Best Cartridges For Illinois 2023: Top THC Oil Vape Carts

0
illinois best cartridges

Here we list the best cartridges in Illinois for 2023. Specifically, we’ll focus more on THC oil vape cartridges, usually prefilled with distillate and terpenes. With many brands coming out with new cartridges, it may be difficult to determine which one is the best in the market.

This list is compiled based on products (cartridges) that have actually been tested and reviewed. Or based on our reviewer’s everyday experience living in Chicago. We’ll keep adding more carts to it as we test more out.

You may also want to check out our best lists for California and Nevada. As always, DabConnection never has paid placements. May the best dab carts win.

Our best THC carts list for Illinois 2023

On this best cartridge list, we are not declaring a single winner since there are so many great and potent carts out. Many of these cartridges will vary in pricing and strength. Along with that, there still are many more cartridges that we have yet to try. We will keep adding more brands/cartridges as we continue to review and test them throughout the years.

Nature’s Grace Joos disposable: Flavorful, strong, and affordable

nature's grace joos disposable pen review
Although Nature’s Grace Joos disposables provide strong and tasteful hits, they’re only .3G’s of oil.

Nature’s Grace Joos disposable is one of the few inexpensive and potent disposables we found here in Illinois. You can find them for around $30-$35 (before tax) in many dispensaries. And they do deliver great flavor and strength. Although they are only .3Gs, Joos disposable pens give a nice and lasting high. For its price, I find it to be great value if you want a quick, easy-to-use, and cheap disposable.

The Joos disposable we picked up was around 86% THC. The oil is slightly dark and dense, and also It gives nice strength all throughout the pen. But I should mention that they’re not the most efficient. When you’re almost done with the disposable, you can never finish the little bit of oil that’s left inside them. It may not be a lot, but after a few disposables, that little bit of oil does accumulate. And no one wants to waste any of their concentrates.

See our Nature Grace’s Joos disposable review for more info.

Verano Travelers: One of the most tasteful and potent disposables

verano travelers disposable review

Verano Travelers disposable provides strong and flavorful hits. These disposables are .3G’s, just like Nature’s Grace Joos, and go for around $40-$50. Although they are pricier, the quality of the oil makes them well worth it. Verano is a well-known brand that people know for their quality and potency.

The particular disposable we tried it at 74% THC, but it does feel a lot more potent. With just a few hits, you get a nice high with lasting effects. And as for the flavor, it is very smooth and tasteful. But just like most disposables, they aren’t as efficient as cartridges. As you’re almost done with it, you can’t finish the little bit of oil left. In my experience, Verano Travelers is more efficient than Nature’s Grace Joos, I was able to smoke more oil with Verano.

See our in-depth review of Verano Travelers disposable here.

IESO: Smooth and flavorful cartridge, fair strength

ieso cartridge review

I was debating whether to add the Cultivate IESO cartridge, just because it isn’t as potent and is somewhat pricey. But the quality of the oil does taste very clean and tasteful. Along with that, it’s way more efficient than the disposables mentioned earlier. The price is $50, before tax, and these are only half-gram carts. But for Illinois, this isn’t bad in price in comparison to the prices of other half-gram cartridges.

See our in-depth review of the IESO cartridge here.

Cresco Labs Carts

Cresco is known for having one of the best carts in Illinois. Their carts are strong and tasty and they have many subbrands like Sunny Side and Good News.

You can check out our review of a Good News cart here.

Aeriz Carts

Aeriz Carts are known for their consistency and high quality. You can find out more about these carts here.

Bedford Grow Carts

These carts are known for being high quality but they are also very expensive, a cart could go for even 80 dollars. You can find out more about these carts here.

As of now, prices for cartridges and tax in Illinois are pricey (August 2023)

As of 2023, after looking through Weedmaps and multiple dispensaries, We have noticed that almost all half-gram carts are $50-$80 in Illinois. Prices will vary depending on location and dispensaries. But that is the average price for just half a gram, a full-gram cartridge can go from $60 to even over $100. This is pretty expensive, in Cali you can find many good cartridges for half the price.

Along with this, taxes are currently very high compared to other states. According to the Illinois Department of Revenue, taxes are currently 10% for anything below 35% THC and 25% for anything above 35% THC. When I purchased the IESO cartridge, I ended up paying around $13 in total taxes. Hopefully, the prices and taxes here in IL drop soon.

Fake cartridges that have been spotted

There are many fake cartridges in Illinois and also unregistered black market brands. Many of them can be found all over the Midwest, in states where both cannabis is legal and illegal.

Even though recreational use is legal in IL, there are still a lot of unregulated, black-market cartridges being distributed. They may be a lot cheaper than going to get a cartridge in a dispensary, but you can never be sure what’s actually in them. Often the actual dollar per high cost is higher from the black market because many of the carts are weak.

Here’s a list of a few fake and black-market cartridges I found here in IL so far:

Concluding the Illinois best cartridges list

There will always be new brands and new vape cartridges coming out within the cannabis market. There are still many cartridges we have yet to review and test out. As of now, carts are pricey in the state of IL along with taxes. Hopefully, this post gives you a little guidance if you plan on purchasing a cartridge.

The Cheapest Cartridges in California

0
California-cheapest-vapes

We get it, cannabis can be expensive. We were all yelling for legalized marijuana going back as far as, well, since it was prohibited, and we always said we’d gladly pay taxes on it. Well, we got our wish! It’s recreation-legal in about 1/3rd of the US, medically legal in about another 1/3rd, and by golly it is taxed to the harvest moon!

Since price can be a factor of concern to the common stoner, especially during the economic fallout of a global pandemic, we’re going to round up the cheapest THC cartridges in each major legalized state. We’re doing this both with dispensary research, and polling individual users.

California seems a logical place to start. It’s in the top ten most expensive states to live in, while five of its major cities (San Diego, Oakland, San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Jose) are in the top ten most expensive US cities to live in. With all that expense on your wallet, it’s only natural that you’d look to cut costs wherever you can, including your weed budget.

So, we find these THC cartridge brands to consistently be the most price-slashing budget brands in the state:

Papa’s Herb

cheapest-carts_Papas-Herb

Price range: $15 / 0.5G – $25 / 1G distillate

Our review of Papa’s Herb here

Behind the slightly geeky visage of the Papa mascot lies an unpretentious cart which packs in the value where it counts. We found Papa’s Herb cartridges to be potent distillate with outstanding flavor. While the cart hardware is nothing to write home about, it lets you have decent hits. The cartridge is efficient and vapes all the oil to the last drop. Papa’s Herb is a popular brand you won’t have too hard a time finding, and with value like this, it’s no wonder why!

Honeyleaf

cheapest-carts_Honeyleaf

Price range: $30 / 0.5G live resin; $14.53 / 0.5G – $20.99 / 1G distillate

We have yet to review Honeyleaf (added to our TODO)

Not only is Honeyleaf one of the more budget-friendly brands we find, but they have a wide variety of products available including live resin as well as distillate. The cheaper prices on Honeyleaf may only be at certain dispensaries we’re finding, but they’re out there.

Dime Bag

cheapest-carts_Dime-Bag

Price range: $30 / 1G distillate

Our review of Dime Bag here

Dime Bag is the last name in budget cartridges. While the price is very reasonable, the quality isn’t going to be stellar on any front, between taste, potency, or hardware. Think of them as “cartridges if Dollar Tree sold them.” For a bonus if you’re into dabs, check out our review of Dime Bag live resin sugar, which had much higher marks in value while still keeping a budget-friendly price of $25 / 1G.

Woodstock

cheapest-carts_Woodstock

Price range: $16 / 0.5G distillate

Our review of Woodstock here

Despite its Boomer-era aesthetics and jazzy packaging, Woodstock is an unbelievably inexpensive cartridge that manages to have decent flavor and potency, and didn’t even cheap out on the hardware build quality too much. Our reviewer got them for $13 each in April of 2021, which wasn’t even a special promo. They may not always be easy to find, but at prices like these they’re worth tracking down.

Fun Uncle

cheapest-carts_Fun-Uncle

Price range: $18 / 1G distillate

Our review of Fun Uncle here

The average price we see for Fun Uncle is $30 / gram, but they are not unheard-of in Cali for $20 prices. The $18 / 1G might be a rare low, but it goes to show what a reasonably-priced brand it can be. Our reviewer got them for $16 in August of 2021. Fun Uncle, for yet another thrifty brand with a whimsical name, makes distillate cartridges with added terpenes. They’ve got excellent taste and potency packed into decent quality hardware. Our reviewer rated them among the best budget brands he’d tried, and our man in Cali doesn’t throw that praise around lightly.

Old Pal

cheapest-carts_Old-Pal

Price range: $17 / 0.5G – $8 / disposable pen – $32 1G distillate

Our review of Old Pal here

Old Pal is the poster child for no-frills vape brands that have decent quality for a budget price. It’s well-established, not that hard to find, and is consistently the budget brand at most dispensaries. Not only does Old Pal impress us once we get it home, but we had to put Old Pal on our best cartridges lists for both California and Nevada! The fact that a brand can stand toe to toe with the top of the line while being one of the cheapest cartridges out there tells you all you need to know about Old Pal. Go try one, at least to say you have.

Five Weed Myths Stoners Need To Stop Repeating

0
weed-party

Here at DabConnection, we are naturally champions for legalizing and normalizing cannabis usage. But of course, weed culture does bring with it a modicum of responsibility. Remember, in the days before cannabis legalization, we stoners were pledging how responsibly we would behave if legalization went through.

So, while the myths about weed outside the stoner camp are still a far larger problem than within, we do still see a call for moderating our own ranks. If you’re a stoner, a medical marijuana user, or just an ally of same, and you find yourself repeating any of these myths, please check your information and stop it. Misinformation about cannabis doesn’t do anyone any favors, even if it’s in advocacy of cannabis.

barewoods pre roll joint blunt california

[Myth 1.] Weed Isn’t Addicting

When people say this, they should be qualifying it as “it isn’t physically addicting.” That is, unlike drugs like heroin or nicotine or even alcohol, abstaining from THC after prolonged usage does not produce physical withdrawal symptoms.

But let’s knock it off. OF COURSE, weed is addicting! People can get addicted to anything, even non-chemical habits like gambling, video games, social media, and porn. You might have a psychological addiction to cannabis if you find yourself unable to deal with the stresses of life without a hit first. Anything that you are dependent upon to make it through the day is an addiction; cannabis is no different.

Since I am a heavy user, partly for professional reasons, I can also see some signs in myself of a cannabis dependency. For instance, I notice if I abstain for two days, I find that I’m more prone to slight irritability over trivial annoyances. This appears to be a result of my getting so used to being stoned all the time that I’m used to having that chemical buffer keeping me mellow – without it, I have to raw-dog life and re-discover how easily some minor peeve gets under my skin. It’s not serious, like withdrawal symptoms from other substances are, and I’m back to normal after another day of abstinence, but it’s still there.

[Myth 2.] You Can’t Overdose On Cannabinoids

Yes, Virginia, there is such a thing as a cannabis overdose. It may be non-lethal, but symptoms of a weed overdose include nausea, vomiting, panic attacks, poor coordination, mental confusion, and even hallucinations. If you’re a heavy stoner, you’ve likely overdosed without even realizing it. In my professional capacity as a reviewer of cannabis products, as well as being a regular user, I am certain that I have overdosed a time or two.

This point deserves underlining now that we’re producing all these candy-gummy-infused cannabis products that can appeal to children. There have already been incidents where toddler-age children have gotten into the adult’s edibles. Even if it’s not lethal, it’s still damned unpleasant and can have long-reaching consequences. Let’s just say “better safe than sorry” and keep the weed goodies out of the reach of children, just as we would alcohol and tobacco.

[Myth 3.] Weed Doesn’t Give You a Hangover

This statement is often made in comparison to alcohol. While an alcohol hangover has different symptoms, cannabis has its own kind of hangover. In fact, anything you feel the next morning after partying on any substance counts as a hangover.

In both my experience and reports I read from others, a cannabis hangover is a foggy mental state, accompanied by tiredness, sluggishness, dehydration, and headache. It clears away about an hour after waking, and my usual cup of morning espresso wipes that out even faster.

Cheech and Chong suck

[Myth 4.] It’s OK To Drive Stoned

It is true that weed doesn’t seem to be as debilitating as many other psychoactive substances, but let’s not fool ourselves either. You can get so baked that you’re not safe to drive. Marijuana effects include impairment of coordination, concentration, memory, and judgment. There is indeed a correlation between legalized weed and increased traffic incidents, especially when mixed with other substances like alcohol. Why take the chance?

Luckily, cannabis doesn’t seem to make people as foolhardy and confident as alcohol, so I do see where most stoners exhibit caution in not driving while high. That’s great, keep it up! Besides, you don’t really want to go places stoned; you want to be a couch critter with snacks and video games.

[Myth 5.] You Can Use Weed Every Day With No Problem

Yet we stoners regularly bandy about the term “tolerance break.” So we see that the first problem with using weed every day is that it decreases the effectiveness of weed. Listen, I’m a hardcore stoner over here, but even I take a day off the stuff occasionally. Everybody should, not just to manage tolerance, but in the interest of leading a sane, non-dependent lifestyle. The worst path of weed abuse is the stoner who tries to stay stoned all day every day. Try that for a week, and you will feel like weed stopped being any fun at all, and has no more effect on you after a while than if you were popping a multivitamin.

Not only is this a problem because you’re spending money on weed that isn’t hitting the same anymore, but it’s also an issue with your body’s health. Cannabis works by plugging into the endocannabinoid system, which is also responsible for regulating many bodily functions. Heavy overuse of cannabis can cause cannabis hyperemesis syndrome. Even though that’s a rare condition, it does go to show that it’s possible to wreck your endocannabinoid system to the point of irreparable damage to your body.

Seriously, folks, anything you do in excess can be a problem. Even water can kill you if you drink too much at once, which is why sports drinks with added electrolytes exist. Like anything else, you can overdo weed. Cannabis should be treated as a delightful refreshment after you’ve tended to the day’s tasks, or only for occasional all-day use on your day off, part of a healthy and productive lifestyle. Seek balance in all things, that is the way to a happier life.

A Word About Modern Potency

We should also be aware, even though there has never been a recorded death attributable to cannabis in the history of cannabis use, that much of that history has occurred during a time when cannabis was just a half-cultivated plant you smoked. Only in the past few decades, with the advent of legalization, have we taken to pulling crazy stunts like isolating one altcan and stuffing 1000MG of it into a distillate cartridge and vaping it. Even that hasn’t killed anybody directly – yet!

But we are in a pioneering phase of new cannabinoid discoveries. We are all playing with new and experimental ways to consume cannabis that nobody ever tried before. As history has shown, we have a distressing habit of trying something for forty years and then discovering, whoops, this has long-term consequences we never could have guessed. I am predicting that it is likely, given the hundreds of possible cannabinoid/isomer/acetate/terpene combinations, that we will eventually uncover some formulation that is more harmful than the natural state of the plant as she grows and smokes.

It is also true that modern cultivation produces stronger weed, nobody argues that. However, that fact has given rise to the idea that “Old people should be more careful smoking weed from a dispensary because it’s more potent than what they used to smoke.” And yes, since I run around sporting a long white goatee that has become my trademark, I am occasionally amused to see the looks of concern among Gen-Z when I leave the dispensary after buying enough weed to tranquilize an elephant. However, you kids are missing a point here: We old folks are being more careful with the dosage because we’re getting high in a few bong rips whereas before we had to smoke some four blunts just to feel anything. The weed was weaker then; so we just did more of it in one sitting.

Regardless, everybody should approach the modern cannabis scene at their own pace. The regular D9THC weed is more potent, but the harsh, isolated cannabinoids we’re putting into vape cartridges and edibles are also several times the potency of that same cannabinoid found in regular weed.

As always, apply some common sense. Readers, share the weed myths you’ve encountered within stoner culture here in the comments or in our hotboxed forum.

Fleur Flower Review – Fresh and Well-cured

fleur flower review

This week we will take a look at some Bushido OG flower from Fleur. Fleur’s take on the Bushido OG is a Sativa Dominant Hybrid with the promise to Uplift right on the front of the package. I was excited to open this one up because the packaging was pleasant and the buds inside looked delicious. Let’s see if it lived up to my expectations.

Pros:

  • No pesticides, fungicides, or synthetic fertilizers
  • Very fresh and well cured (packaged same month as consumption)
  • Easy to open, easy to handle
  • Medium-sized hairy nugs
  • Fast and heady high

Cons:

  • Smelled better than it tasted
  • 1g is not enough

Recommendations: None

fleur flower package

Eye-catching packaging

This was my first time trying any products from Fleur and I was not disappointed. The packaging was colorful and stylish while still being easy to open and reseal. I like that Fleur puts it right on the front that there are no synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, or fungicides involved in their growing and cultivation process. I care about the experience more, but it is nice to know I’m not micro-dosing poisons every time I spark up, flower already does enough damage to my lungs.

fleur flower close

Fresh, well-cured flower

I can not exaggerate my excitement upon opening this flower. As soon as the seal broke, my immediate area was flooded with a sweet piney scent that had me prepared to dig in. When I took a look a the buds I was surprised at just how perfect the cure was. Most of us know how annoying it can be getting some puny or brittle old nugs from a dispensary, but this Bushido OG was packaged mere weeks before consumption. The buds were a good size, covered in little orange hairs and so, so fluffy without being over-moist. I couldn’t wait to grind some up and smoke.

fleur flower details back

A surprising taste

The Fleur Bushido OG ground up very nicely. The trichomes came out to play and everything looked delectable, then I lit up. The taste was markedly different than the aroma. I was expecting something light and piney with some of the fruity floral notes I was picking up earlier, instead, I got a pine bark and cut grass kind of taste that threw me off. It’s not the skunkiest strain ever, but the disparity between scent and taste may be off-putting to some.

fleur flower pipe

Fast and heady high

After I got over the taste I realized I was pretty baked. I felt like I smoked a heavy hitter that only posed as a fresh and light strain. The terpene profile with a-pinene at 15.4 and the THC at a respectable 27.8 should have hinted at that, but I was distracted by the packaging. Now it got me high quickly, but did it uplift me? The answer is a resounding YES. I was creative and energized. Could I watch a movie and sit on my ass? Yes, but I would recommend this strain for when you want to be social, and creative, or get chores done without being miserable. This is a Sativa-dominant hybrid that delivers a punch but provides you with the energy and mood to handle it.

fleur flower details

A well-cured Sativa-dominant hybrid that delivers

My only complaint beyond the surprise ACV taste is that 1g is not enough. I went through this quickly and went right back out and got a 1/8 just because. This will be my new get-shit-done strain when I don’t have any green crack around. At $10 a gram and $35 an 1/8, it’s reasonably priced and the product you get is superior to the of the older poorly cured bargain brands, so it’s worth it. If you’re able to, go pick some up and tell me what you think!

Infused Flower

0

In pharmacology, to infuse is the action of immersing some organic substance in a hot liquid without boiling it so that its soluble parts dissolve and thus obtain a mixture of both substances.

In the case of infused cannabis flowers, it is somewhat similar, although not exactly as the concept of infusion defines it according to pharmacology.

Infusing a cannabis flower generally means dipping, spraying, coating, or sprinkling with some other natural compound, usually another cannabinoid or terpene, in order to reap the added benefits of said compound. It is very common nowadays to find hemp flowers for sale infused with other cannabinoids.

So, if you want to know what exactly an infused flower is and what possible benefits you could obtain from them, you are in the right post. We will start with the most common infused flowers to find today.

WHAT IS HHC INFUSED FLOWER?

As the name suggests, an HHC-infused flower is a cannabis flower, usually hemp, rich in CBD or CBG, infused with HHC distillate, isolate, or oil. HHC is a relatively new cannabinoid that has been skyrocketing in popularity lately.

HHC is something of a middle ground between CBD and THC, producing milder effects than Delta-8 but more potent than CBD. The effects of HHC are full-bodied and can provide a comforting feeling of mental relaxation, but like THC, HHC may also produce a euphoric feeling.

HHC does not occur naturally in high concentrations in the cannabis flower but is made from hemp-derived CBD. Therefore, you will not find HHC-rich natural cannabis flowers but CBD or CBG flowers covered with a layer of HHC distillate. HHC does not contain any type of THC, unlike Delta-8, Delta-9, and Delta-10. Therefore, HHC has a slight legal advantage compared to the other cannabinoids already mentioned.

WHAT IS DELTA-8 INFUSED FLOWER?

A Delta-8 infused flower is generally a hemp flower covered with Delta-8 THC distillate, either in powder or oil form. Like HHC, Delta-8 occurs naturally in hemp plants but only in trace amounts, which makes it hard to extract naturally without spending a fortune.

That’s why researchers have found a way to create Delta-8 from CBD. Most Delta-8-infused hemp flower you’ll find on the market is made using CBD-derived Delta-8.

The process of converting CBD to Delta-8 involves a few chemicals that can be potentially harmful to you if it’s not done properly. That’s why you always have to buy Delta-8 flowers from reliable vendors like us, who thoroughly lab test our Delta-8 distillate before infusing it into our hemp flower.

BENEFITS OF INFUSED HEMP FLOWER

One of the main benefits of infused hemp flower is that in addition to the benefits of the cannabinoid used to infuse the flowers, you also get the benefits that hemp flower already carries with it.

Hemp flowers are generally rich in CBD, a cannabinoid that appears to be linked to health benefits such as:

  • Promotes stress reduction
  • Promotes a calm state
  • Promotes better sleep
  • Promotes pain relief
  • Helps reduce inflammation

Added to CBD’s benefits, we would obtain the benefits of the cannabinoid with which our CBD flower is infused. In the case of infusing hemp flower with Delta-8, we would get benefits such as a powerful ability to relieve anxious thoughts, improved concentration, focus, and appetite, and better sleep patterns.

In the case of infusing the hemp flower with HHC, we would obtain the benefits of CBD combined with those of HHC, ranging from relief of pain, inflammation, and anxiety, to psychoactive effects similar to those of THC but milder and somewhat more sedative and relaxing effects, compared to those of the Delta-8.

Added to this, another advantage of infused hemp flowers is that they enhance the entourage effect. This term refers to a theory that all the natural components of cannabis (cannabinoids, terpenes, flavonoids) work together best when combined and deliver a more balanced effect.

It’s said that cannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids boost each other’s performance, and the effects that each of these compounds can generate individually can develop better.

HOW TO INFUSE CANNABIS

Cannabis-infused products are the order of the day, and there is now a wide variety of cannabis-containing products to choose from.

But what’s even better, in addition to the fact that you can get pre-made products everywhere, you can also get a ton of different cannabis-infused recipes online that you can make in the comfort of your own home.

You can find recipes that range from edibles like your own CBD-infused honey to skin products like CBD-infused lip balm.

The good thing about making these recipes at home is that you can intervene in each part of the process and tailor the product to your needs. For example, if you want a cannabis product that generates uplifting, mood-enhancing, or energizing effects, you can make your recipe using varieties such as Lifter or Sour Lifter.

If you want more relaxing effects, choose an Indica variety and use Bubba Kush or a similar crop. If you are looking for more balanced effects, you can use hybrid varieties such as Sour Space Candy or its more lemony, sour variant, the Super Sour Space Candy, to spice up your recipe.

By making your recipes this way, you will realize how fun and useful it can be to have control in each phase of the preparation of your infusions since you will end up with a product entirely made according to your preferences or needs.

hfh duo review

I was excited to receive this product, the Body Care Duo from High Falls Hemp. I ordered it for my debilitating skin condition which is painful and needs lubricant. The Ultimate Body Care CBD Duo is listed on their website as $74.90.

The cream

I also play the harp with a bad wrist that gets tired and cranky sometimes. I believed the arnica in these products would be soothing for me. It is. It is working miracles on both fronts. The skin cream is transforming the tough skin patches that bury ingrown hairs in my face. The skin cream is also addressing the pain that comes with this affliction. I’m thrilled. It has such a delightful texture. My skin feels hydrated after I apply the lotion – silky.

Tincture

The tincture is nice, not delicious but smooth and palatable. It works. I also have a tooth that is cracking. I have experienced some prolonged pain from that. The arnica has killed the pain. I just noticed this morning, “Oh yeah. My tooth hasn’t bothered me for days.”

This isn’t a product I can get readers to jump up and down about. The packaging is simple, it doesn’t get you high. But it is effective every time. That is priceless.

I did quite a bit of reading on High Falls Hemp’s website. There is a plethora of detailed information there. I went down a rabbit hole about terpenes. I’d recommend it. TYSON 2.0 Flower Review – Fragrant and Tasty

tyson flower review

Today I got a 1/8th of Roller Pigeon by TYSON 2.0 (Redwood Cultivations) and it’s fantastic. Packing that Tyson punch, the high comes on fast. I felt happy and euphoric and time seemed to just glide along. These nicely packaged buds had a nice bounce. No mummy dust here! When consuming my joint, about 1/2 got me there and lasted for hours.

With a THC level at 26.95% and an incredible array of terpenes made this a very flavorful experience.  Something in the way of a spicy sandalwood taste that set the vibe for the room. As someone came in after I’d consumed and asked what incense I was burning? That is a quality product right there. The price of $40 is totally fair for the product and I will use this brand again.

Pros:

  • Nice packaging, love the glass jar
  • Buds are just the right size, with no extra stem
  • Great Smell
  • Very stony
  • Smooth taste

Cons:

  • I don’t have an endless supply in my home, really, I cannot find anything wrong here

I am so thrilled to have picked up this quality product. The complement of terpenes makes it not only fragrant but tasty as well! Whoever is growing and curing this flower needs an award. I’m a very critical person, and I cannot find one thing wrong with this flower, keep up the good work and I’ll keep looking for your product.

tyson flower jar

The High was Great

After consuming one joint (took me about an hour to finish) I was good for 3 hours on the go. At no point did I feel the need to seek out a place to sneak a hit out in the world. This Amazing, bubbly high kept my mood good and the pain at bay. I got in about 4 miles of walking and it was a little windy, and I  did not care, that’s how good a mood it put me into. Thank you, Tyson, you knocked out all my troubles today!

tyson flower details

Value for the product, Just Right!

At $40 per 1/8th, heck yes would I pick up this flower again? I may just have to make it my new #1 go-to,  as the high last longer and I smoke less in a day, win win I say!

tyson flower close up

Will I be picking up this flower again soon?

I’m going to be looking everywhere for the flower by TYSON 2.0, Roller Pigeon  (what’s in a name?) This is a product I will pick up again soon. From the moment I looked at the jar, I could see it was going to be quality. The sparkly buds called out to me, so I opened the jar. I was overcome with an amazing aroma of spice and sandalwood. The wonderfully cured buds were just the right size. Sometimes they give you giant buds like it’s impressive.

Impressive stem and TYSON 2.0 seems to get it. Cured to perfection too, not dry, not wet, and just a bit sticky/tacky to the touch. This potent flower sure took me to a nice high that was fun, euphoric, and very upbeat. I felt like no one could get me down, and as I was on the Las  Vegas City bus, no one bothered me, I just did not care. I’m good with that!  Can’t wait to try their other strains in the future.

ViVANT Vault SE Battery Review – Modern and Discreet

vivant vault se battery review

This week we will take a look at the ViVANT Vault SE. The Vault SE is a special edition flask 510 threaded battery for oil lovers that claims to combine the advantages of both the VAULT and VAULT mini. The Vault SE comes in a small box along with 2 510-threaded magnetic connectors, one longer and one short, a USB-C Cable, and one quick guide instruction booklet. Let’s get into it!

Pros:

  • Great taste on both settings
  • Discreet and portable
  • Updated build with USB-C Charger
  • Customizable

Cons:

  • The low setting isn’t worth having
  • Not great for .5g Cartridges because the longer magnetic connector insert wouldn’t work properly

Recommendations: Some improvements to the magnetic connector would be great.

vivant vault se battery lineup

Elegant and ergonomic design

The ViVANT Vault SE flask has a curved design that fits nicely into your hand, filling your thumb’s natural curve. Black is always a classic look and the placement of the button and corresponding heat levels on top make this battery sleek and stylish.

vivant vault se

Maintains great taste on both settings, so who needs low?

The Vault SE has two power levels, low (red light) and high (green light). You can cycle through these settings by double-clicking the sole button on top of the Vault SE. The low setting might be geared toward those looking to savor the terpene flavors without getting too stoned. After using this battery for a while, I found it was kind of a waste using the lower setting. The high setting still has a good flavor and after it gets warmed up, you can blow some big billowy clouds. I didn’t return to using the low setting after initial testing, but at least there’s always the option to take it slow for those looking for lighter hits.

vivant vault se battery box content

Modernized build

The Vault SE is a USB-C charging battery with a built-in 350mAh battery. I have thrown out all of my old micro USB batteries and cords and I do not miss them at all, they are obsolete. The Vault SE features a magnetic connection for 510-threaded oil cartridges. There are two inserts of varying lengths for differently-sized cartridges. The problem I ran into was that I was using a 0.5g cartridge that required the longer insert to be able to put your lips to the mouthpiece, however, I could not make this connection work. There was a small booklet for instructions, but I still couldn’t get it to fit properly. The smaller insert along with a 1g cartridge worked perfectly without having to find a finicky fit. Everything slid in easily and hit nicely.

vivant vault se battery unit

Discreet portability

The Vault SE measures 43mm X 60mm X 15mm and is 11mm in diameter. The Oil Level is easily viewed via a stylish cut-out in the flask over the cartridge only on the backside. The heat levels are button activated, however, the Vault SE does have an auto-draw feature, so you can take it out and hit it quickly without your companions being any the wiser.

vault se specs
Specs

Add your logos for sleek personalization

One cool feature of the Vault SE is that there is a good-sized area left blank for you to customize. Aside from the ViVANT logo along the bottom of the front side, there are no other markings. The cut-out where you can view the oil level is only on the back side, so you have a nice little area on the front to etch in a logo of your business or whatever Fandom you want to represent.

vivant vault se battery box

A solid battery for those that prefer the flask design

Other than the problems I had with the larger magnetic connector, this is a really good battery. I didn’t like the low setting, but it always worked and the high setting more than made up for what I was missing with the low setting. The flask design looks and feels really cool, but I prefer to be able to get at the thread of the cartridge in case there’s an issue. I will concede that this is the best discreet flask I have tried. I always have problems getting the others to hit properly and although I had the same problem with the longer magnetic connector, the short one worked effortlessly.

You could even still the .5g cartridges, but just barely and it wasn’t as comfortable as the longer 1g cartridges. If you like the flask design and don’t mind the $29.99 price tag this is a good buy. It’s well-built and looks cool especially if you decide to customize it.

CBDFx CBD Pen | Blast of Flavor and Good Effects

CBDFx-CBD-Pen

We have a lot of new reviewers here at Dab Connection, which is awesome news for all of us. You get to hear from somebody besides Grumpy Pete, and I can review at a more leisurely pace. So after a brief hiatus, I’m back to review a CBDFx CBD Pen, 500MG of Strawberry Lemonade. It is mighty tasty!

Pros:

  • Strongly flavored
  • Potent CBD
  • Rechargeable oilpen
  • Broad spectrum
  • Full lab testing
  • Ingredients listed (are we worthy?)

Cons:

  • Those are not remotely natural terpenes
  • A bit pricey at $34.99

Recommendations: Not much to change since I can tell they’re aimed at a high-end L.A. market.

package-CBDFx-vape-pen

CBDFx Does Not Hold Back on Flavor!

As you all know by now if you read me a lot, I am a regular Grinch when it comes to sweet, sugary, candy-flavors. And this, in Strawberry Lemonade no less, is one of the most flavored vapes I’ve ever had. I don’t taste the lemonade as much as the strawberry; exactly like strawberry shortcake frosting or a strawberry pop. The aroma exactly matches the taste.

While this experience is not remotely like tasting cannabis, I have to say, they really knocked out the flavor and for once this is a sweet tasting vape that did not choke me. So kudos to CBDFx for pulling that off. I actually vaped a sweet oil pen and enjoyed it for once, albeit the taste is as artificial as could be.

CBDFx-vape-pen4

Potent CBD Effects

Naturally, if you use full cannabis regularly and your tolerance is up there, you won’t be able to feel CBD. I, a pro reviewer and veteran psychonaut, manage my tolerance with watchmaker precision, all the better to report on altcan effects. CBD does not have psychoactive effects, but you feel it in the body and the joints. It’s a deeply relaxing sensation, like a massage in a molecule, soothing and comforting.

CBDFx posts their full lab tests on-site – are we worthy? – including potency and safety. Thus, I am assured that CBD is all I’m getting here, but I do feel a bit of a nudge from the broad-spectrum entourage. Furthermore, they print the actual vape ingredients on the box (“natural and artificial flavors”), which is something I rarely see anywhere. So they get high marks for their transparency. While we’re dwelling on the packaging, it also came with a foil freshness pouch, which doubles as an anti-tampering measure.

CBDFx-vape-pen3

Is California Normally That Expensive?

The $34.99 price tag sticks in my craw, considering that this is just a half-gram of CBD. The maximum price for a disposable vape pen seems to hover around $29 normally. Those are full gram prices. So that’s steep for 500MG of CBD, no matter how flavorful. With that said, CBDFx is out of California, headquartered in L.A. So this brand might be aimed at the boutique Cali dispensary shopper. If you’re not in California, there are plenty of cheaper CBD pens out there, some of which even take the bold, risky strategy of tasting like cannabis.

Nevertheless, this is an excellently done CBD pen in all the ways that matter to the mainstream market. Find vapes and CBD products here. Readers, explain to me why everything has to taste like a birthday cake in Candyland, here in the comments or in our forum.

Green Life Productions Flower Review – Strong and Smooth

0
green life productions review

Today I picked up a 1/8th of flower from GLP “gas leak” yum!

Pros:

  • Nice color
  • Strong median/gas taste, earning its name
  • Smooth pulls that do not make you cough
  • Nice head high & body relaxed, loss of track of time getting things done

Cons:

  • $42 for a 1/8th of smoke
  • It only lasted 2 days
  • Not for sitting around

Recommendations: None

green life productions jar

Beautiful looking flower

Albeit the jar was a bit hard to get into, it was worth the frustration of opening. The colorful fluffy nugs bounced just right on a hard surface, telling me that it was just right, not too dry, not too wet. Putting it into the grinder was almost heartbreaking, but then I opened the grinder and thought I could hear the angels sing, it was so beautiful. I was also taken with the great aroma it was giving, gas, ya a little, maybe, however, I felt it had an expensive perfume sent with a slight skunk undertone. And I love it!

I decided that this would be great for rolling, so  I did just that. It went down smoothly and made me feel just like I wanted, calm, and relaxed yet looking to be creative and do something. Not watch the movie sorta flower and I like that too, I got a lot of houseplant chores done that day. It was great, and now I’m ready for the holiday.

green life productions jar top

High price for what it is

I smoke a lot of flower, like a 1/8th a day alone. I’m married and they smoke as much as I do, so a 1/8 goes fast in our home. The retail price of this flower would be $60 for the 1/8th, this was on sale for $18 off and for me still a bit high for daily use. I pay $50 for a ½ oz normally and I’ve yet to run across a premium flower that would make me smoke less and have it last longer, I’ve tried for 20 years now. That said, I will get something like this for special occasions or holidays and I’d tell my friends to also give it a try to let them see what quality product they make.

green life productions flower

The taste of this flower was great

From the moment I opened the jar, I felt a vibe of this flower, subtle yet powerful. It had the smell of natural gas, but for me an undertone of expensive perfume, Chanel perhaps? Once I ground this flower up, the odor exploded. It also brought forward a skunky odor that was just right. Upon lighting it up, the taste was nice and smooth, and a slight perfume aftertaste that you don’t mind.

glp gasleak flower stock

The flower did not last that long

I’m truly disappointed it’s gone, the high was good, and the taste was nice, but for the price, it would be very costly to consume this on the regs. I will however keep this brand in mind for when I want to give myself a nice treat or special occasion.

glp gasleak flower terpenes

Will I be using this brand again soon?

Yes, I will use this again, it’s a nice quality and a great high. I’ll also keep an eye out for when it’s on special like it was today.

NuLeaf THC Cart Review – Nice High

nuleaf cart review

Today I picked up a Nuleaf cart of Mandarin Cookies, what a treat!

You can check our review of Nuleaf carts from 2 years ago here.

Pros:

  • Great round tip
  • Strong caryophyllene/citrus taste, earning its name
  • Smooth pulls that do not make you cough
  • Nice head high & body relaxed, loss of time and a bit of a couch lock

Cons:

  • A lot of plastic in the design and packaging
  •  It could change your day, use it at night!

Recommendations: None

nuleaf cart package

Nuleaf cart was quite a treat

This cart was quite the treat to try, its flavor was nice and smooth, not causing me to cough at all. For the price of $19 plus tax, I find it to be quite a fine deal. The last pull was as good as the first, I did however burn on the lower end, as I tend to get burnt carts if I do not. The colorful, yet not-so-easy packaging was of good child safety, I’m sure.

The design and roundness of the tip were nice, however, I like it better when it’s glass or ceramic,  not plastic. The High was nice and made me feel relaxed and in a zone. If that zone however got too quiet it was easy to take a nice long nap, as I did on day two of using it. I feel that the time it lasted and the cost, it’s a  value, I’ll get it again.

nuleaf cart close up

Fair price for what it is

From a price point of view, this cart is something I’d get on a daily/weekly basis. This is a medium-quality product with a great profile (THC 89.18%, caryophyllene 7.7mg/g, limonene 2.5mg/g, humulene 2.2mg/g) So  I’m in hopes that one day they may move away from the plastic tip yet keeping the price fair so I’ll buy more in the future.

nuleaf cart tip

The taste of the Nuleaf cart was fine

I loved the taste of this vape cart, it was smooth to pull and had a great aftertaste of citrus and weed. I  was not mad at it one bit. I’m a fan of most things with caryophyllene as that terp makes me feel my best with all the little aches and pains you get later in life.

nuleaf cart in action

Length they lasted me

As I’m a person who smokes about a 1/8th daily, this cart lasted me for four days with flower alongside. I did smoke a lot less flower while the pen was burning, and that is the point. Good value for the price.

nuleaf cart details

Will I be using Nuleaf carts again soon?

I think that I sure will get another cart from NuLeaf as it was of great value for the cost. Will it replace flower for me, I don’t think anything will ever replace burning a joint on a cold winter morning while your coffee is steaming into the ether. This however is great for making your flower last a bit longer, and I will be keeping my eye on this brand and the specials they may have.

Blue Moon Hemp Disposables | Not That Rare

BANNER-Blue-Moon-Hemp-disposables

Welcome to our concluding post of Cartridge / Oilpen week, where yours truly, Penguin Pete Trbovich, gets pelted with vape oil to review all week. I have not been sparing with my criticism, naturally. Today’s brand is Blue Moon Hemp, with two disposable vape pens. One D10, delta 10 oil in “Blue Dream” flavor, and one Supermoon, a concoction of delta 8, delta 10, HHC, and THC-O. Both of them rate “so OK they’re average.”

Pros:

  • Decent tasting oil
  • Decent effects
  • Nice packaging and presentation
  • Rechargeable
  • Temp setting

Cons:

  • D10 / THC-O is getting less thrilling with every hit
  • Potency could be ramped up
  • Let’s keep up with those lab tests

Recommendations: I know Blue Moon Hemp is capable of better. at this point in the cartridge / oilpen game, I’m inclined to say “go big or go home.”

Blue-Moon-Hemp-disposables-1

More Than Once in a Blue Moon…

It is perhaps fitting that we close out Oilpen Week with a brand which is perfectly capable, but does not escape any of the drawbacks of the oilpen medium. Again, botanical terpenes that taste sugary and artificial. Again, a mishmosh spray of altcans without too much guarantee of the exact formula you’re getting. And again, nice presentation in packaging and build quality, to present some more oil that is exactly like 100,000,001 other vape pens out there.

Who can even care this far in? There are infinite vape oil brands out there, because the frenzy about vape pens out there at this point is self-feeding. I am morally convinced that vape pen fans do not care about reviews. The black market vapes outsell everything legal. Even the top vape pen manufacturers barely bother with lab tests as a formality, and always just for potency, never safety measures. I have never in my life inhaled off a vape that was as good as the crummiest flower I’ve smoked. Vape oil is stuck in the “Saturday morning breakfast cereal” range of taste, with no other flavors allowed.

Let’s face it, kids. This was never about cannabis. It was about inhaling vaped sugar.

Blue-Moon-Hemp-disposables-6

Blue-Moon-Hemp-disposables-5

Two Varieties, Similar Effects

Both come in a box with plastic interior wrapping. Both oilpens are rechargeable and have button controls.

  • 5x on/off
  • 3x change temperature (green blue red)
  • button hold to draw

The D10 Blue Dream has a deep, dark sweet taste, sort of like a berry type concoction, but at this point my unhappy taste buds have tasted nothing all week but cloying sweetness and nauseating artificiality, and I am so numbed to oil that I’d barely register its flavor.

The Supermoon brings back the splintering tangy sweetness of limonene, (50% of the vape oil market at least) to overwhelm any chance at actual taste but make my lungs cave in if I do any more than careful kitten sips. I’m tired of everything tasting like a Jolly Rancher.

Both have similar effects, which, after all are provoked by similar ingredients. The delta 10 is a more pronounced effect, with a sedating and sluggish head space. The Supermoon, though it tries to invoke the entourage effect with its cannabinoid assembly, really doesn’t feel like much more than a watered-down delta 10.

Bear in mind, I carefully manage my tolerance and have abstained from anything but the oil this week. For these to come along at the end of Vape Week and still be almost too weak for me to feel it, probably says these wouldn’t test high in potency.

Blue-Moon-Hemp-disposables-4

Blue-Moon-Hemp-disposables-3

We need less oil in cannabis

Blue Moon Hemp has a wide offering of products, and seems to be yet another company focused on producing 50-state shippable products, with altcans an extension of that strategy. They make flower, extracts, edibles, topicals, and more, and I’ll bet every one of their products will thrill me more than an oilpen. There’s nothing specifically *wrong* with Blue Moon Hemp’s D10 or Supermoon pens, it’s just that they blend together with the 200,000,002 (the number doubled since the last time I typed it here) brands of oil out there.

You could sample one cartridge per day and never catch up with the thousands of brands launched each month. Brands almost don’t matter anymore in vape oil. I’m beginning to think that vape fans deliberately avoid brands that are not proudly displayed at the dive gas station on the slummy end of town. Clearly, the deluge of artificial candy flavors is triggered by demand. I don’t think most vape oil fans even know or care what a cannabinoid is. All they will tolerate learning about a cart is “it has my favorite cartoon character on it” and “Bob my corner plug says they’re from Cali and they’re legit!”

At this point, why even bother trying to produce good oil? Nobody will notice. Vape oil is the Nickelback, the White Claw, the Ugg Boots of the cannabis industry.

Blue Moon Hemp Knows Its Market

At a price of $29+ change from either of these, they are a fair price for a disposable oilpen.

So like I say, there’s nothing wrong with the oilpens, they’re just dead center average for the vape oil market. This is why vape oil does not belong in the cannabis market. Since when is cannabis BORING???

Wild Orchard Hemp Zangria Cart and Pen | Great Taste, Nil Effects

Wild-Orchard-Hemp-Co-Zangria

IMPORTANT UPDATE: THCO (and its isomers) are now banned by the DEA. Unlike the majority of cannabinoids, THCO does not naturally occur in the cannabis plant. Furthermore, THCO is an acetate, and acetates have been shown to be harmful when vaped. We at DabConnection do not recommend products containing THCO.

Wild Orchard Hemp Co. should be a brand name very familiar to our frequent readers. Before, we’ve reviewed their D9THC Gummies, their HHC oilpens, their delta 8 flower, and their prerolls of same. And for the most part, we’ve had good things to say about them and they seem to be a widely respected brand. But, as fate would have it for our Cartridge/Oilpen Review Week (my least favorite assignment), the products I got to review were definitely of high quality, but stumbled on one detail that may be no fault of their own: Apparently, THC-O doesn’t do a thing for me.

It might be quicker to get through.

We are reviewing both the Delta 10 THC-O 510 cartridge, and the Delta 10 THC-O 510 disposable vape pen.

Pros:

  • Great tasting oil!
  • Hits smooth, no harshness!
  • Both cartridge and disposable vape pen work perfectly
  • Vape pen recharges
  • Full lab tests
  • Reasonable price

Cons:

  • Weak effects! (attributable to THC-O variability?)
  • Slightly off taste to the vape pen with a medicine element

Recommendations: Either double-check your THC-O process or consider some other cannabinoid in the front row next time. You had better luck with HHC.

Wild-Orchard-Hemp-Zangria-1

Every Vape is an Adventure!

Here at DabConnection, we do out best to help consumers navigate this maze of altcans, terpenes, isomer this and acetate that. We are in the pioneer days of not just the non-THC cannabinoids, but the entire cannabis industry itself. Given that it’s not even federally legal yet, it is commendable how far we’ve all come. So, when a major brand like Wild Orchard Hemp Co. puts out a dud, and it’s a new cannabinoid on the market, it makes more sense to suspect the cannabinoid.

BUT… We went through this kind of uncertainty about HHC just months ago. THC-O might be one of those beasts that only works as an edible on Tuesdays when it’s raining and the rest of the time you have to dab it while facing east.

So, when reading this review, keep in mind that alternative cannabinoids are not an exact science yet. We’re in the wild west trying out random hooches from outlaw gardens.

What Was in This Vape Exactly?

Wild Orchard Hemp Co. is very conscientious about testing, and I easily found their lab sheets for both products.

Zangria-lab-test

OK: First, the box label has me confused. It says (or seems to intend) “delta 10 THC-O.” However, up until now I’ve seen delta 10 and THC-O treated as separate things. We also know that the “delta”s are isomers while the “-O”s are acetates. Now: Does this mean that we have an acetate that is also an isomer, an isomer of that acetate, or an acetate of the isomer…?

Then we get to the lab sheet and I’m even more confused. Now it’s “delta 8 THC-O Acetate.” Next down is our old familiar delta 8 THC, and those two are the most prominent cannabinoids. Next after the obligatory trace of CBD, we have the trailing cannabinoids in percentages too small to worry about. But this is my first time anywhere seeing “delta6a10a-THC.” I mean that I read lab sheets every day for this gig, and have never seen that particular cannabinoid before.

In any case, whatever cannabinoid is the most abundant here, it doesn’t do anything for me. Reportedly it doesn’t do anything for a bunch of other people, if I read my altcan Internet forums right. I didn’t even feel the delta 8, not that 29% of it is going to make much difference. I felt the terpenes more than I felt any cannabinoids here. Like I was vaping CBD, if even that.

Wild-Orchard-Hemp-Zangria-2

Everything Else About Wild Orchard Zangria Was Awesome?

“Zangria” is Wild Orchard Hemp Co.’s in-house strain/oil formula. They sent along two container products for it: the 510-threaded cartridge (again with that bulky tank circumference so they won’t fit socket vapes), and a perfectly practical disposable vape pen. Both were full spectrum.

Both vaped beautifully. The oil is basically earthy-floral with some mango-sweetness, and some body to it, but not chokingly sweet. I described the cartridge as a mild butterscotch taste. The vape pen is like the cartridge’s oil, but added another taste that was either an antiseptic or medicine taste, possibly a holdover from the THC-O processing, or maybe some carene slipped into the terpene mixture.

I like that Wild Orchard Hemp thinks to print the terpenes right there on the box! There are so many things to like about these products, it is a shame about the weird cannabinoid misfire.

Wild-Orchard-Hemp-Zangria-4

Is THC-O Just Bunk?

Or was this “delta 10 THC-O” or even “delta 8 THC-O”? Readers, as always, feel free to chime in below in the comments with your THC-O experiences. What altcan mishap have I encountered here?

On the other hand, if you have had better experiences with delta 10 THC-O, as perhaps some people report, then these Zangria items might suit you. At the price of $29.99, they are reasonable. We’re going to have to “To be continued…” this one and see what other exploration of altcans turns up. Find Wild Orchard Hemp Co. products here.

iDelta8 Obsidian Disposable Oilpen | Tasty and Satisfying

BANNER-iDelta8-Obsidian-disposable-oilpen

Here we are, one day after elections – shout-out to Maryland and Missouri for full-rec legalizing cannabis! And here we also are, in the middle of Cartridge Week. This is where your Present Author, not much of a vape enthusiast, gets to review five brands of vape cartridge / oilpen brands. So far this week we had two stinkers, but today’s selection makes up for it!

The iDelta8 Obsidian disposable oilpen is a tasty and satisfying vape, enough to win over a vape Scrooge like me!

Pros:

  • Delicious taste!
  • Smooth vaping!
  • Great effects
  • Charge port
  • Decent price point

Cons:

  • The tiered-potency bit is innovative, but a bit confusing

Recommendations: You’re doing everything right as far as I can tell.

iDelta8-Obsidian-disposable-oilpen-1

Hit-To-Draw Oilpens Rock!

As vapes go, I don’t know why everybody isn’t on the disposable oilpen standard already, rather than this cartridge and battery system. A good self-contained oilpen, like the iDelta8 Obsidian, works like a magic cigarette: just puff it! No buttons, no haptic feedback, just draw at will. It’s ready whenever you are, and when you’re done, you can set it down and forget it. It’s downright decadent. More things should work this way.

The iDelta8 Obsidian is the last word in discreet, compact, convenient hardware, with the kind of simplicity I wish I could find more often in cannabis products.

iDelta8-Obsidian-disposable-oilpen-2

Smooth, Great-Tasting Oil!

The strain they sent me is Raspberry Kush, of which I am a huge fan. It is not one of those sweet, choking strains of which I have been complaining of late. It’s a hearty and robust berry flavor with an earthy undertaste, still squarely on the cannabis terpene spectrum. This pen hits super-silky, so you can drag a deep puff. Raspberry Kush is the kind of flavor that would go well with a glass of Sherry and fireside conversations. Whatever the internal temperature is set to, it’s perfect, never vaping hot.

iDelta8-Obsidian-box-4

Great Potency and Effects!

The Obsidian mixes four altcans: Delta 8, delta 10, CBN, and THC-P. Not only that, but the PureCBDNow website (our supplier for this round of reviews) lists three different tiers of potency and price. So the range is:

  • Silver – $34.99
  • Gold – $39.99
  • Diamond – $44.99

The difference in potency is how much THC-P is in the formula. With the THC-P absent, it’s filled in with more delta 8. When you get the top potency, that’s a higher THC-P/delta 8 ratio. I got the Silver version, but I have no complaints about the potency regardless. So, let’s break it down:

  • Delta 8 – Usually more invigorating, but here paired with 2, possibly 3, heavier altcans
  • Delta 10 – Feels more sluggish and sedating than delta 8
  • CBN – The “sleepy time” altcan, very relaxing
  • THC-P – The latest trendy cannabinoid that’s supposed to be stronger than THC

The sum effect of the oil is very couch-locky, super relaxing, and great nighttime sleep aid. I chose this product to be my emotional support vape while watching election night results, and it got me through just fine. Nothing bothered me. I am thinking of formulating Penguin Pete’s rule of altcans: any four altcans in combination are indistinguishable from THC.

The head from the iDelta8 Obsidian lasts a good long while with just a few puffs, yet it’s so enjoyable you might find yourself hitting it just for the taste.

The iDelta8 Obsidian is a Great Disposable

I know that disposable oilpens have been around for a few years now, but it seems like I barely get to try one. For some reason I have not fathomed, I seem to have better luck with the oil in disposable oilpens, which half the cartridges I try seem a step down in oil quality.

The iDelta8 Obsidian is a sophisticated disposable for those of us who appreciate a solid oil product. I will look for the chance to sample the rest of the Obsidian line. If their quality is consistent, I might have found my new favorite oilpen. Find the iDelta8 Obsidian here.

Strain Snobs Delta 8 Cartridge | Overpriced Crap

BANNER-Strain-Snobs-delta-8-cart

Welcome to day 2 of Cartridge Week for Penguin Pete (that’s me). This week, the world’s least enthusiastic vape cartridge user gets to review five brands in five days. Today’s cart is a doozy – Strain Snobs. It’s a delta 8 with artificial, forced terpenes that doesn’t deliver much effect.

Pros:

  • Made by an actual company that apparently distributes this stuff to real dispensaries

Cons:

  • Crap packaging
  • No tests
  • No labeling for cannabinoids/terpenes
  • Crap taste
  • So-so effects

Recommendations: Clearly this product is aimed at the gas station / vape shop crowd and almost has no business being discussed on a cannabis products forum. Therefore, our only suggestion is “move out of the slums.”

Strain-Snobs-delta-8-cart-4

Strain Snobs: Disappointment from start to finish

They say “don’t judge a book by its cover,” but in the case of vape cartridges, the packaging is a very good tip-off to what you are getting. Doubly so with Strain Snobs, which looks so skeevy that even a Muha Meds would be embarrassed to be seen next to it. This logo looks like the lovechild of a leprechaun and the Hamburglar. The package is just heat-sealed clamshell plastic.

Dwell upon it:

Strain-Snobs-packaging-1

Strain-Snobs-packaging-2

The back doesn’t even bother filling the blank space with some helpful lab testing info or even promises about ingredients, just this logo that’s drawn to try to appeal to the Heavy Hitters crowd. This product is targeted at one market and one market only: In a Skid Row convenience store right between the crack pipes and the knock-off Viagra pills.

Cannabis oil does not taste like that!

Today’s strain is marked “Sour Diesel” just like yesterday’s cartridge from Delta 8 Factory, yet they could not taste more different. The Delta 8 Factory at least tasted consistent with other Sour Diesels I’ve tasted. This Strain Snobs cart tasted like lemon furniture polish with a mouthwash twist. It’s not only unappealing, but downright nasty, harsh, artificial, and punishing on the lungs.

Cartridge manufacturer’s note: I am really losing patience with these artificial, super-sweet candy flavors passed off as cannabis strains! Knock it off with the sugar diabetes marketing! Yes, there are a few cannabis strains with a mildly citrus flavor, a few more with a tangy taste. That doesn’t mean you squeeze 25 lemons into a cart and call it a day. This artificially sweet flavor is harsh on the lungs and the citric acid is choking.

Anyway: The oil in this cartridge even looks like lemon juice.

Strain-Snobs-delta-8-cart-3

Effects are barely there

It is delta 8, which is normally half the effects of THC, as you know from our altcan guide. I do certainly feel something, but it’s not the usual delta 8 “heady high with an energy boost.” It doesn’t feel couch-locky either. It’s just middle-of-the-road buzzy and relaxing, even a bit sedating. Just nowhere near as much fun as other cartridges I’ve tried.

The Price is INSANELY High!

Going by the prices where this cart is sold, I checked it out on PureCBDNow. The price there says “from $44.99” and by the time you select the 1-gram, the price goes to $54.99! Yesterday’s cartridge, the Delta 8 Factory one, was $60 and was way overpriced at that, despite having some attempt at making decent flavored oil. Strain Snobs has no business selling ANYTHING for $54.99! My God, the things you could get for that price – live resin for $40, 2 grams of great delta 8 dabs for $30, whole jars of flower – the list goes on!

Strain Snobs is an Insult to Cannabis

I am terribly sorry to be such a negative Nancy here. I don’t think this is a brand that cares what we consumers think, anyway. In a world we live in today, with so many cartridges to choose from, Strain Snobs belongs right at the bottom of the pile. There’s at least 999 cartridges you should try out there that are cheaper and higher quality than Strain Snobs.

The company that claims credit for Strain Snobs is Active CBD Oil. They apparently distribute products nationwide, including at 5 Colorado dispensaries, but my guess is that’s their own house brand (Active CBD Oil itself) while the Strain Snobs are shipped out to truck stops in Michigan. Find it here, if you dare.

Delta 8 Factory D10 Cartridge | Overpriced, Underwhelming

BANNER-delta-8-factory-D10-cart-60-dollars

Greeting! Not “greetings,” I only have one to give today. I’m going to be vaping cartridges all week, and I’m definitely the least enthusiastic cartridge reviewer on the web. Be prepared for a whole week of low-energy reviews as I puff through a box of 510-threaded mystery oils.

Today’s cartridge: Delta 8 Factory, delta 10 Sour Diesel 1ml (1 gram) cartridge.

Pros:

  • Deep tasting terpenes
  • Full spectrum
  • Decent effects

Cons:

  • $60 for a vape cartridge???
  • SERIOUSLY! SIXTY DOLLARS???
  • The cartridge is some non-standard design that won’t fit most batteries, but still 510-threaded

Recommendations: Please publish a book called “how to get people to pay $60 for a mediocre cartridge” because that is your true business calling.

This is not what I expect from a $60 cart

To start with, the price as listed on PureCBDNow is $60. That’s a 1ml cartridge, equal to a gram cart. I just price-checked to double-check (is inflation really THAT bad?), and several name brands offer a delta 10 1G cart for ~$30 or so. So I have no idea where they get away with this outrageous price.

The price is the injury; now let’s talk about the insults.

Look at this packaging. LOOK AT IT!

delta-8-factory-delta-10-cart2

delta-8-factory-delta-10-cart3

The sketchiest cartridge brands we find on DHGate look better than this. This package design is a nightmare collage of fonts, almost hiding the brand name, with that pukey icon to represent “Sour Diesel” which doesn’t even match the same position on the packaging on the site. The back is a condescending lecture to me about the miracles of delta 10 and no lab stats. No percentage of cannabinoids, nothing.

Next, the hardware is nonstandard

The cartridge has a short, squat, fat build to it. I have no idea what the purpose of this is, but you can forget using it with any socket-style battery like the PCKT Two or the CCELL Rizo or the Doteco TargetX. When a cartridge makes me dig through my pile of batteries in frustration before finding something that will half-work, that’s a bad design. I finally did use it with my TribeTokes Saber, although the nonstandard size prevents it from folding in with the Saber’s signature switchblade action.

Compare to a normal 510-threaded cart:

delta-8-factory-delta-10-cart4

Now for the important part: the oil itself.

The Oil is Actually Pretty Decent

I definitely taste the “full spectrum” of Sour Diesel terpenes alright. It does taste exactly like a strain high in caryophyllene. It has a rich, spicy aroma and a thick, earthy, gassy taste, almost like a good dark green leafy salad. In fact, I notice more than once that Sour Diesel hits me with a taste mildly redolent of spinach, Brussels sprouts, or kale. But in a good way? This cart has that, but maybe the veggie taste suggests some chlorophyll made it into the mix.

The effects are indeed potent enough that I’d say this oil has to be at least 90% delta 10. Delta 10 hits me heavier than its isomer cousins, with a definite couch-lock effect. I found this cartridge to have the effects of calming, soothing, and sedating, but not conductive to getting work done for the rest of the day. This cart feels like it would go good with a streaming binge of a TV series.

If this were a $40 cartridge, I’d say the oil is “good,” but at the $60 price, “pretty decent” is not where you want to be! This is a shame because they nailed a good flavor that isn’t too harsh on delta 10. But still, I’ve had $30 carts that were just as good if not better. For instance, the Verano Travelers I had back on last 4/20 blows this away, and it’s a disposable pen for $40.

Delta 8 Factory’s D10 cartridge is Not a Good Buy

I just do not see the point of recommending this one. Delta 8 Factory’s quality standards are just abysmal, and while the oil quality is satisfactory, it sure is not $60 oil. There are 1-gram live resin cartridges out there for $40. all day. If Delta 8 Factory wants people to pay $60 per cart, they’re going to have to seriously get their act together.

Join us all week for my week of cartridge reviews. I see some better ones coming up at the end of the week.

Snapdragon Hemp Edibles Subscription Box | Tasty Assortment

Your humble penguin is caught lately between the drive to sample all the cannabis edibles on the market, and the need to keep my weight down to reasonable levels. Since I make a whole living from writing (they said it couldn’t be done…), mine is a sedentary lifestyle (everyday everyday type type type!) which requires calorie management. Nevertheless, what with the holidays and all, one is obliged to indulge in the occasional treat.

Snapdragon Hemp has served my treats for the month, with their Delta-8 THC Edibles Subscription Box. This is the standard size 6-item box, with one “super strength” extra thrown in (I’ll explain in a bit).

Pros:

  • Tasty treats!
  • Well-rounded assortment
  • Good range of potency
  • Vacuum-pack preserves freshness
  • Clearly labeled ingredients and dosage
  • Full spectrum effects

Cons:

  • The price at $39.99 per month might be a bit steep for some

Recommendations: Perhaps offer more customizable options? E.G. “Cookies assortment” or “Rice Krispies collection”?

SnapPakXL

Snapdragon Boxes Offer a Broad Assortment

This is definitely a box of quality edibles. The Snapdragon website mentions that the assortment may differ from one box to another depending on availability. They offer both THCD9 and delta 8 boxes, mine is all delta 8. My box is cataloged as follows:

SnapDragon-edibles-1

  • Rice Krispie Treat – plain – 40MG
  • Rice Krispie Treat – fruity – 40MG

SnapDragon-edibles-2

  • Fudge Brownie – 65MG
  • Coffee Cake – 75MG

SnapDragon-edibles-3

  • White Chocolate Macadamia Cookies – 2-pack – 30MG total
  • Peanut Butter Cookies – 2-pack – 40MG total
  • Super Snickerdoodle Cookie – super-strength extra – 250MG

That last one is a bit intimidating! I’m saving it for a day off.

I mean, obviously my tolerance is through the roof reviewing products for this gig. Yes, granted, this is delta 8, kid brother to our favorite isomer #9 of THC. Scoff all you want, but 200+MG of anything ought to at least be a heavy load for any of you. If not, God, take a 1-day tolerance break already!

SnapDragon-edibles-5

So Far, So Munchy!

I have only enjoyed 2 of the items so far, the coffee cake and the chocolate macadamia cookies. Both of them were of satisfactory freshness considering the shipping delay. Both of them were tasty and satisfying with no cannabis taste to them. And both of them feel just like what you would expect from the labeled potency.

Delta 8, as we reiterate in our altcan guide here, has effects similar to THC at just about exactly half the strength. For the most part, that stays relevant at doses lower than, say, 100MG. After that breakpoint, you almost can’t distinguish the effects of delta 8 from THCD9. Snapdragon Hemp edibles include full spectrum effects from cannabis-derived terpenes as well. When you add entourage effects to delta 8, it mimics the effects of full-THCD9 cannabis even more closely. So, bottom line, these edibles should feel similar to the equivalent full-cannabis dosage in an edible, but with more alertness and less brain fog.

UPDATE | Finishing the box :

Over the last few weeks since this review, I’ve munched my way through the rest of the box – except for the 250MG beastie, which I’m saving for New Years. I can report that every edible in this box was just as satisfying as the first, with potent effects as listed on the package. The vacuum-pack helps keep the freshness preserved, so you can space these out over the month. Made for some memorable wake-and-bakes!

SnapDragon-edibles-4

The Snapdragon Hemp Edibles Subscription Box – Great Holiday Gift!

I would recommend the Snapdragon Subscription at $39.99/ month for the monthly six-pack. Even though that price adds up over a year, most cannabis fans have a monthly “weed budget” amply able to cover it. That $40/month breaks down to roughly $6.66 per cookie (heh heh, no devil jokes, I promised Bert). At the rate grocery prices are going, a plain old regular brownie at the store is getting up to that price. So far out of 2 out of 7 of the milder treats, these have every bit of potency I see listed on the label.

Aesthetics-wise, the “eating” part of the treats are as enjoyable as you can get from pre-packaged baked goods. They were no grandma’s cookies fresh from the oven, of course. But they list the ingredients and dates on all the products packaged individually, very clearly. The dates on the goods are mostly from the recent month. We are just reviewers here so I’m fine if they had to ship the fresher samples out to the paying customers.

Snapdragon Hemp has 2 edibles subscriptions, find them at that link. They look like they have a broad offering of other products, too.

Wellicy Duo Dabs | The Finest D8 Dabs!

While other reviewers for DabConnection (we have a ton!) reside in those lucky states where cannabis and its derivatives are 100% recreation-legal, your humble penguin has been stuck oop north in Iowa. Where actual dabs, as in concentrate and extracts, are hard to come by. So my reviews of dabbables have been few and far between, mostly in the altcan department.

Consequently, the dabs I can get shipped to me so far have been things like CBN crumble, and sad little rattling jars of dried-out chalky kibble, which offer all the aesthetic pleasure of a colonoscopy. (Pity me. OK, that’s enough pity.)

But today, that has changed. I got some dabs, real actual dabs, glistening honey mounds of waxy pleasure. Courtesy of Wellicy, these are delta-8 “Duo Dabs,” so named because they pack CBD and delta-8, plus a delicious serving of naturally-derived terpenes.

We got all three varieties, the Blue Summer (Sativa), Fiesta Fruit (hybrid), and Agent’s Wife (Indica). Don’t bother looking these up, as the company makes its own in-house strains. Each go for $29.99 for 2 grams.

Pros:

  • Looks great!
  • Tastes great!
  • The effects are great!
  • Best D8 dabs ever!

Cons:

  • Terpene mixtures are a wee bit harsh.
  • Lab results for terpenes would be nice.

Recommendations: Check that potency, I could swear it’s off the charts for delta 8.

dabbing-with-Wellicy

Finally, a Good Delta 8 Extract!

In the first place, Wellicy has broken my bad luck streak with products from Colorado. This time, it’s much better than I expected for delta 8. Across all three varieties, I had a “full dab” experience from start to finish. The extract is the golden, glistening color of a well-extracted dab, the aroma is heady and full of cannabis terpenes, the taste is exquisite, the hits satisfying, and the potency entirely off the charts.

Make no mistake, this is still delta 8, which hits roughly half what THCD9 would. But this difference is sharply diminished once we get into dab territory. It feels much closer to full D9THC. The lab sheets for Wellicy delta 8 Duo Dabs show roughly a 50/50 split between delta 8 and CBD, so once again you get CBD on the side of whatever else you ordered.

Three Distinct Tastes, Similar Effects

Despite the standard Sativa/hybrid/indica spectrum, these didn’t hit me with a huge difference in effects in the entourage department.

Wellicy-Blue-Summer

Blue Summer has a sweet, perfume aroma and a taste that is a strange note between floral and tea. While it did feel a tad more spiky than the average extract, it wasn’t noticeably energizing.

Wellicy-Fiesta-Fruit

Fiesta Fruit has a mild, tangy aroma and a taste strong with mango, definitely adding some myrcene to the mix. Myrcene enhances delta 8 as much as it does D9THC, so this one felt a bit more euphoric.

Wellicy-Agents-Wife

Agent’s Wife has a sharp, orange scent and a taste very strong with fruity terpenes, at least limonene and maybe nerolidol too. It is good and stony, maybe relaxing a little bit, but not a couch-locker.

All three varieties have a knock-out punch, so much so that I suspect they might have shipped an extra-heavy batch. Or maybe this is how delta 8 dabs should hit every time, and I’ve had nothing but weak-sauce D8 extracts up until now. The three varieties all hit me as hybrids, not particularly specialized as much as they are similar in effect, while all having different aesthetics.

Handling is perfect; the consistency is a good sticky wax which still handles easily with the dab tool. All are expertly purged and taste clean and clear.

Wellicy-Golden-Buddha

Wellicy Duo Dabs Are the Finest Delta 8 Wax I’ve Had Yet!

These won’t impress you lucky devils from fully-legalized states where you’re used to live rosin and such. But for delta 8 fans, or altcan fans in general who like a clear-headed high without jacking up their tolerance, Wellicy Duo Dabs make delta 8 feel much closer to D9THC than you would expect. The hefty dose of CBD doesn’t hurt.

That puts Wellicy in range for a Golden Buddha!
