Vape Cartridge Discoloration : What To Know

0
discolored_carts

In the few years since vape cartridges have become popular for both nicotine and THC vapers alike, many alert users have noticed an odd phenomenon: vape oil turning different colors inside the cartridge. Ever since the vape lung health epidemic, vape users are especially wary of vape oil that appears to have something wrong.

We’ll give you a complete guide to cannabis products vape oil discoloration here to the best of our present research. Through this guide, you’ll hopefully know when and when not to be concerned.

Bottom line: Some discoloration is normal, more is a problem

Vape oil comes from the cannabis plant and other sometimes hemp, or plants in the case of botanical terpenes. Like any organic compound, these various cannabinoids, terpenes, and other bioactive chemical agents can be affected by a number of factors. Chiefly, vape oil can discolor due to any of these reasons:

  • Time – Vape cartridges actually have a shelf life! Over time, the oil in a cartridge left to sit will just change on its own due to oxidization
  • Temperature – Heat is the number one factor in most chemical changes
  • Sunlight – Like any extract from plant matter, sunlight can affect it
  • Moisture – Plain old water vapor can also play a role in breaking down organic compounds
  • Contamination – Other agents such as mold, mildew, bacteria, or invasive chemicals or additives, can all affect the appearance of the oil

So, to avoid cartridge discoloration and protect the ingredients of your cartridges, you should store them in a cool, dry, place out of direct sunlight. By “cool” we mean normal home temperature. A drawer in your air-conditioned home is ideal. However, do NOT freeze a cartridge! Not only will this cause moisture to form inside, but taking a cartridge from the freezer to vape it can cause it to heat up too fast and break.

Experienced coffee drinkers know the drill: Treat vape cartridges like coffee beans and they’ll stay fresh longer.

The ordinary electric lighting in your room should have no effect, as the light that can break down your ingredients is UV radiation from sunlight. However, you’re still better off keeping your cartridges in the dark if you use tanning beds or sunlamps, or have windows nearby.

As for the time factor, this varies. Extracts (for dabbing) last three to six months when properly stored. Vape carts may last up until one year.

What does vape oil discoloration mean?

Most of the time, cart oil changing color is a sign that the oil is losing its potency. THC and THCA may degrade into to CBN or delta 8 THC. Delta 8 THC has a decreased psychoactive effect while CBN does next to nothing at all. This process is most commonly caused by sunlight and oxydization.

Furthermore, terpenes can also be separately affected by the same environmental factors. For instance, humulene has a boiling point of only 223°F (106°C), while also reacting quickly with ozone in direct sunlight. So the terpenes can be affected even if the THC is still potent, resulting in less flavor and entourage effects.

So it’s not like an older cartridge showing discoloration is going to hurt you. It is, however, likely to lose its potency.

Discoloration happens more often when you buy a cartridge on sale!

Let’s think this one over: Your local dispensary has a sale going on a cartridge brand. More likely than not, this is because the carts are going to expire soon. Dispensaries, like any retail business, have to manage their inventory and be careful not to overstock. When a brand doesn’t sell as fast as they’d hoped, they have extra sitting around and when that batch is getting near the end of its shelf life, they price it to move.

Some dispensaries might also be less aware of how cartridges are handled. So they might have carelessly left a case in the sun too long or transported it in a hot van, and other mishaps. Some dispensaries might have inexperienced employees that don’t know better. So if you add these affects together, an improperly stored and handled cartridge that’s six months old might deteriorate further than a year old cartridge that has been properly stored.

Cartridge discoloration affects all cannabis and hemp by-products

Not only THC vapes, but CBD and delta 8 vapes, can also become discolored. In most cases, the best color for cartridge oil is a transparent hue of light yellow or amber color, close to the shades of lemonade to honey. Some vape oils, particularly delta 8 THC cartridges, are as clear and colorless as water.

Things to watch out for in vape cart oil:

  • Darkening
  • Banding or stripes
  • Gradient color (darker at the top, clearer at the bottom)
  • Cloudiness
  • Crystals
  • Specks or grit floating in it
  • Bitter or sour taste
  • Extremely harsh on the throat when vaping

One rule of thumb is that if it looks extremely weird or tastes nasty, there’s probably something wrong with it. Logically, any full-spectrum cannabis derivative should have some marijuana flavor to it. With experience you can quickly tell when something is off.

Things to never do with a cartridge:

  • Leave it in the car on a hot summer day
  • Leave it on a sunny windowsill
  • Carry it around in your pocket, since that is also warmer than 70°
  • Keep it in the freezer (this is bad for coffee too, which is where this urban myth comes from)
  • Store it someplace damp or frequently moist like a sauna, poolhouse, bathroom, or greenhouse
  • Leave it sit for a whole year
  • Leave it sit attached to the battery for an extended time of weeks or more
  • Vape at too high a temperature

If you do have to transport vape carts on your person or in your car on a regular basis, consider investing in a carrying case. Carrying them in an external pocket, such as a coat pocket or tote bag, is preferable to cramming them in your jeans pocket.

best delta 8

On this list, we have the best Delta 8 brands. Moreover, here we specifically list Delta 8 THC cartridges. This list is compiled by unbiased reviews, on products we actually tested. As we find more Delta 8 brands and cartridges or find existing companies to be better (or worse), we will continuously update this list.

Best Delta 8 THC cartridges

Here on DabConnection, we’re always compiling reviews to see if the product is worth their value. This best delta 8 list will be unbiased and based on our personal experience with them. DabConnection doesn’t promote any sponsored posts nor affiliates. Furthermore, this list will be in the order of their value, dollar per dollar. Just because they’re in the middle or bottom of the list, doesn’t mean they aren’t good. Some are actually great and even my favorites, but they’re either pricier or needs some form of improvement.

Something I should mention, all of these brands do carry authentic lab results on their original website. You can find the lab results inside the review of the post.

Delta 8 cartridge best list – directory:

Dimension 8: Variety of tasteful strains for a great value

dimension 8 review

Dimension 8 cartridges carry a wide variety of tasteful strains, these are one of the most tasteful delta 8 cartridges for its price. Currently, half-gram cartridges go for between $10.49-$14.99, which is a steal. The two strains we tried is Sherbert Chaos and Gelato Ice-cream, both very tasteful carts. Delivering a sweet flavor and with nice hardware, Dimension 8 gives some pretty nice hits. Not the smoothest, but they are 99% D8 THC. Whether you’re looking for something inexpensive or a good-tasting D8 cartridge to try, highly recommend these. For its taste and effects, they’re definitely worth the experience.

You can learn more about their cartridges here.

CannaClear: inexpensive, good taste

canncaclear-delta 8 review

CannaClear Delta 8 is going to be one of the top ones, just because of the value and price of these cartridges. The price for a full gram cart goes for $15, which is a great deal. The potency of the oil isn’t the strongest, nor is it the smoothest, but the taste they deliver is pretty good. The strain we tried is Fruity Pebbles, and it really does taste as the strain says. Not tasting artificial at all, these turned out to be enjoyable to smoke. I highly recommend these if you’re looking for an inexpensive and good tasting Delta8 cartridge.

3Chi: Great hits, nice taste, and the most effective

3chi delta 8 thc

3Chi Delta 8 is also one of my favorite cartridges I’ve tried. From the taste and the effects they deliver to the way they hit, these cartridges are great. The oil quality is a water-clear color and is pretty potent for delta 8. Actually one of the most potent feeling and effective D8 cartridges on this list. Not the smoothest, but still very efficient and effective. The price for a full gram cartridge is currently $34.99, which is a fair price. For its value, well worth the try and experience.

Hometown Hero: Smoothest delta 8, but the priciest

hometown hero review

Hometown Hero carts are one of the smoothest D8 carts we’ve tried so far, on this list. These full gram cartridges contain 600mg of Delta 8, have no cutting agents, and only use all-natural infused terpenes. They are only 80% D8 THC, so they’re not the most potent. But with how smooth it hits and how good it tastes, these are very enjoyable. The only downside I found to this company is that as of now, they only carry one strain, Strawberry Cough. Other than that, these carts are great, well worth the experience.

The price for these is $50, which is actually the priciest D8 cartridge on this list. But because of how smooth they hit how great they taste, it may be worth the value. If you’re biggest thing with Delta 8 is the harsh hits they deliver, then I highly recommend these carts, they really are the smoothest D8. Along with that, they donate a portion of their sales to the Veterans within every purchase.

Custi Carts Delta 8: Fair effects, decent taste

custi carts review

I wouldn’t necessarily put Custi Carts on the top of the list, but this cartridge does deliver fair effects and gives a decent taste. Another thing is they give pretty nice hits, not much to complain about these carts. As for the oil quality, it does deliver fair potency. Would recommend it if you’re looking for a new type of Delta 8 cartridge.

The price for these full gram cartridges go for $35, and they have a fair selection of strains to pick from. Not a bad value at all, but I wouldn’t really say it is my favorite or first choice. These are worth the try and experience, but you do have plenty of options to pick from at this price range. With carts half that price, like Dimension 8(.5 gram) and Custi Carts(full gram), you may want to consider your options.

You can learn more on Custi Carts here.

PurLyf delta8 cartridge: Nice effects and taste, hardware needs improvements

purlyf review

PurLyf D8 cartridge delivers fair hits and effects. Nice potency and interesting taste, the strain we tried is Blueberry Lemon Diesel. These carts give a nice experience, tasting more a lot like blueberry diesel. The price for these full gram cartridges is $34.99, which is fair for Delta 8. As of now, PurLyf carries 3 different strains for their Delta 8 carts.

The biggest issue with these carts is the hardware they use. Not the most effective, nor the most efficient. I felt as if the cartridge prevented me from having the full experience of the distillate. Once the cartridge was halfway done, it would keep getting clogged. Other than that, the distillate itself is pretty good. But again, the hardware really does prevent from getting good hits.

After a while of usage, these cartridges may get clogged, as shown above.

Urb Finest Flowers: Fair effects, but hardware needs improvements

urb 8 review

With Urb Finest Flowers Delta 8, unfortunately, I didn’t get the best experience out of them. Having tried two different strains, Lemon Haze and Purple Punch, I kept getting light hits off both carts. One of them actually broke on me before even hitting it well. The effects are decent, but I wasn’t a huge fan of the taste. There may be a slight chance that the hardware may affect it, but unsure.

The price for these full gram cartridges is $40, and they now provide a more variety of strains from the last time we tested these. The price is a bit high, compared to other brands and cartridges. At this price range, you have plenty more options. If anything, at this point with the price, I’d rather just buy Hometown Hero D8. My biggest thing with Urb’s Finest Flowers is the hardware they use. Just as the PurLyf, except worse, they prevented me from getting the full experience.

Delta 8 Hemp : Smooth, Tasty, Unexpectedly Strong

delta8 hemp review

It is rare that a delta 8 cartridge has a strong enough effect that even the veteran THC vapers can get a buzz off it, but these Delta 8 Hemp (a brand name) pens actually came through! While we have had some issues with hardware clogging on the pen model, that might have been a one-off defect. We do notice that  the CCELL pods deliver smooth, strong oil with a major delta 8 effect. View our full Delta 8 Hemp review here.

Wrapping up our Best Delta 8 cartridge list

Whether you’re looking for something inexpensive, or something that is worth the experience and money, this list should give you some guidance. Maybe you’re just starting off and want something inexpensive. On the other hand, you could be looking for something that hits smooth, since Delta 8 is usually harsh, and perhaps you don’t mind spending the extra money. Again, as more companies come up or update their cartridge, we will update this list.

Kynd Vape Review – Good and Low Cost

kynd vape review

Here we will go over Kynd Vape which is also similar to cartridges by Kynd. Turns out these are made by the same people who make Kanji. When it comes down to hitting these and hitting Kanji, they are actually quite similar and the oil seems the same. The only difference is Kanji is a better deal when there is a deal going because you will often find two Kanji 500mg disposable vapes for $40 while Kynd is a 300mg disposable for $15.

Pros:

  • Low Cost
  • Consistent and strong oil
  • Oil vapes slow
  • Decent taste

Cons:

  • Could taste better
  • Kanji is a better deal and it’s the same thing

Recommendations: Not much to change here, but if it’s this or Kanji and Kanji is cheaper I am taking Kanji.

kynd vapes

Kynd vapes perform well enough for a standard cart

Without even considering the low cost of Kynd vapes, they are a quality product. It’s very much a standard distillate cart but strong. Nothing spectacular about the taste but nothing off either. They use good hardware, and really after you buy these you are left with nothing to complain about.

Kynd vapes and cartridges use CCELL

For the disposable vapes, a small-sized CCELL hardware is used. These are efficient little pieces of hardware that have improved the airflow from what it used to be when it first came out. The hardware is made out of glass. You will find these also used on the Select Elite Weekender, which was great when we tried it but Select carts were not great in the past. The thing is, currently the Kanji is actually better than Select. You might not hear about Kynd or Kanji that much outside of The dispensary and Mint locations. However, it’s a great product.

Select Elite Weekender

Strong, straightforward distillate

From what we have been trying across multiple states Kanji is definitely in the top 25% for strength from what we have tried so far. Kynd beat out a lot more famous and promoted brands like Cookies and Church. Apparently, these carts are made by the same people that make Tumbleweed and Kanji. However, it seemed like the Kynd vapes are much closer to the Kanji items.  I would say that I prefer Tumbleweed sauce carts, particularly The Clementine. Although this is probably most to the luck of the draw so far there were a couple of Kanjis that were stellar strength and were stronger than the Kynd.  On average its seems pretty much almost exactly the same kind of oil in Kynd and Kanji.

kynd vape pen

Kynd distillate oil has a standard taste

Nothing to write home about the taste here and nothing to complain about here either. It has the standard type of distillate taste that you find on a lot of the cartridges out there. Some of my favorite cartridges have a more average type of taste, like some of the Roots cartridges, but they are so strong that it makes a top cart.  The Kynd sauce carts kind of fuse live resin, HSH Live Resin, and even Select Elite Live Resin. All do taste better. If we go dollar for dollar, this still represents a great value.

hsh cart close up

The oil quality is excellent across all we have tried

For this review, I bought six different Kynd disposables. All of them had consistent oil quality and the oil quality didn’t change towards the end of the vapes. It stayed consistent through and some of them sat there for over a month before I had a chance to try them. They seem to be making great quality oil for Kynd extracts.

Better than average number of puffs

The oil in the Kynd vapes wasn’t the absolutely thickest, but it still lasted quite a bit. The Tumbleweed sauce carts lasted longer than these, but these still lasted a considerable amount of time. If you tried Kanji before, it lasted the exact same time. These are way better than any kind of street carts you are going to find as far as the thickness of the oil.

kynd vape packaging

Excellent value but Kanji is still slightly better

There is not much difference between these and Kanji when it comes to performance but on price, which automatically affects the value, Kanji still wins. When you are buying one at a time, you are getting a 500mg cartridge for $20. When you are buying Kynd vapes, you are getting two for $30 but they are 300mg each for a total of 600mg. That’s still a great deal for the budget cannabis shopper.

Also, I prefer the way the Kanji hits a little bit over this one. Even though they are both CCELL hardware, I think the mouthpiece offers better airflow on the  Kanji vapes.  Regardless these things are an excellent value and its shows that Nevada has some of the best house brands out there. If there is no Kanji deal going out there I would definitely pick up a couple of these. For anybody that is just a causal traveler and is here for a couple of days, one of these 300 mg vape might be enough for you.

Have you had the chance to try Kynd vapes? What do you think about them? Let us know in the comments or on our forum.

PenEx : Fake Cart With Trademark and Copyright Violations

0

We’ve had a few readers request that we alert the public to PenEx, a fake black market brand of THC vape. We have run across the brand occasionally, but it seemed rare and quirky enough that we figured it wouldn’t stick around. But the reports keep coming in, so we know this one must be live.

PenEx_boxes_1

PenEx is a rip-off of the delivery shipping company

The Penex logo even imitates the logo for FedEx, a company known worldwide for its delivery services and certainly on everyone’s minds during the holiday season. PenEx copies the logo right down to the negative-space arrow (🡆) between the “E” and “x,” typically regarded in graphic design circles as an example of outstanding logo design.

This should be the first clue to anyone in the vape cart market that this product isn’t kosher. FedEx, making tens of billions of dollars in revenue annually, would obviously sue any legit company through the ground for infringing its logo. There is also no reason why FedEx would diversify into the THC vape cart business.

There are also a couple other unrelated companies which make use of the name “Penex” out there. Notably, there’s a catalytic process used in the refining of crude oil, named Penex. It is owned by Honeywell UOP, which also would not take kindly to being associated with a boof cart brand.

There’s no reason to even question whether this brand is legit, since its name and logo are pure trademark infringement.

WeedMaps_Penex_Michigan

Boof vendors push Penex

Of all things, WeedMaps should know better! This screenshot shows a “Nature’s Meds” delivery service in Michigan. We checked Michigan’s license listing and find no “Nature’s Meds” specifically, but several near misses. They seem to have been taken down now, but still, as much as WeedMaps has had trouble with fake brands, this is an obvious fumble.

We see several plug listings on LeafedOut as well, but they’re ghetto anyway, they don’t care.

LeafedOut_Penex_1

“Premium rosin distillate” in Virginia? Hardly.

LeafedOut_Penex_2

If you can still trust anyone with Exotic Carts as their profile photo, I don’t know what I can tell you. We also have a rare Pinterest plug:

Pinterest_Penex

The classic rubber-banded package together with a name we haven’t seen in awhile, Monopoly carts. In common with that brand is the rampant ghetto graphics designs that freely rip off other intellectual property as well.

We also find PenEx on some online scam sites, likely with the reasoning that anyone gullible enough to believe that this is a real brand is a good mark for fraud too. BEWARE of online scam sites that claim they can ship THC vape carts anywhere – they are all scams that just take your money without sending anything!

PenEx_boxes_2

User are finding PenEx carts everywhere

We turn to our watchdogs over at Reddit’s various cartridge enthusiast forums.

So we see they’re still straggling through in recent months. Our guess is that some fake cart packaging sits around for a long time before it gets filled and sold. Since individual empties are sold so cheap, at pennies per unit, one can easily stock up on cases of them and then fill and sell them as time goes on. PenEx might not be very present in mainstream channels, but it’s just present enough to cross our radar occasionally.

Worth noting for this brand is the extremely amateur graphic design:

PenEx_coughing_Donald

This ghetto art masterpiece has what is supposed to be Donald Duck, in a “PenEx” hat mocked-up after the FedEx delivery uniform, violently coughing up either strawberries or chunks of lung, it’s hard to tell. We’re guessing the medium is a photo of a chalk drawing on felt? I’m wondering if little Chinese kids in sweatshops are drawing these.

Unlicensed, unregulated brands like PenEx may contain anything

There is a deadly epidemic of lung illness tied to black market cart usage. Vaping-associated pulmonary injury has so far claimed 64 lives and hospitalized more than 2700 users, up until February 2020 when the CDC stopped counting. This was the main health story in the news before Coronavirus COVID-19 cases pushed it off the front page, but people are still getting sick off boof street carts. Unregulated vape carts could contain heavy metals like lead, pesticides, cut such as Honey Cut, or simply bunk. Or they could be fire if you’re lucky. But a lot of people in the hospital right now weren’t lucky.

If anybody has more information on where PenEx are circulating, please feel free to help us protect public safety by sharing it with the community here in the comments or in our forum.

CannaClear Delta 8 Cartridge Review – Inexpensive and Good Tasting Terpenes

canncaclear-delta 8 review

In this review, we have the CannaClear Delta 8 cartridge. Smooth and flavorful, CannaClear provides a variety of delta 8 products. From cartridges and pure delta8 distillate to concentrates and CBD products. Not to be confused with the Canna Clear THC vape cartridges, CannaClear focuses more on delta 8 and CBD products. Canna Clear THC carts are more of a mysterious company that we aren’t sure if they are licensed or not.

Pros:

  • Tasteful hits
  • Lab results provided
  • No heavy metals nor pesticides to be found
  • Inexpensive

Cons:

  • Not the most potent

Recommendations: Nothing much, I’d say increase potency but they have over 90% Delta 8 THC.

Made our BEST DELTA 8 CARTRIDGES list!

Check out our video review on the CannaClear D8 below:

CannaClear cartridges deliver smooth hits and good taste, a great mix of terpenes

cannaclear
Overall, Canna Clear-D8 deliver a nice experience, very tasteful.

Not having heard of these, I was pretty excited and curious to try this cartridge out. After my first few hits, I enjoyed the flavor these cartridges give a lot. It’s fairly smooth and doesn’t give any metal taste at all. The main thing I like about these CannaClear-D8 carts the most is the taste over anything.

Nice oil quality and fair strength for it being delta 8

cannaclear-delta-8
Thick and clear oil quality. Fairly potent, almost water-like, but more of a very light gold color.

At first glance, the oil color does look pretty clear. Fair quality and smokes pretty good. Taking a closer look, you can see the oil color is slightly yellow. A very light gold color, not that noticeable, but smokes well. After taking a few hits, you do get some nice effects for a short period of time. Not the most potent delta 8 I’ve tried, but still pretty nice.

As for the effects, it does creep in slowly and smoothly. If you’ve ever tried delta 8, you’ll know the effects of delta 8 and that it’s not nearly close to a high from a dispensary grade cartridge. But either way, you do get a slight mellow high from these carts.

CannaClear Delta 8 – Fruity Pebbles gives a good taste, identical to the strain itself

Unsure of what to expect from this strain, Fruity Pebbles turned out to taste good and deliver smooth hits. Just as the strain says, it really does taste like the cereal itself. Somewhat light in flavor and, you can definitely taste the terpene and distillate mixture. If you like Fruity Pebbles cereal, you will enjoy this cartridge a lot.

Lab Results – Tested clean of pesticides, residual solvents, and heavy metals

delta 8 lab results
CannaClear has a variety of Lab results done for all their products.

Providing a variety of different tests, CannaClear-D8 shows to be clean. This is great for those skeptical about these cartridges. For myself as well, I’ve never had the best experience with this strain in a cart. My past Fruity Pebbles cartridge experience came from an unreliable source and an unregistered cartridge company. But this brand actually has different forms of testing, from pesticide and residual solvents to heavy metals. You can find all of their lab results and tests here.

Smooth, light hits, but harsh when taking consistent or bigger hits

If you’ve smoked delta 8 before, you know that after taking long, or consistent hits, it can be very harsh on your throat. Especially if you’re a beginner or you haven’t smoked delta 8 before. Delta8 THC has been known to be a harsher form of cannabinoid. With that being said, these carts do give fairly smooth hits when taking shorter or light hits. If you’re a regular smoker, you can take longer hits and be fine. But even as a heavy stoner, you will still get harsh hits with delta 8 cartridges in general.

CannaClear-D8 uses Ikonic labs cartridges

cannaclear-d8 cartridge
The hardware these carts use is IKonic cartridges.

Unique in design and pretty effective and efficient, CannaClear uses IKonic labs hardware for their cartridge. Feels smooth and comfortable, and overall has a nice build design. As for its performance, it hits fair and smooth, nothing much to complain about here. It might be nice if they use CCELL hardware, but I didn’t have any problems with these carts at all.

Decent effects and a gradual high, not as lasting nor potent, but still good

CannaClear cartridges come in over 90% Delta 8 THC. After taking multiple hits, you may get a good buzz off it, but it won’t get you stoned like a dispensary grade THC cartridge. Delta 8, in general, doesn’t give a potent enough high like that with a THC cartridge, most don’t. But for delta 8, these carts do deliver a nice and mellow high.

List of Delta 8 cartridges we’ve reviewed here on DabConnection

delta 8 cartridges
List of Delta 8 THC cartridge reviews done on DabConnection, so far.

Below is a list of all the Delta 8 THC cartridges we have reviewed. We still have more up and coming, and in the process of being reviewed.

For its value, well worth the try

You can get a full gram cartridge for only 15$, excluding shipping and tax. And for this price, I definitely think it’s worth the experience. On average, I’ll see full gram delta8 cartridges go for around $20-40 a cart. And for only $15, these carts are worth the value.

Concluding CannaClear Delta 8 cartridge

To sum up, CannaClear-delta 8 cartridges deliver good taste and fair effects. The strain Fruity Pebbles delivers a great taste and experience. Some might prefer a piney or fruity dense flavor, whereas others might love this taste. But for its price, if you’ve never tried delta 8 and are curious, or perhaps you’re just searching for one, these carts are well worth it. You can find more on them here.

Deep Roots Harvest Cart Review – Strong Distillate, But Expensive

deep roots harvest review

Here we review the Deep Roots Harvest cartridges. These come from the notoriously high priced Deep Roots Harvest dispensaries in Mesquite and Wendover. This particular batch is from their Wendover location. The strains we are using in this review are Zkittlez and Jack Herer. What I find after using both of these is that they are substantially strong but the prices are high just like everything else at Roots. If I should be heading to Las Vegas or Reno I would get carts there instead.

Pros:

  • Strong distillate
  • Uses CCELL glass hardware
  • Cheaper than most other carts that can be found at Roots locations

Cons:

  • Still expensive
  • Taste is just OK

Recommendations: We would like to see Deep Roots continue to lower prices and these might end up being a good deal.

deep roots harvest box

Deep Roots Harvest cartridges are strong distillate

The most important thing about these carts is that they are strong. Both are not weak and both are similar in strength. Here we go more into details and into each of the factors of the cartridges. If I was at the Roots right now and was looking to pick something up, these are not bad considering they are cheaper than most other options over there.  I heard they often carry Trendi cartridges at the same price but they were not available at the time I was there.

DRH carts use the CCELL M6T

The M6T is the standard for cartridges out there. It’s glass, it’s efficient, and doesn’t waste that much oil. There could not have been a better pick for the cartridge hardware here.

deep roots harvest cart
The distillate in these carts is thick

Built quality is excellent on the glass carts

I put glass carts at a higher build quality than the plastic. We also get more efficiency out of it because less oil ends up sticky inside.

Deep Roots Harvest cartridges are substantially strong

These carts are not weak. They are all distillate oil and they are strong. Comparing to other carts that are also distillate, I would say they are comparable to the strains we found at the City Trees vapes. They are not as strong as our top picks Roots, Cannavative, and Tumbleweed but they are definitely above average. Probably in the top 30% for strength.

deep roots harvest cart bottom

Oil stayed consistent on both of the carts

There was no change in oil color or quality like we saw previously on Brass Knuckles Napalm OG cartridges. The oil stayed consistent over the course of a about week and a half.

DRH uses thick distillate

The distillate in these carts is thick which is a great thing because you usually get more use of it that way.

The taste is decent, nothing spectacular

Nothing to write about home regarding the taste. It’s a pretty standard distillate taste. I would say that they don’t use any non-cannabis terpenes, also known as botanical terpenes. It’s not too harsh and the overall taste is just OK.

back of the box details

DRH uses thick oils in the carts which turns into a large number of puffs

You can’t deny the oil here is really thick and that it vapes slowly. You don’t feel as you have vaped them too quickly like you feel when using some carts with thinner oil.

Value needs improvement, but so is everything else from Deep Roots Harvest

Deep Roots Harvest dispensaries are known for high prices in Mesquite and Wendover. These are rural areas where there’s not really much money being made anyway. Doesn’t take that much time to drive some products from Reno or Las Vegas to Mesquite and Wendover. They are charging these high prices because they are the only dispensaries in the towns. It’s up to the towns to open more dispensaries so the prices can come down.

However, there are some dispensers that still have low prices.  The prices at DRH are unreasonable and the prices of the cartridges are part of that. You are gonna get a much better deal heading to The Dispensary in Reno or if you are going to The Dispensary in Las Vegas. There you can get Tumbleweed Extracts carts that are better and get two of them for 50$. You can also get Kanji disposables – two for 40$. I would rather take Kanji or Tumbleweed and you are talking about half the price! So overall these are not a great value but comparing to other things at DRH it’s decent. That’s considering that City Trees there cost 55$ plus tax and DRH are 45$ plus tax.

he distillate in these carts is thick

Concluding our Deep Roots Harvest review

This is another high price DRH product that is a product of convenience. If you are in Mesquite and Wendover and you just need a cart or two these might be worth picking up if you are headed out somewhere else the next day you should pick up maybe just one and wait to get to a town with a better dispensary which offers products at better prices.

You can check DRH products here for Mesquite and here for Wendover.

Firelands Scientific Live Rosin Cart Review – Excellent But Expensive

firelands scientific cart

I’m checking out a Firelands Scientific Live Rosin Solventless Hash Oil Cart, and I’m pretty excited!  I’ve tried a few of the Firelands Scientific distillate vape carts, and also a few of their Live Rosin concentrates.  However, this was the first live rosin cart that I’ve bought, but if my experience with the concentrate was any indicator, I knew that this would be a real treat.

First off, I will briefly explain what “solventless hash oil” or “rosin” means.  Rosin is a full spectrum Cannabis concentrate, that is made by using heat and pressure to press the terpene and cannabinoid-rich trichomes into a potent, tasty concentrate.   Here is a Weedmaps article about Rosin, too.

More specifically, with the Live Rosin concentrate, they first make full melt hash from fresh, frozen Cannabis plant material.  Firelands Scientific uses ice water to make the hash, and then they dry the hash and press it into the live rosin concentrate.  From there, they somehow put that concentrate into a vape cartridge.

Pros:

  • Full Spectrum, the strain-specific, solventless concentrate is one of the most desired concentrates.
  • High-quality AVD brand cart hardware
  • Very efficient, with recommended lower voltage, this cart seems to last a long time.
  • State maximum allowed THC percentage (70%) and natural terpenes in the live rosin cart give it amazing flavor and effects

Cons:

  • High price
  • Only available in half-gram
  • No terpene information is given

Recommendations:  I would really like to see the price come down on these SHO carts because they are by far the most expensive vape carts that I have seen so far.  Also, I would really like to see the terpene content on the label.

firelands scientific front view
Firelands Scientific has pretty standard packaging, but the strength and taste are way above standard.

Are the Fireland Scientific SHO carts worth the high price?

These SHO carts cost more than the similar distillate carts and even live resin carts.  The big question is are they worth it?  This cart does seem to be lasting longer than similar distillate carts, but I don’t know if that’s just from using the recommended lower voltage.  I feel like I’m getting the desired effects from taking fewer hits. I also love the sweet, grassy flavor from this cart.

Great Sativa effects

Often I am unable to notice the effects of a particular cart or strain.  I can’t usually tell a big difference between an Indica, Sativa, and hybrid strain.  I don’t get the stimulating effects that people describe from sativas, but I actually do feel the creative, uplifting effects from just a few hits off of this cart!  It makes me clear-headed, alert, and in a generally good mood.  This seems like a great strain for anxiety and depression.  I also just got my medical card a few months ago, so I’m still pretty new to legitimate cannabis products, and after dreaming for so long about getting to go to dispensaries, I’m still pretty excited just to be able to do so now.  This could be causing me to rate the items more generously than someone with more experience, but I’m trying to be objective.

firelands-scientific-close-up
This SHO cart has darker looking oil.

AMAZING flavor!

I really enjoy the flavor of this cart.  The strain that I chose is Tiger Champagne. Its a Sativa cross of Strawberry Banana and Sour Apple IBL, which is a cross of Sour Diesel and Cinderella 99.  I have had the Firelands Scientific Live Rosin concentrates before, and the flavor I get from this Tiger Champagne reminds me of the Tally Mon live rosin, and a little bit of the Strawberry Nana Stash live rosin that I have tried.  The THC percentage is just under the state’s 70% maximum, and is 69.32% THC, for a total of 346.58 mg, and 3.48 mg of CBD, which is only about 0.7%.  I wish they gave the terpene content too, but hopefully, they will start doing that in the future.  I have read that the most common terpenes in this strain are Myrcene, Caryophyllene, and Limonene, but it would be nice to see the specific results for the cart that I have.

firelands lab details
Coming in just under 70% THC.

High-quality cartridge hardware, specifically designed for Cannabis oils

The cart hardware is made by AVD, and they are a reputable cart brand, like Jupiter CCELL.  These AVD cartridges contain an AVD proprietary ceramic core, and are made from non-toxic, inert, lead-free materials, including durable, borosilicate glass.

Similar Cannabis products for comparison

This is the first live rosin cartridge that I have tried, so the only other cart that I could maybe compare this would be the Airopro live resin carts.  Those are the only live resin carts that I have tried so far, so they also have stellar flavor.  The biggest reason I had not already tried one of these SHO carts was the high price.  In the past, I had always chosen their live rosin concentrate, because it was so much more affordable than the live rosin carts.  I am thrilled that I got to try this one, but I’m not sure if I will buy another one.  The price is so much higher than the similar concentrate or distillate carts, that this rosin cart will have to last me a long time for it to be worth the money.  If you feel like you don’t get the desired effects from the Broad Spectrum carts, then the Grow Ohio CO2 oil Luster Pods would probably be your best bet, because those are full-spectrum too, and they are much more affordable.

firelands scientific packaging
It’s expensive, but it is strong.

Conclusion

All in all, I am happy with my purchase of the Firelands Scientific Live Rosin SHO cart.  From what I have read, they put a lot of work into developing these concentrates and vape carts.  The final products showed the hard work and dedication that went into them.  There are only a couple of companies that make rosin at all, here in Ohio. I hope that more companies start to offer it in the future.  I would recommend this Tiger Champagne SHO cart to anyone who is specifically looking for a full spectrum cart. It definitely seems like a better day time strain and is a sativa.

As far as the strains of Firelands live rosin concentrate that I like the best so far, I would have to say Grandpa’s Breathstar, then Tally Mon, then I’m not sure if this Tiger Champagne or Salty Watermelon or Strawberry Nana Stash would be my third place, but I really enjoyed them all!  The uplifting sativa effects from this Tiger Champagne SHO cart are very enjoyable, and I think that using the lower voltage, like is recommended, has been helping to make the cart last a long time.

What are your thoughts on Firelands Scientific Live Rosin? Is the price of 75$ worth it? Did you try it? Comment below or in our forum!

XVAPE Vista Mini 2 Review – Good Portable, Affordable eRig

xvape vista mini 2

Today we look at the XVAPE Vista Mini 2, a portable electronic dab rig. We’ll detail our experience objectively as always in our non-affiliate reviews. The XVAPE Vista Mini 2 currently runs for $159. For this review of the Vista Mini, we will discuss its pros and cons.

Pros:

  • Solid build and design
  • Extremely easy to use and maintain
  • Efficient design
  • Smaller than most eRigs
  • Great battery life

Cons:

  • The battery could use more lower heat settings
  • The glass mouthpiece could be stronger

Recommendations: The glass mouthpiece could be stronger while the battery could use more lower heat settings, which might save the battery life span and maybe even extend the session length.

vista mini 2 box

The XVAPE Vista Mini 2 is a very portable and convenient eRig

From the build quality to performance, the XVAPE Vista Mini 2 is user-friendly and designed to take anywhere, though it isn’t fully inconspicuous, it scores points for portability and ease of use. The XVAPE Vista Mini 2 is a very convenient portable eRig that is easy to travel with. It’s also great for solo use and it’s much more compact than other recent similar eRigs.

The XVAPE Vista Mini 2 comes with lots of cool extras

The XVAPE Vista Mini 2 portable dab rig comes with a wide array of components and extras. It includes the base with a glass bubbler, a glass mouthpiece, card cap, two atomizers, a set of O-rings, 3 alcohol cotton pads, 2 silicone connect rings, a dab tool that also serves as a key chain, 1 plastic buckle for the glass mouthpiece, 3 cotton swabs, a carrying case and 1 USB charging cable.

vista mini 2 components
vista mini 2 comes neatly packed

The XVAPE Vista Mini 2 is smaller than most eRigs

The base for the XVAPE Vista Mini 2 is pretty solid and compact. The glass bubbler for Vista Mini 2 is also optimized for the best hits. On the other hand, the thin glass mouthpiece for the Vista Mini 2 seems easy to break, so caution is strongly advised. This eRig is great for traveling, hiking, or taking it to the beach. This eRig is extremely portable and smaller than the Ooze Comet or any similar kind of portable eRig.

The Vista Mini 2 is easy to use and has a great battery life

The metal base of this XVAPE Vista Mini 2 is pretty solid with a very efficient design glass bubbler and carb cap. One of the benefits is that it is extremely easy to use, clean, and maintain. Although the glass mouthpiece is fragile, it’s designed for the best, most maximum hits possible for this eRig. The power is turned on by pressing the button on the base three times. The temperature is toggled through by pressing two times. Then, the heating is activated by pressing the button only once. The battery life of this rig allows multiple sessions with a single charge.

vista mini atomizer close up

Compared to other eRigs, the strength of this eRig battery needs work

Compared to other eRig in the market, The High Five Duo is more powerful and has thicker, milkier hits than this eRig. The Vista Mini 2 has only 4 heat settings that you can toggle through compared to The High Five Duo’s much wider range of temperature control and session time. This eRig offers a session time of 35 seconds while the Duo can extend your session up to 60 secs.

high five duo unboxing

The Vista Mini 2 is better, more compact than the Ooze Comet

Compared to other similar-sized eRigs, this Vista Mini 2 is better and more convenient than the Ooze Comet, which is slightly larger than this eRig. Its portability is its greatest asset and strength. Although it isn’t completely discreet, if you’re alone, it’s perfect for solo use. This eRig is much more portable than the High Five Duo, which is perfect for home use.

The XVAPE Vista Mini 2 works well with any kind of concentrate

The High Five Duo is also extremely easy to use for any type of consumer. Many different concentrates, such as live resin, sugar or crumble, can be used with the XVape Vista Mini. The atomizer is easy to take off the glass bubbler and switched with the second atomizer provided in this kit.

vista mini glass mouthpiece

The maintenance for the XVAPE Vista Mini 2 is very simple

The maintenance is very easy and not difficult at all. You only have to soak the atomizers, carb caps, glass bubbler, and the mouthpiece in alcohol and wipe down the base of the rig. One cool feature is that the versatile dab tool with the XVAPE logo can also double as a key chain.

vista mini 2 atomizers

The Vista Mini 2 is perfect for traveling and solo usage

The Mini Vista 2 is perfect for traveling use and solo use. The High Five Duo offers more powerful hits, but the bulkiness of the High Five Duo is an issue when taking it outdoors. This rig isn’t completely discreet, but it’s great for solo adventures and a quick session between friends.

The glass mouthpiece seems weaker than most attachments

One of the weaknesses of this eRig is that the glass mouthpiece is thinner and seems weaker than most glass mouthpieces on similar eRigs. On the other hand, the glass bubbler is much more compact than most glass attachments. Both glass attachment and mouthpiece allow for the best airflow, which allow for some big milky hits for a small portable E-Rig.

Concluding our Vista Mini review…

If you’re looking for a very compact electronic dab rig on the go and that’s easy to use, this convenient eRig is for you. In addition to being compact, it’s extremely easy to use for the undiscerning consumer looking for accessible user-friendly features and preset temperatures that this eRig offers.

Overall, I highly recommend the XVAPE Vista Mini 2 electronic dab rig for the portability and ease of use. The portability and ease of use will be the most favorite aspect of this eRig, which also works well with any kind of concentrate. In conclusion, the XVAPE Vista Mini 2 is a very good choice that stands above many similar eRigs for your collection.

IndoCart – Great Strength and Taste, Real Cannabis Terpenes

0
Indo carts front view
Indo carts packaging

We recently picked up some IndoCarts in Elko, Nevada at the Newe Dispensary. They were priced really well compared to the other items they had over there and they performed excellently. Then we picked up more carts in Las Vegas.  One of the best parts about it is that they use real cannabis terpenes as opposed to botanical terpenes, they use real CCELL hardware, and it’s strong.

Pros:

  • Real CCELL hardware
  • Real cannabis terpenes
  • Great taste
  • Smooth hits
  • Strong effects

Cons:

  • Cart is not glass

Recommendation: Make the cartridge glass and it’s perfect.

Check out our video review below. Then keep reading on for the more in-depth IndoCart review.

IndoCarts overall performed quite excellently

IndoCart cartridges might be popping up at the shop near you. So far they are available only in Nevada. They performed well across the board and they left me with no complaints. I think they could be stronger just a little bit but these are still well up in the very top tier of carts on strength.

Indo cart gelato front of the box
Gelato has a really nice color

They use CCELL carts that have the same top as the AiroPro but standard threading at the bottom

These carts look like AiroPro from the top but when you look at the bottom it still has a screw and it fits any standard 510 threaded battery. Only thing I don’t like about this cart design is what it’s made of – plastic. These appear to be Jupiter CCELL Liquid 6 cartridges.

airopro-liveresin

Build quality is good as it gets for a plastic cart

The only complaint on the build quality here is that is polycarbonate rather than glass. I much prefer glass cartridges like those found in the CCELL TH2, BBTank X and Ispire Ducore. Glass offers a lit bit more efficiency as less wax gets sucked to the side. CCELL does use BPA-free products so there is no worry about the plastics used on these cartridges.

Oil quality is top-notch and it’s consistent to the end

Unlike how we previously saw on brass Napalm OG where the color changed fairly quickly on the cart, we didn’t see this happen on the IndoCart cartridges. Both carts here were very consistent to the end. The strains we used in this review were Gelato and “Master Kush.”  There seems to be a good consistency among both of the carts on strength, taste, and overall quality.

indo cart master kush front of the box
Box looks pretty slick

IndoCart cartridges are up there on the strength

IndoCarts are far up there on strength. I think they are stronger than the Church cartridges but not as strong as Roots, Cannavative, and  MPX Live Resin. These are definitely carts that are up there in the top 15% in strength just not the absolute strongest. We should keep in mind that at the time of this review this is a new company and these are still very strong.  I would put these carts above many of the cartridges that we have on our “Best of the California” list for strength.

That’s probably because Nevada so far has stronger cartridges on average than California. That seems a bit crazy since everyone thinks the best stuff comes from California but after we tried carts from multiple states we found that Nevada, Illinois, and Colorado on average have stronger cartridges than California. That’s why this cart doesn’t quite make our best list for Nevada just yet but it’s still much stronger than something you will find on our California list.

indo cart master kush back of the box
IndoCart master details

Taste is excellent and uses real cannabis terpenes

There is nothing fake about the taste of these carts. They are also very smooth. The commenter on our youtube channel mentioned that real cannabis terpenes are gonna produce a much smoother hit than that of botanical terpenes like those used on AiroPro. We are finding this to be true as we are testing more carts and that’s definitely the case here with the IndoCart cartridges.

A good comparison between the same brand of botanical and non-botanical terpenes would be AiroPro.  Airo Po Live Flower Series and AiroPro Live Resin (both now known as AiroPods and the metal battery being called AiroPro) hit much smoother than the standard AiroPro carts which use botanical terpenes and not cannabis terpenes.

Sky Daddy OG by IndoCart might be one of the best tasting carts out there

skydaddy og indocart with packaging
See the packaging for Sky Daddy OG.

Although my below shot did not come out in the best lighting, Sky Daddy OG tastes like the air when you crack open a great quality fresh nug of cannabis flower. The vapor from this cart tastes just like that fresh nug air. All IndoCarts tried tasted great but this particular strain was above and beyond.

indocart sky daddy og content
Skydaddy OG tastes like a fresh nug cracked open.

Value is good considering how great the carts are

So far we did not see IndoCart on any specials or deals, but compared to the other cartridges at Newe Elko, it was priced better than many of them. Considering the carts are excellent all around, they are totally worth the price.

Concluding our IndoCart review

For the reasonable price, we can’t complain about a cart with real cannabis terpenes and a real CCELL. We’ll stop short of saying “You can’t go wrong with an IndoCart” due to plastic cartridges not being as efficient. What would be an outstanding cart in California is only in the upper ranks in Nevada. Still, an IndoCart is a solid choice for the average vape enthusiast.

Where Do Your Black Market Vape Cartridges Really Come From?

0
black_market_vape_China_map

We here at DabConnection were one of the first cannabis review sites on the web to indicate the problem of fake THC vapes. Even before the lung injury epidemic hit, we were already noticing the worrisome trend of cheap, but anonymous, vape cartridge brands showing up everywhere. Since then, we’re one of the leading authorities on the subject.

But we seldom get a chance to show readers the exact path of a black market product, from manufacture to your “plug from Cali.” Because there’s a story behind it that is a lot bigger than just black market vapes. It’s more like an economic war between China and the US, which the US is losing.

Begin in China

Americans have a completely flawed idea about China. Many in the US think that because China is “Communist,” that means that they don’t have free enterprise, commerce, and even money. Yes, China has money, always has. While the Chinese version of Communism still keeps to a Marx-Lenin-Zedong standard as far as upper government is concerned, they have long ago modernized things at the commerce level. This starts with the Chinese economic reforms from 1979 to the present.

China has a stock exchange. China has corporations. China has malls.

China_gas_station

Here’s a Chinese gas station. They drive cars, pull up to pumps, and gas up just like we do.

China_mobile

Here’s a Chinese mobile phone store. They line up at China Mobile for the latest gadget release just like we do at our Apple stores.

Chinese_McDonalds

Behold: A Chinese McDonald’s! They can plop down and eat a Big Mac just like we do. In fact, they have Chinese KFC too. That’s right, the most popular fast food chain in China has that familiar American icon smiling down at all who enter. Mind blown yet?

Chinese_shopping

The Chinese Southeast commerce zone

There’s three provinces in China where basically all of the manufacturing and export occur: Zhejiang, Fujian, and Guangdong. They proceed from north to south along China’s coastline on the Atlantic Ocean, and are the richest areas as far as good old Capitalist commerce goes. The saying in Wenzhou, Zhejiang, goes “The mountains are high and the emperor is far away,” meaning that the city functions largely on its own with little government oversight.

Reason magazine has an eye-opening read on the black market in Zhejiang, where everything from banking to roads have been privatized. Despite American misconceptions about China, one of the best realizations of Libertarian Anarcho-Capitalism is right there on the China shore.

Fujian and Guangdong

While the black market in Zhejiang mainly seems to be focused on producing goods for local consumption, the provinces of Fujian and Guangdong are both the export manufacturing heart of China and where a lot of the counterfeits and fakes come from.

As you see in our banner image, we’ve traced a lot of Chinese vape cart packaging manufacturers down to just these two provinces. But there’s far more to these areas than just vape carts. Here’s a video on the counterfeit shoe market:

And how about fake condoms? Fake iPhones? Fake sports gear? Fake cosmetics? Fake COVID-19 masks? Fake whiskey, which also makes people sick? And for the ultimate slap in the face: Fake money? No wait, we have a better one: $2 billion in loans based on fake gold?

There is no end to the Chinese black market and what they will counterfeit. They will counterfeit anything with impunity, and the Chinese government condones it unless pressured by international intellectual property laws. Somebody should take an air sample in China to test it and find out if the air’s fake too.

The United States loses up to $600 billion per year to counterfeit goods, with 87% of those coming from China. It’s a problem in the rest of the world, too. As far as international trade goes, China appears to be aimed at undermining every corporation from every other country. As the NY Times points out, fake goods infiltrate even Amazon without their knowledge, to the point that consumers won’t buy certain brands on Amazon.

Alibaba_Group

Alibaba Group and other sales channels into the US

We wrote up a post on intellectual property laws vs. vape companies and how they need to be enforced more. We mention the chief culprit is Alibaba Group, which also runs Wish.com, DHGate, and several other online retail sites. They have indeed been sued by countries from around the world over their tolerance for counterfeit goods.

While there’s always stories about how China, under pressure from other countries, is cracking down on the counterfeit market, there’s one good reason to think that they won’t do much about it: Alibaba Group is a huge corporation, basically the Amazon of China. They have had $72 billion (CN¥509.711 billion) in revenue in 2020 so far. Compare that with the United States’ Walt Disney Company, which made $69.5 billion in 2019.

Alibaba Group is as big as Disney. Let that sink in.

As we constantly point out, DHGate.com is where we find the majority of fake THC vape cartridge packaging, all of it sold for pennies on the unit. DHGate is owned by Alibaba Group. But there’s far more to the online vape cart packaging market:

  • Vapes Wholesale – Basically an Alibaba just for vape packaging. The biggest supplier of fake vape gear after DHGate itself.
  • Carts Packaging – Exactly what the name suggests, plus knock-off edibles and flower bags.
  • Cheapest Vape Supplies – Really small site, barely anything.
  • Made in China – Another vape package wholesaler, rubbing it in with the name.
  • 420 Vape Bulk – Mid-sized site, becomign a bigger player in the fake cart game.
  • 420 CBD Pen – They seem really confused at what CBD is, because they have mainly THC vape fakes.

That’s not even all the sites, just the major ones we find. When we’re searching the web for a vape cartridge brand being knocked off or a fake brand altogether, that’s when we stumble upon a new empty vape package distributor we never heard of before. And then sometimes on one of these sites, we’ll encounter a new fake brand we didn’t know about before, which completes the cycle.

As we demonstrated in our recent write-up on fake Moxies, it’s quite easy to find out the Chinese province of origin for any vape counterfeiter hosted on one of these sites. Find the cart, click “seller,” go to the seller’s home page, click “about us,” and the province and country will be listed there.

VapeWarehouse_Guangdong_China

Conclusions

We hope this has been an eye-opening view of the big picture, behind the illicit vape market. This isn’t just about your health or about your local plug. This is an international issue, affecting the world. China, whether by intention of official policy or not, is on a path to counterfeit everything in the world until either all of our economies collapse or we’re all dependent on China. With so much more commerce moving online in the wake of COVID-19, that path is accelerating.

The bottom line: When you buy fake vapes from an untrusted source, odds are good you’re helping China get even more power over the rest of the world. And not just in vapes, but with literally everything that you can buy with money, you should be careful to scrutinize the merchandise so you’re not getting a rip-off.

Kanji Vape Review – One Of The Strongest Out There

Kanji_disposable_vape_pen_The_Dispensary_Henderson_NV

Here we take a look at a vape by Kanji Cannabis, a relatively new brand thats showing up in Nevada dispensaries. We got four Kanji vapes in disposable form and they all are impressive. From strength to taste to quality hardware, Kanji earns a well-deserved spot on our best carts of Nevada list.

Pros:

  • Strong
  • Good taste
  • CCELL hardware

Cons:

  • Only available in Nevada
  • Only available in disposable form currently
  • Not much info out there on it

Recommendations: Make a standalone cart version using the same standards and get these things to other states.

Kanji is another great brand you probably never heard of

Kanji_vape_1

Kanji came to us as a 2 for $40 vape special at The Dispensary in Henderson, Nevada. Surprisingly, it has turned out to be one of the better cartridges out there even though its so new. In fact, it’s so new that The Dispensary’s Henderson menu doesn’t even list these cartridges yet. They list other Kanji products. Go in there and ask for a Kanji disposable vape pen if they got them.

Kanji crushes almost everything on strength we tried around the same time

Kanji_vape_2

We picked up the Kanji disposables on the way back to California. When back, here are the brands we ended up reviewing that we found in Needles, CA: WCC, CUREpods (both distillate and live resin), Select Live, Kings Garden, Lime vape, Happy Sticks, Zofo, and Chemistry.

Theres probably another twenty Cali THC oil brands, including the popular and strong Jetty Extracts, I have personally tried and none of them are as good as Kanji.

The only one that’s close so from California in the batch we got is Chemistry. Kanji, the budget brand, crushed the rest handily on strength. Compared to other Nevada carts, Kanji is up there with the best distillate carts so far, close to our favorites here at DabConnection, Roots and Cannavative.

kanji vape
Kanji vs Lime? Not even a question, Kanji kills it.

Great design and build quality for a disposable

Kanji is not going cheap on hardware. Skimping on hardware can make a huge difference, like we see on BaM carts. Here Kanji uses the see through 500mg CCELL disposable.

I like this hardware style more than the TH001 used by the Roots Broad Spectrum and City Trees, since you can see where you are at on how much THC oil is left. This uses a glass cartridge with metal tip.

A nice add-on from Kanji is the marker on top of the cart indicating if it is Indica, Sativa or Hybrid.

Oil quality is excellent and consistent

Kanji_vape_4

Kanji vapes dont sit that long because they get used up, but the oil quality is stellar. No discoloration or changing as the cart gets used. Oil quality on Kanjis distillate is comparable to those from Cannavative and Roots, some of my favorite brands in any state.

I enjoy the taste of a good distillate, while many users prefer that live resin taste. Comparing distillate to distillate, Kanji is excellent. Much better tasting than Select Elite. If you have tried Kabunky, Nevada Made Marijuanas house brand, the taste is very similar.

Hardware on the Kanji vape is efficient to the last drop

The CCELL hardware Kanji uses has no efficiency flaws. Its about as efficient as you can get for cart hardware that is out right now.

You get a good amount of puffs since Kanji uses a thick oil. The THC distillate oil used by Kanji is very thick and vapes slow. You get a lot of puffs per cart and much more than average.

Kanji_vape_3

Kanjis value is excellent, even when its priced higher

The first and only time so far I have seen Kanji vapes, they were 2 for $40, plus tax of course, at “The Dispensary” in Henderson, NV. Since it was the deal of the day I had to try it. Should I see Kanji again standard cart prices, which is probably going to be $39 a piece, I would still get it and consider it a good value. Its just that strong!

Concluding our review of the Kanji vape

Kanji has done a great job with their vapes. After four of them, I can say they are easily one of the best in the state and probably the entire country. You may not have heard of it yet, but if you see it on the shelf, be sure to grab one, or two, or four.

Readers, tell us how you tracked down Kanji disposable vape pens here in the comments or in our forums. Or tell us about your other “wild card” finds where you took a chance on a sale and were pleasantly surprised.

Lime Vape Review – Convenient Device Provides Smooth Hits

lime vape disposable

Lime is a company out in California that produces a variety of premium products. Here we go over the Lime vape disposable. These half-gram disposables are very efficient and provide nice and quality oil. Although they’re not the strongest, these disposables deliver very smooth hits.

Pros:

  • Smooth hits
  • Fairly efficient
  • Rechargeable battery

Cons:

  • Not that strong

Recommendations: Provide a slightly higher strength.

Licensing Information: BROADWAY ALLIANCE, LLC C12-0000072-LlC

Check out our video review below. Then keep reading on for the more in-depth review.

Lime Vape delivers smooth and efficient hits

lime 100% california
The hardware used for these disposables is nice and convenient, nothing special.

Not knowing what to expect, Lime vape disposable turned out to be decent and very efficient. These disposables deliver nice, light hits following fair strength. Not the strongest disposable out there but the strength is still nice. I really enjoy how smoothly the effects come up because of how smooth the hits deliver.

Lime vape disposable comes with decent hardware, rechargeable battery

disposable vape pen
Underneath the disposable itself, you can charge the device.

The hardware these lime vape disposable use is very simple. I’ve actually seen them, similar to  the Straight Fire disposable. But the hardware is nice and worked fine all throughout my use of it. Since these are only half gram disposables, I didn’t need to recharge my device but I like that it gives you the option of doing so if needed.

Fairly strong and very efficient oil quality

lime disposable
The quality of the oil in these disposables is nice and thick. Not the most thick, but still fairly strong and it gives a nice light color.

This Lime vape disposable lands at 87% THC. And it is fairly strong, but it isn’t the most potent disposable out there. Although it is at a relatively high THC percentage, this doesn’t mean it hits potent or gives the strongest high. Lime vape disposable delivers more of light smooth hits.

But with that being said, these disposables are very efficient. The hardware burns very smoothly and efficiently. Not only that but this disposable delivers slightly light hits, which can help burn the oil more smoothly. These disposables can last a good amount of time, and I enjoy how convenient they are.

Nice, relaxing and lasting high

Because of how smooth these vape pens hits, it gives a very mellow and relaxing high. The strain that we picked up is a Sativa. Although it does give a slight uplifting high, it’s more mellow and relaxing. Also, the duration of this high does last a good time. In general, these Lime vape disposable deliver an excellent high.

Lime vape disposable are high in the number of puffs

As mentioned before, since this disposable delivers smoother and more light hits, it can help preserve your oil. I was surprised as to how many hits I was able to get out of this device. But you can get a decent amount of hits with it just being half a gram.

Smooth and light taste

The flavor that we picked up, Blue Dream, provides a more light and smooth taste to it. I like how light it is in flavor, a slightly sweet taste. Not strong in flavor nor does it taste artificial at all. Some may prefer something stronger in flavor but I enjoyed the smooth light flavor these disposables provided.

Lime Vape Disposable vs Kanji Disposable

thc disposable vape pens
Both providing great quality oil, the Kanji is stronger and delivers more flavorful hits. Lime vape disposable is a Cali base brand and Kanji is Nevada based.

Both half gram disposables, they both have nice hardware, great oil quality, and both deliver a very nice high. Although Lime vape disposable are higher in THC, I enjoyed Kanji’s strength more. Even though Lime disposables are higher in THC, the strength in the Kanji’s feel stronger and the high is more instant. Also, Kanji provides a more flavorful taste. Some may prefer the simple light taste of Lime vape disposable but personally I prefer the stronger, flavorful taste of Kanji disposables. Regardless, they both provide great quality oil and deliver a nice high.

For its value, it’s a decent disposable

You can find these disposables in various dispensaries in California for about $40. For half-gram disposables, this isn’t that bad of a price. Don’t expect anything amazing or a very potent disposable, but for its quality oil, it is a nice device. These disposables still deliver nice oil and very smooth hits.

Concluding our review of the Lime Vape Disposable…

thc vape pen
Overall, these disposables are very convenient to carry and deliver smooth hits.

In conclusion, I did enjoy these neat and convenient disposables. Although they aren’t the strongest, they still deliver great quality oil and a nice, lasting high. For something quick and convenient to carry around, these vape disposables are worth the try. You can learn more about them and even find their store locater here.

KRT Vape Carts Are Fakes : Nothing But Packaging

0
KRTYang_boof_fake

KRT is a brand we’ve been meaning to get around to for awhile. It is often shown as “KRT Yang,” or sometimes with other Eastern / Buddhism themes to it. Not to beat around the Buddha, but KRT is 100% boof empty packaging with no company behind it, to the extent we can find.

It’s not every day we see somebody get a tattoo of a fake brand on their arm:

KRT_tattoo

Wow, that is on a whole new level. Buckle up kids, this is going to be one of those *special* fake cart write-ups!

Rule #1 of fake carts: When researching them, you discover a new packaging wholesaler

Your humble fake cart hunter has been curating a list of every known online retailer of fake / black market / unregulated THC vape cart packaging. Today, I got to add a new site to that list, “420 CBD pen”:

KRT_at_420CBDpen

Now you’ll note, sites that traffic in fake carts have lately made a very sloppy distinction between “CBD” and “THC.” Like “420” and “710,” lots of shady sites online have tumbled to the idea that all these mean “weed vapes.” Since it’s an empty package being sold, there’s no difference if you call it an “orange juice cart,” it will get filled with whatever the distributor has lying around.

Naturally, we also find KRT cartridge packaging at DHGate:

KRT_at_DHGate

….which pretty much means you’re going to find them everywhere. Another DHGate hit:

KRT_vape_brand_spam

You see here that wholesalers will just type as many fake cart brand names into the title as they can think of. This is called “keyword stuffing,” trying to come up for any possible hit they think people will search for. Despite Wikipedia’s neutral attitude, it is a “black hat” SEO technique. Just as with the confusion with CBD in the previous example, they don’t care.

Rule #2 of fake carts: When you get a group photo with other fakes!

There’s these three brands that tend to generate a lot of drama in our circle, because while they are counterfeited to infinity and back, there are people behind the original brand either struggling to go legit or trying to convince us of that. I call them “the Three Stooges”: Big Chief, Lion’s Breath, and Muha Meds. When researching KRT, guess what we found at this street cart vendor Facebook?

The_Three_Stooges

Someday when I retire, I’ll have to get this whole photo as a tattoo. This is peak fake cart detective career. It is never going to happen again. I don’t know what “Unhappy” backwards is about down there in the lower left, but we’ll get to that one when its turn in the list comes up.

Apparently KRTs come in a “Big Black Box,” too:

KRT_Big_Black_Box

…abbreviated to “BBB” on the ends:

KRT_BBB

When comments ask about buying, the only reply is one instructing the visitor to ask on WhatsApp.

Rule #3 of fake carts: When you find illicit dealers without even looking at Instagram

Here’s another vendor on Facebook, with a row of KRT Yang boxes lined up next to somebody’s butt:

KRT_somebodys_butt

Meanwhile on Twitter, #KRTCart yields a hit. On Twitter all the hashtags flow together – again, all they care about is you wanted a vape, you’re here, regardless of what “brand” you were searching for. So the hashtag for KRT appears over a video for Guess Who:

KRT_over_Lions_Breath

Lion’s Breath seems to be stupidly popular on the black market. What, are people eating them by the handful?

KRTMuhaDankAbracadabra

We can top that: An account named Muha Meds with a website called “dankvapezone” (as in Danks) that comes up for a KRT search while showing a video of knocked-off “Abracadabra” Brass Knuckles packaging. Brass Knuckles does indeed carry an Abracadabra line, but it’s copied already. Like we say, keyword stuffing.

KRT_fantasy_gifts

This Twitter account is trying to sell KRT on eBay? The link has since been taken down off eBay.

Street vendors are now just stone cold advertising on YouTube (VOLUME WARNING):

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XYjLadCWC3k

And now for a KRT vendor advertising on Pinterest! Yes, we have a live Pinterest hit, mark that spot on your social media bingo card:

KRT_on_Pinterest

But this vendor says to shout out to them on SnapChat.

We also find the obligatory LeafedOut vendor selling KRT vapes. Then we found this:

KRT_14_dolars

Yes, that says $14! Since scam order sites abound for THC carts, this might be an arbitrary price picked to make people bite. When we zoom in here we notice:

KRT_Yang_sharpie

…that yin-yang symbol looks like it was drawn on the box with a sharpie.

And THEN we get to Reddit…

Not even much point to go this far, but here’s someone reporting life support from respiratory failure just one month ago, with a list of carts that include KRT/Yang.

This Redditor found the eBay carts. This post is a roller-coaster and we are never getting off.

Wait, we tried again and found the eBay seller. We missed out but made it in time for six bottles of deer placenta.

KRT_eBay_deer_placenta

Here’s a Redditor doing a quality test on a KRT cart, the gram cart comes in at 0.5 grams.

There’s the usual swell of Redditors finding these carts and asking if they’re legit, but by now our point has been most firmly made.

But you know what we DIDN’T find for KRT?

Sing along with us, gang!

We didn’t find a LICENSE, a COMPANY, a WEBSITE, a PERMIT, not even a state of origin for KRT / Yang vape carts!

UPDATE: the world of KRT on Instagram

A commenter showed up to take exception to our review of KRT carts. First he posts one Instagram which he claims is the “official” one and challenges us to search up “krtvapes” on Instagram.

Well, perhaps that commenter should have tried that exercise themselves first before telling us. Because it’s clear that if you’re trying to find the original KRT producer by searching “krtvapes” on Instagram, you’re going to have a bad time. A full list of every account we find on Instagram just searching for “krtvapes”:

krtvapes, krtvapes_oc, krtvapesplugplay, krtvapes.verified, krtvapesohio, krtvapes.weedcards_online, krtvapescare, krtvapes_official, krt_vapes_, krtvapes5, krt_vapes, krtvapes6, krtvapes_colorado, krt_vapes_wholesales, krt.sd, krtvapes_ill, krtvapesofficialaccount, krt_oils213, krt.vapes, krtvape.la, striker_krtvapes, krtvapes.oc, krtvapes.weedcarts_online, krtvapestheofficialbrand, verified_distro, krt_vapes_bmd, krtvapecartsofficial, krtvapes420, krtvapes415420, krtvapes310, krtvapes7, krt_vapes_best, and krtvapess.

That is stupidly ridiculous! This does not happen, not even with gray-market street brands. KRT just won the “DANK vapes” prize for most “official” Instagram accounts. At this point, we are all the “official” owners of the KRT vape cart brand.

Same commenter circles back and links to Instagram account krtsd_3, a completely *separate* Instagram account because there’s more when you just search for “KRT” without “vapes.” That channel has exactly one post, submitted here without comment:

KRT_test_denial

We have no idea what that is referring to. We here at DabConnection have not tested any KRT carts ourselves. Perhaps that was directed at somebody who did.

For further Instagram accounts, we found the following number of Instagram KRT accounts answering to the following searches: “krtyang” (3), “krtcart” (6), “krt710” (28), “krtpen” (8), “krt420” (46), “krtweed” (2). That’s over 100 accounts on Instagram alone, all claiming to be _THE_ *OFFICIAL* KRT vapes brand.

Update October 2020:

KRT_Halloween_theme

Unlicensed, unregulated brands like KRT/Yang may contain anything

There is a deadly epidemic of lung illness tied to black market cart usage. Vaping-associated pulmonary injury has so far claimed 64 lives and hospitalized more than 2700 users. This was the main health story in the news before Corona Virus COVID-19 cases pushed it off the front page, but people are still getting sick off boof street carts. Unregulated vape carts could contain heavy metals like lead, pesticides, cut such as Honey Cut, or simply bunk. Or they could be fire if you’re lucky. But a lot of people in the hospital right now weren’t lucky.

If anybody has more information on where these are circulating, please feel free to help us protect public safety by sharing it with the community here in the comments or in our forum.

Smart Carts Vapes Are For Dummies : An Update

0
Smart_Carts_are_stupid

Smart Carts are an ironically-named brand of THC cartridges that we covered here at Dab Connection way back before your humble author joined the ranks. Our staff writer there attempted to make a review of the cartridge even knowing it was fake. You have to hand it to him, that takes guts!

Smart_Carts_fake_1

Smart Carts are a notoriously fake brand

Smart Carts are a fake brand, a widely distributed brand, and to our knowledge we have never uncovered an actual original company behind them. They are so heavily distributed among Chinese black market vape packaging retailers that they made #9 on our top ten “fakest” carts post. Which should tell you that it’s a brand to avoid no matter how much you trust your plug.

We base that top-ten list off the brands which show up most prominently on DHGate, a main conduit for knock-off Chinese goods coming into the US. That list is kind of like watching the stock market go up and down; the names switch around from week to week. Currently Smart Carts don’t show up there until page 2.

For the record, most of the top names in fakes right now still include the top ten we mentioned before, plus the brands we call “the three stooges”: Lion’s Breath, Muha Meds, and Big Chief. They cause more drama than every other brand combined that we’ve mentioned here.

If you want a different view of the fake cart market, we have a whole list of other empty cartridge packaging retailers here. Some of those also have Smart Carts and the rest of the gang. This garbage just goes on forever.

When we say “drama,” it’s because the three stooges brands we mention have somebody currently behind them, either trying to force the brand into the legit ranks or struggling to gain control of an ownerless brand, we can’t tell. All we know is that whenever we say “boo” about them, they squeal like piggies. Try searching Instagram for the #smartcarts hashtag, and Lion’s Breath, Big Chief, and Muha Meds all show up anyway because fakes of a feather

Smart_Carts_fake_2

Smart Carts do not have a single soul behind them

We’re a big enough website in the cannabis blogosphere that whenever we mention any brand at all, we usually have somebody associated with it pop by in email, forum, or comments. It’s like summoning a djinn, they just pop right up.

With Smart Carts, we have NEVER found an owner, a main website, a contact, a license, an application, an email… NOTHING! The Smart Cart vape cartridge brand belongs to Casper the Friendly Ghost for all we know. We do find an alleged “organicsmartcart.com” which is now a hacked spamsite. Of course we find millions of Instagrams with rubber-banded boxes of boof.

In fact, the domain for “Smart Carts dot com” is actually a maker of utility carts, of the sort used for gardening, maintenance, construction, and whatnot. They never asked to dragged into this situation, we’re sure!

We also find a self-driving trash can called “Smart Cart,” which is both wicked cool, and a fitting metaphor for where you should be consigning any Smart Cart THC vapes you find.

Why were we so naive about fake carts at the beginning?

Obviously, like everyone else, Dab Connection had to find out about fake cartridge brands the hard way. We started out just being a review site way back when. It was only after we got our hands on a few bunk cartridges that we started to get suspicious. As it is, we were still one of the very first sites on the web to break the story of fake carts, and eventually the vaping lung illness epidemic attached to them.

Smart_Carts_fake_3

But still, if you go back through the early days of this website, you’ll see us trying to review brands which were obviously fake garbage, which we criticized as such, but still had not discovered the fake packaging cottage industry where just anybody could buy the package for pennies and fill a cart with hot dog water if they wanted. We have kept these posts up for historic reasons and because they still get the message across kinda, but we added disclaimers updating them as being about brands we now know are 100% bootleg packaging with no central source behind them.

The whole vape industry is still only a decade old, with legal cannabis even younger. It may seem incredulous that we ever lived in a world without fake THC vapes, as much as we talk about them now, but that’s how the ol’ burrito rolls around here.

Are Smart Carts finally on their way out of Dodge?

Can we make room for companies more deserving of the term like utility cart companies and robot trash cans now? Open your thoughts to us here or in our forum.

Kandypens Crystal Review – Smooth and Tasteful Hits, But Pricey

0
kandypens crystal review

In this review, we look at Kandypens Crystal essential oil vaporizer. The Crystal does deliver very flavorful and smooth hits but doesn’t hit that strong and could use some improvements. Also currently, this vaporizer is priced at $135, which is pricey compared to most dab pens.

First off, DabConnetion does not receive compensation for reviews and has no affiliate links. We only tell you what we think of the product, good or bad. Here we’ll go over the pros and cons of Kandypens Crystal vape pen, and will let you determine if this product is worth the price for you.

Pros:

  • Smooth hits
  • Tasteful

Cons:

  • Expensive
  • Not that strong of hits
  • Only comes with one atomizer
  • Metal screen clogs frequently
  • Battery overheats quickly

Recommendations: Provide an extra atomizer, and possibly lower cost.

Kandypens Crystal has a nice design and decent build quality, but hits aren’t as strong

kandypens crystal vaporizer
This vaporizer comes in a smooth, comfortable, and clean design.

The Crystal has a very nice design with a very comfortable and smooth grip. The mouthpiece is a simple twist on, made with glass, and containing a metal screen underneath. Although it does look thick and a bit bulky, it’s actually a lot lighter and comfortable than it seems.

But unfortunately, the Crystal didn’t give as strong of hits. It delivers smoother and more vaporized hits, which is what it seems like they’re going for.

Everything included with Kandypens Crystal vaporizer

kandypens crystal unboxing
What the Crystal comes with.
  • 900 mAH battery – Kandypens Crystal Pen
  • Dab tool keychain
  • An extra mouthpiece
  • Micro USB charging cable
  • Black velvet pouch
  • Manual

Operations and Instructions

Operating the Crystal is a lot simpler than it seems, similar to most traditional dab pens:

  1. Uncap mouthpiece and coil cap
  2. Pack your concentrate with the dab tool
  3. Re-assemble cap and mouthpiece
  4. Press 5 times to turn on/off
  5. 3 times for desired voltage settings
  6. 2 times to activate the 10-second pre-heat option

The voltage settings are described below:

  • 2.6V (Yellow)
  • 3.0V (Green)
  • 3.6V (Red)
  • 4.2V (Blue)

Quartz, crystal glass atomizer provides very smooth, vaporized, and tasteful hits but not as strong

quartz crystal glass atomizer
Kandypens’ Crystal comes with a coil-less, all quartz crystal glass atomizer.

What makes Kandypens Crystal different from traditional dab pens is the all quartz crystal glass atomizer they use. This atomizer heats up through a coil-less, spiral-shaped heating chamber underneath a quartz glass bucket. This heating method prevents your concentrate from ever touching the heating chamber, giving more vaporized hits.

With that being said, this atomizer gives very smooth and tasteful hits, regardless of what temperature setting it’s on. But since each session provides more vapor hits, it doesn’t hit as strong. It still delivers decent hits, but it does lack strong hits. From what it seems, Kandypens Crystal isn’t really going for strong hits either way, they’re going for smoother and more vaporized hits.

Metal screen seems like a nice feature but clogs frequently

dab pen
Whenever the metal screen gets clogged, you can clean it by simply unscrewing it.

Located underneath the mouthpiece, Kandypens Crystal carries a metal screen to help prevent dabs from getting on your lips. Although it does prevent that, in my experience, it kept getting clogged frequently. Wax would somehow stick onto the screen, covering the airflow and making it difficult to hit. You can easily clean it by unscrewing the screen, but even unscrewing it can sometimes be difficult when clogged. I unfortunately kept having to unscrew and clean the screen consistently due to clogging, which can get annoying after a while.

kandypens vape pen
I ended up getting out a small-sized glob of wax inside the screen itself. It doesn’t seem like much, but this little bit prevented from any airflow going through.

Kandypens Crystal gives flavorful hits and clean taste

The taste the Crystal provides is very nice and smooth, probably my favorite thing about this dab pen. Because of the way the quartz atomizer heats up, this vaporizer gives the most when it comes to flavor. Since wax only touches the glass bucket, you’ll get great tasting hits regardless of what the temperature settings it’s on. Furthermore, because wax doesn’t come in contact with the coil, it doesn’t give any metallic taste whatsoever.

Decent sessions within a single pack but not always efficient

Kandypens Crystal recommends packing .1 grams per session for best use. And within each session, you can get a few hits and very nice, vaporized hits. But with that being said, it can be easy to overpack if you’re not used to it. In my experience, when I overpacked it, dabs got all around the atomizer and I wouldn’t get good hits from it when this happened. Having to clean it consistently with a q-tip, I’d end up wasting a little bit of dabs. It wasn’t as much, but still something to consider.

Kandypens Crystal is a fairly portable, compact device

kandypens crystal
This compact device is only 10cm, being easy to take anywhere on the go.

The Crystal fits comfortably in the palm of your hand and fits easily in your pocket. Although it is somewhat thick in length, it is slightly smaller than the average dab pen. Regardless, it’s still easy to take this anywhere.

As for discretion, this vape pen won’t really leave a heavy odor since it vaporizes your concentrate. But as with the design, people are starting to catch on the differences between typical vape and dab pens. For me, the glass mouthpiece gives it away and indicates me it’s a wax pen.

Decent battery life, but overheats up too much after frequent uses

Kandypens Crystal is a 900mAH battery, which isn’t so bad at all. Charging doesn’t take too much time and it can last a good while. Allowing you to use multiple sessions within a day if not more, you can make the battery last.

But I should mention that when I use this vaporizer multiple times within a single session, the battery does heat up excessively. It’d get so hot that even the glass mouthpiece would be too hot to hit. So if you do use it consistently within a few minutes, you will have to give it a few minutes to cool down. Otherwise, overheating may damage the atomizer.

Pricey dab pen at $135

At $135, the Crystal is at a pretty high price range. It’s a bit difficult to give it a great value at this range. And along with that, the device does overheat after consistent uses easily. Also, keep in mind that an extra atomizer costs $35, so depending on your use you’d have to pick one every few months.

Concluding our Kandypens Crystal review

Overall, I did enjoy the taste the Crystal provides. You really do get the most flavor out of your oil with this vaporizer. But it does cost expensive and for the price, I’d expect slightly better performance and stronger hits. If you do consider this device, the good thing is that you have life-time warranty on the battery.

You can buy Kandypens Crystal here.

Online THC Vape Cart Stores – Lots of Scams!

0
Scam_vape_cart_websites

Important Update:

We started out finding 2 or 3 of these scam sites, and readers have reported DOZENS more. Some readers report losing THOUSANDS of dollars to online scam sites promising to ship THC cartridges. They run games on people to jack up the price, making up fees, etc.

DO NOT give your money to any website promising to ship THC carts to you in the USA. You may trust a dispensary in a legal state or “last mile” local delivery in a legal state, if they are vetted by a third-party directory or a license in your state.

Assume any operation offering to ship THC carts to you through the mail is a scam.

If you have been scammed: Report it at FBI’s Online Crime Complaint Center. Check with your payment method to see if you can get your money back. The FDA and DEA are aware of the problem already. Here in December 2019 they took down 44 vape scam websites, exactly like what we describe here.

Check THIS POST for an updated list of scam websites as readers have reported them.

Check for more of these sites at The Scam Directory. Report any sites you find to that resource as well.

Again, it is ILLEGAL to ship THC-containing cannabis products through USPS, UPS, FedEx, or any package-mailing service in the United States. There are no legit ways to do this, every website promising this is a scam!

scam-alert

Previously, we wrote about QualityVapeCarts.com and DankVapesCarts.com, two online retailers which had several complaints against them for scamming people. Then after we wrote those up, we found some more sites running the same kind of scam.

Well, since then, our comments section on various pages over the years, as well as the occasional forum thread, have accumulated a menagerie of scam warning about yet more sites.

See This List for Reader-reported scam website URLs. [Ed note: rather than try maintaining the list in 3 separate posts]

These again are just the sites reported by readers as scams. They operate by putting up a site offering cannabis products ranging from flower to vape carts for sale with shipping, just as if you were ordering from any eCommerce website. They insist on payment through an offbeat method, such as Bitcoin, Moneygram, Zelle, or even gift cards. Then they delay you and sometimes even give you a fake tracking order number, but never deliver. If you contact them with a complaint, sometimes they’ll even threaten you in an attempt to intimidate you out of getting your money back or reporting them.

See the example provided for QualityVapeCarts.com, where a user captured screenshots of the entire exchange. This is a typical script, and as long as scammers keep getting away with it, they’ll keep doing it.

online_weed_scam_sites_could_you_not

We see commenters reporting losing hundred of dollars to these sites! If they get somebody to bite even once, they make money! That’s a profitable theft because it only costs about $15 to register a domain and ~$10 or less to keep it active for a month.

Assume all cannabis vape cart vendors online are scams

Here’s the deal: Mailing any weed product is illegal in the United States. You can ship paraphernalia (bongs, rolling papers, grinders, etc.). You can also, under the 2014 and 2018 Hemp Farm Bills, ship industrial hemp and CBD products. Actual THC-containing substances of any kind, be it vape oil, hash, or little green nuggets, is illegal.

This applies even between two legal addresses, because postal regulation is a matter of Federal law. It also applies not just to the Federal Post Office, but to UPS and FedEx and any other shipping channel you can name. Here’s Shipping School on the whole cannabis matter.

online_weed_scam_sites_Morpheus

Since shipping weed is 100% illegal, there can be no legal enforcement of a company selling you weed online. Call the police all you want to, it would be just like reporting a street dealer for selling you bad crack cocaine.

This applies to United States jurisdictions only. In Canada, you most certainly can send weed by Post Canada. Sounds like paradise, doesn’t it?

On top of all that, we already know about the fake cart epidemic, so you should know even better if a website offers a common fake or counterfeited brand. We’ll go so far as to say that if you’re ever dealing with any entity that offers a cartridge brand like Dank, Mario, Cereal, Bart, etc., they are 100% scamming you somewhere, because honest businesses wouldn’t traffic in these.

online_weed_scam_sites_Picard

Why do people keep falling for this scam?

This appears to be a natural side effect of the curious state of cannabis legalization. We have this bizarre case where it’s legal in one state, but not in another, with gray areas in between. When you have different laws by location within the same country, people tend to not take it as seriously. They’re used to skirting state borders to dodge around different state laws.

For example, every 4th of July, chances are people in your neighborhood manage to obtain and shoot off some fireworks, regardless if your area allows it or not. You would never suspect fireworks from the next state over to have anything fishy about them, because gunpowder is cheap anyway. However, nobody expects to receive fireworks through the mail, because all explosives are also illegal to mail.

Likewise, other controlled substances are widely known to be illegal all over the country, so you would know right away that a website claiming to sell sheets of blotter acid would obviously not be kosher.

Further complicating matters is the exception for CBD and industrial hemp products. When you can buy CBD bath bombs for ten bucks at a department store, it really confuses people as to what’s legal and what isn’t. We don’t have this situation with anything else. It’s not like we have an alternative version of methamphetamine with less ephedrine that’s legal anywhere.

NOTE: None of this applies to local delivery services (those can be legit)

A few commenters here seem confused on this point, so let’s clarify: When we say “shipping,” we mean packaging and sending products through a postal shipping service, be it USPS, FedEx, UPS, whatever. A delivery service is a local dispensary offering to personally deliver product via courier. Most US states which are legalized for adult-use / recreational, or have full medical legalization, do have licensed courier operations.

For example:

cannabis_delivery_services

Several Las Vegas area dispensaries which deliver. The difference here is that shipping is an interstate process, even if the package is going nextdoor, because it involves a federal-spanning entity. Dispensary delivery is local, and is handled by the dispensary itself or a licensed courier service (some states allow separate entities to be licensed just for pick-up and delivery). You can easily check if a delivery service is legit just by looking them up on Google Maps and the accompanying My Business listing.

It’s the difference between ordering a pizza and sending away for products out of a catalogue. Everybody clear now?

Are we all clear on scam sites at last?

You all can keep reporting scams where you find them, of course. We might even see people endorsing online THC product shipping stores. We’re going to put our foot down and say you should avoid any business that claims it will ship a THC-containing product to you, until laws change.

Qualityvapecarts.com – Scam Warning

0
QualityVapeCarts_scam_site

We have received a complaint from a user about QualityVapeCarts.com, reporting that they take your money and don’t deliver. This is a sadly common problem in the THC vape cartridge market, particularly in black market in states where cannabis isn’t legalized for recreational use yet.

A Frustrating Exchange With QualityVapeCarts.com

The customer captured screenshots of the whole transaction.

The customer service rep (?) named “Andrew Golden,” says that QualityVapeCarts insists on being paid as a “Friends and Family” party on PayPal to dodge PayPal’s normal purchase protection.

Since PayPal glitches out, they try Venmo next. From Venmo’s own help page, “Venmo does not offer a buyer or seller protection program for transactions conducted using the Venmo app or Venmo.com, regardless of the nature of the payment (or charge), unless expressly offered to you by Venmo.”

The QualityVapeCarts assistant assures the customer they will get a tracking number, but here comes the twist on that:

The package tracking is conducted on QuickMoveLogistics.com, which the user notices is a website created only a few weeks ago.

ProTip: Use “Whois” to help verify websites

Whois” (Who is… ?) is a Unix-level terminal command and query protocol as old as the World Wide Web itself. It’s like checking the license and registration on a website. There are a number of whois server websites on the web, so you can use them from any web browser or phone.

WhoIs.net is one such service. Simply type in the website domain, and get a dump of its registration information. Here’s a handy tutorial video on WhoIs, which also shows the same concept for individual domain webhosts:

Here’s the information whois reports on QuickMoveLogistics.com:

WHOIS_QuickMoveLogistics

The Creation Date tells you when the site was first registered. This shows a date of 2020-03-14, March 14th, 2020, only a couple weeks before this transaction.

As for this case, the user was able to ascertain the domain wasn’t legit by Googling it and noting the shortage of results, which is also an ad-hoc substitute for a whois checkup.

Back to our story…

With proverbial “insult to injury,” the service rep at QualityVapeCarts.com responds with abuse to the customer upon their reporting that the alleged package tracking site doesn’t appear legit.

Our thanks to this user (we’re leaving them anonymous) for alerting us all to this scammer. May his experience make us all wiser!

Count the red flags in online THC cart sellers like QualityVapeCarts:

screenshot_QualityVapeCarts

  • Wants to dodge purchase protection
  • Uses an unorthodox package tracking service
  • Stalls too long to minimize chance of a refund
  • Unprofessional conduct
  • Prices on products are unrealistically low
  • Sells commonly fake or counterfeit brands – see our list of most frequent fakes

As we mention, these kinds of scam sites are all too common. A while ago, we posted about a similar scam site taking money and not delivering.

There’s more where that came from. Only six days ago as of this writing, a Redditor reports a scam cart merchant on SnapChat. Online sellers of vapes are notorious enough for scams that the DEA and FDA has taken action against some back in December 2019. As early as November of 2018, scammers ripping people off on Instagram have been a thing.

Unfortunately, there’s no such thing as a “legit” black market retailer

The whole point of legalizing and regulating cannabis was to have a secure and trustworthy market. We don’t know what happened to that goal, it got lost along the way somehow. But for people who are stuck getting their cannabis products through unofficial channels, we can’t really offer a recommended way to do that where the consumer is protected.

Our ever-vigilant readers are welcome to tip us off to their experiences with online retailers in the comments below or in our forum.

UPDATE – Reading all these comments about everybody getting ripped off, like:

startrek-picard-facepalm

With people losing $250 to $650, these scammers must be raking it in!

Here is the FBI’s Online Crime Complaint Center: https://www.ic3.gov/ – This has to stop, if it can be stopped.
