Javelina Cartridge Review: Great Oil, Hits Hard

Javelina Cartridge Review
The Javelina cartridge is great when paired with the right battery.

The Javelina cartridge has great quality oil inside it. You can tell by its taste and by putting it on the right battery that it’s a good cartridge and they’re trying to make a quality product. The problem with the Javelina cartridge is on some batteries, it just doesn’t hit well due to the unique hardware. However, when you use the official Javelina battery, it hits exceptionally hard.

However, if you have a battery that will put it in the right settings, Javelina cartridge will give strong effects and it is a good quality cartridge. The strain we used for this review is Tangie Durban, a cross of two sativas, Tangie and Durban Poison.

Pros:

  • Quality oil
  • Strong effects on the right battery (4.2 volts is optimal setting)
  • Very efficient

Cons:

  • Some batteries don’t hit as well on this cart

Recommendations: Glass cartridge body would be nice.

UPDATE 5/13/2020: We re-tried the Javelina cartridge with the Javelina specific battery and and found it to hit waaaay better.

The Javelina cartridge hits awesome with the Javelina battery

Javelina cartridge packaging
Javelina has this standard safety box design on its packaging.

The review on this cartridge is similar to the result we have on the APEX RemPen cartridge. Both carts are from CO. It seems more common in CO for companies to divert from your standard CCELL and ALD hardware.  CCELL is used in AiroPro, Select Elite, Cannavative, Cookies, and Roots plus many more. ALD makes Stiiizy and Plug Play vape hardware.

In CO, like what we have found on the APEX RemPen cartridge, they chose to use some other non-standard type of hardware that looks like its better but really isn’t.

We later tried the Javelina cartridge again with the official Javelina battery, and it hits awesome. Harder hits than any of the other batteries we tried, plus this battery rips in general on other brand carts as well.

Build quality and design are good: Hits strong on the official battery.

The Javelina cartridge has a good design when it comes to efficiency. The rest of it is not so great. It’s too thick to fit on some batteries, and on top of that, it doesn’t really work properly unless you have the right battery. The proper range for most cartridges is 3.7 to 4 volts and many work fine on a pull draw.

However, the Javelina cartridge seems to perform best at 4.2 volts. We probably could go a little bit higher but we don’t want to push it and possibly burn it out. Plus at 4.2 volts it gives a hit that is close to what you will get from a CCELL cartridge.

It even performs better on their own stick battery. I am assuming the higher range of that battery is around 4.2 volts.

The Javelina cartridge hardware hits hard at the right settings and with the right battery.

The hardware on this cartridge just doesn’t work out that well. The oil quality on this is awesome as we discuss below but changing this hardware could make the Javelina one of the best THC vape carts available.

It’s overall a good cart because the oil is so good, but CCELL or another hardware setup would hit harder even when you got the right settings for the Javelina cart. Although not the most efficient, this oil on a Dart or Uno pod would be excellent.

Oil quality from Javelina is top-notch

Javelina Cart
Oil stayed the same color after hitting it for a while.

Javelina claims that it is a refined distillate and it definitely tastes like it is. Throughout the duration of the cartridge, the oil quality stayed consistent and color changes were very slight, unlike what happened with Brass Knuckles where there was more prominent color changing.

Only when it got to the very very bottom and we were really vaping it hard to the last drops, it will look like the oil quality might have changed.

Overall, there’s nothing to complain about the oil quality for Javelina, in fact only things to praise. The oil quality overall is excellent and it lives up to the quality that we’ve come to expect from CO cartridges.

Not strong on some batteries, but change the battery and it’s great

The Javelina cartridge on a YoCan UNI Pro battery
We’ve set it on 4.2 volts in a YoCan UNI Pro battery and it delivered great hits.

When you vape a Javelina THC cart on most standard batteries, it really not going to hit that good. I tried it on the SteamCloud EVOD, which was also variable, but it did not perform well. I tried it on a standard pull draw batteries and the hits were not strong either. Not until I put it on the YoCan UNI Pro did I get really good hits out of it and when I set it to 4.2 volts. I did not have my Vessel battery with me for this review, but I bet that one would do well also.

At 4.2 volts on YoCan UNI Pro, this cartridge hits great and it’s very strong. However, you have to judge the cartridge out of the box. for most people, they don’t have different batteries lying around to try out. Most people are going to have a standard eCig battery or something like the CCELL Palm or Silo, which won’t even fit the Javelina. Mod battery users will like this cart.

I should add that you should probably get the official Javelina battery with this cartridge. That guarantees you will get strong hits.

Taste is awesome on the Javelina cartridge

Back panel of the Javelina cartridge's packaging
The total THC level of Javelina is 83.20%.

The Javelina cartridge uses real cannabis terpenes and does not have any artificial flavoring. It does taste excellent, even if you’re on a battery that doesn’t work properly with it, it’s still going to give out a great taste. Absolutely nothing to complain here about the taste. I would put this on the top 15% of the good-tasting cartridge out there.

Javlina hardware is efficient

Javelina on a YoCan UNI Pro battery
Efficiency on the Javelina cartridge is great because of how the holes were designed on the bottom of it.

The way that the holes are placed at the bottom makes the Javelina cartridge very efficient. The holes are long and sideways. They’re placed very well. Can’t complain about efficiency here as far as actual oil getting out of the cartridge.

The only complaint that I have for efficiency is that if you are using a battery that doesn’t just do well with this cartridge, you will not get an efficient hit because every hit is not that hard.

Number of puffs are good

The number of puffs is really good no matter what battery you use. On a weaker battery, it’s gonna last much longer. On a stronger battery, at least you are getting a very significant puff per draw. Overall, the number of puffs is good either way.

Value is excellent

The value on the Javelina cartridge is good if you have the right battery to pair it with. It was $40 plus tax in a licensed Colorado shop. There are other options in CO with the same price that already have better hardware, but if I have the right battery Javelina is something I would pick up again.

Weighing awesome oil, great taste, and when paired with their battery it hits awesome, I would put the value at excellent. If you already have the right battery and you have seen this review and you already know how to get the right battery for it, the value will go up to above average since the oil is really good and it is a strong cartridge. Hitting this cart on the wrong battery would give a worse value.

Concluding our Javelina cartridge review…

Javelina cartridge packaging
Javelina is a great cartridge when paired to the right battery.

Overall, the Javelina cartridge is great or not so great depending on the battery you have to pair with it. If you are reading this review before buying it, make sure that you have a battery that can adjust to 4.2 volts, and that’s how you’ll get the best hit out of it. Or get the official Javelina battery and you are certain to get awesome hits.

Amber Gold Xtracts Is A Black Market Brand

0

Every day in the business of tracking down fake, street, and black market brands, we find a new deceptive trick. The black market is responding to the public concern by increasingly camouflaging box product as legitimate brands. Such is the case with Amber Gold Xtracts, a THC vape cartridge brand with no company behind it.

Amber Gold Xtracts are out there, but not common

We only find one report on Reddit’s oilpen channels about this product, but it begins a thread we’ll pursue later. This report (with a now deleted video, just our luck) mentions a legit-looking package but “can’t get that QR code to scan.”

Remember that part, it’s foreshadowing!

There’s plenty of Amber Gold Xtracts on Instagram

The hashtag #ambergoldxtracts leads to several channels promoting the brand and some other THC 710 packaging. Some channel patrons were generous enough to provide us with glimpses of this QR code:

Amber Gold Xtracts with QR code stickers

Amber Gold Xtracts with QR code stickers

Both of these are, indeed, too muddled for our own QR code scanners to connect. For anybody wondering, you can easily find QR codes by simply Googling them, and then if you have access to another screen, you should have no problem scanning a QR code off, say, a laptop onto a phone.

But these don’t pick up for anything we’re using, and then we noticed something. Rotating one of the images and blowing up the QR code areas, we get this result which we can still make out even though the images get a bit blurry in one sample:

QR codes side by side

Now, why would the QR code be the same on all three boxes? For three different strains, two made in February 2019 and one in March 2019? You can see the pattern doesn’t change between all three codes. By everything we know about how QR codes on vape carts are supposed to work, they should be individual down to the cartridge. That way you can check to see if they’re factory-sealed originals. That’s how Rove does it, for instance.

Note also, that the code and other details are on a sticker. We haven’t seen mass-produced street carts with their own stickers before. Again, like with Muha Meds, that’s going to a whole lot of trouble to appear legit when it would be less trouble and expense to just go legit!

More Amber Gold Xtracts drama on Instagram

Apparently somebody flagged an Amber Gold Xtracts post with that hashtag and Instagram removed it? User account “elpote710” reports so, telling off whoever did that along with some vulgar language. The same guy also posts this jaw-dropping rant:

avoid fake carts, like Amber Gold Xtracts

Lots to unpack here. He’s calling out other fake brands. Then posting a video highlight under “AmberGold” there showing rows of mass-produced boxes from somebody’s home.

"by people in their garage"

other fake brand on same profile

And hawking other known fake brands on the same page. We meet again, DankWoods! For this guy to do all that is just hypocrisy on a whole new level.

Then several of the brands in that list are real companies, just frequently counterfeit ones, but he calls all those not safe. Finally, ah, we assure you all that there are some terpenes in cannabis alright. This guy seems suspicious about terpenes. In fact, there’s plenty of the same terpenes in your spice rack and a few kicking around your produce, and for all we know somebody could be sprinkling some basil in there. So half-point awarded, maybe, but the problem with the lung damage epidemic isn’t coming from terpenes, it’s the vitamin E acetate in the cut.

more garage-filled carts

Anyway, ElPote is far from the only Instagrammer posting videos of cartridges ready to sell. There’s also “THC.farmacy,” with a KFC ripoff for a logo. In case you were discouraged by the usual “nothing for sale” disclaimer that all weed-stagrammers put on their profile, here’s this:

weed deliver

Hey, if these are the closest we can get to spokespeople for this supposed brand with stickers and QR codes on it, then we’re just quoting them!

Amber Gold Xtracts on Pinterest too

Here’s this user’s profile, giving us a glimpse into the rarely-encountered Pinterest side of THC vape culture.

We also find it on black market sites like these:

black market site

black market site

Thanks, you have Stiiizy counterfeits, and they’re “compatible with Juul pods,” like Juul didn’t have enough problems already!

Locations we’ve seen reported so far include Pomona, California, and Philly / Pennsylvania, between the several pages and social media accounts.

The Amber Gold Xtracts trail pans out here

Well, several things we never did find for Amber Gold Xtracts is a company, a license, a registration, or a licensed dispensary selling same. All that, after trying to scan these QR codes. It’s as if this brand was nothing but… fool’s gold?

Readers, we turn the floor over to you. Wanted: One clear QR scan of this code! Notify us in the forum.

Apex RemPen Review: Good With The Right Battery

apex re pen review

I started out using this Apex RemPen with just a standard non-variable battery. Needless to say, it didn’t really hit that well. It seemed pretty weak, it wasn’t terrible but it wasn’t anything that great. Then I switch it over to a variable voltage battery and it made a huge difference.

The key to getting the most out of an Apex RemPen vape cartridge seems to be running the battery at 4.2 volts. If you run it on a standard pull draw that’s probably battery likely operating around 3.7 volts, it’s not going to perform well. Use something like a Vessel battery or YoCan Uni and you won’t be disappointed.

Pros:

  • Good oil
  • Strong effects
  • Good build quality

Cons:

  • Hardware needs the right battery to get a strong hit

Recommendations: Put this oil on something standard like CCELL hardware and it should make it taste a little bit better.

Check out our video review below and keep reading for the more in-depth review.

The Apex RemPen cartridge overall is a good quality product with the right settings

APEX RE Pen packaging
The Apex RemPen cart comes in this plastic cylinder that is in a hangable box.

As a complete package, the APEX RemPen is pretty good. It’s not the absolute best cartridge out there, but I would say it lands on the top 1/3 when it comes to quality and strength out of the cartridges that are available.

The strain used in this review is Sundae Drive, most likely based on Sundae Driver. This cartridge is currently available in Colorado.

Another nice thing about APEX RemPen is that it comes in 600mg instead of 500mg but it’s priced the same as 500mg THC carts. Right off the bat that’s a nice increase.

Build quality seems pretty good but the design is slightly lacking

apex re pen
Oil has a yellow tinge.

You can still get a good hit out of this as mentioned when we use the right battery. However, by default its just really not that great piece of hardware. If they use a CCELL, SPRK, or maybe a pod system like the Uno or Dart, better results would be had from the same THC oil.

Colorado seems to have a wider variety of hardware types than California and Nevada, who seem to have mostly CCELL as the default.

When you use a variable battery on 4.2 volts, however, you will get a good hit. Still, though, it still not good as you will get on a CCELL even operating on a standard pull draw battery like the Palm or Silo. I do feel like this oil could be even better if they have good hardware. Additionally, the airflow holes are very small on the mouthpiece and it does seem a little bit restricted.

Oil quality very good on the Apex RemPen

The oil never changed color the entire time. I had the APEX RemPen for 2 months of on and off use before writing this review.

Part of the reason why I didn’t start hitting that much initially as it seems pretty weak. My priority as a reviewer is to get to the best stuff first if I am hitting multiple items, so the APEX RemPen sat for a bit while going through other THC vape carts.

Then I tried it on another battery in the right settings and it seems much better. With no consistency changes with the oil at all, and everything maintained its color to the end, this seems to be a quality made distillate. Doesn’t seem that it has any cutting agents, non-cannabis terpenes or anything like that on this cartridge.

Strength is battery dependent, go with variable voltage for the APEX RemPen

apex re pen cart on yocan uni
The YoCan Uni paired well with the APEX RemPen cartridge.

A standard battery would make you think that this cartridge is weak and not strong at all. Put it at the right battery and put it on the right voltage, and now you will have a strong cartridge again.

Definitely in the top 1/3 of carts when it comes to strength when it’s at 4.2V. I’m comparing to other cartridges that I have tried in CA, CO and NV.

Apex re pen test results
THC coming in at 83%.

It’s not the absolute strongest cartridge and if I’m looking for something that is stronger around the same price, I would probably take an AiroPro over this one. You are getting an extra 100mg with this cartridge but I would just grab and take another cartridge that is slightly better than buying this one.

I mention AiroPro because it was available at the same dispensary I picked up this APEX RemPen cart at. You do need an AiroPro battery or UWOW Storm (don’t use an adapter the magnets line up perfectly already) to vape AiroPro carts though. The Storm is also a decent battery for Apex carts.

Taste is decent, nothing spectacular

Nothing really special on taste, but in a good way. It doesn’t seem like they’re adding any flavors in here and I prefer that rather than adding fake flavors. However, the distillate itself doesn’t taste spectacular. There are better tasting cartridges that are straight distillate. For example, Roots, Cannavative and one that completely blew us away on taste, the AiroPro Live Flower Series.

Comparing CO to CO from the same purchase batch, APEX RemPen was on par taste-wise with Eureka Vapor, but behind Javelina.

APEX RemPen cartridge is pretty efficient, with the right battery

apex re pen efficiency
Here’s towards the end of the APEX RemPen.

If you are using a standard battery the whole time of this cartridge, you will really think that this is not efficient because you will never get a strong hit out of it even though it is using the oil up to the last drop.

We should note that the intake holes on this are much smaller than there are on most of the batteries.  They’re trying to make it use less oil as it goes. Personally, I think larger intake holes are better and small intake holes are often the reason why you’re not getting a strong hit out of your cartridge. This is the case on the Jackpot Cartridge.

But if you have the right battery on the right voltage, efficiency is pretty good and this oil does really last a long time. It vapes slowly as you would expect from this thick of THC oil.

Number of puffs is good

If you have a crappy battery it’s gonna puff for a while. But if you have a good battery, its gonna give a better hit and still puff for a while. You’re also getting a lot of puffs than normal because there’s 600mg in here instead of the usual 500mg, which gives you a bit extra.

Value is there but could be better with different hardware

If they give this a better piece of hardware, this will definitely be of better value. You don’t really know the full potential of this oil until you put it in some type of standardized hardware that hits really good.

We already know that this cartridge doesn’t hit very well without the right battery, so that does take it ours from its value. You need to have the proper battery in order to get a better hit. At the price of $40 plus tax, there are other options available that have a better value.

For example, in Nevada, a Cannavative cartridge is also $40 at Tsaa Nesunkwa Dispensary in Ely. Cannavative cartridges are stronger, taste better and use CCELL’s glass cart hardware. They come 100mg less, but I rather take less to have an overall better cartridge.

Compared to a lot of other brands though Apex is way better. I would take an APEX RemPen over a Cookies cartridge any day, even though they do use the same CCELL cart hardware Cannavative does. In fact, this in a way proves the APEX RemPen has great oil, just needs better hardware.

Concluding our APEX RemPen review…

apex rempen
This cylinder contains the actual cart.

Overall, the APEX RemPen vape is good. It hits well with the right battery but seems weak otherwise. It’s nice that they have included and extra 100mg but I rather just have better hardware than have the extra 100mg. I also would like to see this oil in a syringe if they don’t have it already and test it out on a CCELL cartridge.

APEX RemPen cart is an example of a company trying to go unique with the hardware and it’s not working out so well. The piece of hardware doesn’t seem that it would be much cheaper based on the construction of it, which seems like high-quality parts. It just doesn’t hit as hard as CCELL. My recommendation would be to switch this oil over to a CCELL, SPRK or other types of hardware that hits better. Then this will be an overall better cart.

We’d love to hear all about it in the comments below or check out our forum.

AiroPro Live Flower Series: Best Tasting Cartridges

airopro live flower series review

IMPORTANT UPDATE 3/11/21: AiroPro has now rebranded its distillate as AiroPod. Their products now look like this:

AiroPod by AiroPro
AiroPod by AiroPro

Same company with their website at Airo Brands. The below review is a legacy review for their old cartridge product line. We will have to get around to reviewing their new product line.

AiroPro has been one of our favorite brands for a while. But, some people never liked the more artificial type flavoring that strains like Mountain Mist, Sumatran Sunrise, and Oz’s Orchard. So, AiroPro decided to make something that tastes just like flower and they got it right. These cartridges taste more like an actual flower than any of the cartridges I have tried so far, even though it’s distillate.

AiroPro recently came out with the strongest live resin cartridge we tried so far, but the Live Flower Series tasted better and is slightly stronger on effects. Their distillate with the cannabis terpenes added in tastes right on point.

Pros:

  • Excellent taste
  • Very strong
  • Quality oil

Cons:

  • AiroPro battery dies sometimes

Recommendations: It would be nice to see this in a glass cartridge.

Licensing Information: LVPCA Licence #35786145068445853965

Check out our video review below and keep reading on for the more in-depth review.

AiroPro Live Flower Series maintains high strength, improves taste

AiroPro Live Flower Series packaging

You may have seen our original AiroPro review, or go over the basic distillate cartridges that they originally came out with. I’m not totally sure, but I got a feeling that these were not using actual cannabis terpenes because they had flavors that seemed unnatural. I am not that concerned about that, as long as everything is done safely. Airo Vapor has sold over 3 milli0n units without a health complaint.

The Live Flower Series is really another level of a cartridge, they pretty much took everything that is already perfect in AiroPro and just added better flavor. For those who demand natural cannabis terpenes, AiroPro has brought it. For this review, we used two different strains: White Rhino and Skunk #1.

AiroPro cartridges are designed and built by CCELL

airopro hardware
AiroPro hardware seems like a modified CCELL M6T, similar to what Select Elite uses.

AiroPro cartridges are CCELL carts in different bodies. The core is the same as other CCELL cartridges but it uses a magnetic bottom. This style of vape pen is also used by another company called Phenopens.

Unofficial AiroPro battery alternative: UWOW Storm

AiroPro carts are also compatible with the UWOW Storm battery. Just don’t use the magnetic adapter that comes with it. Pop it right in and it goes! We don’t think it’s been figured out by most yet that AiroPro works on those batteries, but it works better than using the standard one.

Glass would be nice in the future

The only thing that I could think of the build as an improvement is a glass cartridge. I’m not sure about the contents of plastic, but I do like glass more than plastics. Other than that, everything on the build is pretty solid.

Oil quality on AiroPro Live Flower Series is top-notch as expected

AiroPro makes super high-quality oil no matter what state you go to and whether it’s distillate or live resin. The Live Flower Series I have only seen in Las Vegas, Nevada so far but I’m sure this will be spreading to other states.

AiroPro is also available in California, Colorado, Washington, Oregon, and Arizona. The quality of the oil seems to be the same exact consistency as the prior AiroPro cartridges just the flavor is different. Therefore, it’s super top-notch. You can tell they’re using quality products and quality methods in producing exceptional quality results.

AiroPro still one of the strongest

Whether it’s Live Flower Series, Live Resin or the original distillate AiroPro, AiroPro is strong. I personally find the distillate cartridges to be stronger than Live Resin except for AiroPro’s. AiroPro’s Live Resin is stronger than a lot of distillate cartridges on a side note.

However, here with the Live Flower Series, it is distillate and I think it is slightly stronger than AiroPro’s own Live Resin and it is on par with other distillate AiroPro cartridges on strength. I do prefer this Live Flower Series taste over the other artificial flavors and that I think overall it is a better cartridge. However, strength seems to be pretty comparable between the two distillate versions of AiroPro.

After trying hundreds of vape carts, AiroPro’s Live Flower Series tastes the best

At this point we’ve tried hundreds of cartridges. Not a hundred brands, but hundreds of different cartridges. AiroPro’s Live Flower Series is the best tasting by a substantial margin. Particularly the Skunk #1, it’s just super excellent and flavorful. The other one as well also tastes really good.

The taste of AiroPro actually reminds me of the taste of some of the flower from my favorite cultivators, Remedy. We previously reviewed the Remedy cartridge which is pretty good too, not as good as AiroPro. However, on taste, the flowers from Remedy is very similar to the cartridges of AiroPro. For those of you that are not familiar with Remedy, they are one of the consistently best flower cultivators in Nevada.

Efficiency is always top-notch in AiroPro

empty airo pro cartridge
This one was a standard AiroPro cart, but efficiency is the same.

There’s nothing to complain about efficiency with AiroPro. You’re basically going down to the last drop since its a CCELL and it hits very efficiently and strong when you get a hit. There’s really nothing wasted here.

Number of puffs is good because puffs are strong

On AiroPro, we marked the number of puffs a little bit higher because each puff is way stronger. Technically, you will get fewer puffs on an AiroPro than you would on a regular cartridge, but the fact that AiroPro hits really strong per puff makes each puff more effective. And thus, the score here is better.

Value is great, AiroPro now the same price as other THC carts

airopro hardware
What’s left of Skunk #1 on the left and half-used White Rhino on the right.

Now that the AiroPro has the same price, its an even better value. Recently, Essence – Tropicana West and other dispensaries have been marking AiroPro to the same price as other cartridges. It used to be that an AiroPro cartridge was $52 and all of the other cartridges are $46. Now, that the AiroPro has the same price creates even a more exceptional value. I still bought AiroPro when it has a higher price because it is an exceptional quality cartridge. But now, at the same price with all of the other cartridges, its an even better deal.

Concluding our AiroPro Live Flower Series review…

airo pro skunk #1
Skunk #1 is now one of my all time favorite THC carts.

Overall, the AiroPro Live Flower Series is one of the best cartridges out there. It got that same super strength that you expect from AiroPro. It uses quality CCELL hardware and the price is the same as other cartridges. It also tastes substantially better. The other thing that I like about AiroPro is that it is a multi-state brand like Select Elite. It can show up on one of these states, pick up an AiroPro and you’re guaranteed to get some strong effects.

You can find AiroPro vape pens and cartridges near you here. Learn more about AiroPro on Airo Vapor’s website.

Papa’s Herb Cartridge: Great High and Great Taste

Papa’s Herb cartridge
Papa’s got a nice asthetic

Papa’s Herb cartridges are filled with a THC distillate  Canna Sublime manufactures. Also called Papa’s Pens and Papa’s Vape, the oil for Papa’s Herb vape cartridges is extracted from cannabis that’s cultivated pesticide-free. The farmers are experienced cultivators located throughout California, which is the only state where they are currently available.

Pros:

  • Superb oil quality
  • Delicious flavor
  • Strong High
  • Huge smoke clouds

Cons:

  • Bitter aftertaste

Recommendations: At this point, I can only speculate what they have planned. However, I believe gram sized carts and metal mouthpieces really suit this aesthetic.

Papa’s Herb vape cartridges are pretty great overall

papa's Herb cartridge packaging
Papa’s herb cartridge has vibrant packaging

The tank is solid glass and the base is metal, which I love. The metal is a pale gold The least of my favorites is the mouthpiece on my Papa’s Herb vape cartridge, which is plastic, but it’s solid. The oil looks absolutely amazing and super clear. This particular cartridge is compatible with 510 threaded batteries. For this Papa’s Herb vape cartridge I tested their Tangie, which is a sativa.

The cartridge is built well and has a standard design

papa's herb cartridge in hand
Papa’s herb cartridge has great oil

The cartridge feels very heavy and nice to hold. The glass tank really helps the overall feel of the cartridge and keeps the oil clean. The thick metal base gives it a pleasant boost in weight and an overall good quality feel. The plastic mouthpiece is solid. Overall the design is similar to Old Pal.

Papa’s Herb vape cartridge has a sleek gold-metal

The metal on the cartridge is a pale golden color. This doesn’t seem like a big deal, but it really catches the eye despite being so subtle. The color really fits the aesthetic of Papa’s Herb and it’s a great conversation piece for when you’re sharing. I’m a sucker for the little things.

Despite a thinner mouthpiece, the hits are super smooth

The Papa’s Herb vape cartridge can handle heavy vaping.  I puff some pretty thick clouds with only a 3-second drag. The cart vapes super smooth and the size of the hits surprise me.

The only problem is the mouthpiece is slightly clogged

The thinner mouthpieces are a nice touch, but my cart has developed a minor clog. Obviously not all cartridges are the same and this is far from a deal-breaker. However, if it is a thing that happens, I talk about it. The clog is not major, I just have to let the pen heat up for a second before puffing away.

The oil in Papa’s Herb vape cartridge is amazing and is my favorite thing

This distillate is some of the best looking I have seen in a very long time. I don’t know if the gold-metal base has anything to do with it, but the color is super. Papa’s Herb vape cartridge has a deep, clear, golden oil that is practically a sunset in a jar.

The flavor is absolutely stupendous

The flavors in Papa’s Herb vapes are natural, from full-spectrum terpenes. This vape has a sweet green apple flavor. It tastes a lot like candy, similar to the flavor in Dompens, but Papa’s Herb vape is much bolder. Tastes almost exactly like green Jolly Ranchers.

The only bad part is the aftertaste and slightly dry mouth

The flavor is nice even after the exhale. However, after a few seconds, there is a mild bitterness that fills my mouth. The bitter flavor is not strong, but with dry mouth, it’s all I can taste for a few seconds. The bitter flavor covers the back of my throat and stays on the tongue. It doesn’t often linger passed the first puff, though, or after a drink of water.

The distillate in Papa’s Herb vape cart has a strong high

My Papa’s Herb vape cart tested at 85% THC and about .4% CBD. As far as potency goes, these numbers are solid and the CBD is decent. The high on Papa’s Herb vape cart hits almost immediately after the second large puff. The effects make it a little hard to focus and really elevates my overall mood. Overall I say Papa’s Herb vapes are good for a hike or sharing with lively friends.

Efficiency is at an industry standard

papa's herb cartridge rear packaging
Simple packaging for Papa’s Herb cartridges

It lasts a standard amount of time. I empty the tank on Papa’s Herb vape cartridge in about a week. The wick soaks up almost all the oil which is as good as it gets.

I will most definitely be buying this whenever it becomes available

I don’t know what they’ll be priced when they release, but I would guess 35$ per cartridge. At that price, this would be a great deal. However, it’s the oil and bold flavor that would keep me coming back. Overall, I am excited about any other strains they might have in the future.

Concluding this Papa’s Herb vape review…

This vape was very surprising. The oil has spectacular color and flavor but still hits pretty strong. The high lasts a good 2 hours and leaves me feeling relaxed. I’m excited about what Papa’s Herb has in store for their vapes. If they’re anything like this Tangie I tested, I’m gonna be trying more of them. They don’t feature their vapes yet, but you can find out more about Papa’s Herb on their website.

Curaleaf Class Action Lawsuit: Summary Of Claims

0
Curaleaf stock record for year ending October 2019

Curaleaf is the subject of a federal Class Action Lawsuit regarding it’s stock. Their stock went down over 7% after an FDA warning letter was issued to the company regarding CBD marketing. They were making claims on their site that were inconsistent with federal regulations.

Curaleaf is now the defendant of a class-action securities complaint

Up until recently, Curaleaf Holdings, Inc. has been one of the largest cannabis companies in the world, after the acquisition of Cura Partners to the tune of nearly $1 billion. When news of that acquisition came out in May of 2019, their stock soared. But the proverbial mighty have fallen since the FDA sent Curaleaf a warning about the claims they were making about their CBD products. Curaleaf pulled all advertising claims about their product’s health benefits.

And then their stock tanked hard, to less than half its May 2019 peak. So now this is what the lawsuit is about, a class-action securities complaint against Curaleaf that was filed on August 5 in the Eastern District of New York. The suit’s complaint is that of violations of the Exchange Act, for federal securities law regarding the making of unfounded claims about a product which causes inflation of the stock price.

Here is RK Attorneys with an explainer video:

For the record: the FDA has approved NO over-the-counter cannabis medications

That is zero, zip, and nada. Not CBD oil, not terpenes, not THC, nothing. They have approved about four medications derived from cannabis products for prescription use only. Here is the FDA clarifying their efforts in cannabis product research, and here is an extensive section of questions and answers by the FDA about cannabis products relative to their medical approval.

FDA quotes:

“To date, the agency has not approved a marketing application for cannabis for the treatment of any disease or condition. FDA has, however, approved one cannabis-derived and three cannabis-related drug products. These approved products are only available with a prescription from a licensed healthcare provider.”

So there it is in black and white. Bought it over the counter? Not approved.

In particular, attention seems to be on Curaleaf for its claims of a veterinary medicine derived from cannabis. From Curaleaf’s former marketing:

“CBD has been shown in initial third-party studies to support a pet’s overall wellness including the potential to help manage pain and anxiety.”

As opposed to that FDA FAQ:

“FDA is aware of some cannabis products being marketed as animal health products. We want to stress that FDA has not approved cannabis for any use in animals, and the agency cannot ensure the safety or effectiveness of these products. For these reasons, FDA cautions pet-owners against the use of such products and recommends that you talk with your veterinarian about appropriate treatment options for your pet.”

Bottom line

There certainly seems substance to the claims of the suit based on these text quotes. We certainly can’t speak for Curaleaf’s motives or intentions, of course. They may forge a new business path and recover yet, who knows?

Roam Vape Pen Review: Intense High and Natural Flavor

Roam vape pens are recyclable dose pens. They have THC distillate that is extracted naturally from sun-grown cannabis cultivated in Santa Barbara California. The oil is purified, purged of solvents and blended with terpenes before going into a disposable vape pen. The pens are manufactured by Satellites Dip and they are currently available in Southern California

Pros:

  • No clogging in the mouthpiece
  • The oil never splats through the chamber
  • The high is pretty intense and unique
  • Pen hits smooth and has thick smoke
  • Has a very discreet design
  • Oil has a very natural taste

Cons:

  • The indicator light isn’t visible when taking a dose
  • Only available in Southern California

Recommendations: They should brighten the indicator light because I can’t always tell if the pen is activated.

Licensing Information:

Roam vape pens are excellent in quality overall

Roam vape
Nice Looking Pen

The pen is compact and discreet but also has a smooth design. These pens would be an above-average experience overall but the effects of the oil really make Roam vape pens exceptional. The high is unique and its effects are unlike other pens I have tried. For this review, I tested the Rio Soul blend which feels like an intense sativa.

The pen design and build isn’t entirely unique, but it’s still great

The entire body of my Roam vape pen is plastic. The pen is an oblong cylinder that is one solid pastel blue color. The tank is visible through an opening on the body just below the plastic mouthpiece. There is an ‘R’ printed on the front bottom of the pen. The body of the pen has a soft matte finish similar to Nuvata vape pens.

The Roam vape pen benefits from using a ceramic coil

The ceramic coil really preserves the quality of the distillate. Every dose of my Roam vape pen, from its first to its last, had a smooth clean flavor. The ceramic coil helps with burning the oil, and so the smoke never tastes burnt or bitter. It can also keep oil from bubbling into the mouthpiece keep he hits smooth.

The tank on this vape pen is larger than most other disposables

Most disposable pens are made with a quarter gram tank. A smaller tank allows manufacturers to keep pens compact and discreet. However, These vape pens have half gram tanks and manage to be smaller than some disposable pens on the market.

Roam Full Package
Lovely Packaging

Superb oil quality really sets Roam vape pens apart from others

The oil within the tank is a clear brown color and seems pretty thick. It vapes smooth and has a very natural fruity flavor without any bitter aftertaste. The oil isn’t harsh on the sinuses or throat and is very easy to vape. Like some cannabis companies, Roam has a blend of terpenes to achieve the desired flavor and effect. However, according to their website, the distillate in this pen has a blend of 40+ terpenes which is far more than the average.

This particular blend has a robust top-notch flavor to match its smoothness

Roam vape pens have a bold aromatic flavor that has a very natural quality to it. The distillate doesn’t taste quite as sweet as some vapes, similar to Dompen, but Roam’s is definitely bolder. The flavor of Roam vape pens makes it seem like I’m vaping a cocktail of fruit juices and it is delicious.

Roam Packaging
The CBD content is very good

Roam vape pens do not sacrifice potency for flavor

With THC testing at an excellent 81.7%, Roam vape pens achieve great potency and maintain a smooth taste. Also, on top of THC, the distillate tested at a superb 7.92% CBD  which is actually quite high. Most distillates have little to no CBD, however, Roam vape pens have double the potency of CBD heavy flower.

The terpene blend and high CBD content really make the high a strong and unique experience

Roam vape pens have a strong high that catches me by surprise. With an extensive blend of over 40 terpenes, these pens are a unique experience. The Rio Soul pen is definitely not for relaxing and unwinding. The high on the Roam vape pen hit very suddenly and gives me a strong urge to move or create something. I can get quite anxious if I don’t accomplish something or move around while under this pen’s influence.

Efficiency on the Roam vape pen is as good as it gets

This ceramic coil does a great job of sucking up every last bit of the distillate within the pen. Nothing sucks more than dose pens dying and leaving a large pool of oil in the tank. However, this particular battery lasted long enough for the coil to suck up every last bit of oil.

I would definitely buy this pen again

Roam vape pens are generally priced at 45$ which is an average price. Many disposable vape pens are around that price but they offer half the oil that Roam does. However, the super unique high on these disposable vape pens makes it a great value. I am curious about the effects of the other blends and I hope that they are as great as this one.

Roam Vape Pen Full Frontal
Sleek and Lowkey

Concluding my Roam vape pen review…

This pen has a half gram of superb tasting oil with a unique terpene blend at a great price. With a strong high and great physical design, this pen is a powerhouse in the disposable pen market. Although the distillates don’t taste like a flower, they have a clean and natural fruity flavor.

They have an average price tag, but the effects and overall experience really make it a great buy. Aliens Rx Cartridge Review: Vape at your own risk

Claimed to be a cannabis cup winner, Aliens Rx carts are definitely a good hit, but where is the source? A California based company with a mysterious background, AliensRx remains a low key company. Research showed nothing about them on cannabis cups, but one strange thing did pop up.  The website for Aliens RX and original Instagram are currently down. Now they are up as @AliensRx_Cail.

On that Instagram account, they list a California License number 10002329, belonging to Loud Pack, makers of Heavy Hitters. You can search for it here. AliensRx might be made by Loud Pack, but we emailed them to confirm and will update this post once we receive a response.

Pros:

  • Appears to be licensed
  • Strong

Cons:

  • No background information
  • Heavy terp flavor tastes almost artificial
  • Pre-printed THC claims probably false
  • Flavor sour
  • Vitamin E claims have been made, but not verified

Notice: DabConnection does not offer any medical advice nor guarantees the safety of any of the products reviewed on the site. The FDA currently advises against vaping THC. This particular product appears to be black market and may pose additional dangers beyond state-regulated cartridges.

Fake info right out the box on Aliens RX carts

AliensRx out of the box.

A shiny little box with strange figured characters and an alien face, no child safety lock and they come in 26 pieces per box. This cart seems very suspicious given the information available. The box seems very attention-grabbing but that’s about it. Claims to be 98%, but unless it’s a sticker with fresh lab results, we don’t trust it.

The background behind AliensRx and OxClear

AliensRx have a shiny packaging.

Aliens Rx might just be a labeling company similar to Dank Vapes or any other black market cart, the only difference is the this one states the company that produces them. Besides that, all the information we could find is provided by threads and people, concluding these carts still have almost no background.

Taste is very unnatural on the Alien RX cartridge

Taste of AliensRx is very artificial.

Claiming to be Do-Si-Dos but definitely reintroduced terpenes have been added and you can clearly taste it. I don’t want to say it’s an unpleasant flavor but definitely was an unusual taste. Terps seem to ruin this cart. When terps are reintroduced they most likely aren’t MJ derived and in this cart, you can definitely taste a strong flavor. Unnatural terpenes are not recommended by some for vaping.

AliensRx Oil Quality is a mystery

AliensRx has a good build quality.

Claims to be a Cannabis Cup winner and SC Labs certified, but the oil definitely doesn’t compare to any dispensary cartridge I’ve had. Very thick oil doesn’t seem diluted, but the amount of terpenes added seems very excessive.

After a small amount of research done there were claims of the company using Vitamin E and causing problems in its local community about a year ago. After seeing that, I instantly put the cartridge down, I’d rather be safe than sorry. I was hoping maybe they changed that since I did happen to hit on it before stumbling across that, but evidently there is no way in surely knowing.

Concluding the AliensRx Review…

aliens rx vape cart
Instagram has different packaging.

Always trust your source and be cautious about what you consume. Although the first hits I did in this cart made me feel decent, the information that could be gathered made me definitely reconsider.

Select Elite vs Brass Knuckles – Best Strength, Effect and Value Wins!

0
Select Elite vs Brass Knuckles

Select Elite and Brass Knuckles are two of the top most popular vape cartridge brands out there. We’ve reviewed both Select Elite and Brass Knuckles many times here. Brass Knuckles has had tested dirty before, while Select Elite has been a consistently good product.

There now are both fake Brass Knuckles and fake Select Elite cartridges, so check our pages to make sure you have an authentic product. Below is our video comparison of Select Elite vs. Brass Knuckles. Then keep reading on for the in-depth analysis.

Select Elite is fire, Brass Knuckles is mids

First, the Brass Knuckles hardware died. I ended up dumping the oil into a CCELL later. Brass Knuckles has had issues with their outdated hardware in the past, which puts them at a disadvantage.

Select Elite is in a class by itself. The worst puff we’ve had off a Select Elite still beats Brass Knuckles on its best day.

The only metric where Brass Knuckles comes out ahead is taste. They do know how to make good flavor oil and their terpene game is strong. Select Elite comes out ahead in every other category: Strength, effect, value, and hardware performance.

Select Elite vs Brass Knuckles
Brass Knuckles has nicer packaging, but the cart is what matters.

Brass Knuckles needs a new hardware design

It’s obvious to see where Brass Knuckles keeps getting knocked back. When we compared best and worst vape cartridge designs, Select Elite used hardware ranked high and Brass Knuckles is one of the worst. Brass Knuckles’ coiled atomizers leave a metallic taste, their hardware has a high failure rate, and they just have an outdated design.

CCELL’s first generation cartridge was not good either, but CCELL updated their hardware and it’s now one of the best types of hardware available.

Select compared to Knuckles
brass knuckles in CCELL

Conclusion: Select Elite wins

Even if they both had evenly matched hardware, we get more puffs and higher quality oil off the Select Elite. Select Elite carts provide better and longer-lasting effects. But it would be nice to see Brass Knuckles improve their carts and make something stronger.

Comments or experiences with either Select Elite or Brass Knuckles? We’d love to hear about it in the comments below or our forum.

Wind Vape Cartridge: Extreme High and Decent Flavor

Wind Vape Review

Wind Vape cartridges, by Sunderstorm, have a pure THC distillate. Sunderstorm extracts the oil in these vapes from clean cannabis that is grown free of pesticides. Wind vape cartridges are manufactured and distributed by Sunderstorm, a company native to Los Angeles.

They are available throughout Northern and Southern California and they are known for their purity and potency. This Wind vape review revealed a high-quality cartridge that really packs on the strength.

Pros:

  • Amazing oil quality
  • Big thick clouds
  • Fast-acting
  • Works with any 510 thread

Cons:

  • Might be too intense for some users

Recommendations: Not much to change here, the cartridge is great.

Update: 11/27/2019 – Added new packaging from Wind Vape by Sunderstorm

Disclosure: Dominique the writer of this review works at Sunderstorm, but in order fulfillment.

Licensing Information:

Wind Vape cart
Nice clear and golden oil

Wind Vape cartridges are fantastic overall

Sunderstorm manufactures and distributes their own products so they take particular care in what they do. Their Wind vape carts are on exception. The carts are built sturdy and have a pure distillate that smokes smooth and hits hard. For this Wind vape cart review, I tested out the Jack Herer strain, which is an intense sativa.

Cartridge design is nothing unique but it is great quality overall

Sunderstorm doesn’t skimp on quality with their Wind vape cartridges. With a mouthpiece and base made of metal, the carts are quite sturdy and feel very substantial when held. Wind vape cartridges have a thick glass tank, which I prefer over plastic, to ensure no plastic permeates their pure oil.

Wind Vape carts have a nice long mouthpiece that has great airflow

The mouthpiece on this cart is quite large. It isn’t too much larger than other carts, but it has a large tube that really helps with airflow. The airflow is quite open and without any resistance so I can take huge hits and make thick clouds. At times, however, it can be so smooth it’s a bit hard to tell if I got any vape.

The oil quality is the star of the show in this cartridge

Sunderstorm takes care to provide the purest solvent-free distillates to put into their Wind vape cartridge. They start with strict pesticide-free cannabis cultivation and extract the oils using C02. They triple distill their oil and purge it completely to achieve unmatched purity before putting the golden fluid into a cartridge.

Wind Vape cartridges have spectacular potency and high

I warn you that these distillates smoke very smooth and they hit very hard. Testing at 90% THC, this batch of Jack Herer really packs a punch. However, what really makes it so intense is the fact that the distillate has CBD present. The high potency of THC mixed with CBD gives Wind vape cartridges a hallucinogenic effect that is very intense and I love it. The only other cartridge I have experienced this with is Roam’s entourage effect.

The Wind Vape cartridge by Sunderstorm
The Wind Vape by Sunderstrom is really strong.
Updated Packaging
We got here the updated packaging for this specific strain.

This cart has a very mild flavor but it is naturally derived

Though perhaps not considered full-spectrum, Wind vape cartridges do have a number of terpenes present. The terpenes add a fruity and slightly musty flavor that is in no way overly potent. Wind vape cartridges have are smooth and zesty without leaving a bitter aftertaste. For a similar experience but a more robust flavor, Raw Garden is a great choice.

The terpenes in Wind vape cartridge distillates really add to the overall effect of the high

Terpenes do more than give this oil flavor. The overall high of this cart is amazing and the terpenes make it a great experience. If it weren’t for the terpenes and CBD the high would have been a lot less intense and complex. The purity and cleanliness of this distillate really give a clear high, but terpenes make it well-rounded.

Relevant data
Good Info on the stickers

The distillates are the purest I have seen on the market

Most cartridge companies don’t take the time to make their distillates 100% solvent and filler-free like Wind vape carts are. According to the COA this batch of distillate tested negative for nearly everything and it makes the effects feel very clean and intense. This is great because I don’t get any sort of headache when vaping Wind carts.

Efficiency on the Wind vape cartridge was industry standard

This cart didn’t re-invent the wheel when it comes to efficiency. Like most cartridges of the same design, I could not completely empty the tank. The tank still has a little bit off oil left, but the wick doesn’t suck it up and so it remains. Although I’m just being greedy because I want to finish the oil all up.

The Potency gives you a great bang for your buck

I only take one big puff of my Wind vape cartridge to be sent spiraling into an intense high. The cartridge is a standard 1/2 gram in size but because I really don’t have to use much to feel the effects it lasts a good while. The high itself peaks quickly and lasts, quite intensely, for about 4 hours. This will probably extend my Wind vape cart to last about 3 or 4 weeks which is great.

This pen is totally worth it and I am going to be purchasing it again

Wind vape cartridges are an absolute value. They average at $35 per cart and although that price is pretty average, the distillate is not. For that price, the distillate’s smooth and tasty vape caught me off guard. Not to mention that more steeply-priced vape pens come nowhere near the intensity of Wind vape cartridges.

Sunderstorm wind vape cartridge
Very smooth and clean

Concluding my review of Wind vape cartridges…

Updated Wind Vape cartridge Jack Herrer - Sativa
New packaging for the Jack Herrer- Sativa.

The distillate within Wind carts is really a testament to what a clean and pure distillate is capable of. These cartridges have the purest and cleanest feeling highs I have ever felt and they take effect almost immediately. Overall it’s an experience that is well worth the cheap price and can entertain even the heaviest smokers. I wouldn’t recommend vaping it on an empty stomach.

You can find more information about Wind on the Sunderstorm website. You can find out about their availability here.

RAD Vape Cartridge Review: Weak and Bad Hardware

rad vape review
The RAD vape cartridge appears to use THC distillate but it might be CO2 Oil. Overall this turned out to be the most disappointing vape cartridge I purchased in the past year. It tastes really good, but even at almost 85% THC, I feel almost no effects from this cartridge. On top of that, when I open the cartridge, originally its already leaking out from the bottom due to the poor quality of the hardware it uses.
Pros:
  • Great taste

Cons:

  • Very week effects
  • Hardware leaks

Recommendations: There’s something off with this formula that results in almost no effect. Also, change the hardware to something good like the CCELL or SPRK Cartridge.

See our video review of RAD vape Cartridge below. Keep reading on for a more in-depth review.

The RAD vape cartridge is disappointing

RAD vape
Fresh RAD cartridge out of the box
I did not like anything about this vape cartridge except for the taste. The taste is really awesome. The strain we tried here is the Hawaiian Punch and it really does have a great Hawaiian Punch taste to it. However, there’s absolutely no strength which is odd considering the THC percentage is fairly high.
We’ll go more into the details on the RAD vape cartridge below, but I can say that it’s not something I would recommend in it’s current state.

RAD vape cartridges have poor build quality, leaked out of the box

RAD vape cartridge
Leak coming out of the RAD cartridge.

When I first opened the RAD cartridge and looked at the rubber piece at the bottom, you can see that the oil already dripped in. I pulled it off and the oil is already leaking out of the bottom airflow holes from the cartridge. This is not normal, and not something you normally see. I noticed that RAD is using some type of cartridge that is not that common and it appears to be of cheaper quality. It actually looks like the type of thing that you would see on exotic carts.

Definitely, they should use better quality here. However, I did take this oil and put it in an old Caliva cartridge which is actually a CCELL. Even then, changing the hardware did not save it.

RAD vape cartridges lack strength

RAD cartridge
It does taste like Hawaiian Punch.
I’m not the only one to claim this, but I checked out other reviews online and other people were saying that the RAD Vape has no strength. Not sure what’s missing here. Maybe it doesn’t have that much THC as they say or maybe there’s something that is not properly blended with the terpenes, myrcene or other items in the cartridge.
Overall, there’s really just no strength here. I ended up giving half of this cartridge away after doing a test on in a CCELL as mentioned above and realizing that this oil doesn’t do anything for me. Maybe it will do something someone who is a very light user, but this cartridge will take you back to 4 years ago when THC vape cartridges were extremely weak.

Taste is the one thing that the RAD vape cartridge has going for

RAD cartridge
It does taste like Hawaiian Punch.
The taste is really good. The strain reviewed here is Hawaiian Punch and it actually tastes like Hawaiian Punch. Some people don’t like these types of flavored cartridges, but I don’t mind them.
There has to be an artificial flavoring as it doesn’t taste natural. I would prefer a straight, nice distillate taste like Aces extracts, but this still tastes better than the trim run oil that you find on brands like Select Elite. Since Select is so much stronger, I would still take Select Elite over this.

Efficiency is not so good because it already leaked right out of the box

RAD cartridge
RAD vape carts use low quality hardware.

When I took off the rubber piece on the bottom of the cartridge, it was already leaking. I lost oil without even using the product and overall efficiency cannot be scored higher because of that.
On top of that, the hardware is not really good and it’s not delivering every hit. There’s more efficient hardware out there. I would say that this is probably more efficient than the pods out there that seem to pull oil on the sides. That has happened to all of them including the G Pen Gio, CCELL Dart, Uno, and the Yocan Trio.

RAD vape is standard cost, sub par performance

RAD cartridge
Here’s what the RAD vape cart looked like before opening it.

A full gram RAD vape cartridge is $60 at Pure Life in Placerville, CA. That’s the standard price that they have for all one gram cartridges. I would much rather grab a Select Elite at the same place for the same price.

I would rather pay $42 for a half gram Aces Extracts disposable vape pen over the RAD cart. I will get more effects from that half gram than the RAD full gram, simply because it is so much stronger per hit. I can hit the RAD vape 30 times in a row and it would not be as strong as hitting the Aces Extracts vape 5 times.

Concluding our RAD Vape Cartridge review…

RAD cartridge

The RAD vape turned out to be a big disappointment. It looks cool and the THC percentage is high but it uses poor quality hardware that leaks and there’s something off about the formula. We hope they can re-formulate this at some point and make this a good cartridge.

A lot of these companies are just a couple of steps away from going from a low-quality product to a high-quality product. At this point, I cannot recommend RAD vapes but if I see a hardware change in the future I will give it another try and update this review.

How To Make Your Own Vape Oil Starting From Weed

0
how to make vape oil from weed rosin

Here we go through how to turn weed into vape oil. With all the scare over fake cartridges, many people are turning to make your own options. This goes through everything from start to finish. You will start with flower and end with THC oil you can pop into a cartridge.

Weed to vape: Turning straight flower into oil you can hit from a cartridge

Step #1: Weed to Rosin

If you follow our HOWTO category, you know how to press rosin from flower. You also have several options for obtaining rosin from flower. Once you have rosin, you know that heating it will decarb it – which is to say, turn THCA into THC. See sidebar at the end for why we do this.

Here’s another in-depth write-up on rosin and what to do with it.

Light vs dark rosin

For this video low quality rosin was used. The darker the rosin the more waxes and other plant material contained. The lighter the rosin the easier it will be to filter and less terpenes needed.

Step #2: Decarb

decarbing rosin

Decarb your rosin in a glass vial on a hot plate. Set the temperature at 220°F (104.4°C) for 30-40 minutes. Be careful not to let the temperature get too high; Terpenes and cannabinoids tend to start breaking down around the 310°F (154.4°C) mark.

Step #3: Add terpenes

adding terpenes

Lower the hot plate temperature to 150°F (65.5°C). Get out whatever terpene blend you have to use (we’ve also covered blending your own terpene profile). The more terpenes you add, the more diluted your concentrate gets, and the easier it will be to filter. This is actually going to be important in the next step.

You want to keep the temperature at or below 150°F (65.5°C) so that you don’t damage the terpenes too. You need to keep applying heat and mixing it until the batch is perfectly blended.

Step #4: Filter the mixture

attaching filter

filtering juice

This is where it gets tricky. You want to filter out things like wax, fats, lipids, and other pulpy bits of plant matter. To do so, draw some of the mixture into a syringe, attach a syringe filter to the end, and squeeze it through.

This takes some muscles! Do not apply enough pressure to break the syringe. You want a drip approximately every three to six seconds, which is the optimum rate for a syringe filter. Filters will clog up, which happens faster if your rosin is very dark or thick. See an in-depth tutorial on just filtering THC vape juice here.

As the video points out, this is being done with low-quality, dense rosin. John is doing this by request to show it can be done. Lighter, higher-quality extracted rosin will be much easier to work with.

Step #5: Condense juice

condensing juice

Back to the hot plate with your filtered vial of juice. This time you want 160°F (71.1°C) for about half an hour. We’re doing this to burn off the excess terpenes that we used for processing in the previous step.

Step #6: Fill it into pods

filling pods

We’re finally ready to fill this THC juice into cartridges and call it a day. Heating up your mixture will make the liquid easier to work with – it tends to solidify when cooled. John here uses a CCell rig, which is an excellent choice.

The juice should be left to settle for a minimum of 15 minutes before you hit it for the first time. Best results are obtained letting it sit 24 hours.

Sidebar: Why we decarb

This bears emphasizing: THCA (Tetrahydrocannabinolic acid) will not get you high. Hence just chewing the raw plant doesn’t do anything. You have to apply heat in order to release the actual THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol). There are a number of methods to do this:

  • Smoking – Set it on fire, so easy a caveman can do it.
  • Dabbing rosin – Extract + high heat
  • Decarbing – Apply the heat without consuming it, producing a concentrate which contains THC freely.
  • Baking – You can simply bake weed, extract the THC using an edible oil solvent, and go from there straight to edibles.

Once the THCA has been treated with sufficient heat, it is now THC and effective no matter if you eat it, drink it, or vape it. Why do we have to decarb it to use in vape oil when we don’t have to decarb rosin to dab it? Because dabbing uses higher temperatures, where vaping uses very low amounts of heat. The heat from vaping isn’t enough to decarb it, just enough to turn the oil into a mist you can inhale.

We stress up front: There is a HUGE difference between an edible oil and vape oil. We go through the step of filtering below because vaping lipids is bad for you. When we mention above baking weed and extracting it using edible oil (typically coconut oil), it is also not safe to vape. The bottom line is that your stomach can withstand all kinds of roughage that your lungs are too delicate to handle.

Conclusion

From following this tutorial and the others we link to, you should now have a pretty clear picture of the entire production chain going from the raw plant to vape oil, and several other consumption methods besides. You can also see where things like shatter, which uses a solvent to extract the THC, makes sense now, since it’s less labor-intensive. Here is our guide to decarbing shatter, and another guide on making homemade vape juice.

You can also see where black market cartridges can be risky – it’s not just a matter of dishonest sellers, it’s a matter of the person filling the cartridges knowing what they’re doing. There’s many steps where something can go wrong.

For those of you playing along at home, discussion is welcomed in our comments or in our forums. Hope we’ve given you a comprehensive education! Our shout-out to HowToWeed for the video tutorial as always, and be sure to check out that channel for many other video guides.

Fuego Vape Pen Review: Tastes Like Flower And Hits Nicely

fuego vape review

The Fuego vape pen is an all-in-one dose pen filled with live resin sauce. The sauce is a small batch of full-spectrum distillate from premium craft cannabis. This premium cannabis is grown by experienced, licensed California cultivators. I believe the Fuego vape pen is fairly new. They are manufactured by Elite Molecular Inc. and I only find them available through Eaze. I believe they are only available in California.

Pros:

  • Excellent live-resin
  • Tastes complex like a fresh bud
  • Super nice high
  • Discreet design

Cons:

  • Small tank on the pen

Recommendations: I say a .5-gram tank would be perfect

The Fuego vape pen is really great overall

fuego vape pens
Fuego’s packaging is simple and bold

The pen is compact and it feels very substantial. The distillate is delicious and has a sweet floral aroma. This pen vapes smooth and decent sized clouds. Black letters spell “Fuego” along the length of the battery, for a discreet design.

The design doesn’t push any boundaries but it is very nice to hold

fuego vape pens
The pen design is sleek and easy to take big rips out of.

The pen seems mostly plastic but the battery is pleasantly heavy and feels really smooth to the touch. The Fuego vape pen feels like it’s made of marshmallow. The mouthpiece is about half the size of the tank and has the same soft feel as the battery. Fuego vape pens have a bright indicator light underneath that is visible in daylight.

The pen heats very evenly and doesn’t suffer from overheating

Fuego vape pens have a thick cover over their batteries. I thought the cover would make it overheat easier, but the pen never feels hot. The pen stays cool even if I take repeated hits. The vape is never too hot or harsh and the flavor comes.  through really well.

These pens have a very small tank that finishes quickly

I don’t like .25 gram tanks of any dose pens and Fuego is no exception. I smoke pretty heavily and I can empty a Fuego vape pen in about a day. It doesn’t help that the delicious live resin in Fuego vape pens makes it difficult to slow down. The pen is perfect in a pinch, but the size of the tank limits the pen in some situations.

The best part is the Fuego vape pen has amazing sauce quality

fuego vape pen
The sauce is amber in color and is terped really well

The distillate is a nice and clear golden brown color with excellent consistency. It isn’t as golden as some, but Fuego vape pen sauce is more well-rounded. It’s less runny and has a more natural taste to it. The sauce in Fuego vape pens doesn’t leave a chemical taste on the tongue like some distillates.

The live resin has exceptional flavor and tastes like flower

When I take a dose of my Fuego pen I taste flower. Fuego fills their pens with a full-spectrum sauce. Their high-end distillation process separates a broader range of cannabinoids and terpenes, giving the final product a wonderfully complex flavor. The fruity citrus and floral flavor remind me of a really good sun-grown Forbidden Fruit.

Fuego vapes have a very good high despite a relatively low potency

fuego vape pens

I didn’t expect my pen to give me an overwhelming high since it tested at 65% THC and I was right. The Feugo vape pen is not overwhelming but it is very potent. The high lasted about one and a half hours and it’s a nice even high. It’s physically and mentally relaxing, helping me coast through everything. If you want to try something similar with slightly more kick, Friendly Farms is a good choice.

Fuego pens are not expensive and they are an ok value

Fuego is less expensive despite having a similar-sized tank as other pens. However, the price-to-puffs ratio is more or less like DomPens but at a slightly cheaper price. Value is an issue for someone like me who can finish the pen in a day. And I think if I buy two Fuego pens at a time I’ll just smoke both the same day.

They have better value if you use them like a portable joint

fuego vape pens
They are very portable pens that last longer than most disposables

Fuego vape pens are perfect for irregular use. They are discreet and good to use on a busy weekend or a nice hike. They are compact enough to take to a wedding unnoticed. Fuego vape pens are joints but without the hassle of lighting and diminishing taste.

Longer hits mean bigger doses and fewer puffs

The packaging for Fuego vape pens suggests a 2-second pull is a dose. For me, that pull is too small and I take 4-second pulls. These pens are not for anyone who wants big puffy clouds, but I still get good-sized hits. I only have to take 2 nice hits and the high slowly sets in.

I would definitely buy Fuego again

The pen is disposable and plastic with a small tank. But the live-resin is worth the experience. The sauce in Fuego vape pens vapes smooth but it’s a fairly small amount. For 25$ Fuego pens offer premium live-resin with delicious taste. I am not going to buy these pens every day, but I will get them regularly for a quick sauce fix.

Concluding my review of Fuego vape pens

I had a great experience overall. I really enjoy the flavor of the sauce in Fuego vape pens. This pen fits well into anything I have to do throughout the day. I have an issue with the size of the tank, but that goes for every disposable with a .25 gram tank. With Fuego vape pens i pay for taste and that sauce is delicious, making the pen well worth the price.

Fuego doesn’t have a website as of finishing this review but you can check availability in your area with Eaze.

Couch Lock

0
couch lock

“Couch lock” is a term in stoner slang

It is the sensation of being physically relaxed to the point of sedation, as if you were incapable of getting up from the couch. It’s a feeling of mellowness, comfort, and relaxation. It brings about a deep-seated laziness. Some report it as feeling like you’re melting into the couch and your limbs weighing twice as much as normal.

Is Couch Lock Indica or Sativa?

Indica strains tend to have a reputation for couch lock. Sativa strains tend to be more energizing. Hybrids fall into this categorization too, being heavy on one side or the other of the divide. Note, however, that this is a general rule, with exceptions on both sides.

What makes Indica sedative?

Mostly it’s a matter of terpenes. There are several terpenes native to cannabis that are also sedatives on their own. Indica strains tend to carry more of them. But again, all cannabis strains tend to have some sedative effects, due to plain old THC.

Which strains are known for couch lock?

Super-potent Indicas have this reputation, including:

  • Fat Banana
  • Purple Queen
  • Royal Cookies
  • Critical Kush
  • Sherbet Queen
  • Sweet ZZ

How do I beat couch lock?

The biggest way to work against couch lock is to try strains noted for an energizing effect, to wit:

  •  Super Lemon Haze
  • Green Crack
  • Durban Poison
  • Sour Diesel
  • Jack Herer

You might also give some consideration to trying delta 8 THC instead! Delta 8 is the less potent THC alternative that still has psychoactive effects and binds to the same endocannabinoid receptors, but has a “less stony” effect. You can smoke delta 8 and still get things done.

In addition, you can take smaller hits or smoke less at a time. There’s always good old caffeine, which will help some. And in general, healthier living tends to get you back on your feet sooner.

Trichomes

0
trichomes on the surface of a plant

Trichomes are an aspect of plant morphology

Trichomes are best described as the “hair” growing on the outside of plants. These are present in plants, algae, and lichens. In cannabis strains, trichomes contribute to a fuzzy appearance, giving a flower an appearance of velvet, fur, or peach fuzz. The plant, functions as a layer of protection against insects and other animals who would eat the plant.

Trichomes make a difference in cannabis because the hair-like structures house most of the plant’s cannabinoids and terpenes in resin and kief.

What is the function of the trichomes?

Trichomes serve some of the same functions as hair and skin in the animal kingdom: They help plants stay warm and moist. If exposed to frost, trichomes keep the ice away from more crucial plant cells. They help trap moisture from dew and protect against heat and wind. And of course, since many terpenes serve as an insect repellent, it makes sense to distribute them in a hairy coating around the outside of the plant, where a pest will encounter it quickly before venturing further.

What is the difference between trichomes and kief?

Trichomes are tiny hair-like structures sticking out around the outside of the plant. Kief is the crystalized, powdery secretions from these trichomes, sort of like sap leaking from a tree. Kief sifted from flowers has traditionally been pressed into bricks called “hash.”

Do trichomes get you high?

They most certainly do, containing all the active ingredients of cannabis. They’re the part of the plant with the most concentration of the psychoactive compounds cannabis is famous for.

CANNABOLISH – Natural Cannabis Odor Removers

0

Cannabolish is a plant-based cannabis odor remover made with natural ingredients. It’s scientifically tailored to safely and effectively get rid of weed smell and destroy smoke odor molecules.

Location: OMI Industries

Tel: (888)-629-4842

Scientifically designed to eliminate smoke odor

The odor you smell in marijuana smoke comes from compounds made in the plant called terpenes or terpenoids. These smelly compounds can removed by introducing similar terpenes from other plant oils (like “fighting fire with fire”).
Cannabolish Products
They designed Cannabolish specifically to destroy the unique chemical makeup of weed smoke molecules. Their team of chemists and engineers use science that they have perfected over 30 years of removing the toughest odors around the world.

Keep your marijuana use discreet

Remove Marijuana Odor's
Remove unwanted smoke odor’s from Cannabis and Tobacco, instantly and naturally. Weed, Pot, Marijuana, Dope, it doesn’t matter what you call it, the smell from Cannabis smoke lingers long after the buzz. Enjoy a smoke sesh without having to worry about the heavy smoke odor that clings to our clothes, cars, and furniture.

Leave the odor, Take The High

Cannabolish Spray
Cannabolish use simple, pure, and natural ingredients – water; food grade surfactant; and a proprietary blend of plant oils, including wintergreen. It’s scientifically tailored to safely and effectively destroy smoke odor molecules. Cannabolish comes from natural plant oils and water, absorbing and removing odor’s without toxic ingredients.

The Power of Plant Oils

Science of Cannabolish
Illustrating how Cannabolish Destroys Odor Molecules
There’s a saying in chemistry that “like dissolves like.” A more common version of this saying is “fighting fire with fire.” The smelly terpene compounds in cannabis smoke can be cancelled out by introducing similar terpenes from plant oils. In other words, Cannabolish uses terpenes from plant oils to fight odor’s from terpenes.

Why use Cannabolish

In a study of ingredients, the Natural Resources Defence Council found high concentrations of Di-ethyl Phthalate (DEP) in several popular air fresheners. According to the study, “(exposure to phthalates) can alter hormone levels and cause other health problems.”

Many studies have shown that dangerous chemicals can hide behind “fragrance” on product labels. Others Products have toxic acetaldehyde. It’s best to avoid masking products that include “fragrance” or “scent.” Cannabolish does not use scents or masking perfumes. Instead, it relies on natural ingredients like plant oils and water.

How to Use the Spray and Candle to Remove Marijuana Odors

Other scented candles contain harmful chemicals that are released while burning and synthetic scents to cover up odors. Cannabolish is clean-burning soy candle which has natural plant oils — no paraffin wax, phthalates, sulfates, and parabens.

Remove Smells From Baking With Weed

Cannabis Oil and Butter
Remove Unwanted Cannabis Odor in your Kithen Using Cannabolish
The process of making canna-butter or canna-oil for use in edibles (pot brownies, anyone?) can cause odor’s throughout your kitchen and apartment. Turn on your stove vent, open windows and light up a Cannabolish candle while you cook. As you wait for your edibles to finish baking, spray away any remaining odors with Cannabolish spray.

Get Rid of Marijuana Smoke Smell in Cars

Pungent weed smell can linger in cars long after the smoke clears. Because of the nature of weed smoke, it can embed deep into vehicle interiors, including seats, carpet, dashboards, cloth ceilings, and air conditioning systems.
Traditional air fresheners — like those pine trees, aerosol sprays, or vent clips — can temporarily mask pot odors. But they’ll just come back as fragrances wear off.
Cannabolish 2oz spray bottle
The Cannabolish 2oz bottle is very handy
Stash a 2 oz. bottle of Cannabolish weed smell spray in your center console or glove compartment. It’s scientifically-designed blend was developed specifically to neutralize the odor molecules fro cannabis smoke. Just pump a few sprays in your air vents, on your seats and carpets, and in the air. Turn on your AC, and let it do the rest.

Dompen Review: Smooth High And Tasty Oil

dompen review

Dompen is a dose pen filled with a THC distillate and flavored with terpenes. They are most known for the flavor and quality of their oil. Dompen was founded in Los Angeles in 2015. They use an ethanol extraction method on exclusive pesticide-free cultivated cannabis to remove unwanted biomass from their oil. This oil is then triple distilled to yield a premium, solvent-free distillate with a deep and clear amber color. They are available all over California.

Pros:

  • The oil has a great taste
  • The pen is super sleek and discreet
  • Decent sized clouds per dose

Cons:

  • The thin design causes the oil to occasionally spew from the mouthpiece

Licensing Information:

Recommendations: Maybe shorten the battery and extend the mouthpiece to avoid buildup

Licensing Information: Dompen C11-0000188-LIC

Overall Dompen is a very good THC vape pen

dompen vapes
Dompen disposable dose pens come in sturdy packaging.

Dompen excels at the disposable pen game with a sleek shiny design and excellent oil quality. The pens are light and very evenly balanced because they’re made of metal. Also, compared to the average dose pen, Dompens offer a larger amount of oil. This is definitely the pen for someone who wants to be able to make some decent sized clouds. For this Dompen review, I tested the pineapple coast flavor, of which the oil gives a hybrid effect.

The design is standard with sleek presentation

dompen vapes
Sleek design, easy to use.

Dompens have a nice metallic sheen to them. The tank is inside the pen just below the plastic mouthpiece. There are three holes on the front and back of the pen where you can see the tank. I’m not sure if Dompen has a glass or plastic tank. The indicator light is a white plastic cap at the bottom of the pen. It shines green when you puff and is visible in daylight.

Dompen handles my constant smoking very well

This pen has a very solid build compared to most disposable pens. The Leune is similar to Dompen, except that it’s way smaller and heats up quicker. Dompens are larger than most disposables so they don’t heat up as quickly. It doesn’t heat up unless I take a lot of quick puffs and even then it’s not very much.

I can achieve some pretty dense clouds

Dompens are about double the length of most disposable vapes. I get really thick clouds each 3-second dose. Dompen is perfect If you want dense clouds like Dime but a smoother vape. I smoke it repeatedly because I love making clouds and It doesn’t overheat quickly.

Tank size on the Dompen is double the size of many disposable pens

Many disposable pens have a .25 gram (250ml) tank. Dompens have .5 gram (500ml) tanks and it lasts longer than most disposables. I like to take a couple of doses at a time and the double size tank is really great for that. If you want a pen that lasts an extra day or two over most this one is perfect.

Super thin mouthpiece on the Dompen causes oil to build up a little

With a super-thin design, Dompen also has a super-thin mouthpiece. The thinness of the mouthpiece makes the oil build up easier. I only notice it because some oil came out of the Dompen once. Even pens with larger more ventilated mouthpieces like the ones on Heavy Hitters occasionally get oil buildup so it is not bad. It is worth mentioning though.

Dompen has a fantastic distillate overall

dompen vapes

Dompen extraction process yields an oil that has a broad range of cannabinoids and has minimal plant matter. They purify the oil further by triple distilling it to remove the remaining plant matter. Dompen’s solvent-free distillate is not harsh on my nose or throat and vapes flavorful and clean.

The flavor of pineapple coast is mild but delicious

The pineapple coast Dompen has a great flavor. Every puff has a noticeable but mild taste of pineapple. Dompen’s distillate tastes less sweet than other brands. Since it tastes less sweet, the flavor is less potent but more natural than other brands. If you want similar but sweeter flavors Kurvana is a great choice.

Dompen oil potency is decent and gives a nice high

dompen vapes
The oil is a clear amber color.

Pineapple coast is a hybrid flavor that affects the body and mind. Dompen says their distillate tests at 70% THC on their website and the packaging doesn’t show percentages. The high feels like it’s leaning more towards sativa and it has a nice cerebral effect. I get a strong high that keeps me focused without losing my motor functions. Dompen gives me an appetite boost. This pen is perfect for a quick walk and some snacks.

Efficiency is standard for disposable pens

From the holes on my Dompen I can see the amount of oil left in the tank. The tank is nearly empty but the pen still hits really well. The battery lasted enough for me to vape all the oil and that’s as good as it gets.

I would definitely buy this pen again

The pen is sleek nice and has tasty distillate. It has a tank that is double the size of most dose pens and lasts much longer. The taste is not as sweet but more natural tasting than other flavored dose pens. Dompen’s high is not too intense and hits just the right amount per dose. Definitely worth testing other flavors.

Concluding this Dompen review

Dompen is a sleek dose pen with delicious fruity distillates. The pen is double the size of other disposables on the market but is only 10$ more. The distillate vapes smooth and the flavors are mild. A small amount of oil comes out of the top, but it only happens once or twice. Overall, the pen offers great value for a smooth experience.

You can visit the Dompen website to find out more about availability in your area.

The Entourage Effect

0

The entourage effect is an aspect of cannabis consumption

The entourage effect is a term coined by a group of scientists that include renowned Israeli biochemist Dr. Raphael Mechoulam. It is the result of cannabis compounds interacting with each other. These compounds include THC, CBD, cannabinoids, flavonoids, and terpenes. Taking just one organic compound will produce a smaller effect, but all of them together multiply their effects together and contribute to the unique feel of being “stoned.” These interactions alter the overall effects of smoking cannabis. For example, some terpenes intensify sedative effects when they interact with THC.

Varying terpene profiles in cannabis may be the main reason why some strains affect people differently than others. How each person’s biology is different could be why compound interactions give some people different highs with the same strain.

The entourage effect is still theoretical and all of the information out there is proposed as such. Further study should be done on the effect of different compounds, their interactions with each other and cannabis users. Since cannabis prohibition has greatly inhibited research, we have some catching-up to do in this field.
