I really wish they would list the terpene content on all vape carts, including this one.  Its terpene content is probably quite high, with the flavor.

I’m just going to keep putting this next part about the Ohio medical marijuana rules in all of my reviews.  We have such strange rules here, and I want to help people understand them if I can.  Another quirk of note in our medical Cannabis system here is our “days allowance”.  I won’t go into too many details, but basically, one day’s worth of THC in a concentrate or vape cart is 590 mg.  This means that you will often see carts and concentrates that have 0.85 grams, or 850 mg of oil because 70% of that is right at the one-day maximum.

There are also full gram carts here, but they have lower THC content, do not have too much over the 590 mg limit, and they just have more CBD or terpenes than the other 0.85 gram options.  I think a lot of people don’t realize that, and they think the full gram options must be better, but I don’t think that’s the case.

Who would enjoy this?

I think these One Orijin vape carts are great for anyone looking for a convenient, easy to use, inconspicuous medical Cannabis vape here in Ohio, and they want flavor.  You do need to have the AVD Seed battery already, to use this vape cart with its included magnetic adapter.  I’m sure that it works in other standard 510 thread batteries too, or you can always remove the adapter and just use any standard 510 threaded battery or regulated vape mod.  This “Forbidden” strain option is great for anyone who likes balanced hybrid strains would probably find this to be very beneficial with pain, anxiety, and stress during the day.

Good flavor and effects!

I really like the flavor from this cart.  The strain that I chose, “Forbidden”, is a hybrid, from what I’ve read.   The terpene content isn’t listed, and I couldn’t begin to guess at it.  I know that Limonene is the terpene responsible for the citrus flavor and aroma.  A quick Google search shows that Humulene is the compound in hops, so it gives an earthy, spicy flavor and aroma.  Last, but not least, Caryophyllene is the compound found in black pepper, basil, and oregano, with a funky warmth similar to cinnamon and cloves.  I imagine that these terps are present in this vape cart, and others too.

High-quality cartridge hardware, specifically designed for Cannabis oils

The vape pen hardware is made by Jupiter CCELL, and they are the gold standard.  These CCELL cartridges contain an AVD Ceramic core and are made from non-toxic, inert, lead-free materials, including durable, borosilicate glass.

Similar Cannabis products for comparison:

I have had a few different brands of medical Cannabis vape carts so far, here in Ohio.  It can be difficult for a brand to stand out.  I cannot tell a difference between the distillate carts that use Cannabis-derived terpenes, and the ones that use botanical terpenes.  I do see that it’s a positive thing for them to use Cannabis-derived terpenes, though.

I’m honestly not sure if this cart counts as broad-spectrum or full-spectrum, but if you feel like you don’t get the desired effects from any broad spectrum carts, then I know that the Firelands Scientific live hash rosin carts, Grow Ohio, or Klutch CO2 oil Luster Pods or Buckeye Relief AiroPro Airo Pods Live resin series or Standard Wellness live resin sauce carts would probably be your best bet because those are full spectrum.  The AiroPro Pods are my favorite Cannabis vape option so far.

Conclusion

I am glad that I tried this One Orijin Forbidden vape cart.  I got this, along with some really nice live rosin concentrates and other vape carts and cannabis products, and they are all great.   The flavor is strong and I really like it, and I really like the packaging and how easy these carts are to use with the AVD Seed battery.  I have read so many complaints from people who bought a vape cart or pod from a dispensary, just to get home and not realize that they were missing the device needed for said cart or pod.

I have only seen a few different strain options for these One Orijin vape carts, but I actually see that as a positive, because it makes it easier for someone new to not get overwhelmed by so many options.  So far, I really like this one, and plan on buying it again!

Buckeye Relief Vape Review – Subtle But Enjoyable

buckeye relief vape pen review

I’m reviewing a Buckeye Relief Distillate Disposable vape Pen two-pack, and I’m impressed so far!  I have tried a few of the other brands of medical Cannabis distillate vape carts, but this is my first disposable vape pen.

Pros:

  • 100% Cannabis derived cannabinoids and labeled terpenes
  • The gold standard for High-quality vape carts CCELL Hardware
  • Nice flavor, convenient, and easy to use for a beginner
  • The inconspicuous aroma makes this a great “on the go” option.
  • State maximum allowed THC percentage (70%)

Cons:

  • You can’t charge the vape pen
  • Disposables create more waste.
  • You can’t remove the cart from the battery

Recommendations: I would recommend anyone in Ohio who likes Cannabis vape carts to try these Buckeye Relief vape pens as soon as possible!  I had avoided stuff like this until just recently, and now I’m kicking myself for not getting them sooner.  The main reason why I avoided these was that I got hung up on the 300 mg part.  That seems like a waste of an allowance day, but since it’s a two-pack, it still only counts as one allowance day for both, or even three sometimes.  As long as the total THC is under the daily limit of 590 mg, it only counts as one allowance day.

Ingredients: 100% Marijuana

Buckeye Relief is possibly my favorite cannabis cultivation company so far. I have contacted them a few times over the months since I got my medical card.  Mostly about their AiroPro carts, because I am such a huge fan of those.  Right away, I was impressed with how the terpene content was included on the label.  I’m a believer in the Entourage Effect, so this was a big plus to me.  I know that when I first got my medical card here, that I was appalled to see the 70% maximum THC limit for concentrates and vapes, but since I learned about the Entourage Effect, I definitely appreciate our options more.

I noticed right away with this Buckeye Relief vape pen, how it says “Ingredients: 100% Marijuana” on the package.  I’m not sure if they actually used Sgt. Pepper strain flower to make these vape pens, or if they just used any strain and just added the terpenes, like a recipe, but I really like these vape pens.

Who would enjoy this?

I think these disposable vape pens are great for anyone looking for a convenient, easy to use, inconspicuous medical cannabis vape here in Ohio.  It has everything you need to start meditating right away and in the case of this Sgt. Pepper strain option, anyone who likes balanced hybrid strains would probably find this to be very beneficial with pain, anxiety, and stress during the day.

Good flavor and effects!

I really like the flavor from this cart.  The strain that I chose, “Sgt. Pepper”, is usually a Sativa leaning hybrid, from what I’ve read.  I thought I read that these vape pens were hybrid, but now I’m not sure.  The terpene content is: Caryophyllene 0.309%, Myrcene 0.162%, and Humulene 0.139%.  I recognized Limonene is the terpene responsible for the citrus flavor and aroma of lemons.  A quick Google search shows that Humulene is the compound in hops, so it gives an earthy, spicy flavor and aroma.  Last, but not least, Caryophyllene is the compound found in black pepper, basil, and oregano, with a funky warmth similar to cinnamon and cloves.

The total terpene content is low. The flavor is more subtle with this Buckeye Relief vape pen than I usually vape. This makes the flavor a little underwhelming in my opinion.  However, this would be a great option for times that you need to be discrete, and not leave a room smelling like a skunk just died in it, just from your live resin or live rosin SHO vape cart.

I am glad that I tried this Buckeye Relief vape pen.  I got these vape pens, along with some really nice live rosin concentrates and other vape carts and cannabis products, and they are all great.   The flavor is subtle but enjoyable.
