Gold Leaf Cartridge Review: Expensive, but Great Quality

gold leaf review
Here we check out and review a Gold Leaf cartridge, particularly the Mag Landrace Gold Leaf Reserve running up a total of 88.084% THC,  Mag Landrace is an Iranian Landrace bred by Ataraxia and cultivated in Illinois. These kinds of strains are rare to come across. This strain is  100% Indica. Gold Leaf is using pure distillate cannabis oil with no additives. Overall this turned out to be a great top shelf THC vape cartridge.
Pros:
  • Clean high
  • Very potent
  • Passed lab tests
  • It is completely reliable
Cons:
  • It’s quite expensive

Recommendations: A cheaper option would be nice, but that might not be possible where we got this in Illinois.

What makes Gold Leaf carts unique

The Gold Leaf Reserve Vape
Nice clear oil on the Gold Leaf cart.
It uses official CCELL hardware, specifically the TH2 variant. This means you will get a very consistent hit. There’s nothing special about the packaging, it just includes the safety stickers and labels on it. The label does say that it passed over the test.
The list of Landrace strains is more common than people think; Acapulco Gold, Hindu Kush, Panama Red, Pure Afghan, and the list goes on. Basically, these are wild strains that have been cultivated throughout the years and was kept in its natural environment. The strain on this cart is heavy Indica, leaving a soothing and relaxing high like no other.

Gold Leaf has superior quality oil to most other carts

Gold Leaf cart out of the box
The stand is nice since eat keeps your oil flowing to the bottom.

No disappointment what so ever. The color of the oil even looks very amazing. This uncut distillate packs a strong hit for every puff. Also, a proper dosage can be determined by how many hits obtained by the cartridge, dividing total hits by mg. So 100 hits mean 5 mg per hit. But that’s only what the package says, the potency is worth the price.

Taste is pure

gold leaf vape
Nug run distillate makes for better flavor as opposed to trim run like Select Elite.

This organic product has a very pure taste and has no reintroduced terps like some of these street brand cartridges. A very earthy and herbal flavor to it, just as described. There are no harsh feelings since it’s organic. Very strong in odor as well, it smells just as it tastes. Savory strong herb flavor nothing unusual but a bit of a spicy taste to it, as it is a Landrace strain it tastes pure and organic.

Intense yet relaxing high

GoldLeaf oil cartridge

A very strong body and mind high hits you so quickly right after the first puff you take. Instantly getting you high, getting a heavy-set feeling to the head first and then a mellow body high. Definitely a stress reliever and somewhat of a problem solver, since once medicated a lot of worries disappear.
Wouldn’t recommend if you are looking for a dog walker high, this Indica will leave you too relaxed. But also pain-relieving and anxiety killing. Under the influence, all that is felt is pure euphoric blissful headspace.

Concluding our Gold Leaf cart review…

GoldLeaf out of the box

Being powered by Jupiter Cell and using amazing quality oil makes for a perfect combination. Cartridges like these are worth the price paid, providing instant stress relief. Classic Indica definitely hits the top shelf and making this cart a 10/10.

Transpring Cartridges Review: Good Budget Choice

transpring review

Transpring Enterprises is a vape pen and cartridge manufacturer in Shenzhen, China. They have been in the e-cigarette business since 2004 and entered into the cannabis vaping field in 2012. They expanded into a US based California office in 2015.

Dealing in both proprietary cartridges and vape pens they were among the first to adopt glass cartridges for vaping oil. Today we will be checking out their passive draw vape pen, the LS1, and see how it handles compared to competitors. We are testing out both the cartridge and battery.

Pros:

  • Consistent, thick, heavy hits
  • Passive draw, so no buttons to accidentally hit in the pocket
  • Sleek, silver design
  • Works with most cart designs
  • Long-lasting charge

Cons:

  • Long charging time
  • Doesn’t work with carts that don’t draw air through the pen due to passive draw system
  • Doesn’t fit most vape chargers

Recommendations: Slimming down the neck of the pen slightly so it could fit into more standardized chargers would make it much easier to work with for most users. Most vape pen users have a few chargers from cheap batteries and it always pays to have backups in case you lose the charger.

Transpring external package
This is the packaging I got my Transpiring pen in. I’m uncertain if this is the standard packaging, but it at least does its job.

Transprings cartridges and battery are sleek, smooth, professional

Transpring’s vape pen design is both stylish looking, while not being overly flashy, and highly functional. Its reliance on airflow through the pen to turn on the switch for the heating element means it doesn’t work with some carts, but only a small minority. CCELL styled carts are all completely perfect with it. As well, the refillable carts provided with it are of very good quality. They are metal and ceramic constructed with ceramic mouthpieces in black and white, a low-key but nice looking appearance and all apparently high-quality components.

Transpring external package front
Here you can see that the pen I got didn’t come with a battery. I also couldn’t get it to fit most of my chargers and had to loosen the plastic housing of one of my chargers to get it to fit. It is just ever so slightly too large to fit most.

Transpring vape pen offers both effortless use and ease of fill

The passive system on the Transpring pen means you don’t have to fumble for a button to take a hit, just inhale and it turns on the element and delivers good, thick hits consistently. The charges last quite a long time, usually about a week between charges with regular use in my experiences. The refillable that it comes with is very easy to fill, just unscrew the tops and slowly squeeze the oil in with a circular pattern around the central metal stem.

They are also very efficient, barely even leaving residue behind once it is emptied out. The hits are quite good right up to the end and it works equally well with their carts and others. So long as it has a through-hole to flip that draw switch, at least. Some designs like the Eden and NUG carts will not work with this.

Transpring vape pen and carts
The visual design of the Transpring LS1 pen is quite professional.

Uncompromising taste to the last drop

The heating used in the Transpring refillable cart does an excellent job of not burning the oil in the slightest. This allows you to enjoy every last bit of the oil you put in it, something always well appreciated. Down to the very last hit you can still savor the taste of your choice strain and not worry about those burnt elements that sometimes can creep in if the cart is prone to overheating. The draw is also very quick and the clouds it delivers are thick. It doesn’t have a very high capacity so it isn’t particularly well suited to long travel. That said it should last most people at least a good week or two if you fill both carts.

Transpring cartridge white
The design of the refillable cartridges offered by Transpring are quite effective. They deliver consistent and heavy hits.

Transpring vape pen boasts durable design

The vape pen and cart designs offered by Transpring are robust and able to stand up to regular use. While not exactly something I would call rough and tumble, so long as you don’t actively smash it the device stands up well to minor impacts and occasional drops. The glass on the cartridges feels well tempered and the rest of the cart body is metal.

This makes it very impact resistant. The vape battery is in stainless steel housing but everything fits together flush and feels very solid with no obvious moving parts if any. This also makes it particularly impact resistant. Make sure to be aware, it is still pen-shaped and can easily get snapped in two if you lean on it or sit on it.

Transpring cartridge black
There are no differences between the two cartridges provided aside from color. This makes it easy to tell them apart in case you fill them with different strains.

Hard to ask for better at this price point

While being effective and sleek looking the Transpring kit is also on the low end of cost. This makes it difficult to argue with on any level, what small issues it has are easily overlooked at the low price point it is. If you want to pay out for better then you can, but the offering from Transpring’s pen is solid and it’s cheap enough for anyone’s wallet.

Wrapping up our Transpring vape kit review…

The Transpring vape kit performs admirably on all fronts and gives very little to complain about. This is a vape kit that I can safely say I would recommend to anyone, whether new or experienced. It’s very user-friendly and easy to use. It is compatible with most carts and you can easily refill it without having to perform any awkward maneuvers. It’s even on the cheaper end, making it a solid recommendation for those on a tight budget but not wanting to compromise on quality.

How To Make Your Own Vape Oil Starting From Weed

1
how to make vape oil from weed rosin

Here we go through how to turn weed into vape oil. With all the scare over fake cartridges, many people are turning to make your own options. This goes through everything from start to finish. You will start with flower and end with THC oil you can pop into a cartridge.

Weed to vape: Turning straight flower into oil you can hit from a cartridge

Step #1: Weed to Rosin

If you follow our HOWTO category, you know how to press rosin from flower. You also have several options for obtaining rosin from flower. Once you have rosin, you know that heating it will decarb it – which is to say, turn THCA into THC. See sidebar at the end for why we do this.

Here’s another in-depth write-up on rosin and what to do with it.

Light vs dark rosin

For this video low quality rosin was used. The darker the rosin the more waxes and other plant material contained. The lighter the rosin the easier it will be to filter and less terpenes needed.

Step #2: Decarb

decarbing rosin

Decarb your rosin in a glass vial on a hot plate. Set the temperature at 220°F (104.4°C) for 30-40 minutes. Be careful not to let the temperature get too high; Terpenes and cannabinoids tend to start breaking down around the 310°F (154.4°C) mark.

Step #3: Add terpenes

adding terpenes

Lower the hot plate temperature to 150°F (65.5°C). Get out whatever terpene blend you have to use (we’ve also covered blending your own terpene profile). The more terpenes you add, the more diluted your concentrate gets, and the easier it will be to filter. This is actually going to be important in the next step.

You want to keep the temperature at or below 150°F (65.5°C) so that you don’t damage the terpenes too. You need to keep applying heat and mixing it until the batch is perfectly blended.

Step #4: Filter the mixture

attaching filter

filtering juice

This is where it gets tricky. You want to filter out things like wax, fats, lipids, and other pulpy bits of plant matter. To do so, draw some of the mixture into a syringe, attach a syringe filter to the end, and squeeze it through.

This takes some muscles! Do not apply enough pressure to break the syringe. You want a drip approximately every three to six seconds, which is the optimum rate for a syringe filter. Filters will clog up, which happens faster if your rosin is very dark or thick. See an in-depth tutorial on just filtering THC vape juice here.

As the video points out, this is being done with low-quality, dense rosin. John is doing this by request to show it can be done. Lighter, higher-quality extracted rosin will be much easier to work with.

Step #5: Condense juice

condensing juice

Back to the hot plate with your filtered vial of juice. This time you want 160°F (71.1°C) for about half an hour. We’re doing this to burn off the excess terpenes that we used for processing in the previous step.

Step #6: Fill it into pods

filling pods

We’re finally ready to fill this THC juice into cartridges and call it a day. Heating up your mixture will make the liquid easier to work with – it tends to solidify when cooled. John here uses a CCell rig, which is an excellent choice.

The juice should be left to settle for a minimum of 15 minutes before you hit it for the first time. Best results are obtained letting it sit 24 hours.

Sidebar: Why we decarb

This bears emphasizing: THCA (Tetrahydrocannabinolic acid) will not get you high. Hence just chewing the raw plant doesn’t do anything. You have to apply heat in order to release the actual THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol). There are a number of methods to do this:

  • Smoking – Set it on fire, so easy a caveman can do it.
  • Dabbing rosin – Extract + high heat
  • Decarbing – Apply the heat without consuming it, producing a concentrate which contains THC freely.
  • Baking – You can simply bake weed, extract the THC using an edible oil solvent, and go from there straight to edibles.

Once the THCA has been treated with sufficient heat, it is now THC and effective no matter if you eat it, drink it, or vape it. Why do we have to decarb it to use in vape oil when we don’t have to decarb rosin to dab it? Because dabbing uses higher temperatures, where vaping uses very low amounts of heat. The heat from vaping isn’t enough to decarb it, just enough to turn the oil into a mist you can inhale.

We stress up front: There is a HUGE difference between an edible oil and vape oil. We go through the step of filtering below because vaping lipids is bad for you. When we mention above baking weed and extracting it using edible oil (typically coconut oil), it is also not safe to vape. The bottom line is that your stomach can withstand all kinds of roughage that your lungs are too delicate to handle.

Conclusion

From following this tutorial and the others we link to, you should now have a pretty clear picture of the entire production chain going from the raw plant to vape oil, and several other consumption methods besides. You can also see where things like shatter, which uses a solvent to extract the THC, makes sense now, since it’s less labor-intensive. Here is our guide to decarbing shatter, and another guide on making homemade vape juice.

You can also see where black market cartridges can be risky – it’s not just a matter of dishonest sellers, it’s a matter of the person filling the cartridges knowing what they’re doing. There’s many steps where something can go wrong.

For those of you playing along at home, discussion is welcomed in our comments or in our forums. Hope we’ve given you a comprehensive education! Our shout-out to HowToWeed for the video tutorial as always, and be sure to check out that channel for many other video guides.

Fuego Vape Pen Review: Tastes Like Flower And Hits Nicely

fuego vape review

The Fuego vape pen is an all-in-one dose pen filled with live resin sauce. The sauce is a small batch of full-spectrum distillate from premium craft cannabis. This premium cannabis is grown by experienced, licensed California cultivators. I believe the Fuego vape pen is fairly new. They are manufactured by Elite Molecular Inc. and I only find them available through Eaze. I believe they are only available in California.

Pros:

  • Excellent live-resin
  • Tastes complex like a fresh bud
  • Super nice high
  • Discreet design

Cons:

  • Small tank on the pen

Recommendations: I say a .5-gram tank would be perfect

Licensing Information:

See below our video review on the Fuego vape pen. Continue reading to see our more in-depth written review.

The Fuego vape pen is really great overall

fuego vape pens
Fuego’s packaging is simple and bold

The pen is compact and it feels very substantial. The distillate is delicious and has a sweet floral aroma. This pen vapes smooth and decent sized clouds. Black letters spell “Fuego” along the length of the battery, for a discreet design.

The design doesn’t push any boundaries but it is very nice to hold

fuego vape pens
The pen design is sleek and easy to take big rips out of.

The pen seems mostly plastic but the battery is pleasantly heavy and feels really smooth to the touch. The Fuego vape pen feels like it’s made of marshmallow. The mouthpiece is about half the size of the tank and has the same soft feel as the battery. Fuego vape pens have a bright indicator light underneath that is visible in daylight.

The pen heats very evenly and doesn’t suffer from overheating

Fuego vape pens have a thick cover over their batteries. I thought the cover would make it overheat easier, but the pen never feels hot. The pen stays cool even if I take repeated hits. The vape is never too hot or harsh and the flavor comes.  through really well.

These pens have a very small tank that finishes quickly

I don’t like .25 gram tanks of any dose pens and Fuego is no exception. I smoke pretty heavily and I can empty a Fuego vape pen in about a day. It doesn’t help that the delicious live resin in Fuego vape pens makes it difficult to slow down. The pen is perfect in a pinch, but the size of the tank limits the pen in some situations.

The best part is the Fuego vape pen has amazing sauce quality

fuego vape pen
The sauce is amber in color and is terped really well

The distillate is a nice and clear golden brown color with excellent consistency. It isn’t as golden as some, but Fuego vape pen sauce is more well-rounded. It’s less runny and has a more natural taste to it. The sauce in Fuego vape pens doesn’t leave a chemical taste on the tongue like some distillates.

The live resin has exceptional flavor and tastes like flower

When I take a dose of my Fuego pen I taste flower. Fuego fills their pens with a full-spectrum sauce. Their high-end distillation process separates a broader range of cannabinoids and terpenes, giving the final product a wonderfully complex flavor. The fruity citrus and floral flavor remind me of a really good sun-grown Forbidden Fruit.

Fuego vapes have a very good high despite a relatively low potency

fuego vape pens

I didn’t expect my pen to give me an overwhelming high since it tested at 65% THC and I was right. The Feugo vape pen is not overwhelming but it is very potent. The high lasted about one and a half hours and it’s a nice even high. It’s physically and mentally relaxing, helping me coast through everything. If you want to try something similar with slightly more kick, Friendly Farms is a good choice.

Fuego pens are not expensive and they are an ok value

Fuego is less expensive despite having a similar-sized tank as other pens. However, the price-to-puffs ratio is more or less like DomPens but at a slightly cheaper price. Value is an issue for someone like me who can finish the pen in a day. And I think if I buy two Fuego pens at a time I’ll just smoke both the same day.

They have better value if you use them like a portable joint

fuego vape pens
They are very portable pens that last longer than most disposables

Fuego vape pens are perfect for irregular use. They are discreet and good to use on a busy weekend or a nice hike. They are compact enough to take to a wedding unnoticed. Fuego vape pens are joints but without the hassle of lighting and diminishing taste.

Longer hits mean bigger doses and fewer puffs

The packaging for Fuego vape pens suggests a 2-second pull is a dose. For me, that pull is too small and I take 4-second pulls. These pens are not for anyone who wants big puffy clouds, but I still get good-sized hits. I only have to take 2 nice hits and the high slowly sets in.

I would definitely buy Fuego again

The pen is disposable and plastic with a small tank. But the live-resin is worth the experience. The sauce in Fuego vape pens vapes smooth but it’s a fairly small amount. For 25$ Fuego pens offer premium live-resin with delicious taste. I am not going to buy these pens every day, but I will get them regularly for a quick sauce fix.

Concluding my review of Fuego vape pens

I had a great experience overall. I really enjoy the flavor of the sauce in Fuego vape pens. This pen fits well into anything I have to do throughout the day. I have an issue with the size of the tank, but that goes for every disposable with a .25 gram tank. With Fuego vape pens i pay for taste and that sauce is delicious, making the pen well worth the price.

Fuego doesn’t have a website as of finishing this review but you can check availability in your area with Eaze.

Pure Vibe Vape Pen Review: Tiny But Strong

pure vibe vape pen review

Pure Vibe vape pens use THC distillate oil that comes in very clear. Overall, this turned out to be a great vape pen but they could have upgraded the hardware a little bit to make it hit harder. I got this cartridge up in Colorado and we hope to see this brand available in more areas in the future.

Overall, it turned out to be high-quality oil with great effects and something I would get again.

Pros:

  • Great oil quality
  • Oil vape slow
  • Good strength
  • Good taste

Cons:

  • Oil sometimes does come out of the mouthpiece
  • Hardware could hit harder

Recommendations: It will be nice to switch this to a different hardware style that might hit a little bit stronger.

Pure Vibe Vape Pen proves to be an overall a high-quality product

All aspects of the Pure Vibe vape pen are good. The effects are energetic. The hardware at first seemed disappointing, but once you get the hang of using the carb you can get a pretty strong hit out of it. Combined with the fact that it’s thick THC oil vaped really slow, the Pure Vibe vape is a great product. It’s also full spectrum, but I could not tell how that made it different in effects from other distillate carts.

For this review, we tested the Pure Vibe Full Spectrum vape pen in Sativa. It was 300mg of oil.

pure vibe vape pen
Nice light-colored oil on the Pure Vibe.

Design and Build Quality on Pure Vibe vape pens is good, but it could hit even harder

The current hardware used on the Pure Vibe vape pen is pretty decent. It just does not give a super kick to the hit by default. If you use the carb you can get a stronger hit out of it.

If they upgrade the hardware, this would be even stronger. When you take a look at the in-tank coils in the cartridge, they are pretty small. Much smaller than what you see in CCELL and that might be the reason why the hit is not as hard.

pure vibe mouthpiece
A little bit of oil can leak out of the mouthpiece.

The packaging comes in as pretty standard, and comes in a nice little box. Pure Vibe has awesome quality, nothing to complain about. Throughout the entire use of the vape, it provides the same consistency, it is thick, it looks good, and it looks very similar to the distillate found on Cannavative cartridges and Aces Extracts cartridges.

It’s a little bit lighter than the Aces and a little bit darker than the Cannavative,  right in between.

pure vibe test results
It comes in at just over 80% THC, but I thought this was stronger than Raw Garden at 92%.

Pure Vibe really delivers on strength

I’ve been hitting the Sativa version of their vape pen. If they have a stronger hitting vape pen with larger intake holes, we probably can get a much stronger effect. However, as is, the Pure Vibe vape pen still delivers.

The strength is comparable with many other top brands we have tried in California and Nevada, and this Colorado vape pen is not a disappointment in strength. It’s just that, it could be even stronger. With better hardware, this might outperform all of the best cartridges that we have in other States.

At some point, we hope to pick up a syringe of Pure Vibe oil if it’s available and we’ll test it out on something like a CCELL or SPRK cartridge. then we’ll see how strong this thing can get.

Comparing Pure Vibe to the most popular vape cartridge brands

However, compared to some popular California brands, even with not-as-hard-hitting hardware, I would put Pure Vibe above Cookies, Stiiizy, and Brass Knuckles on strength. Pure Vibe is way ahead of these cartridges when it comes to strength.

Compared to Nevada brands, I would put Pure Vibe above Polaris, Rhythm, and Kynd cartridges. It’s slightly behind Cannavative and Roots on strength.

Colorado to Colorado put Pure Vibe’s strength on par with Eureka Vapor. Some Airo Pro carts seemed stronger, some a little weaker. I bet if I try more Pure Vibe vapes overall it will be on par with Airo Pro. Pure Vibe is stronger than Javelina. I might complain a bit about Pure Vibe’s hardware, but javelinas is a new level of hardware restricting quality oil.

pure vibe
A nice S on top to remind you it’s Sativa.

Pure Vibe THC oils taste like a standard distillate, but I like it

The THC oil on the Pure Vibe Pen tastes good. It tastes just like a distillate oil. It reminds me of the taste from the Cannavative cartridges. Its nothing like the taste so fine with the Airo Pro cartridges or the RAD vape that are heavily flavored. However, that’s fine, I particularly like this taste and I know a lot of people do as well. There’s nothing off-putting about the taste.

Efficiency is good due to low hole placement

The intake hole placement is pretty low and it’s strategically placed where there’s nothing to waste out of the oil in this cartridge. Overall, the efficiency is about as good as it can get and we’re seeing more cartridges converge to make gains on efficiency. Efficiency is becoming less of an issue on cartridges. However, it still tends to be an issue on things like the G Pen Gio Pod, the CCELL Dart, and Uno.

Pure Vibe is a little bit expensive for what it comes with

Pure Vibe vape pens are $38 per piece for a 300mg dose where I went in CO. This might be a little more expensive than usual because I was at a border town when I purchased it. Things might be slightly less in the middle of CO.

Compare to a half gram of other cartridges that range for about $40, it is not the best dollar deal that you can have if you got your own battery. However, given its unique oil and that it tastes good, I will still get more in the future.

pure vibe packaging
The vape comes in a tube that comes in the box.

Concluding our Pen Vibe Vape Pen review…

Pure Vibe turned out to be pretty awesome. Definitely, something that I will try again, and the quality was top-notch. I would love to see this in the syringe format so we can put it on our hardware or see it on an already done CCELL setup.

I recommend trying out Pure Vibe if ever you’re in Colorado or when they come to your state. You can find more information on Pure Vibe here and see more pics of their products on their Instagram.

The Pen Depot Sells Unregistered Cartridge Brands

0
the pen depot festival vendor booth

So we’ve all seen music festivals and cannabis events where vendors pop up and sell various products from their booths. Here we cover The Pen Depot, which in their videos are pictured selling various cartridges that use generic packaging sold on DHgate and Alibaba.

The Pen Depot seems to offer some sketchy vape cart brands

The Pen Depot is one of those outfits that just barely exists themselves. At first glance, they seem to be a “lifestyle brand,” with nothing but T-shirts offered on their shop. They claim just this on their ‘about’ page. Given that their logo is a blatant rip-off of a home improvement retailer chain, they might be well-advised to not attract too much attention to themselves.

It isn’t until you view the videos on the content page that you really get the 411 on what’s going down at Pen Depot. Goodness, so many black market oilpen brands in one place!

fake brand Exotic carts

Exotic

fake brand Supreme carts

Supreme

fake brand DankWoods carts

DankWoods – Is that the Cali logo back there?

fake brand Dank carts

Dank

It’s like an old photo album of fake brands we’ve covered before!

And for an interesting plot twist, a brand that’s real but is struggling against counterfeit knock-offs:

counterfeit Roves?

Is this Rove?

So many carts, so much mystery

We’re not going to pass judgment on what’s in these carts. For all we know, The Pen Depot could be filling them on their own and using quality ingredients. Or, they could have bought them second-hand believing them all to be real brands and whoever filled them beforehand used quality ingredients.

Or, well, they could be tested and found to be contaminated with heavy metal, pesticides, vitamin E acetate, who knows?

A logical question:

If you’re just filling cartridges yourself, and you just bought a run of empty shells off DHGate or whatever just to have the hardware… why go to the trouble of using so many “brands”? Why not just sell one? They all contain the same ingredients anyway.

Unless you wanted to preserve the illusion of consumer choice. Unless a customer who had been burned by a bunk cart under fake brand “A” was now convinced that fake brand “B” was safer. Or you were a very naive festival vendor who filled orders in a rush.

The Pen Depot has social media accounts under @ThePenDepot710 , if you notice at the end of their videos. The trouble is, we did find the hashtag on Instagram and sure enough, it’s loaded with more fake brand cart shots. At the time of this writing, guess what’s the FIRST post we find at Instagram under this tag?

cartridge manual filling machine

You can’t make this stuff up. Our searches turned up no support for this company to exist beyond its own website, no Instagram account, no Twitter account, no Facebook account. They never personally appear to claim their own hashtag.

Incidentally, if you think “Aha, I’ll go look up the festival organizer and ask them if The Pen Depot had a license,” that’s another dead end. Because highlifemusicfestival.com is a registered domain, but it appears to be domain-squatted with a bunch of generic filler text instead of any actual information about the festival! We’ve got another underground rave scene on our hands.

Anybody care to weigh in on The Pen Depot?

Home Depot, how are you set with this vendor’s logo? Pen Depot, what’s the story? Rove, did you fill this order? Anybody who attended High Life Music Festival, did you try anything out?

Post below or in our forums! We would love to hear your responses.

Bloom One Vape Pen Review: Small Amount of THC Oil, Not Strong

bloom one review

This time we’re having a look at the Bloom One vape pen, particularly the Pineapple Express strain.  cartridge, AKA the Bloom One PEX. The Bloom One is a single-unit disposable oil pen with an atomizer and battery built in. It’s made for being a “Weekend Warrior” as the site puts it, then thrown away. The Bloom One PEX turned out to be a disappointment.

Licensing Information:

The Bloom One vape pen was small and not strong

Upon locating the Bloom PEX hybrid cartridge, it’s disappointingly small at 350mg.

Nice packaging on the Bloom vape

bloom one vape pen
The packaging was good, but the oil was weak.

It feels as if Bloom One is more focused on public image rather than actual cartridge itself. There’s an excess of material, flashy and attention-grabbing. Inside, there’s a pen secured with a button tab and twist mechanism that takes some fumbling to get loose, with a tiny button to eject the cap.

Big hitters won’t be satisfied with the Bloom One vape

The Bloom PEX cartridge is not built for heavy users. The packaging says the THC level is 85%, but it feels like less. The first hit is milky, lightly searing your back throat like cayenne pepper. The box recommends that you hit the THC pen for three seconds, but that doesn’t seem to yield much difference in results. The instructions even caution to draw slow and easy and only use once per hour.

Taste is artificial and some might like that, but many will not

Even for casual users, there’s better options available than the Bloom PEX. The flavor is artificial-tasting, bringing to mind a Brass Knuckles cartridge. This is pineapple too, which is pretty hard to mess up considering it’s a common hybrid strain that’s very well-supported by terpenes. The tropical tastes are just muted.

The pineapple hybrid strain is noted for its anti-stress and anti-depression properties, but it would help if the cart was stronger. As for artificial tasting vapes, Airo Pro might be a better choice for most since is substantially stronger.

Safety features: auto-shut off

The Bloom One battery allows for 10 second pulls on full charge and the first few hits. As the cartridge nears empty, the system will limit the amount of time you can pull it. It might be a nuisance to some but seems like a safety measure to keep it from burning. When the oil is completely emptied, the battery will start to flash while inhaling. It’s a disposable cartridge, so that’s the end of its story. Not a bad feature though as many vapes you might keep burning it.

Overall, the Bloom One could use improvement, but we will try it again

bloom pex
If they make it stronger we will definitely try it again.

For what it’s worth, the Bloom One PEX seems to be designed for one target market to the exclusion of all others. It is discrete and portable, made to do its humble job and be disposed of. Overall, it could do a lot better.

Have you had a Bloom One Vape?

Cannavative Cartridges Review: Clear and Strong Oil

cannavative cartridge review

Cannavative cartridges use THC distillate oil that comes with a clear look. Overall, they are high quality vape carts that deliver excellent strength. They’re a Nevada only brand but they’re one of the best brands I’ve tried to date. They’re available at both Essence in Las Vegas and Tsaa Nesunkwa in Ely. They made our best cartridges Nevada list.

Pros:

  • Great oil quality
  • Authentic CCELL hardware
  • Great Strength
  • Good Taste

Cons:

  • Only available in Nevada

Recommendations: If it is more widely available, it would be nice. Some people might like some flavor adding, but we do like the original distillate taste.

Update 7/20/2020: Cannavative now has 2 cartridge versions, Live Clear and Resin8. This review covers the Live Clear, which we think is the best of the two.

See our video review of Cannavative below. Keep reading on for a more in-depth review.

Cannavative cartridges are overall top-notch

cannavative cartridge
The oil looks awesome in the Alaska Jack Clear cart.

Cannavative uses CCELL hardware, specifically the TH2, which is a glass body with a ceramic top. This is the best of the CCELL line, and on top of that, they’re using awesome quality oil. I’ve now tried 5 Cannavative cartridges. Combined with good taste, excellent hardware, and great oil quality, Cannavative made our best cartridges Nevada list.

The three strains used in this review are La Chocolat, Double Dream, and Alaska Jack, which appears to be a Cannavative-specific strain. Mostly likely a cross between Alaskan Thunderfuck and Jack Herer strains.  I bought two of the Alaska Jack carts, should have got more. There was another cart I bought originally and I forgot the strain name.

Design and Build Quality on Cannavative cartridges is the best, they use the best CCELL variant

Currently, Cannavative uses the TH2 glass cartridge CCELL. There are some cartridges that I would say are as good as this cartridge including the SPRK cartridge. However, this is top-notch and they really could have not picked anything better. The hits are good and smooth, and there’s no burning taste when you hit it hard like on the G Pen Gio.

cannavative la chocolat
Nice slide outbox for the Cannavative carts

The packaging of the Cannavative is also pretty unique. It comes inside a bag and then inside a box. This does seem to be a little much packaging, but you will definitely know it’s a Cannavative product when you see it as they use the same bags for everything. It appears to be all recyclable materials.

Oil quality in Cannavative is best of best, no color changes at all

After 5 Cannavative cartridges and none of them has any issues with oil changing color throughout the operation of the cartridge or any other general issues on oil quality. The oil is extremely thick and Cannavative uses no additives or thickeners. It’s pretty much distillates and terpenes. Nothing to complain about here.

Strength on Cannavative is amazing

cannavative double dream live test results
It comes in at 80% THC, but stronger than many above 90%.

So far their sativa cartridges seem to be stronger than their indica cartridges. I would say overall the entire line up is very strong, even the indicas. We are just comparing strong to stronger. Nothing from Cannavative is average strength.

I can pretty much get any Cannavative cartridge and expect it to have great strength. They seem to mostly test on the 80s range, the lowest that I found was 80%, the highest was about 85%. THC percentage is not everything when it comes to strength. As I write this review I am hitting on 96% THC Eureka Vapor oil. It’s good, but much rather be hitting on that Double Dream because the effects are stronger even though it’s at 80% THC.

Comparing Cannavative to California carts, the only ones that I would put on par with Cannavative as far as strength out of ones I have tried are Aces Extracts, Select Elite and Airo Pro.

cannavative la chocolat clear test results
More THC on La Chocolat, but Double Dream seemed stronger.

Cannavative carts are substantially stronger than the popular Cookies and Raw Garden carts.  I have yet to try the NV version, but compared to the California version of Stiiizy, ten Stiiizy hits do not match up to one Cannavative hit.

If Cannavative gets in to California at some point, it will fly off the shelves. Double Dream was the strongest cart of the bunch, even though it had the lowest THC percentage.

Cannavative carts taste like a standard clean distillate

Cannavative cart
Double Dream getting towards the end.

Cannavative carts taste like a very clean distillate oil. There’s not a whole lot of added flavor here. And if you’re really looking for something that super flavorful with comparable strength, check out Airo Pro. Cannavative is really just a distillant taste, it tastes like distilled oil should and pretty standard. However, I like this taste and have nothing to complain about it.

Alaska Jack and Double Dream tasted very similar. La Chocolat had a bit of a chocolate and coffee taste, but still some of the distillate taste was there as well, which I do like.

Efficiency is about as good as it can be

Currently, the CCELL TH2 is one of the most efficient cartridges out there. The SPRK cartridge might be a little bit more efficient due to the hole placements and also the cartridges on the Jackpot cartridges maybe a little bit more efficient due to the hole placement. However, the CCELL hits very strong and you really are getting just about down to the last drop as much as you can get out of it.

cannavative efficiency
CCELLs are very efficient so no complaints here.

I’m glad Cannavative chose to go with glass CCELL cartridges rather than plastic carts or something like the G Pen Gio.

Cannavative carts seem to last long. The number of puffs you get out the can is definitely better than average. It’s not super runny and it seems to last considerably longer than the BHO oil used in the BaM Gio Pods.

Different packaging for Indica or Sativa, plus strain info

Cannavative uses yellow bags for all Sativa products and purple bags for all Indica products. The only thing I found confusing about this was they use the same style bags for their cartridges that they use for their other extracts. One day I walked in and thought there was a bunch of carts on the shelves, but they had extracts only.

cannavative packaging
For all Cannavative products they use yellow bags for Sativa, Purple bags for Indica.

All cards and boxes in the bags then follow that same color coordination. Another interesting bit they add is a strain information card. See below the one for the Indica cartridge I tried.

la chocolat strain information
This card comes in the Cannavative packaging.

I don’t have any of the physical issues they listed, but I can tell you they were right on the flavor. The La Chocolat definitely a coffee-like taste to it.

Totally worth it and the price recently was lowered

Recently at Tsaa Nesunkwa in Ely, the price of Cannavative cartridges has come down to $40 each. The carts are half grams and Cannavative currently only sells half-gram carts. That’s lower than the average cartridge in Nevada at $45.

Other stores may still have it at $45, and even at $45 is still an awesome value. Comparing it to California cartridges, many of which are at $30 and $35, it is more expensive, but Nevada is more expensive statewide.

Concluding our Cannavative cartridge review

It is no surprise that Cannavative cartridges are awesome. Their shatter we reviewed was best of best. They seem to focus more on quality production than promotion as I don’t see their name anywhere besides inside the actual shop. However, the stuff does sell out in stores.

I definitely recommend checking out Cannavative if you’re heading out to Las Vegas or anywhere in Nevada. You can find more information on Cannavative here and see more pics of their products on their Instagram.

Politics of Pot: Wisconsin Brothers Busted With Fake Vape Cart Empire

0
Wisconsin brothers suspected of running fake vape cart empire

Every Monday, we’ll be rounding up news stories about cannabis law and legal matters, mostly in the US. Join us for this exciting time in history, the gradual end of pot prohibition, and keep track of this rapidly evolving field.

This just in…

Busted: Two Wisconsin brothers called the “Breaking Bad” of fake vape carts

the arrested Huffhines brothers

Without doubt, the biggest story in cannabis law this week is the investigation in Wisconsin, in which two brothers, Tyler and Jacob Huffhines, are suspected of having run a black market vape cartridge operation – an operation big enough to be called “an empire.” After a search warrant raid on the Huffhines premises, authorities uncovered over 30K vape cartridges, which the Huffhines brothers were alleged to have been filling and distributing.

Video on the ABCNews site’s coverage of the story shows cartridge packs very similar to the ones we’ve talked about extensively on DabConnection. Speculation among law enforcement is on a possible connection between this operation and the rash of vaping-related deaths and hospitalizations in recent months. Total deaths from this epidemic now stand at six in six states.

On a related note, a “cannabis insider” in Las Vegas has interviewed with FOX News, reiterating that the problem lies in black market cartridges. He indicates that tests on black market cartridges have found mineral oil and coconut oil in vape cartridges, along with vitamin E acetate. The resulting lung injury from inhaling these oils is commonly called “Popcorn Lung,” so named because it first appeared connected to workers at popcorn processing facilities inhaling the artificial oil used to make butter flavor in popcorn.

Since we were among the first sites to start warning the public about the dangers of fake THC vape cartridges, we are committed to remain vigilant on this issue and stay on top of further developments as they unfold.

Federal bills to reschedule cannabis introduced

federal Controlled Substance Act schedule explained

We’ve probably all lost count by now of how many attempts there have been to reschedule cannabis under US federal law… so here’s another one! The new bill is called the “Marijuana 1-to-3 Act,” which would move move cannabis from Schedule I to Schedule III under the Controlled Substances Act. Introduced by Florida 17th-district congressman Greg Steube, feel free to tweet your support there.

This falls on the heels of another, separate bill titled the “Expanding Cannabis Research and Information Act.” It was introduced by two more Florida representatives, Donna Shalala (27th-district) and Matt Gaetz (1st-district), so feel free to tweet your support there, too.

The importance of rescheduling cannabis at the federal level is that states may be free to legalize all they want, but they have no support from the US government. As a result of this legal twilight zone, states face challenges to tax, regulate, and enforce cannabis policy. Cases where cannabis decisions have to be made across state and sometimes national border lines would normally lie in the country’s jurisdiction, but the policy isn’t there. Issues of interfacing between other businesses, such as insurance and banking, interfere with cannabis business and cannabis health care alike.

Making cannabis on a legal par with anabolic steroids opens the way for more states to comfortably settle their legalization issues, better coherent state-to-state and international laws, and for improved medical research. As it stands now, schedule 1 classifies cannabis as “no currently accepted medical use,” despite the overwhelming consensus of the medical community.

Banking with cannabis

banking and cannabis

Another piece of federal legislation worth keeping an eye on is an expected vote regarding cannabis and banking. Under current federal law, the cannabis industry and the banking industry have difficulty doing business with each other. New federal policy “would shield banks from federal penalties if they serve cannabis-related businesses in states where the drug has been legalized.”

So far, the American Bankers’ Association has predicted that legislation approving banking business with the cannabis industry will pass. Thanks in part, in parenthesis, to their lobbying efforts. Cannabis, either for medical or recreational purposes, is legal in 33 states so far, so this impacts the majority of the nation.

Banks are one example of businesses which have to toe federal laws as well as state laws, since any financial institution is part of a nation-wide banking system. As a result, cannabis companies have to scramble around dealing mostly in cash. There are work-arounds, but let’s face it, nothing beats a plain old bank account when you’re trying to run a business.

WeedStock Report: Vape Crisis Impacts Cannabis Business

0
A Franlin $100 as flower

Our “WeedStock Report” will post here every Friday, rounding up the stocks and business news in the cannabis industry. Investors can pick up a tip or two here, while the rest of us can bask in the reassurance that big business money means cannabis legalization will march on.

This just in…

Cronos stock plunge blamed on vape scare

Cronos Group logo

It’s Friday the 13th, which is quite a fitting day given the recent vaping scare from black market cartridges and the impact on the legitimate market. Canadian company Cronos has already taken a 50% drop from its peak since March, a loss blamed on struggling sales. But an additional 5% drop recently is blamed on the vaping crisis, at least at Investor Place.

With a death toll up to six and many more hospitalized, tainted vape cartridges have become an epidemic. The latest evidence at least confirms black market vape cartridges are the culprit, with indications that vitamin E acetate and other illicit vape juice cutting methods are the root cause. Yet by the time this story gets through to the typical TV news 6 o’clock broadcast, nothing is left but the word “vape,” and all vapes, legal or not, get blamed in the public’s reaction.

Meanwhile Canadian Aurora Cannabis Executive Chairman Michael Singer expressed worries over the impact of the vaping crisis in the US. Canadian cannabis industries are regulated by Health Canada, enjoying full government backing which US cannabis companies still lack at the federal level.

President Donald Trump has called for a ban on “flavored e-cigarettes,” which, predictably, is several doors down from the real problem and executing the wrong scapegoat at that. It’s like banning coffee because somebody went blind from drinking moonshine. In fact, punishing the legal market just makes more room for the black market to take over, so it’s even throwing gas on the fire.

Likewise, people are backing off buying vape products at the counter until more is known about the epidemic. We just hope they aren’t turning to black market cartridges off the street instead.

California legal trade crippled by black market

survey results black market

Some 3K illegal marijuana businesses turned up in a California audit. That’s three times the size of the legitimate, registered market. The United Cannabis Business Association counted 2.8K unlicensed dispensaries and delivery services in California, while the CA BCC reports a mere 873 licensed, legal businesses. In parallel, a financial audit predicts that unregulated cannabis businesses in California will have a volume of $8.7 billion, towering over the $3.1 billion frequently projected as California’s legit sale target for the year.

Cannabis industry spokespersons are leading the call for regulation to stop fake vapes and other illicit cannabis trade. One part of the problem is that while cannabis is being regulated on a state level, on the federal level it’s still illegal. This fuels illicit products, hinders research and limits the ability to develop consistent regulations. Aaron Smith, executive director for the National Cannabis Industry Association, calls the vaping-related deaths and illnesses “yet another terrible, and largely avoidable, consequence of failed prohibition policies.”

In the meantime, the black market issue warps all financial cannabis news. Every time we look at the cannabis market, we have to remember that we’re just seeing the tip of what’s really going on.

Aurora Cannabis gets more good buzz

Aurora Cannabis Canadian facility

We briefly mentioned Aurora Cannabis as a good stock to watch just last week. Aurora continues its good news streak by closing a loan deal worth CA$200 million (roughly USD$150 million). The cash inflow is happening in part because larger operations have developed their infrastructure and developed material market share.

Aurora is Canada’s largest medical cannabis company by revenue. They are planning significant entries into the US market for CBD products derived from hemp. Aurora Cannabis just slipped from their projected net sales target of CA$100 million, reporting CA$98.9 million in fiscal fourth-quarter earnings. That’s still a 94% gain over the previous quarter, nearly doubling their volume in just three months. Despite this, Aurora stocks dipped 8.3% this week.

Much of the Canadian cannabis strategy hinges on prospective developments in US legalization progress. For instance, Canopy, another Canadian firm, is reaching out to New York-based Acreage Holdings for an agreement to buy Acreage should the US government remove federal prohibition.

Nuvata Vape Pen Review: Hard Hitting And Delicious

Nuvata vape pens are recyclable dose pens that are filled with a THC distillate. The Nuvata vapes are famous for their unique body and quirky color scheme designed to help the new cannabis consumer. Their oils are extracted from pesticide-free cannabis cultivated throughout California. They are mindful of creating specific flavor and high profiles for each of their flavors.

Nuvata vape pens are widely available in Southern California.

Pros:

  • The color coordinated packaging really helps keep buying quick and easy
  • Varying, delicious flavors
  • Very cool design
  • The high is a force of nature

Cons:

  • Some of the pens have a less than robust flavor
  • Only available in California

Recommendations: Flatter bottom so I can store it upright.

Licensing Information: Se7enLeaf  BCC LIC# C11-0000123-LIC BCC LIC# C11-0000287-LIC CDPH LIC# CDPH-10002469 CDPH LIC# CDPH-10003326

Nuvata is the best experience I have had in a while

This vape pen is exceptional. I am currently testing out three different flavors and each flavor has a unique high. I have the Lime which feels like a true hybrid, Tropical is a sativa-leaning hybrid and finally, Strawberry flavor which is a full sativa.

These three flavors are only a fraction of Nuvata’s vape pens and I really enjoy them. I only made a video with one pen because they’re all similar and superb. Watch the video for a quick general review or continue reading for a more in-depth review.

These pens are superb in quality overall

Nuvata pen showcase
They look like Teletubbies

Everything Nuvata vape pens offers the highest quality. Their oil is the smoothest and tastiest I have had to date. The pen design compliments it all perfectly. The cherry on top would be their amazing flavors. This pen has secured a spot in my stash as an all-time favorite.

Nuvata vape pens use state of the art technology in their builds

These premium vape pens are more than just another dose pen. Each pen has anti-clogging technology to keep it efficient. The mouthpieces on the Nuvata vape pens have dual air-flow technology to keep the hits smooth. It is all topped off with precision heating with a ceramic coil to keep the heating even.

The build on the Nuvata is in a league of its own and mostly plastic

Nuvata fits all the innovative features on a vape pen that is about the length of a stick of gum. The body and mouthpiece have smooth rounded edges and is made almost entirely out of plastic. The body is soft with a matte color and subtle markings for grip. The plastic tank is tucked nicely within the body just underneath the mouthpiece. There is a thin horizontal light underneath the tank that lights up when you take a hit.

The Nuvata vape pen has an anti-clogging design that actually works

The pens I use the most tend to get a clog in the mouthpiece after a few sessions. I store it away and keep it upright. After a while of storing, my Nuvata vape pen regains its smooth hits. As long as I take easy hits the mouthpiece remains clear.

Sleek fun and discreet, Nuvata vapes have a design I can’t stop admiring

The colors are bold and bright on the Nuvata pens and the subtle design feels nice on the fingertips. The pen is lightweight and despite being so brightly colored, super discreet. The simplicity of the design doesn’t warrant unwanted attention to the public imbiber.

Nuvata takes special care of their distillates

They tailor the experience of each vape pen by infusing a 9:1 blend of THC and CBD with natural terpenes. Nuvata vape pens have unique experiences because they meticulously mix specific terpenes and cannabinoids to create an “entourage effect”.

These pens have fantastic oil quality

I have to reiterate that I am not a big fan of distillates, I can usually tolerate them. However everything about the oil in Nuvata vape pens is terrific. The Nuvata vape pen has the best oil. So far they are the smoothest and most enjoyable pen I have had the pleasure of vaping.

Each flavor has its own experience and they all hit real hard

nuvata vape carts
Nuvata’s packaging is slim and compliant.

Every Nuvata vape pen I tried gave me an amazing high. The high starts to creep up nicely after a couple of doses. Within 15 minutes the high peaks and lasts for a solid couple of hours. Each high is phenomenal in different ways. I really like the effects of the Tropical as well as the flavor. These vape pens very similar to Roots.

Fun and functional: Packaging is an important part of the Nuvata experience

nuvata vape disposable carts
Each flavor has its own distinct color

Accurate and color-coordinated packaging for each flavor isn’t new, but Nuvata has a fun look. Each vape pen has a distillate made to have specific effects and give the same high every time. This means each pen pairs well with different things. So I will give my experience with each flavor and compare it to the information on the box.

Nuvata Tropical
Tropical has a great high with 72% THC

Of the three Nuvata vape pens I tested, the tropical flavor pen is my favorite. I really enjoy this flavor for general use throughout the week. The high is more sativa-leaning. It made me super focused but didn’t give me tunnel vision. This flavor made the day go by super quick By making everything a lot more enjoyable.

Nuvata Lime
The Lime had 68% THC content and a great high

The lime flavor Nuvata vape pen was my go-to for winding down at the end of the day. It feels more like an indica-leaning high and makes me feel very relaxed and cheerful. This flavor is perfect for sitting back after a long day and unwinding however you like. Nuvata’s lime flavored vape pen made me less focused and more relaxed.

Nuvata Strawberry
Lowest THC at 67% but still a great high

Nuvata’s strawberry flavor pen is definitely the best for outdoor activities. Although this flavor was not the boldest, the high was strong. This vape pen has a high like a pure sativa. It’s perfect for daydreaming while on a hike or a long commute. This flavor is perfect for my weekend activities.

Nuvata vape pens have the most fantastic tasting oil ever

disposable vape carts

Each puff was a shot of flavor with no negative after tastes. The flavor of each oil is a delicious candy flavor. The Lime pen was like puffing on off-brand Sprite. Strawberry tasted almost exactly like pink candy from a PEZ dispenser. Tropical (my favorite flavor) tastes like a cocktail of skittles without the sour sugary aftertaste of the skittles. I vaped an Old Pal afterward and the Pal tasted very musty by comparison to the Nuvata vape pen.

Some vape pens are not as flavorful as others

All of the Nuvata pens were superb when it came to flavors. But for me, the strawberry flavor pen had a much milder flavor. I can taste the strawberry and it is delicious, but it didn’t come through as strongly as the others.

Efficiency on the Nuvata is standard for the all-in-one style of pen

As a recyclable dose pen these are fairly efficient. One of the pen’s tanks is just about empty and I can still take full doses with good-sized hits. The battery is still heating the oil well on all the pens even after a week of steady vaping.

Nuvata vape pens have 200 doses per pen but I was having too much fun to keep count

Whatever the average life of a 200 dose recyclable pen is, my Nuvata vape pen is lasting me well into a week of continuous smoking. To keep me at a good level, I will usually take about 9 doses throughout the day. The oil will last me for about 2 weeks before I finish it and that’s not bad at all.

The price per flavor is standard for pens, but it comes in cheaper than brands similar to Nuvata

Comparable brands, such as Dosist, come in at a standard 100$ per 200 dose pen. Nuvata offers their 200 dose pen for 50$. For a half-gram of premium quality distillate the Nuvata comes at a slightly higher than average price. Dom pens are also dosed with comparable flavor at a 30$ price tag. An Aces Extracts vape pen will run you $42.

Concluding our Nuvata vape pen review…

Nuvata vape pens are definitely a perfect experience for me. Even with the clogging mouthpieces. The pen comes at a standard price in California, but the oil is definitely the best that I have had. The Nuvata has delicious taste and strong high that can stand toe-to-toe with the biggest brands. As of finishing this article, this distillate has the best high and accompanying flavor I have experienced. You can use their website to find products and learn more about where to buy here

Dime Cartridge Review: Great Strength, Great Taste

dime cartridge review

The Dime Industries cartridge is filled with pure, high potency THC  distillate. The distillate boasts unmatched purity and smoothness. Their cartridges and hardware are widely available all over Southern California and Northern California. All of their products are distributed by Dime Industries.

Pros:

  • Tastes and smells normal
  • Very smooth pulls with huge smoke clouds
  • The high is very nice

Cons:

  • The packaging obstructs the cartridge and I couldn’t see that my cartridge was damaged before I bought it
  • Looks a little funny on most universal 510 thread batteries
  • It needs to be kept upright when you store it or it bubbles into the mouthpiece

Recommendations: An opening on the front of the packaging so consumers can see the cartridge. The cartridge I bought had a leak and visible damage on the outside and inside.

Licensing Information: Dime Industries  C11-0000470-LIC  CDPH-10002933

See below out video review on a Dime Industries cartridge. Continue reading to see out more in depth written review.

The Dime cartridge has an excellent quality overall

dime vape packaging
Dime Industries Cartridges come in carefully designed packaging.

Dime Industries manufactures an excellent cartridge. The oil tank is a clear and thick solid glass. Both the mouthpiece and base of the cartridge are metal and painted to fit the aesthetic of the Dime Industries patented zero-waste atomizer.

I didn’t have a chance toactually purchase and get a feel for the Dime atomizer. For this Dime cartridge review I tested the 1 gram, Blueberry Lemon Haze cartridge, which is a Sativa. I don’t believe they say the cartridge has actual blueberry strain, so maybe it’s just lemon haze with blueberry terpenes?

The design of the Dime cartridge is one of the best I have seen on the market

dime co cart, dime industries, cartridge, vape oil, dime industries

The cartridge feels very high quality and it is very pretty to look at. It’s pretty heavy because of the metal and glass but i think that’s a good thing. There are air-holes on either side of the base of the cartridge. These air-holes provide air flow and allow for huge clouds and smooth hits. Not to mention the satisfying hiss they make as I vape. Even with slight damage and a minor leak my cartridge holds up with superb quality overall.

The only problem is storing the cartridge

The only problem I have with my Dime cartridge is it seems to be leaking due to some damage to the body. However I realize now that because of the cartridge’s design, it needs to be stored up-right. If i don’t store it upright, the oil seeps into the chamber and then into the mouthpiece. This isn’t too big of a deal, but on my first hit the hot concentrate bubbled through the mouthpiece and burned my tongue.

The oil in the Dime cartridge is a superb distillate

The oils within the Dime Industries cartridges are distillates. I have never been a fan of distillates because most of them are harsh on my throat. However this particular cartridge has one of the smoothest smokes I ever had. I didn’t go hoarse from smoking it repeatedly and itdoesn’t hit hot.

Sometimes I get a bitter aftertaste or mild headache from smoking some distillates, which was the case with the Timeless Vapes cartridge I had tested previously. The Dime cartridge isn’t giving me headaches, however, and it doesn’t  get my battery all hot.

Dime Industries vape cartridges have excellent THC content and the high is very strong on the sativa

dime industries, blueberry lemon haze, vape cart, cannabis design

The distillate within my Dime cartridge was tested at a very nice 85.68% THC. It only took two solid hits before I start feeling the effects. The high is very uplifting, like a Sativa should be, and it lasts for a good 3 hours. At first, the high seems really light, but then it starts to snowball and it gets very strong.

The cartridge has one of the cleanest tasting distillates I have experienced

clear oil, vape oil, dime industries, designer weed
The vape oil is a clear, golden shade.

I’ve said before that distillates have given me mixed experiences. Sometimes giving me a headache or being a bit too harsh for my throat. However the Dime cartridge is indiscernible from super clean e-juice. The taste is smooth and leaves absolutely no bitter tasting residue on my tongue. I haven’t caught any musty aftertaste. It is very tasty. I would prefer this distillate over Heavy Hitters, which have milder flavors but comparable smoothness.

Dime Industries cartridges are as efficient as possible

Even with air-holes for flow and me making huge clouds, my full gram Dime cartridge is still going strong. My universal battery actually ran out before I could finish my cartridge. I still haven’t been able to finish and I believe it will last well into three weeks. The way Dime Industries manufactures their cartridges looks like I am going to vape almost every drop.

Potency definitely helped the efficiency of my Dime cartridge

At 86% THC my Dime cartridge packed a heavy punch.  Not having to constantly be smoking makes me use less oil and since its strong I only need one good pull.

Lower heat settings extend oil life and gave a better experience

I set my universal pen at the lowest heat and I didn’t feel like testing it on a higher setting On the lowest setting my universal battery still hit really well. Lower heat increases the efficiency of my cartridge and in my opinion is the best way to enjoy the full experience Dime cartridges have to offer.

I will most definitely buy another one of their cartridges

vape cart, dime industries, 510 battery
Dime Industries cartridge on a universal 510 threaded battery.

At $62.00 for a full gram including taxes, my Dime cartridge came at a typical price. Dime Industries has their own patented atomizer and is convenient for first timers to get great hardware to match the quality of the oil. The carts themselves are great for experienced smokers as well because they taste great and hit hard without being harsh.

Concluding my review on Dime Industries cartridges…

Overall, I would say that Dime provides an excellent experience. The distillate is top notch and is very smooth and flavorful. The high is clean and the oil doesn’t  leave any residue on my tongue. I do recommend using their atomizers as the cartridge does look funny on most universal batteries. It surpasses my expectations with great overall quality. I’ll buy it when I need something to last me til next payday.

How To Mix, Fill, and Store Your Own Vape Carts

5
mix fill and store vape oil

We’re back with another tutorial courtesy of John Brown with channel HowToWeed. We’ve covered his channel before, recently with “How To Create Your Own Terpene Profile.” This time, we’ll show you how to mix up distillate, fill vape cartridges with it, and store them. Visit our whole HowTo section for your degree in THC consumption, because we’ve developed a whole plant-to-vape chain of tutorials by now.

With the recent epidemics of untrustworthy cartridges, it’s at least comforting to know that we have this option for vaping. When you brew your own, you have complete control over the ingredients, starting from the plant itself. As long as you can get some quality flower, you’re good for the rest of the production chain.

Below is HowToWeed’s full video. Keep reading on for written instructions.

Filling Vape Carts

Things we assume you have on hand:

  • Vials of distillate
  • Terpenes
  • Empty carts
  • Syringes and needles
  • A hotplate
  • A torch (nice to have, not required)
  • Empty vials for mixing

Anything you set on the hotplate should be able to withstand the temperature. Distillate tends to have a gooey consistency like honey which gets runny when it heats up. See our guide “How To Make Your Own Oil Pen” for more on distillate and terpenes.

Fill the vials with distillate

adding distillate to a vial

You will use empty vials for heating the distillate and adding terpenes to the mix, since pure distillate will be odorless and tasteless. Make a note of how much distillate you’re using, because that comes up during the terpene step.

Heat distillate and add terpenes

adding terpenes to distillate

Just like working with shatter or wax, you want to heat it up a little bit to get that juice flowing. The hotplate should be set near 100° F (37° C). Heat the distillate until it’s liquefying. Either shake it or use the heat gun (if you have one) to get it runny enough to mix.

If you’re making more than one cartridge at a time, you want to use separate transfer containers for each terpene. This is because cross-contamination is an issue with measures of liquid this small. Syringes are the best bet, but droppers, pipettes, or other precise measuring tools work here too.

The consensus on terpene ratios is 10%, namely 1 gram of distillate to 0.1 1ML of terp to make a 10% ratio. Remember that if you’re measuring by volume (within the syringe), volume changes with temperature. The standard practice is to keep terpenes in the fridge. At the very least, keep them away from excess heat and light.

And now, our terpene sidebar:

Can you mix terpenes?

As you see in this video, that’s the ideal thing to do! Terpenes are already mixed quite thoroughly in the natural plants they occur in, so there’s no reason not to. Just follow formulas and percentages as given. Terpenes in cannabis are like frosting on cake: a little of it goes a long way. But yes, mix and blend to your heart’s content.

How much terpenes do you add to distillate?

The formula is given elsewhere already, but just for the less technical: a drop or two per gram of distillate.

Do terpenes get you high?

Nope! Getting high from THC oil is a matter of THC itself. However, terpenes do contribute to the much-discussed entourage effect, which is like the “full body” feeling of cannabis consumption. Some theories say terpenes contribute to faster absorption of THC. Terpenes are really mostly essential oils, found in many other plants not even related to cannabis.

Shake and fill

filling vapoe cart with distillate and terpenes

You’ll want the mixture to be thin enough that a good shake mixes it. You can apply a heat gun straight to the bottom of the vial to just get it thinned out for that second, which is all it takes.

applying heat gun to vial

Once you have your mixture, use the syringe to fill the cartridge. It will still have a gooey texture, but it’s going to settle once it cools off in the carts. Cap the carts off, secure them closed, and then stand them upside down while they cool.

When they’re vape-ready, store them right-side up. If you look up to HowToWeed (we all do here), you can get a fancy storage cylinder from Cartsdom with room for six carts and play “cart roulette,” as he shows in his video. This sounds like a fun game.

If you follow that link from his YouTube to Cartsdom, you get 20% off for dropping his name, he gets an affiliate commission to support his channel, and then we get to keep seeing more informative videos like this one. Also, if you get a new storage canister for your cartridges, you can then give the cookie tin back to grandma so she has someplace to stash her knitting again. Or her own carts.

Amerijuana Cartridge Review: Good Quality But Is It A Street Brand?

amerijuana cartridge review

Amerijuana cartridges turned out to be a decent. The oil is nice and thick, it has a smooth taste to it and it gives a really nice high. But looking more into these cartridges, I couldn’t find anything on the company itself. Unsure about the legitimacy of this company, here we look more into Amerijuana carts and our view on them.

Pros:

  • Smooth taste
  • Nice oil quality
  • Gives a great high

Cons:

  • Lack of information on them
  • Possibly not a real company

Recommendations: Provide more authentic information on the company as well as lab results. Although these cartridge give a nice high and taste good, there is no saying how legit the company actually is.

Amerijuana cartridges are actually decent, but are they black market carts?

amerijuana carts packaging
With these cartridges being good, that doesn’t mean that it will always be safe to consume.

In all honesty, I actually did like this cartridge. But the main thing with this company is that they might not even be an authentic brand. After doing research on them, I couldn’t find anything on the company nor their oil. It’s hard to trust the oil without having any lab tests done to them. Being an unregulated brand, people put their own oil and sell in bulk on the streets.

Another thing is that the packaging claims to have a website,  but the website is not even registered. I also couldn’t even find any social media accounts under the brand. Although we could not find their packaging sold online, it’s possible these carts could have different oil in different places from different people.

amerijuana cartridge packaging
Although the packaging has a website of the company, the website isn’t registered.

The good thing is that I wasn’t able to find the packaging for sale online. This may be because it’s a small company and manufacturers haven’t replicated the packaging yet, or certain vendors distribute it in certain states. Either way, not a low of these unknown cartridges seem to in the market yet. Regardless of how good it is, it is still unsure what’s actually in the oil or if it’s safe to consume.

Amerijuana carts are surprisingly good quality

After all the research, I wasn’t to expect a lot from this cartridge. But after taking a few hits, I did get a nice and mellow high from it. The oil does feel somewhat strong and the taste is alright. Not harsh at all nor does it leave a bad taste one bit. But unfortunately there still is no saying how clean these carts are. Just because you have a great tasting cart that gets you really high, doesn’t mean that it will always be safe to consume.

Oil quality is nice and fairly potent

amerijuana cartridge oil quality
Being a suspicious cartridge, the oil quality is surprisingly great and fairly strong.

The oil to this cartridge turned out to be really good. It is actually thick and dense and is was consistent all throughout the whole cartridge. Unlike Dabwoods cartridge, it doesn’t have a a dark color to the oil nor too light, like the Chronic Carts. In comparison to most off-branded cartridges, Amerijuana cartridges are a little more potent than most out there.

Compared to most street carts, this is one of the strongest

Because of how many fake cartridges there are in the black market, it can be hard to trust on reliable oil and authentic cartridges. With these kind of brands, you won’t always get the same oil quality when you pick them up. Sometimes, you can randomly get either a really great cart or a light and weak one. We’ve had this experience a lot with carts like Dank Vapes or Cereal Carts.

With that being said, this particular cartridge is fairly strong and gives a lasting high. It unfortunately doesn’t say any THC percentage on the package nor does it have any lab results. But either way, it’s definitely stronger and more potent than most street brands that are out there.

Amerijuana Cartridges tasted more like oil than terpenes

The flavor I picked up is Sundae Driver and I can say these carts taste a lot more like oil than terpenes. It does give somewhat of a sweet taste, but it does give more of a wax flavor. This taste is actually satisfying, very smooth and not harsh one bit. But because it’s more of an oil taste, it does leave a dense smell to it.

Unsure if it’s an authentic or fake CCELL

Right away, you can tell that Amerijuana carts use CCELL cartridge. It’s a full gram, not sealed and a very efficient cart. But taking a close look on the bottom of the cartridge, I only saw two different imprints on them. It only has the CA serial number and says 3 win. From our experience, authentic CCELL’s have 3 different stamps, the serial number, the K stamp and the CCELL logo. Although we are still unsure, we messaged the company just to be sure. As they respond, we will update this post.

ccell carts
Although we are still unsure, authentic CCELL’s usually have 3 stamps from our experience.

Overall, Amerijuana Cartridges are good but not reliable

To sum up, yes we did enjoy Amerijuana carts but they aren’t that trustworthy. With many safer options, you can’t always rely on any cartridge coming from the black market. They may be quality and taste good, but not all carts will be consistent or even safe to smoke. We recommend to always pick your cartridge from a licensed dispensary or at least to have some sort of lab results for the safe of your health.

Leune Vape Review: Tasty, but Lacks Strength

leune vape review

The Leune vape is a disposable all-in-one THC oil pen. The pen is filled with high quality oil that’s extracted from premium cannabis plants grown in California. Leune vape pens are known for having great flavor and a nice aesthetic. Their products are distributed by FLORx and are widely available in Southern and Northern California.

Pros:

  • The oil tastes like fruit tea
  • It’s compact and very discreet
  • The design is super cute
  • Very easy to use

Cons:

  • The vape tends to heat up very quickly
  • No port to recharge the battery in case it dies before you can finish the oil
  • Small tank with only 250mg of oil
  • Battery did indeed die before it was finished.

Licensing Information:

Recommendations: Wait about 10 seconds between puffs to stop the pen from overheating. A port to recharge the pen would prevent the battery dying before I can empty the tank.

Leune vapes are a decent product overall

leune disposable
Leune Disposable Vape Cart in Desert Gold

The hardware for the vape pen is pretty standard. There aren’t too many differences between the Leune and comparable disposable pens. The pen has a high quality oil that tastes unique and delicious. The size of the vaporizer is definitely a novelty. For this Leune review, I tested the Desert Gold all-in-one vaporizer pen which is a sativa-leaning hybrid.

The design and build quality of the Leune vapes are pretty standard

leune, size comparison, eaze, disposable vape cart, desert gold
The Leune is a standard looking disposable vape.

The body of the vaporizers are mostly plastic. The mouthpiece is just a metal plate with a hole at the top end of the pen. You can’t see the tank in the Leune because it’s wrapped in a sticker that covers the whole pen. The bottom of the pen has some hidden air-holes to help with air flow. At the bottom end of the pen there is a black see-through cap. When you vape, a little LED lights up from inside the black cap. I assume that it also indicates battery life.

Overheating is an intrinsic flaw caused by the size and design of the Leune all-in-one vape pen

Leune vapes are travel-size, and that comes in handy. However it also causes them to get really hot after just two moderate pulls. The sticker that covers the whole body acts as a sort of cover that doesn’t help heat displacement. Also, the majority of the components are plastic and overheating makes the vape taste like plastic at times.

The indicator on the Leune is nothing special but it serves its purpose well enough

When I take a hit the indicator light at the bottom end of my vaporizer lights up. It is bright enough to be seen in moderate daylight and can be seen while vaping. When the pen overheats, the indicator flashes and I am unable to take another hit until after the pen has cooled. If the indicator doesn’t turn on it means that the pen has died.

Leune’s battery died before the oil was finished

This was a major flaw. It happens every once in a while, but did not expect the battery to die before just 250mg of oil was up. Have seen it happen on half gram carts, but this was a big disappointment and brings down the build quality score substantially.

Oil quality is great, very smooth and the best part of the Leune vape pen

leune vape test results

I couldn’t find much information about whether or not the oil was a distillate but it was not a harsh smoke. The only time I have trouble is when the pen overheats, which causes the oil to vape hot. The oil in the Leune vaporizer is one of the few that I was able to hit without any coughing in the slightest. Except for when the pen got hot. Aside from that, the oil doesn’t cause any irritation to my throat or leave any lingering tastes.

The flavor of the oil is outstanding on the Leune vaporizer

The Leune oil has unique and delicious flavor. The pen I have has a very fruity and light taste that doesn’t really linger on the tongue or leave behind any residue. The flavor on the Leune is perfect. It isn’t too bold and it doesn’t have a bitter aftertaste. If you are looking for something more flavorful I recommend Friendly Farms cartridges.

Great flavor comes at a cost to potency giving me a light high

My Leune vaporizer tested at 75% THC potency. The vaporizer doesn’t pack the heaviest punch. In fact, I feel a decline in the high just half an hour after vaping. The pen is not ideal for someone seeking an intense experience.

It isn’t the most potent oil, but CBD makes the high a memorable one

Compared to some cartridges 75% seems on the below average side, but this oil has CBD. Most THC oil is just that, with the CBD hardly present. CBD in the oil made the light, hour-long high very pleasant. The Leune works best as a supplement to extend heavier highs and tastes similar to Caliva.

The Leune vape pen had an efficiency problem in that the battery died before the oil was gone

The efficiency is hard to gauge due to the design of the vaporizer. The battery lasted long enough to finish the tank, but I can’t see the tank without tearing the vaporizer apart.

I don’t believe the Leune vape is worth the price

leune vape cart, leune, compliance packaging

The pen is priced at a moderate $30 in some retailers. However, the pen is disposable, mostly plastic, and only has enough oil to last maybe one day. The high is enjoyable, but it is not strong at all and I could have finished the oil within the first day.

Concluding this review of the Leune vape…

Overall, the disposable vaporizer was fun to experience. However, novelty is all it really has to offer besides being smooth. The design and flavor all play into a theme, but the potency and quantity of the oil suffer the price. I can buy similar products for double the price and get 4 times the oil and an equal taste experience.

Black Market Cartridges: Not Fake, But Not Legit

What are black market cartridges

One of the most popular ways to consume cannabis is by vaporizing in liquid form. Vaping is something that those who are new to the cannabis scene go for. It it isn’t surprising that a lot of cartridges are being sold. But we should be cautious when buying cartridges because not all are sold in the quality that we want them to be. For black market cartridges, this is most likely the case. Here, we can categorize the black market as unlicensed dispensaries. Since the products sold here aren’t controlled, the quality of the products sold here aren’t verified.

A cannabis concentrate cart that was bought from a reputable dispensary wouldn’t be a problem. They’re most likely of premium quality. Most dispensaries have people who you can approach to help you choose the product you are looking for and, are more willing to entertain questions about the origin of an oil cartridge. Asking questions is one of the few things you can do to ensure the quality of the product. You can ask things like who is the manufacturer and what their process is. Some people who do not have access to a local dispensary would buy these online or in unlicensed stores. The downside this is purchasing would put you at risk for getting a low-quality product. The popularity of cartridges has encouraged untrustworthy dab cartridges manufacturers.

How to assess the quality of your carts

Check the quality of the oil

Luckily, there are a number of signs you can look at to tell if your black market cartidges are low quality. The first one is by looking at the appearance of the oil. Cheaply produced cannabis oil carts are darker than the good quality light amber color or a yellowish-orange color. Also check if it seems runny or the air bubble shoots from one side to the other when you turn the cart over. It could be cut with too much base liquid which reduces potency. A light golden-yellow to a nearly clear gold in color is a sign of the highest quality vape liquid. The concentrate should also be thick like olive oil or perhaps slightly more. Basically, the darker the color of the oil, the lower the quality.

vape-oil-carts-gold
High quality vape oil should be golden colored

Cartridge build

rove-cookies-hybrid
Cartridge built is important in ensuring the quality of the cart

Sometimes the hardware can also be a sign for the quality of the cartridge as well. Check if the cart has a logo on it, and try to look it up as well. Reputable cartridge brands also have their websites. One thing you can do is to learn more about the brand through their website.

Also, go and look at the venting on the cartridge. Some cartridges have holes that provide an air path, and some have adjustable nozzles. You can also look at the number of holes inside the cartridge. More vent holes allows more vape liquid into the atomizer. Maybe the most dangerous part of buying black market vape carts are poorly manufactured cartridges. They can be made with materials that off-gas harmful toxins of buying black market vape carts.

Watch out for counterfeit cartridges

Buying black market cartridges could also increase the chances of you buying counterfeit cartridges. This is another thing that sadly, has been circulating the market. There are some who don’t realize that what they are buying is a fake, which is why it is always better to buy from a reputable dispensary.

We have posts on other fake cartridges as well. See our fake cartridge posts on Dank Vapes, Dr. Zodiak’s Moonrocks, Exotic CartsEureka VaporStiiizySpace Vape and King Pen.

The Deep Dark Mystery Of Dank Vapes

17
fake dank vapes carts

What is real? What is illusion? Will we ever know? The saga of the black market cartridge brand Dank Vapes has grown to epic proportions. View our complete Dank Vapes FAQ here.

We definitely know this much:

There are many fake Dank vape carts out there

The empty packaging for sale all over the web tells us this much.

Dark packaging at Alibaba

Dank packaging at Amazon

Dank packaging at DHGate

Dank packaging at eBay

Dank vapes might all be fake

We have the recent post over at Inverse, “Dank Vapes Is the ‘Biggest Conspiracy’ in Pot That Can Put You in a Coma,” with crack reporting by the excellent Emma Betuel. Goaded by a recent spike in vape-related lung injuries which all seemed to revolve around Dank “brand” vape cartridges, she put on her Nancy Drew hat and resolved to dig to the bottom of this. Even if she had to dig her way to China.

Which she pretty much did. China is exactly where a lot of black market counterfeits and fake brands come from. We’d be amused if we didn’t have stories like this from hospital bedside:

irate tweet from a hospital lung damage

Emma Betuel investigated to try to find the actual, positive owner of the Dank vape cartridge brand. She found only dead ends. Much like our previous attempt to pin down the “Runtz” “brand,” every trail leads to another sketchy account, another counterfeit box, and nobody with an official claim to brand ownership. Just as we pointed out with Runtz, she tracked down various Twitter and Instgram channels all claiming to be the “real” Dank, only to be stonewalled when she demanded proof.

Quoting the Inverse article:

“A search of California’s Bureau of Cannabis Control licenses turned up no licenses for Dank Vapes. A spokesperson confirmed to Inverse that there were no listings for Dank Vapes.”

The closest Betuel got to an owner of anything was a US Patent and Trademark holder for the name “Dank Vapes” itself to be printed on T shirts.

We all might have been fooled

Earlier on in our site’s history, we’ve covered Dank vapes before. This was before fake cartridges became such big news. At the time we were trying to ascertain what was real and what was fake. But later developments and comparison with other, similar “shadow economy” brands may lead us to believe that there was NEVER a “real” Dank company at all!

How could we know for sure? Just to show how easy it is to get tricked, here’s /u/t_bone300 over at the /r/fakecartridges forum of Reddit.com.

Reddit post on High Times selling Dank

It’s a story about attending the Cannabis Cup and discovering Dank carts for sale at a show hosted by High Times magazine! OK, we’re not going to point to High Times as the definitive name you can trust above all others. We’re just saying, if High Times can’t root this stuff out, what chance do the rest of us have?

UPDATE 8/30/19 Apparently new Dank boxes are coming out in funky colors. Probably a further sign of dueling counterfeiters.

Dank showing up in new color packaging

Is it possible for a black market brand to literally materialize out of nowhere?

Somebody, somewhere on Earth, had to have been the very first person to print a Dank vape package. And a Springfield Farms package, and an Off White package, and a Bart Carts package. The stupid things didn’t just grow on trees. But who?

The Present Author will now present the following speculation:

Say you’re a knock-off package manufacturer in China. You print fake Magic: the Gathering cards, labels for counterfeit medicines, stickers for counterfeit iPhones, you name it. You hear news about the USA legalizing recreational cannabis in some states. And you also hear vape oil is a big deal. To the factory we go!

You only speak Chinese and don’t know English. But that doesn’t stop you from checking out English SEO keyword discovery engines. Here’s one example, although the better ones require a subscription. Copy and paste in any number of cannabis-related English keywords into an SEO engine and it will spit out a column of related terms.

“Dank” is a long-standing slang term for quality weed, as we see in the Wikipedia list of same. So if enough people searched the web for “dank weed,” either trying to find the usual black market or the new legalized market, that term is linked. But you only speak Chinese, you don’t know that.

“Dank” must be a brand name, you assume, so have your freelance graphic designer (who may not even know they’re working for a scam shop) design anything that says “Dank” and “vape” on it and looks like a brand logo.

You get lucky and somebody who buys your cartridge packaging fills them with quality oil once. The market for your brand takes off. Congratulations, you’re launched a shadow economy brand!

The same goes for a lot of other “brand” names. For instance, we tracked down that Runtz name to a strain of weed that happened one time. Failing direct keywords related to cannabis, you find out that vapes are big with the kids. Well, no problem, you just go across the hall to the guy pumping out fake Nintendo game cartridge stickers, borrow a sample, and send it to the graphics guy. Kids like Mario, they’ll buy a Mario vape. That’s how you get Mario Carts.

fake cart brands are everywhere, man!

The above was speculation

But as we’ve linked to extensively, things just like this happen all the time. It might have happened with Dank. Who knows at this point?

The Inverse article calls black market cartridges a conspiracy. But we have something even more fascinating here: a headless monster, a conspiracy where nobody is in charge.

The late, great Robert Anton Wilson was a curator of conspiracies. In his book, Everything Is Under Control: Conspiracies, Cults, and Cover-ups, he has an entry for “ladder conspiracies,” which spontaneously form out of a bunch of people getting the same idea at the same time. Pranks of every kind and Internet memes are a one-off example.

This shouldn’t be so shocking. Black markets for drugs have existed for decades, which is how we’ve gotten sheets of LSD blotter, marked ecstasy pills, and even “strains” of crystal meth. Those “brands” formed out of ladder conspiracies too. We just have a weird twilight zone now where cannabis is legalized here but outlawed there, so now black market brands have to mimic consumer packaging. The part that catches us off-guard is how good they are at it.

Care to weigh in on Dank vapes?

We’d love to hear from you in the comments below or in our forum!

Caliva Cartridge Review: Great Taste, Good Strength

The Caliva cartridge review
The Caliva cartridge turned out to be a good cartridge. It is not the absolute highest on strength but it is decently strong. Taste is really top notch, this is one of the better tasting THC cartridges I have ever tried. Currently, Caliva is only available in California.
Pros:
  • Great oil quality
  • Slow vaping oil
  • Excellent taste
  • Great hardware
Cons:
  • Not the absolute strongest

Licensing Information:

Recommendations: We would like to see a higher THC percentage version of the Caliva cart come out. It may already have come out, and if it has we will be trying it soon.

See below our video review on the Caliva cartridges. Continue reading to see our more in-depth written review.

Caliva cartridges deliver a good experience overall

Caliva cartridge packaging
The Caliva cartridge Kiss The Sky Packaging
The Caliva cartridge turned out to be one of the better ones out of a recent batch of California cartridges that we got. There really is not much to complain about here but I could see them making  this just a tad bit stronger. The strain we used for this review was Kiss the Sky. It was the strongest one we could find as far as THC percentage at Pure Life in Placerville, CA.
A tad bit stronger vape would put them about par with the other companies like Aces Extracts, Airo Pro and Select Elite. They really are there with oil quality it’s just notching that strength up a tiny bit. Still though, they’re probably in the top 30% of carts when it comes to comparing strength.

Design and Build quality is a bit unique, this is the first metal top CCELL that I’ve seen

Caliva Cartridge oil
Unique CCELL hardware with a metal top and glass body
Caliva cartridges use an authentic CCELL cartridge which of course is a great choice. CCELL is consistently great on hardware and the failure rate is extremely low. On Caliva’s version of the CCELL cartridge they have something pretty unique.
Caliva cartridge mouthpiece
Actual hole of the mouthpiece giving good airflow
They’re using a metal top with a glass body cartridge. It actually looks shape-wise the same as SRENE cartridge. But it is better in that it is glass while the SRENE is plastic. I also like how this larger mouth piece seems to get better airflow than the other CCELL mouthpieces. It’s also like what they’ve done with the SRENE. Because even though this is a metal mouth piece the shape is exactly the same as the SRENE’s mouthpiece.

Oil quality is excellent, consistent until the end

The oil on the Caliva cartridge is light green. It looked like some of the Kabunky cartridges I have seen before. The oil stayed the same consistency throughout the duration of the entire cartridge, which is a very good sign. I cannot say the same for Brass Knuckles. You can tell whatever process they’re using here, it’s a good one. Caliva seems to care about the oil quality and it really shows.
I would put the oil quality here above Select Elite and about on par with Aces Extracts.

Caliva cartridges are pretty strong but not mega strong

Caliva Cartridge THC
Caliva’s 78.13% THC is not bad, it’s decent but still has room for improvement
THC percentage on the Caliva cartridge came out to just over 78%. THC percentage is not everything as we have seen before with Airo Pro, their Mountain Mist testing in the 70’s and still being stronger than some cartridges in the high 80’s.
However, we do think that there’s got to be something here to push it a little bit higher on strength to get to that top notch strength. It’s still definitely way up there on strength compared to a lot of cartridges but with more strength Caliva would be one of the best cartridges in California.

Taste was awesome, some of the best

The Caliva cartridge does not taste like there’s any artificial flavor being added, but we are not sure. Either way the taste was awesome. It’s really a true distillate-like taste but in a good way. None of that old CO2 like taste that we really try to avoid. Cant go wrong here on taste and two big thumbs up on taste for Caliva. Also, using good hardware definitely helps as well. If they were using a crappy quality cartridge that would probably affect this.

Efficiency is top notch on Caliva cartridges

Caliva Cartridge review
Unique metal top CCELL used and good quality oil as seen on the photo
Since Caliva uses CCELL theres really nothing to worry about on efficiency. The only cartridge we have found that might be more efficient than the CCELL was the type used on the Jackpot cartridge. However, it is only more efficient in fact that it uses the last couple of drops of oil probably a little bit better. The problem with those type of cartridges is they don’t actually give you a strong of a hit. So when consider that in to efficiency, is it really overall more efficient? Probably not.

Number of puffs is awesome, oil vapes really slow

One thing we really like about the Caliva cartridge is the oil vapes really slow. It’s a very slow moving oil so make sure you leave it sitting up over night, so you’re not waiting it forever to get back to hitting it to the proper holes. This also add to the value which we’ll discuss more below. But basically, the fact that you can hit on this oil for a longer time than a lot of other cartridges gives it more puffs and makes it a better deal.

Value is good, would get again

Caliva cartridge packaging
Caliva cartridge fresh out of the box
Value is good on the Caliva cartridge coming in at $35. it was the same price as most of the other cartridges I picked. It was a little bit more cheaper than the Aces Extracts but that maybe because the Aces Extracts was a disposable. It’s a little more expensive than the Cookies cartridge because those were on sale at $30.
I would take Caliva over Cookies any day however, when compared to Aces Extracts i would take Aces Extracts over Caliva. Compared to Select Elite, Caliva tastes better, but Select is clearly stronger. A few tweaks and Caliva could be on par with both.

Concluding our Caliva cartridge review

The Caliva cartridge turned out to be a pretty good cartridge. There could be a few tweaks on strength to get this to the top of the top. But even as is, its better than most cartridges that are out there. I would definitely put this in the top 30% of cartridges that are out there.
So if you had 10 random cartridges here I would say the Caliva’s better than 6 or 7 of them. Caliva is a brand I would definitely pick up again and I hope to see a variant that is a little bit stronger, maybe with a higher THC percentage.
You can find more info on the Caliva brand here. You could find Caliva near you on Weedmaps.
