Dr Dabber Boost 510 Review

– Better, Cheaper & More Control

The Dr Dabber Boost 510 mod takes the popular eRig and allows you use it with your own battery. Is this an upgrade on the Boost? Lets see..

[NOTE: Standalone attachments meant to be paired with a personal battery do not have a Strength category. Results may vary, depending on battery used.]

Design & Quality of the Boost 510

Boost 510 - Dr Dabber
Boost 510 threaded attachment by Dr Dabber

The Dr Dabber Boost 510 is a 510 threaded attachment of their Boost portable eNail. Instead of being a single unit with a power source built-in, you connect this to a 510 threaded box mod capable of 30w or more. Preferably, you’ll want to pick a box mod that is wider than 22mm, which is the width of the base of the Boost 510.

The Dr Dabber Boost 510 is the same G9/H-eNail based model as their regular Dr Dabber Boost. The big difference here is that you lose out on the carrying case, but the glass bubbler is much better. It is comparable to the Dabado Bolt, which is based on the same eNail.

The bubbler is 2 parts that are easy to clean and fill, compared to the single part in the regular Dr Dabber Boost or the Boost Black Edition. It also connects to bongs and dab rigs with an 18mm female connection. The 510 edition we received also had the original quartz nail instead of the new larger nail included in the recent Boost we reviewed. The titanium and ceramic ones were the same.

Boost 510 Heat Source

Boost 510 threaded
The Boost 510 connects to a 510 threaded box mod of your choice so you can pick your own temperature.

The Dr Dabber Boost 510 heats up just like the normal Dr Dabber Boost. A large built in ceramic rod with coils embedded inside the rod sticks up, which heats up the nail. The nails have an empty pillar in the center, and you install the nails with the ceramic rod inserted into the empty pillar.

Here is where they differ: instead of using the battery of the boost, you power it with your own box mod. This means you have more freedom to pick your perfect temperature and the heating time you want.

The big problem with the Boost 510 is the same as the regular Boost; which is the way it heats up. Because all of the power comes from the center ceramic rod, the inside pillar is always hotter than the outside edge. This means that the inside will be hotter for longer (while the heat travels to the outside) and the taste ends up burnt.

It still has the ceramic rod built into the attachment and you can’t replace it, like on the Dr Dabber Boost Black Edition. As for accessories, it includes the same as the normal Boost: magnetic carb cap and dab tool, a key-chain, and 2 silicone containers.

Ease of Use: Pair With Care

Even though you lose the easy 3 clicks / 5 clicks set up of the normal Dr Dabber Boost – using your own battery frees you to use it however you like. Obviously, results will depend on what type of battery you have.

From our other review of the Dr Dabber Boost you know that the preset clicks trap you into using it under perfect conditions. If you try to use a dab that’s too big, it won’t heat up enough or it will shut off early. Then, if you do another round because you have some wax left, it burns it. Well, not with the Boost 510.

Recommendations

Dr Dabber Boost 510
The capability of the Boost 510 depends on the Box Mod you use it with

Using the Dr Dabber Boost 510 with a box mod lets you control heat much better, especially for lower temp dabs. Is it easier? No, but it’s better.

If you want a fast warm up, set it to 50w-60w and it’ll be ready in half the time compared to the Boost. The best option for good flavor is to wait longer for your heat up and use it at 30w. Let is warm up for 20-30 seconds, then dab. Depending on the size of your dab, press the power button in 5 second increments – then let it go for a couple of seconds. This will keep the temperature steady and not let it over-heat or burn.

It’s also hard to keep a desired temperature because Temp Control (which is ubiquitous on most box mods in 2017) is not compatible with the ceramic rod! This means that there will be a learning curve to figure out your favorite temperature: how long to heat up until, when to let go, when to repeat, etc.

Efficiency: Dependent on Battery

The Dr Dabber Boost 510 efficiently vapes your wax. It all just depends on how you use it, which battery you pair it with, and what temperature you pick.

If you don’t let it heat up enough, it will start to puddle and spill over when you inhale. If you add too much wax at a time, the same thing happens and the wax closest to the heating element will burn.

For larger dabs, you need to have only a small area touching the nail (think snake dabs!). Aim so the dab touches the inside pillar only, so it vaporizes faster and hopefully won’t puddle or burn.

Versatility / Atomizer Options

Dr Dabber Boost 510 Nail
The Dr Dabber Boost 510 Nail

The Dr Dabber Boost 510 uses the same nail style as the regular Boost and the other models based on the H-enail design. It doesn’t work with the large XL nails of the Dr Dabber Boost Black Edition, because the new large nails have bigger connections.

We have to give an extra versatility point to the Boost 510 because you can use their glass bubbler with other dab rig connections!

Portability: Changeable

Portability really just depends on the battery you choose to use this with – but on average it’s about as portable as any small rig.

Discretion: Indiscreet – As Expected From An eRig

It’s hard to be discreet with eRigs like the Dr Dabber Boost 510 in public. It’s big, it’s see through, the glass can be seen from far away. Something like this also usually requires a solid surface and two hands to use.

Just like taking a dab, this is not discreet.

Taste: Better Thanks To Battery Control

Taste is much better on the Boost 510 because you can control the power, unlike the regular Boost. If you want really low temp dabs, you can power it at a low 25w for a longer time. This way you can really dial in and control how little or much you heat it up.

It’s easier to keep your desired temperature by repeatedly holding and letting go of the power button. Do this on and off to keep a steady temp without burning your product.

Value of the Boost 510

At $69.95, the Dr Dabber Boost 510 is cheap – much cheaper than the Dr Dabber Boost. Is it a better value than getting the same unbranded product on Ebay or DHGate straight from China? Yes. And the main reason is the warranty.

Dr Dabber Boost 510
The Dr Dabber Boost 510 is sold at $69.95 – much cheaper than the Dr Dabber Boost

At most, you’ll save yourself $30 if you purchase elsewhere. And don’t forget, you’ll have to wait a few weeks to get it from China. The problem is, like the normal Dr Dabber Boost, the Boost 510 mod doesn’t have a removable ceramic rod. This means that when it fails, the whole thing is dead. Dr Dabber’s 1-year warranty sets them apart from everyone else.

That extra $20 cover the security of your products with American service.

Boost 510 Replacements

Replacement costs for the Boost is still a weird category, because you don’t really need to purchase replacements. The nails don’t need to be replaced – the white ceramic rod does.

If you do want new nails or other glass attachments, they are on the expensive side. The titanium starts at $14.95 and the quartz comes up at $24.95 each.

Conclusion

The Dr Dabber Boost 510 mod is a much better, cheaper, and more useful version of the Boost. Get yourself a good 40w battery, strap on, and you’re in for a wild ride!

Americanna Cartridge Review: Affordable and Good for the Buck

americanna cartridge

The Americanna Cartridge offers an affordable wax cartridge that isn’t bad

Licensing Information: Medical Mfg. CDPH-10003480 Adult-Use Mfg. CDPH-10003480

UPDATE and DISCLAIMER 02/07/2022:

A person purporting to represent Americanna has written to us, a whole five years after this review was published, to alert us to the claim that this cartridge was not a real Americanna cartridge, but instead that we were slipped a fake. While this claim is not outside the realm of the possible, it would have been unusual for black market knock-offs to be this common back in 2017; not until 2018 do we find that counterfeits of popular brands “became a thing.” But… we’ve found fakes before?

We are investigating this story and will update it with our findings, if we find out anything. Take the review with a grain of salt until then.

I first saw the Americanna cartridge in Oakland California in a dab lounge on international street. This dab lounge only sold three brands of vape cartridges which included my long-time favorite Brass Knuckles cartridge.

Value: The best bang for your vape cartridge buck!

I couldn’t believe the deal I got with these carts. I was able to buy two half gram carts for $40.00. The first thing I liked about this budget cart was the taste. I tried the Blackberry Kush and Jolly Rancher which both tasted like a fruity candy. No one would ever expect if you were smoking marijuana concentrate with this product. This vape cartridge is useful for those who want to vape anywhere.

Clouds: Big Clouds like the expensive carts.

The cloud capabilities are good allowing for big puffs. This cart performs better than I expected for such as a cheap vape cartridge.

Potency: Stronger than smoking flower

As the saying goes you get what you pay for and this holds true to this product. Its THC strength lacks, however, it’s still enough to give you a head change. Unfortunately, I could not find out how much THC exactly are in Americanna cartridges. You will get baked after about 4-5 big puffs on this cartridge. I can only recommend these if you need to save some money. I personally would recommend something stronger like as Amber Industries.

Ingredients: These are all natural and organic wax cartridges

This cartridge uses 100% organic and strain-specific marijuana. Oil is made in house using California plants. A natural CO2 process is conducted for extraction with an NON-toxic solvent. This is all very impressive considering the price.

Build Quality: The price reflects its build quality because it feels cheap

I recommend Americanna cartridges. These carts can break while in your pocket attached to your battery. I was glad the cart was empty when it did break in my pocket. It had bent, and the bottom piece had opened destroying it. I had taken my dab pen with the Americanna cartridge to the movies and it bent in my pocket. Take into consideration I was wearing jeans that were a little tight. I was sitting down and it bent too hard in my pocket.

inside the americanna vape cartridge

The Americanna cartridge is plastic. I prefer glass cartridges because of the fact if any oil if stuck I can melt it down with a lighter. However, there’s one benefit of having plastic over the glass that I discovered. After dropping my Brass Knuckles cartridge onto the cement floor it cracked it became no longer usable. I dropped my Americanna onto the cement many times without it being damaged. The Americanna’s are not indestructible, in fact, I broke one that was near empty. They can still bend in your pocket if you apply a significant amount of pressure.

I took the Americanna cartridge apart, and it has a wick which heats the oil into a vape. I enjoy the taste of this cartridge more than most cartridges I have tried. The Americanna cartridge hits like no other vape cartridge I ever used. The hits are very smooth. However, they lack potency compared to others like Brass Knuckles. We created this video to demonstrate how you can see vape flow through the cartridge while taking a hit.

Its as if there is a tube within the tube, a wick can be seen that is heating the oil into a vape. The cartridge is a 510 threaded male.

I usually only need no more than 5 hits to get to where I needed to be at comfortably. Being a heavy dab pen user I vape every hour. I managed to have this last me 3 days before I found myself buying more Americanna cartridges. These are affordable vape cartridges for those on a budget. If I had to pick another wax cartridge this one is similar to it would be the Bumblebee vape cartridge.

Overall: Best cheap vape cartridge I have tried.

I enjoyed writing this Americanna cartridge review and while this may not be replacing my favorite cartridge, I found a new great affordable wax cart. I can recommend these to everyone who is looking for cheap pre-filled vape cartridges. You can learn more about Americanna here.

KoKo Nuggz : Chocolate Budz: Review (NEW Flavor Update!)

KoKo Nuggz – Chocolate Budz

(THIS PRODUCT IS NON-MEDICATED. NO THC, NO CBD)

Updated: January 23rd 2018

Koko Nuggz Flavors
Kush Berry, Cookies and Cream OG, Lemonade

When we first reviewed Koko Nuggz Original OG flavor back in May 2017 (see underneath update), we concluded that it was pretty tasty! It wasn’t ‘Gourmet’ chocolate, as previously stated, but since then there has been a huge ingredients overhaul. The best thing about this product though, is the amazingly novelty look. If you happen to be searching for an edible weed bud lookalike – look no further!

Original flavors include OG, which we reviewed below, and ‘Kush Berry’ which we didn’t get to try at the time. Now, there are four more fun flavors to choose from! These include Cookies & Cream OG, Lemonade, Strawberry Shortcake, and Banana OG. So, to ease our curiosity (and sweet tooth), we figured we needed to give them, and Kush Berry a try.

This time around, we were happy to discover that ALL four of the new flavors host a new and simplified list of chocolatey ingredients! This is a positive improvement over the previous ingredients list which featured multiple oils and sugars, but not much resembling chocolate.

The ‘nug-like’ appearance of these candies, is thanks to the natural inconsistency of shape and size. As well as the murky green color and frosty tips. The pops of crisped rice give Koko Nuggz a texture much like a crunch bar, but way more visually appealing!

[Now, before somebody ends up as the embarrassing party guest that takes the ‘placebo effect’ too far – just remember, they may look convincing, but these little guys are non-medicated.]

Kush Berry

Kush Berry is one of the original flavors, with the original ingredients (more on this below). These green nuggz are speckled with a delicate lavender color, and are blueberry flavor. I expected a brighter color to represent berry, but it looks beautiful nevertheless.

The flavor of Kush Berry Koko Nuggz is like a more blueberry version of Fruity Pebbles cereal. The smell is much like berry Kool-Aid – and very sweet! Some found this one a little too artificial tasting, but if you like the fruity cereal taste, then this one might be for you!

Cookies and Cream OG

Cookies and Cream OG is one of four new flavors. While the label on the jar is white, these budz are flecked with a dark indigo color. It wasn’t the color I forecast for cookies and cream, but maybe black and white is too obvious…

This one turned out to be one of my favorites, but mainly because I couldn’t detect much of an added flavor. Cookies and cream is a subtle flavor to begin with, so maybe it got slightly lost in the chocolate. Much like original OG, Cookies and Cream OG has a mellow white chocolate taste and nice crispy bits to add some crunch. If you like Crunch bars, stick with Original OG or Cookies and Cream OG!

Banana OG

My first taste of Banana OG was deceptive because it tasted, once again, like Original OG. But, the second mouthful was a banana explosion! Though the banana flavor isn’t consistent throughout the jar, it’s one of the best flavors.

Banana OG is good because it doesn’t overpower the chocolate, and has a less artificial taste than Kush Berry or Lemonade. These nuggz are decorated with buds of light yellow, pretty much what you’d expect of a banana. Thumbs up!

Koko Nuggz Banana
Koko Nuggz – Banana OG Flavor

Strawberry Shortcake

For some reason, Strawberry Shortcake Koko Nuggz come in a different jar to all the other flavors. Don’t worry though, it holds the same amount of chocolate (2.25oz)! The jar is taller and thinner than the others, and the label is strawberry-red.

Decked with hot pink baubles, Strawberry Shortcake Koko Nuggz are definitely the most eye-catching in terms of color intensity. These pink little ‘budz’ taste like a bowl of Cap’n Crunch’s Crunch Berries cereal, and are equally sweet!

Koko Nuggz Strawberry
Koko Nuggz – Strawberry Shortcake Flavor

Lemonade

Do you like Trix? Do you like lemons? If the answer is yes, then you’ll enjoy this flavor. Lemonade Koko Nuggz have a tangy fruit cereal taste, heavy on the lemon.

As my least favorite, I found these Lemonade Nuggz both too sharp and oversweet at the same time. My fellow taste-tester (and self-proclaimed trix lover) on the other hand, gobbled them up! As somebody who prefers rich chocolate to fruit flavors, I knew this one wouldn’t be for me! SO, this is totally debatable, depending on your palate.

Lemonade features yet another random Koko Nuggs color choice. The color of this lemony flavor is an orange-salmon shade. Instead of going for yellow like banana, or, well, lemonade…

New Ingredients

In our original review, we discussed Koko Nuggz’ claim of being ‘100% Gourmet Chocolate’. After examining the ingredients listed on the packaging, we found no mention of chocolate, cocoa, or anything else related to it. The product tasted nice, but the source was questionable. Since then, the website no longer claims to be gourmet, and the packaging has also lost it’s previous ‘Cali Sweets’ web address.

Koko Nuggz Flavors
Koko Nuggz Flavors: Banana OG, Cookies and Cream OG, Kush Berry (original), Strawberry Shortcake, Lemonade

Interestingly, the original ingredients list is now only on the original flavors OG and Kush Berry. We were happy to discover that ALL four of the new flavors host a new and simplified list of chocolatey ingredients;

  • Chocolate
  • Dairy
  • Cocoa 8%
  • Rice Krisp Cereal Gluten Free
  • Added Flavor (lemonade, banana, etc)

Koko Nuggz ingredients
Old Ingredients: Kush Berry. NEW Ingredients: Cookies & Cream, Banana, Strawberry, Lemonade

Overall, the flavor potency seems to depend on how colorful your nug is. The more color, the more flavor that gathers, and the more you’ll taste. The less color, the more it tastes like original OG flavor. Original OG, Banana OG and Cookies and Cream OG have a sweet chocolatey taste, without overpowering added flavors. If you prefer a more robust flavor, go for Strawberry Shortcake, Kush Berry, or Lemonade.

Conclusion

If you’re looking for a quirky treat to bring to a party or share with friends, Koko Nuggz is a deliciously fun idea! This novelty product is something different. A great option to gift to a stoner friend, comically prank your family with, or keep as a fancy snack for when you are medicating. The improved ingredients list is a plus!

This chocolate candy is not gourmet, but it’s sweet, tasty and clearly, the novelty aspect is what sells it! This stuff quashes your sugar cravings for sure, but is it worth the price?

At $14.99 (down from $19.99) for 2.25oz, and $24.99 (down from $29.99) for 4.5oz – it’s still a bit steep for a reoccurring purchase. However, like we said before, for a special occasion or a sweet laugh, Koko Nuggz are a super unique treat!

Koko Nuggz – OG Flavor

Serving = 2 pieces of KoKo Nuggz/ 70cal

[Claims to have about 20 pieces – but my jar had 12]

The Look

The look of this product is what makes it worthwhile. If you’re after a convincing weed look-alike, you’ve found it! From a small distance, I think it could fool anybody. Try sending a video of yourself eating one of these nuggz to your friends for a hilarious reaction!

On closer inspection, the pieces of chocolate are a pale murky green color with a frosty outer tinge. There are small puffs (of what i’m assuming are crispy rice pieces?) throughout. The KoKo Nuggz are held in a small glass jar with a gold screw lid, complete with green and gold label. There’s even a shake-like powder at bottom of the jar!

Is This Real Chocolate?

KoKo Nuggz describes itself as “chocolate budz” on the label, but chocolate is not listed in the ingredients whatsoever. Typically, chocolate ingredients are broken down within the main ingredients list on a product label. The online product description for KoKo Nuggz states;

“We acquire our chocolate from a source that selects cocoa beans from around the world for their quality to deliver a premium chocolate experience. The percentage of cacao in the chocolate is derived from the cocoa bean and excludes any other flavors or additives, natural or artificial.”

But I can’t see a reflection of this in the KoKo Nuggz ingredients list;

Rice, Flour, Dry Nonfat Regular Milk with added Vitamin A and Vitamin D, Ciranda Sunflower Lecithin, Whey Protein Isolate. Unflavored Organic Barley Malt Extract, Sugar, Oil, Industrial Palm Oil & Palm Kernel Filling etc., USDA Commodity Food Oil, Vegetable Low Saturated Fat, Riboflavin (Vitamin B12), Salt, Vitamin B6.

Quality and Cocoa

When it comes to good chocolate, always look for “cocoa butter” in the ingredients. This ties into cocoa percentage, and in the end – quality. Quality gourmet chocolates do not substitute vegetable oils for cocoa butter.

High quality chocolate uses some form of cocoa as the main ingredient. Cocoa nibs, chocolate liquor, cocoa butter and cocoa powder are all varieties of cocoa. When the fat comes from a source other than cocoa butter (typically vegetable oil), it usually comes down to price. It’s also easier to work with during the manufacturing process. Vegetable oils are more cost-effective than cocoa butter, but less appealing when it comes to taste and texture.

Cocoa variations
Cocoa variations

KoKo Nuggz use “Oil, Industrial Palm Oil…USDA Commodity Food Oil, Vegetable Low Saturated Fat”. The long shelf life and room temperature semi-solid state makes palm oil an appealing option for many companies.

{Not only is palm oil unhealthy for us; the development of palm oil plantations is destroying critical habitat for many on the endangered species list.}

The Taste

Eating the KoKo Nuggz was interesting as I had no prior expectations as to what they would taste like. I’ve eaten my fair share of medicated edibles, but never actually enjoyed the taste. I had never eaten anything that looked like weed, but wasn’t medicated. In that regard, I was happily surprised to taste regular chocolate.

On the other hand, it was disappointing to discover that all I was tasting was regular chocolate. It was good, just a bit generic in my opinion. My expectations were high, simply because it claims to be ‘gourmet’ chocolate.

The taste is very much like a Crunch bar. Milky chocolate with nice crispy bits – simple, yummy, but not gourmet. The reason that’s important is because of the price tag.

The Price Tag

$29.99 seems pricey for the 12ish pieces of chocolate I received. I was expecting something larger to arrive (being somebody who can’t imagine what weight looks like in chocolate!).

I think it’s quite expensive, considering the quality of the chocolate. Saying that, the product looks fantastic, as a whole. Obviously, cost is relevant to the effort put into appearance. Value depends on what’s more important to you.

Personally, I would prefer to go and get a bucket load of Lindt, Cadburys or Guylian for almost $30!

My favorite – Guylian shells

Kush Berry Flavor

'Kush Berry' Flavor
‘Kush Berry’ Flavor

I didn’t try the alternative flavor – ‘Kush Berry’, but somebody agrees about the crunch bar taste! One customer says;

“I always gotta see what the hype is about the newest thing everyone’s buzzing over & these @KoKoNuggz did not disappoint. Tastes like a berry flavored Crunch bar & regardless of it not being medicated, is definitely worth a try for any stoner with the munchies”

Final Thoughts

All in all, ‘KoKo Nuggz – chocolate budz’ was an enjoyable product. The look is great, but the taste is average. I’d say it’s a great gag gift for a stoner friend, or a fun prank for a friend or parents.

I enjoyed munching on these little buds with a cup of tea and my trusty vape. However, regarding chocolate quality and value, this product leaves me wanting more.

How to Make Canna Oil For Edibles

0
canna oil

Make Canna Oil For Your Edibles, Healthier Than Butter!

There are many reasons people choose to eat their weed instead of smoking it. The reason it’s important to learn how to make canna oil is that is healthier than smoking weed or using canna butter.

Orally ingesting cannabis results in a much lengthier high, lasting many hours. It is the safest way to consume cannabis because it requires no heat or combustion. Edibles can be extremely potent, which means you also get your bang for your buck. Learn how to make canna oil and canna butter and you can make your own edibles!

Unlike smoking pot, edibles are introduced through the gastrointestinal tract and processed by the liver.  They eventually make their way to your bloodstream, and that’s when the smile gets bigger. Cannabis-infused oil or butter is the easiest way to make your own medicated meals or munchies. The process can seem daunting, but it’s much easier than you think!

Before you start, you must choose your method. Are you going to use a slow cooker or the stove top? Are you planning on using butter or oil? Fresh weed or AVB? There are many ways of making your mix, depending on personal taste and strength of your product. Just play around and you’ll figure out what you prefer. Here we will go through the different ways to make canna oil. We will cover canna butter as well, but I personally prefer oil!

Decarboxylation

THC needs to properly decarboxylate so that it’s able to convert into its psychoactive form. So, if using fresh bud, you must toast it before adding to any canna oil/canna butter recipe.

Decarboxylation process

(Please be warned: this can be quite a smelly job!)

  • Preheat oven to 225° F
  • Line oven tray with baking paper
  • Break up weed into small pieces, and spread evenly over tray surface
  • Bake for about 20 minutes to dry it up (depending on freshness).
  • Remove from the oven when the leaves are a medium brown and cool for a couple of minutes
  • Turn oven up to 240° F and crumble your leaves while the oven heats up further
  • Cover weed loosely with foil and bake for another 45mins-1hr
  • Remove from oven and leave on a safe surface to cool down (and BAM it’s ready to use)

Using AVB (my preference)

Already Vaped Bud (or AVB) is a term for dry cannabis leaves that have already been vaporized. A lot of people don’t realize you can reuse your AVB, so they throw it out after their vape sesh. Please take my advice and save those scraps! AVB contains residual THC and CBD.  Unless you scorch it or vape multiple times on the same bunch. It’s at lower levels, but still effective when eaten. If you already know how to make canna oil, you may not have known you can use AVB.

AVB is my personal go to for canna oil. An extra bonus of this method is that you can skip the ‘de-carbing process. That already happened when you vaped it. I also like using AVB because I get to enjoy my weed twice 😉

Fresh bud VS AVB

Recipes

The quantities below make potent canna butter.  Feel free to decrease the amount of bud if you prefer a lighter dose. With any of these recipes, you don’t want the temperature to get too hot. It will burn off those active cannabinoids. Instead, heat the mix at a low temp for a longer period. This allows for a more powerful infusion.

Standard Canna Butter ingredients:
  • 1 lb unsalted butter
  • 1 cup water (you can add more if needed)
  • 1 ounce of bud (use more if using trim)

Coconut Oil

THC is not water soluble, but it binds very well to monounsaturated fats in oil. Coconut oil has the highest saturated fat content, but is also one of the healthiest fats to bind with. Its flavor mutes the taste of weed more than butter does. The subtle coconut flavor mixes into almost everything (if you like coconut that is).

My CocoCannaOIL Ingredients:
  • ½ a cup of AVB (about 10ish grams for a small batch)
  • 1 cup of coconut oil
  • ½ cup water
Coconut oil for a healthier option

Basic Stove Top Method:

Basic canna-butter process on the stove top

Add butter or oil and water into a pan. Melt over a low heat on your stove top. The water prevents the fats from burning, and your weed getting scorched.

Once the butter has fully melted, add your ground flower. Never let mixture come to a boil. Simmer gently for 2-8 hours, checking and stirring every half an hour.

Slow Cooker Method (my preference)

Canna-oil in a slow cooker

Add water, butter or oil, and ground flower into jar and secure lid. Add a cup of water to crock pot, and place jar in the middle. Secure lid of cooker.

Turn onto slow cook (low) and leave to cook slowly for 5-24 hours. The longer you let your product infuse the better. When it comes to making cannaoil, low and slow always wins.

For All Methods:

With hand protection or using tongs, carefully remove your jar from the slow-cooker or pan from the stove top (Remember, it will be scolding hot!).

  • Place your cheesecloth over a bowl so the edges are draped over the sides and secure
  • Slowly pour your mixture into the middle of the cheesecloth so it pools together
  • Collect edges of cheesecloth around mixture and gather together at the top
  • Tie top of bundle with elastic to hold together
  • Hold over a deep container and use tongs to squeeze oil mixture out of cheesecloth pouch (squeeze hard to get out as much oil as you can, it may be stuck in the middle)
  • Leave to cool until refrigerator ready
  • Refrigerate until the oil/butter separates from the water and hardens on top
  • Run knife gently around hardened edges and lift out of container
  • Dab any water remains off your block and refrigerate until needed
Making canna oil for edibles
Place into cheesecloth. Squeeze into Jar. Refrigerate. Dispose of dirty water when solid.

Whenever you make a medicated recipe, do not microwave canna oil. This may disrupt the psychoactive compounds in your mixture). Instead leave it at room temperature until soft.

You can throw this concoction in or onto anything. Bake it into brownies or cookies. Pour it on your pasta or dip into it with bread. You can add it to your coffee, or just swallow a cube if you’re feeling lazy. The possibilities are endless, and the highs are elongated.

Remember guys, marijuana edibles have a slow onset and the strength is hard to judge with much certainty. One of my favorite sayings when it comes to dosage;

“YOU CAN ALWAYS EAT MORE, YOU CAN NEVER EAT LESS”

I had to learn this the hard way with the Korova Black Bar. When my whole apartment ended up in bed at 7pm after brazenly splitting what is meant to be 20 doses, between 4. Never again.

Now that you have learned how to make canna oil,  stay safe out there people. Learn your limits and take your time. Figure out how potent your batch is before deciding on acceptable measures. Learn more about the Pros and Cons of Marijuana Edibles here.

Marijuana Edibles: Pros and Cons, and tips for when you’re TOO high

marijuana edibles
marijuana edibles

To ingest or not to ingest; that is the question. Whether you do or not, marijuana edibles are here to stay.

When it comes to experimenting with weed, there are some pretty big differences between inhaling and eating. Your choice ultimately depends on the type of high you’re looking for, and the amount of time you have to kill.

According to Marijuana Business Daily, marijuana edible sales in Colorado increased by 53% in the first quarter of 2016. Flower on the other hand only had an 11% rise. This tells us that trends within the marijuana industry are growing rapidly.

What’s the Difference Between Marijuana Edibles and Smoking?

The main difference between smoking your weed or eating it, is the time period over which your high will stretch, and where you feel it most! When you smoke or vape your bud, the high hits you almost immediately, but lasts for a shorter time. When you consume marijuana edibles, it can take up to a couple of hours to feel the effect and it lasts for hours on end.

THC and CBD cannabinoids are the chemical compounds concealed inside cannabis. Different cannabinoids have various effects, and each strain has a different strength. When you use weed, cannabinoids travel into the bloodstream and bind to multiple receptor sites. These receptors located throughout your body affect many central functions, including memory, pleasure, concentration and mobility.

How it works

When smoking, cannabinoids enter your body through the lungs and quickly enter your brain. Edibles on the other hand introduce cannabinoids slowly through the gastrointestinal tract. After eating, THC is metabolized by your liver and absorbed. It makes its way to your bloodstream and eventually to your brain. The high that you get from oral ingestion tends to be a more relaxing ‘body’ high, unlike the ‘head’ high of inhalation. The result is also more intense and lasts a lot longer.

As cannabis is fat soluble, it’s easy to infuse into butter or oil and keep at hand for medicated cooking. The world is your oyster when it comes to edible recipes.

The Benefits of Marijuana Edibles

Risks of Oral Consumption

No matter your preference, there’s always a risk when taking any substance. Depending on personal tolerance, environmental factors and frame of mind, each consumer is effected differently. Marijuana edibles are absolutely not for the inexperienced smoker, or anybody sensitive to the effects of psycho-actives. If you’re looking for a quick high, you’re better off sticking with inhalation.

The main issue with edibles is that they’re hard to measure in terms of potency. The effects take a long time to hit you (up to a few hours). This means that you need to wait a while before knowing the true strength of your edible. Many people make the mistake of consuming more while waiting to feel the effect, which runs the risk of leaving you feeling too high later on.

Symptoms you may experience if you ingest too much cannabis:

ZERO deaths due to Marijuana

  • Paranoia or anxiety
  • Lack of energy / mobility
  • Feeling of heaviness
  • Nausea / vomiting
  • Extremely dry mouth
  • Increased heart rate
  • Blurred vision
  • Dizziness / disorientation

If this happens to you, fear not! There are zero reports of long-term side effects or cannabis overdose. All other drugs come with the very real danger of fatal overdose when taken in high quantities. All symptoms from weed end in hours.

Tips for when you’re TOO high

If you do find yourself flying too high, remember these points until you come back down to earth:

  • Do not panic. The effects will wear off and you will be back to normal within a few hours.
  • Surround yourself with people you trust and are comfortable around.
  • Drink water. Keep hydrated to combat cotton mouth and keep you calm and cool.
  • Do not drink alcohol – this increases THC blood levels and will make you feel worse.
  • Distract yourself. Watch an uplifting movie or favorite TV show to keep your mind off your high.
  • Lay down, relax and breathe deeply. The easiest way to get through a colossal high is to sleep it off.                 Go somewhere quiet where you feel comfortable and safe.
