Roots Cartridges Review : Some of The Best THC Vape Carts in Nevada

Roots Extracts makes cartridges that so far are perfect in every way. They are made by Taproot Holdings, a Nevada based cannabis company. The quality of Roots cartridges exceeds almost any other brand I have tried. After trying five Roots cartridges, they have become one of my favorite brands. We recently put Roots #1 on our best cartridges Nevada list.

The only downside is that they’re only available in Nevada.

Pros:

  • Overall one of the best brands
  • Strong effects
  • Quality CCELL hardware
  • Fair pricing

Cons:

  • Currently only available in Nevada

Recommendations: Taste could be improved, but not worth sacrificing strength over.

Roots extracts cartridges are some of the consistently best THC vape carts

The strains we tried out for the Roots cartridge review were Cheese (Hybrid), Cookies N Cream (Hybrid), Tangie (Sativa) and Ghost Train Haze (Sativa). We got a second Cheese cartridge as well. After testing a large variety of Roots Extracts cartridges, I can honestly say that none of them are bad and all of them are great. Take a look at our video reviews below. Then continue reading for a more in depth review. We only took videos of two strains since the result is basically the same: they are great carts. Taste was similar on all of them as well.

All Around Roots delivers high quality stuff

Roots cartridges are all top notch. From the hardware, to its oil to the taste, pretty much everything about it is really good. This has become my favorite brand anywhere. It would be great if they become available in other states as well.

Design and Build: Top notch because they use the newest generation CCELL cartridges

Roots uses the newest generation CCELL. These currently are the most reliable cartridges and hit the best with CCELL batteries like the CCELL Palm and CCELL Silo. Roots also uses the ceramic type mouthpiece which is my preferred version of the new CCELL cartridge over the plastic top ones that Select Oil uses on their cartridges.

roots cartridge packaging
Decent packaging for the Roots cartridge.

Oil Quality: Amazingly good!

Roots Extracts’ oil quality is amazingly good! They make an ethanol extracted distillate that stays consistent throughout the entire cartridge. Nothing goes cloudy and it looked the same the entire time.

Strength on Roots cartridges was excellent

Even the weakest Roots cartridge was still stronger than a lot of other brands’ top cartridges. In fact, Roots might be a little bit too strong for some people. If you’re used to hitting the new Stiizy Pen and that is the strength that you like, then Roots might be too strong for you. Below are the various test results for Roots cartridges.

Ghost Train Haze

roots extracts cartridge Ghost Train Haze contents
roots extracts cartridge – Ghost Train Haze contents

Coming in at 83.26% THC, it is strong. These cartridges were stronger though in overall effect than many carts I have tried in the 90s.

Cookies N Cream

"roots

Cookies N Cream had the highest overall THC content at 84.47%.

Tangie

roots extracts cartridge Tangie contents
roots extracts cartridge – Tangie contents

Tangie comes in at a strong 84.45% THC.

Cheese

roots extracts cartridge Cheese contents

Cheese came in the lowest of the bunch at 82.83% THC. Even though it was the lowest, it turned out to be our favorite.

Taste was pretty good, but not the best

It was not the absolute best tasting cartridge I’ve ever had. However, given the strength, in effect it was totally worth whatever taste you had to go thru even though the taste was not that bad. I would say the best tasting cartridge at this point is Mountain Mist from Airo Pro.

Efficiency: Absolutely no issue with new CCELL

Because they use the new generation CCELL cartridge, they are absolutely no issue with efficiency. This is as efficient as a vape cartridge can get.

Number of puffs – Roots cartridge oil seems to last.

The combination of Roots oil and the new CCELL cartridge gives Roots an excellent number of puffs. It lasts quite a while and you’d feel like you’re getting what you should be getting out of a cartridge.

roots extracts cartridge
Roots Extracts uses the newest version of  the CCELL cartridge.

Value: Roots is pretty much standard pricing for Nevada.

Most Roots cartridges are $45 to $50 depending on where you go. In Reno at The Dispensary they were $50 a pop, while at Essence West Tropicana in Las Vegas, they are $45 for medical users. Occasionally you can find sales on Roots. There was a 2 for $60 which is extremely a good dea at The Dispensary in Renol. However, even at standard price the Roots extracts cartridges are a great deal. I should note that in California, cartridges are much much cheaper. Roots is a Nevada only brand so we are comparing this to other Nevada priced cartridges.

roots extracts cartridge ghost train haze
Colors on this one looked a bit different, but it was still fire.

Conclusion: Overall at this point Roots Extracts is one of my favorite THC cart brands

Everything from Roots has been good. It’s always consistent. I’ve now tried 5 cartridges from them and they’ve all been excellent. My friend tried many of them with me and thought they were the best carts he had ever tried. Roots is a brand I am definitely getting again. AiroPro Review: Great Vape Pen and Cartridges are Strong

airo pro review

IMPORTANT UPDATE 3/11/21: AiroPro has now rebranded its distillate as AiroPod. Their products now look like this:

AiroPod by AiroPro
AiroPod by AiroPro

Same company with their website at Airo Brands. The below review mentions their old cartridge product line. We will have to get around to reviewing their new product line.

AiroPro cartridges are filled with THC oil and they use magnetic hardware that is known for producing more vapor than traditional vape cartridge systems. Formerly Indigo Pro, AiroPro vape pens are distributed by Airo Brands Inc. They are available in California, Colorado, Washington, Oregon, Nevada, and Arizona. They made are best cartridges lists for both California and Nevada.

Since AiroPro launched it’s original cart and we did this review they have come out with additional lines of carts. This review covers the original flavored carts that are still available. Check out our reviews of AiroPro’s live resin and Live Flower series to see the new lines they have come out with. Their live resin made our best live resin carts list as the strongest currently available.

Pros:

  • Great oil quality
  • Long-lasting battery
  • Strong hits and thick smoke
  • Variety of carts available
  • Can be found in multiple states

Cons:

  • Battery indicator light not visible when hitting
  • The battery does not work with other cartridges by default
  • Cartridge sometimes has to be adjusted to hit
  • Battery has had high failure rate, but they do replace it

Recommendations: Make the battery indicator light visible while hitting it. Include an adapter with the pen that works optimally with standard 510 threaded cartridges.

Licensing Information: LVPCA Lic. #1037731824-000-PRO

Update 11/30/2019:  If you have had an AiroPro battery fail, most dispensaries will replace it for you, but call them first. If they will not, contact Airo Vapor support for a replacement. The UWOW Storm battery mentioned below is currently our pick for best battery for AiroPro cartridges.

See below our video review on the AiroPro vape pen and cartridges. Continue reading to see our more in-depth written review.

AiroPro cartridges are overall excellent

CCELL manufactures the hardware for AiroPro vape pen batteries and cartridges. The difference with AiroPro is is produces a bit more vapor than the standard CCELL cart. Airo Vapor also uses great quality distillates as the oil. For this AiroPro review, I tested both a Sativa and Indica cartridge.

Recently Airo Vapor issued a statement regarding vape safety. Take a look below.

airo pro safety

Over 3,000,000 units sold and no health complaints. AiroPro carts are available in multiple states and they follow all proper procedures in making their products.

Design and Build is unique to the AiroPro vape pen, but awesome quality overall

The AiroPro uses a CCELL cartridge that is not threaded. Instead of threading, it has a straight magnetic connector. The magnetic connection had to be adjusted occasionally by popping the atomizer back in and pressing it. Not really a big deal and have had this happen wit almost every other cartridge type at some point with extensive use.

airo pro vape pen battery
Right out the box are the battery and a plastic holding piece in the cartridge slot.

Only design flaw shows when the AiroPro battery is dying

Airo Vapor’s battery for the AiroPro cartridge system overall does a great job, but when it runs out of juice it can be hard to tell. The placement of the charging light that indicates the battery is dying cannot be seen while you are hitting it. You have to hit it real quick and turn it around if your vape is not hitting to see if it is dead. Sometimes it is just the cartridge needing an adjustment and the battery is still alive. Having the ability to see the battery status while hitting it would be a big plus. Many batteries do not have indicator lights at all.

How to tell the battery is dying

The battery vibrates in a way to tell you if it is dying:

One pulse – 30% battery left

Two pulses – 20% battery left

Three pulses – 10% battery left

Although I would prefer lights to tell, this still at least lets you know where the battery is at on the amount of power left.

Vibrates when you are hitting it

Taking a hit from the vaporizer results in a vibration you can feel. I like this feature as it lets you know when you are getting a hit or not. Adjust the cartridge by taking it out and putting it back in and moving it a bit if you are not getting it to hit. This is common with other carts as well, but with the vibration feature, you get to that part a little faster since you can tell right away it if the vape pen is not hitting properly.

The best battery for AiroPro is the UWOW Storm

This little known battery from a now possibly defunct company works best with AiroPro.  We do disclaim here this battery was not designed for AiroPro, made by CCELL nor designed with AiroPro in mind. We just had an AiroPro battery go bad once and this was lying around and it worked.

The key is don’t use the magnetic adapter when you use the UWOW Storm with an AiroPro cart. Just pop it in and it works. If it’s being picky pull it out push it in and twist it a bit.

uwow storm battery airopro
Pops right in and is more reliable than the AiroPro battery.

We originally received the battery it as a sample from UWOW when they sent us their C-Rex cartridge. We could not find them anymore and think they may have gone out of business. However, the UWOW Storm is still sold in a lot of places. So far the cheapest we have found is $15.99 at  City of Vape. With shipping about $21 for most people in the US.

The Storm battery has lasted so far about a year and as you can see above it’s taken some beatings. Lots of drops and falls, still going strong. Hits off this are also harder than on the regular AiroPro battery.

4.0 volts seems to be a good setting. Don’t good too high as you may blow the cartridge. Another plus is you can bring the magnetic adapter and only need one battery for regular carts and AiroPro. The Storm battery also works with both top and bottom airflow 510 carts when the magnetic adapter is used.

Carrying case is a nice bonus, but you pay for it

Airo Vapor throws in a carrying case with the AiroPro. I really like the case and will use it to carry it around. You cannot fit regular CCELL carts properly in the slots but could fit another similar sized stick battery in. The slots that hold AiroPro carts fit other carts just fine too.

airopro case
The AiroPro vape pen case has a nice feel and carries multiple cartridges too.

The AiroPro’s standard retail price at dispensaries is $35 while the CCELL Silo and Palm are $25. An extra $10 is not much compared to cartridge costs and you get a case, but the AiroPro is not compatible with other cartridges without an adapter. I will make a separate post on using a PCKT One adapter with the AiroPro to make it work with standard CCELL cartridges.

airo pro case open
The AiroPro case comes in handy.

Oil quality shines on AiroPro carts, top-notch distillate

AiroPro THC cartridges use distillate oil. I originally skipped the vape carts because I was told they were regular CO2 oil incorrectly at Nuwu dispensary. Sick of CO2 after too many CO2 carts I wanted some distillates and was directed to the less than stellar Cannabiotix vape cartridges. I went to Essence Tropicana a few months later. I was then correctly informed that they are distillate and bought a battery with two cartridges.

northern lights airo pro cartridge
Even though it tested lower I liked the Northern Lights a little more than the Oz’s Orchard.

AiroPro vape cartridges test high on THC and feel strong

THC percentage is not the end all be all of the strength, but it does matter. Oz’s Orchard tested at almost 84% THC and Northern Lights tested at almost 74%. AiroPro’s vaporization system is excellent. The experience is consistent. You have to use their battery, but that helps with consistency. We have found that CCELL carts work better with CCELL cartridges, and the AiroPro forces that experience by requiring their battery.

The taste was stellar particularly on the Sativa cart

I am not a big fan of flavor being added or where strength is sacrificed to add more terpenes. Although THC percentage is not everything, I generally try to pick out carts that are at least in the mid-70s. Budtenders often will recommend a cartridge due to flavor so it is always good to ask, is this one really strong?

ozs orchard airo pro cartridge
Never tasted anything this good that had a similar THC percentage.

Stronger sometimes means worse flavor, not here

Many of our readers would just take strength over anything and there are a lot of carts that have more terps and less THC. Terps are important too but I rather take the higher THC percentage and that often results in not-as-good taste. There are some carts that test high in THC, taste good, but still are not that strong, like we found on our Flav cart review.

airo pro ozs orchard test results
Nice solid THC 83.577% THC.

There are lots of carts in the mid-high 60s for THC percentage that taste better than the finest distillate high percentage carts. AiroPro’s indica cartridge tasted pretty standard for a distillate cart but in a good way. The taste was amazing on Oz’s orchard despite its strength.

airo pro northern lights test results
Tested lower, but effects were awesome on the Northern Lights vape cart.

Efficiency was as good as it gets

The AiroPro was as efficient as any other CCELL cartridge. This is as efficient as cartridge can get at the current time.

empty airo pro cartridge
Pretty much down to the last drop.

Number of puffs slightly reduced, but each hit bigger

Hits are bigger than of a regular battery and cartridge. This reduces the number of puffs but not in a negative way. The score has been adjusted higher here rather than just basing it off the actual number because overall you are getting good value per puff here and that is the true purpose of the category.

It was totally worth it, would buy again

The value was on point with AiroPro. The battery system costs you more to get in the door than some others, but the case is convenient and you get hard hits. Cartridges are the same price as other THC carts, but these are stronger, creating better value.

Concluding this AiroPro review…

The AiroPro turned out to be a great system overall. Oil is strong and of great quality distillate. The battery is unique and puts out hard hits. The cartridges do not work on other batteries, but at $35 the AiroPro vape pen battery is worth the cost. Plus it includes a useful carrying case.

Mario Carts Vape Breakdown: Inside The Popular THC Cartridge

0
mario carts thc cartridge breakdown

In this video breakdown our reviewer Geoff shows us the inside of a THC cartridge by Mario Carts. It revealed a decent quality vape cartridge with no glue used. See the video below.

As you can see the heating element of the cartridge is of decent quality. The problem with Mario Carts is we really cannot verify anything else. After much research, we think they are one of the many fake cartridges out there.

UPDATE 9/11/2019: DISCLAIMER: In light of more recent news, it has become apparent that black market cartridges, counterfeit cartridges, and fake brands of cartridges have become more widespread than we had ever realized. We urge readers to apply their own discretion, and caution that at no point should readers assume that a review of a cartridge on our site is a guarantee of its safety. We advise readers to always verify their cartridges as coming from a legitimate source.

Tree Base Klear Cartridge Review: Clear THC Oil To Vape, But Weak

tree base klear cartridge review

This vape cartridge brand is notorious for their clear hash THC oil. This is why we were anxious to write a Tree Base Klear cartridge review. They recently had a completely new package redesign rolled out for their prefilled vape cartridges. We got our hands on a Tree Base Klear cartridge in the Bay Area and it wasn’t cheap. We purchased a half-gram for $40 from a delivery service in California. It took only a few days of heavy use to finish it and we weren’t too impressed.

This prefilled vape cartridge company is very active on their Instagram. They have a small following of 28,000 right now. Their following is growing steadily as more people become interested in their clear hash oil.  Unfortunately, the packaging box wasn’t the only needed upgrade needed. They should have focused on building a high-quality vape cartridge instead of one that fails to impress. It appears they are using the old generation CCELL cart or a clone, when they should be using the latest as it hits much better. Below is a video with a basic rundown of the cartridge and continue reading to find out why we’re not fans of Tree Base Klear cartridges.

THC Oil Is Weak And Not Worth The High Price

tree base klear cartridge
Very expensive for Cali pricing!

I’ve seen Youtube videos of people talking about how impressive its strength was and was disappointed it was only mediocre. I had to frequently keep hitting it to get high instead of just needing one or two hits like from the Stiiizy Pen or Plug and Play vape cartridges.

I anticipated strength and instead received a prefilled cartridge with only 71% THC. Klear cartridge was weak compared to other THC oil cartridges that cost much less. Its unfortunate such an expensive vape cartridge could be so weak. Sure, Tree Base THC oil is almost clear but that is not enough to justify $40 for only a half gram. We can recommend plenty of others that are far less and offer more THC.

There was also an expiration date on the label with a year remaining worth of time. What was lacking was adequate lab results on their website. Instead, they have a link to a webpage that only has the text on it, “coming soon”. This was the most disappointing aspect about the Tree Base Klear cartridge review, with THC oil advertised as clear, there should be lab test results available.

Tree Base Klear Cartridge Taste Review

The Lemon Jack didn’t necessarily taste like lemon. However, it did have a refreshing taste. I was let down with the amount of lemon taste this THC oil had. There are other prefilled vape cartridges available for much less that are stronger and taste more like lemon. A perfect example is the Lemon Haze strain from PURE vape.  We recommend reading our Lemon Haze PURE Vape THC Oil review. The experience with PURE vape Lemon haze was significantly more pleasant than Tree Base Klear and for half the cost.

Vape Cartridge Lacked Efficiency

The vape cartridge itself didn’t allow for the THC oil to taste its best. It appears they are using an old style CCELL cartridge or clone. I extracted the THC oil from the Tree Base Klear cartridge and then transferred it into a pod cartridge with a ceramic heating element. The taste of the vapor was significantly better. Its unfortunate this company decided to invest in their marketing than on their actual product. We hope to see them improve their vape cartridges soon.

We strongly recommend that they change their cartridge style to something new. The pod style used on Plug and Play or the standard, new style CCELL cartridges that are on Kabunky and Select Oil would make a big difference for Tree Base Klear. Paired with a CCELL Palm battery they prove to be stronger than Stiiizy’s pen style.

tree base cartridge
Tree Base Klear’s cartridge came in weak, especially for a $40 half gram.

Value is off for the Tree Base Klear THC cartridge

As mentioned above, this THC vape cart is just not worth $40. There are plenty of other oil carts out there for this price, even less, that are better. The high price is probably due to the clear look. It’s a look, that’s it. I recommend spending your money elsewhere.

In conclusion, Treebase Klear has some nice new packaging but should focus more on improving their vape cartridge and oil strength. Tree Base Klear hash oil may be kind of clear but its not the only concentrate oil available without color. Stiiizy had clear distillate oil before rolling out with more yellow color THC oil and a brownish for their CBD oil. This brand has great marketing going for them which can only take them so far. Let us know what you think about this brand and our Tree Base Klear review. Thanks for reading and please comment below if you have tried this vape cartridge.

At this time Treebase Klear is available in California. See our best cartridges of CA list to see our recommendations for the state.

Vape Naked Cartridge Review: Anonymously & Mysteriously Interesting

vape naked review
vape naked cartridge, blackberry kush had a nice sweet taste to it, although it was somewhat burnt

Vape Naked is a mysterious cartridge for the origins of it is unknown and anonymous. The background of this cartridge is no where to be found. With the right type of battery, it will have sweet, long lasting hits. I used the Ceram-X vape pen battery, giving it smooth and light hits. It does have a savory taste to it, but it isn’t to be fully trusted. Here is our in depth review of the Vape Naked cartridge in the Blackberry Kush strain. We will start with the video review and keep reading for more in depth information.

The Vape Naked isn’t made properly or professionally

The packaging itself made it seem like this cart is unofficial in my opinion. It has doesn’t have any information on the box regarding the THC percentage, no serial number, it doesn’t even have any background on where to find the company itself. Below is a video review of the Vape Naked THC cartridge. Keep reading beyond that for the in depth review.

vape naked cartridge with the ceram-x battery
The vape naked may not be the best, recommended cartridge, but it does give decent smooth and light hits that get you when you least expect it.

Also, after a couple of hits, the mouth piece came off easily. I didn’t realize this until I noticed that it wasn’t straight on. It was on a slant, so I pulled it off with ease.

This cartridge had a weak atomizer, affecting the quality of hits that you take
The vape naked had a weak atomizer, making it easy to disarm as well as giving it lighter hits and light smoke.

Oil quality is probably the best feature of this cartridge

Although the Vape Naked is made careless, the distillate does get you high. I personally recommend anywhere between 3-9 watts (4-5 watts to get the full taste of it). This cart has more of a thicker oil, which made it harder to hit sometimes. Even though the Vape Naked gives rough hits, it does still get you high. You may not feel it at first but that’s because it does creep up on you.

With the strength being unofficial, the Vape Naked didn’t taste as potent

There is no telling what the exact thc percent is on this cartridge. You can’t find any of this information in the package itself. With this being said, my thoughts on the Vape Naked is that it does have some strength to it, but it is more tasty than strong. The terpenes were more flavorful, while the thc creeped in slowly. Maybe it was because of the weak atomizer that affected the hits, giving it light smoke.

It does get you high after a while of puffing on it. Depending on your tolerance, it can take anywhere between 5 – 10+ hits to actually feel a buzz. But be aware, it does get to you unexpectedly.

Vape Naked Blackberry Kush was tasteful, but would’ve been better without the burnt after taste

This particular Vape Naked cartridge did have a sweet taste to it. But it did have an after taste to it that made it taste somewhat like burnt. This was probably due to the coil overheating because of the atomizer. Like I mentioned earlier, the atomizer did have a weak built to it. If it weren’t for that, it would taste great.

It also has a sweet smell to it, which I like a lot. Smoking this cartridge is great for trying to smoke and be discreet with it. You can be smoking this anywhere and the only thing that you’ll be smelling like is blackberries.

Here are all the flavors that Vape Naked have (as far as we know):

  • Blackberry Kush
  • Jack Herer
  • OG Kush
  • Pink Panties
  • Grandaddy Purple
  • Girl Scout Cookies
  • Sour Tangie
vape naked cartridges
The packaging could use some work as could the cart itself.

In the beginning, Vape Naked would waste the oil

At first the Vape Naked cartridge would tend to bubble up the oil a lot, making it more difficult to hit. At one point, the oil even jumped onto my mouth burning my tongue. This problem did go away after multiple hits, but I still thought that the atomizer wasn’t strong at all throughout the whole cartridge. It does vary on the type of battery mod you use, but in general it gave light smoke.

The number of puffs were decent. The Vape Naked, depending the type of battery you use, burns smoothly and slowly. I’d say it gives around 200 hits.

As mentioned earlier, it was fairly easy to disarm this cartridge. While disarming the cartridge itself, I started to realize why it the Vape Naked didn’t give the strongest hits or thick puffs.

vape naked atomizer disarmed
The Vape Naked atomizer wasn’t as strong as other cartridges.

Personally wouldn’t put a whole lot of value to this cartridge

If professionally made, the Vape Naked would be a lot more trustworthy. The oil quality can is decent, but the build to it and the packaging is the main thing to focus on improving. Don’t get me wrong, it did get me high, but only after a while of chiefing on it.

Also, it is a bit strange to me that this cartridge is easy to disarm. For many reasons, this is probably found in certain markets and illegal states only. This makes me feel a little bit unsure about the oil quality and what exactly is in it. But from personal experience, the oil is decent. Although, the cartridge itself could be a lot better.

In conclusion,  I personally wouldn’t invest in Vape Naked unless I would want to try something new. This cartridge did give a good buzz but it just isn’t credible at all. The flavors are nice and they vary. Maybe dabbing the distillate itself would make it a bit better, but this still would not be my primary choice of smoke.

W Vapes Cartridge Review : Great CO2 Oil, Needs Updated Cartridge

cartridges_W_Vapes

Reviewing the W Vapes cartridge revealed a great quality CO2 oil in a dated cartridge setup. The oil was so strong effects were still great, but I moved the oil from its old CCELL cartridge to a new style, and the hits were way better.

To summarize, here is the overall pros and cons from our W Vapes cartridge review:

Pros

  • High strength
  • Long lasting effect
  • As good as it can taste for CO2 oil
  • High THC percentage

Cons:

  • Old style CCELL cartridge
  • Does not taste as good as distillate (not an issue for CO2 lovers)

Recommendations: W Vapes cart should be putting this oil in the latest cartridge technology and not be holding it back with the old cartridge. After putting this into a new CCELL cart, the same oil hit much harder.

UPDATE 07/07/20: Since we last did this review, W Vapes did indeed update their cartridge hardware. It’s a great improvement, so disregard our comments about outdated hardware now.

W_Vapes_updated_hardware_4

W Vapes cartridge overall was strong and the oil lasted a long time

One gripe we have about W Vapes cartridge is the California version has had some pesticide issues as you can see on our vape pen pesticides and residual solvents test page. Here we tested the Nevada version of the cartridge. Since Nevada uses batch testing, we can be almost sure it is free of pesticides or solvents.

Testing dirty in CA one time does not mean it is always dirty, but just something to keep an eye out for. DabConnection has partnered with Digamma Consulting, an Oakland based laboratory to provide testing to go with our California vape cartridge reviews. In the future we will send a W Vapes cartridge from California for testing as well and post the results here.

The W Vapes cartridge design needs an update, but build is solid

The cartridge used here is the old CCELL. Above all, it hits, just not that strong. Kabunky recently switched back to the old CCELL from the new CCELL, and they went from super strong to kinda strong. I actually took the W Vapes oil and put it in a new style CCELL cartridge and it hit much better.

Oil Quality on the W Vapes cartridge was some of the best CO2 oil I have tried

I am more of distillate and BHO fan than CO2 oil. Therefore, this W Vapes cartridge had exceptionally good CO2 oil. Take a look at that golden syrup as shown below.

W_Vapes_updated_hardware_3

Strength was good, but limited by the dated cartridge design

First off, the oil is only as strong as its cartridge, and this is a cartridge review. In fact, the W Vapes syringe scored very high on strength. The W Vapes cartridge scores good, but not phenomenal, on strength.

W_Vapes_updated_hardware_2

I took the oil out of the W Vapes cartridge when I was about 2/3 of the way through it. Then I filled the oil in a CCELL cartridge made with the new design, therefore, I hit both carts on the CCELL Palm battery. Huge difference in strength when you use the new cartridge with the W Vapes oil. I wish they would just give us the new cartridge  in the beginning.

Taste was as good as it gets for CO2 oil

First of all, really impressed by the taste here. I usually do not like CO2 oil’s taste, but they did a great job here getting the right flavors going. The flavor stayed consistent throughout all the oil with the W Vapes cart. It did not taste as good as a premium distillate like Kabunky or Select Oil, but it tasted better than the CO2 oil in the Cobra Extracts cartridge for sure.

Available Strains

Got a ton of puffs, oil was thick and long lasting

The number of puffs on the W Vapes cartridge was excellent. After all, the thick oil kept going for a long time, even when I switched the oil over to the new style CCELL cartridge. I would put W Vapes oil up there as one of the longest lasting oils I have ever seen.

The W Vapes cartridge seemed expensive, but it lasted a long time

I paid $100 for a full gram at Deep Roots in Mesquite, NV. Everything but some specials on bud at Deep Roots is overpriced. Not to mention this cartridge would probably be $15-20 less at a Las Vegas dispensary. It’s more than CA prices, but compared to NV, that is not bad considering how long the oil lasts. Afterward, I was hitting on this thing for over a week.

W_Vapes_updated_hardware_1

In conclusion, W Vapes cart needs to update their cartridges to the new style CCELL now makes. The old cartridge style holds back their awesome quality oil from giving out its true potential. Only when I switched it over to the new cartridge did the oil blow me away. To sum it up, the oil was still great quality, just not all the way there on strength. I hope they update in the future. G Pen Gio Vape Pod Cartridge Breakdown: See The Inside

9
refill g pen gio

Breaking down the G Pen Gio vape pod was pretty hard. Below is a picture of the results of that breakdown.

UPDATE 7/10/2020: The Gio pod has been updated to a wickless ceramic heating core. We’ll be updating this page with a new breakdown soon.

g pen gio cartridge breakdown
You can see the wick got a bit burnt.

The breakdown of the  Gio reveals it does have a ceramic core, but really you are hitting off a wire. This is some very old tech. The key to hitting the Gio properly is to not hit it too hard or you burn the wick as I did. Most people might be better off with a Stiiizy. See our full G Pen Gio review for more information.

Moxie Cartridge Review : Great Tasting Vape Cart, Could Be Stronger

moxie cartridge review
The Moxie vape cartridge is made with quality oil.

One of the best concentrate brands makes a THC vape cartridge line. Here is our much anticipated Moxie cartridge review. This cart offers excellent flavor, but could be better on strength. If it were in a different cart it would probably be more powerful.

UPDATE 2/12/2020: Moxie has since upgraded their hardware for their cartridges. We will re-review it shortly.

The Moxie Cartridge Is A Common 510 Style

Design On The Cart Could Have Better Airflow

The cartridge used by Moxie is nothing special. It is the same design you find on a lot of THC carts. The hole is a little too small for optimal airflow and it really does not get the full potential of the oil. The best 510 threaded prefill cartridge so far was found in our stick e vape review, but it still does not meet the strength delivered by Stiiizy, even though stick e vape seems to have better oil.

moxie cartridge air hole
Airflow hole is kind of small.

One major difference between the stick e vape and Moxie cartridge is the airflow. The hole is very small on the Moxie cartridge and it restricts airflow. This same cart would be substantially better with just a larger air path. Overall experience on the Moxie cart would be best in a Stiiizy style setup and better than it currently is in a stick e vape style 510 cart.

Build Is Tough And Reliable

The physical build of the cart is solid. Metal tip mouthpiece and glass or the chamber. I dropped it and it did not break, but since it is glass it potentially could. The cart performed the whole way through with no issues.

Oil Quality Is Top Notch As Expected

I expected the oil to be great from Moxie having previously tried a lot of their extracts and it was. This cartridge was purchased in Nevada from NuLeaf Lake Tahoe and is clean of pesticides per state standards. The strain used for this review was Pineapple Express. Hits were very smooth from this oil.

moxie cartridge oil
Lighting was not great but you can tell the oil looks good.

THC tested at 68%. This might seem low to you if are used to California numbers for various cartridges, but it is actually quite good. See our THC oil pen pesticides and strength tests page. You will find that much of the claimed percentages in California are way off. The Moxie cartridge could be stronger if it had less re-introduced terpenes, but these were added for flavor.

Moxie Cartridge Strength OK, Wax Stronger

Moxie is very popular in both CA and NV. It sells out quickly at most of the places I go in SoCal. The wax is of excellent strength, best of best quality. The Moxie vape cartridge did not live up to that level of strength even when adjusted for prefills being slightly weaker in general. I did not expect to get the same strength as hitting straight wax out of a vape pen, but I did expect Moxie do be substantially stronger than other brands and it was not.

moxie back of vape cartridge package
Info from the back of the package.

Part of this is the hardware. It would hit stronger in the stick e vape’s cart or a Stiiizy style setup. Part could also be that it has more terpenes in it to give it great flavor. The budtender at NuLeaf said that the Moxie was great on flavor because it has a lot of terpenes in it, but was not the strongest, and he was right. I do think if I could get straight Moxie distillate and throw it in a better cart, it would be a lot stronger than some of the other major vape carts.

Taste On The Moxie Vape Cartridge Was Top Notch

Excellent taste through the whole cart . The oil was consistent and this was one of the best tasting prefill cartridges I have tried. Nothing to change at all on the taste it was perfectly done.

Vape Cartridge Is Very Efficient

Almost nothing wasted at the end of this vape cart. As you can see there is just the tiniest bit left. The reason is there are low placed holes so everything gets used up.

moxie cartridge
The Moxie cartridge is efficient down to the last drop.

The waste here is minimal compared to some carts we have reviewed. This cart is a standard build though, you will see it on a lot of prefills.

Moxie Cartridge Review Turned Out Lots of Puffs

Puff count was good. The oil is not too thin so it is not vaping away too quickly. The cartridge does not hit that hard and that also increases the number of puffs total, but is still considered a downside. Part of this is due to the airflow as mentioned above. It is better to have the option to hit it harder.

Value was a bit off, it’s expensive

Although many of our readers go for strength, the Moxie cartridge really shines on taste. It was $57 for a 500ml Moxie cartridge. Pretty high price compared to other carts that are better out there, like Roots and Airo Pro. Everything is more expensive, but it is also guaranteed lean. That is including the 20% discount at NuLeaf for happy hour and 10% less than recreational cost because I am a medical patient. If you are from another state bring your medical recommendation when you go to Nevada. It makes things 10% cheaper and dispensaries have a faster medical line.

moxie cartridge price
Not cheap but quality is great.

Compared to Nevada pricing, it is in the mid-high range of pricing. At NuLeaf there was two less expensive brands and one more expensive brand.

In conclusion, our Moxie cartridge review showed it makes for a great vaping experience. It is not the strongest of the bunch and hardware improvements could help, but it delivers top notch taste. I would purchase another Moxie cartridge in the future. If they update the hardware it will take it to the next level on strength.

stick e vape Review : Great Quality Oil On A Well Made 510 Cartridge

stick e vape review
stick e vape proved to be a great cartridge.

This stick e vape review revealed a cartridge with excellent oil quality and taste. The build quality of the cartridge was also good.  So far this is one of the best 510 threaded cartridges we have tested. Recently we added stick e vape to our list of the Best THC Cartridges in California.

Design and Build Quality On stick e vape Was Good

The cartridge is all metal and glass. The glass mouthpiece feels nice and its thick.

stick e vape mouthpiece
Great airflow comes out of the vape cartridge.

THe inside of the mouthpiece can get a little dirty. Lint can build up in there and I recommend keeping the rubber cap on the mouthpiece when you are not using it. Uf you lose it like I did, this is easy to clean with a q tip. Atomizes seems to be eramic core. You can tell they did not cheap out on the cartridge build here.

stick e vape cart
The stick e vape cart felt solid.

The only thing better would be Stiiizy style. Right now that is the best style of wax pen for prefills. You may want to see our Stiiizy vs Pax Era comparison as well. Pax Era looks similar but is no where near as good. For a 510 cartridge, stick e vape chose as good as it gets.

stick e pen Oil Quality Is One Of The Best

Clean is how this oil seems when you hit it. Smooth but still delivering strength.  Jack Herer was the strain used in this review.

stick e vape oil
Closer up shot of the oil

There was not a current pesticides test on the label which was concerning and I would like to see that on future items from stick e vape, but based on what I can tell from using it the quality is excellent.

stick e vapes strength test
Pesticide tests would be nice.

Strength Was Top Notch For A 510 Threaded Cartridge

stick e vape is as good as it gets for strength on a 510 cartridge. I used the O2vape Flip as my test unit. Jacked it up to highest setting and let it rip. I got close to as medicated as I do off hitting the Stiiizy. After refilling my Stiiizy with different, stronger oil, I get the feeling that if I could throw stick e vape oil in a Stiiizy hardware setup I would be getting stronger effect than a Stiiizy with its own oil. I will test this out if they come out with a stick e vape syringe.

Taste In This stick e vape Review Was Top Shelf

The stick e vape oil tastes great. I could not tell if terpenes were re-added to it, but it tastes like straight wax without any added flavor. stick e vape is my favorite tasting  prefilled wax pen so far. It tastes like a hit of very clean wax from a good vape pen. See our earlier review of Tradecraft Farms revealed high quality buds and wax. They are the makers of the stick e vape as well.

stick e vape Cartridge Was Very Efficient

Almost no oil was wasted on this cart. A very small amount of oil is left on the side. See the pic below to get an idea of how efficient this cartridge is.

This cart was slightly less efficient than what I found in the Justdab vape review, but much better than almost all the other 510 carts I have tried. Hit quality from the cart was on part with the Justdab cart.

Number of Puffs Was High On This Cart

When efficiency is on point and oil is not too think, number of puffs is good too. stick e vapes gives a good amount of puffs. Oil was super consistent the whole way through and did not burn out really quick.

Value: stick e vapes Are Not Cheap, But Worth It

My local dispensary had stick e vape cartridges for $35. It is in the mid-high price range of THC oil cartridges out there. I am typically able to find Stiiizy vapes for $30 and that is a better deal. However, I do think the oil is better in the stick e vape cartridge than any of the Stiiizy carts that I have tried. In our Stiiizy review we found it uses is better vape technology than other carts. If this oil was used in  the same hardware setup as Stiiizy, it would be superior. If I was at the dispensary and stick e vape was $35 and most other carts were $30, I definitely take stick e vape.

stick e vape back of packaging
The back of the package.

In conclusion, this stick e vape review revealed a high quality oil in an efficient cart. Its as good as it gets for a 510 threaded cartridge. I would definitely buy one of their carts again and look forward to trying their other strains. Pesticide tests would be nice to have as well, but we could not locate those. I have asked stick e vape for tests and if they reply that information will be added to this post. You can learn more about their vape cartridges here.

Select Oil Cartridge Review : Affordable CO2 Pre-Fill Vape Pen With Great Quality

select oil cartridge review

Select Oil Cartridges are affordable with High-quality Cannabis Oil

You can get a Select Oil cartridge in the Bay area for a very affordable price. I first purchased this cartridge for $26.00 at Harborside in Oakland California. This company is from Portland, Oregon where the legalization of recreational marijuana occurred a year before California. This has allowed them a head start innovating cannabis oil cartridges, this definitely shows with the select cartridge.

UPDATE 5/3/2019: See our new Select Elite review that covers more strains over two states and their new potent distillate formula. Select Elite is the premier version of Select Oil cartridges with higher THC percentages. They made our best of California and best of Nevada cartridge lists.

The Select Oil Cartridge Design is not your typical 510 threaded cart

I really like the design of the Select Oil cartridge, it does not use any silica wicks or coils. Instead, it has organic Japanese cotton and a ceramic core. Vaping with this cartridge is smooth and enjoyable, you can vape big clouds. Glass has been replaced with plastic which prevents damage from drops. Also, this cartridge will vape every last drop of THC oil.

Oil Strength compares to brass knuckles and heavy hitters

The co2 oil in this prefilled cartridge is fantastic! The Elite selection ranges from 75-95% THC. I tried the cookies strain which was over 80% and enough to get quickly medicated. Additional good information to know is the serving of THC per hit is 2.7mg each. The only other prefilled vape pen that has this information is the hmbldt vape pen, they claim each of their hits is 2.25mg. I have experienced some of the strongest cannabis oil in this cart.

select oil cartrdige
Size Comparison: Select Oil Cartrdige vs. Hmbldt Dose Pen

Taste of Vape is Great

Not all oil taste the same and this holds true with Select Oil cartridges. This is some of the best-tasting cannabis oil I have vaped at this price. I really liked the taste of cannabis with the Cookie Kush strain I vaped. I recommend this prefilled pen to anyone who enjoys the same taste of cannabis. Make sure to use a low voltage vape pen and not a mod. A mod battery was too harsh when I tried it and then I used a 3.5-volt volt vape pen that worked perfectly with this prefilled cartridge.

select oil cartridge review

Select cartridges are high quality with a budget Price

I paid $26.00 dollars for a half gram cartridge I did not expect to have such a great experience with this pre-filled oil cartridge. This is the best CO2 cartridge for the price it’s going. The Americanna cartridge cost around the same and cannot compete with the performance of Select. This is the best prefilled vape cartridge sold at this price and that is why it’s now our number one budget recommended cart to buy. Unforunately, select cartridges can not be reused like others such as Brass Knuckles and Heavy Hitters vape cartridges.

Number of puffs are as much as others that cost more

I vape frequently throughout my day, this half a gram lasted me 2 days which is what other brands usually last me and there are well over 50 puffs available so you can share with friends. Each puff produces a lot of vape clouds. Select Oil cartridges let you take huge puffs and enjoy them too which is what others in the same price bracket do not.

Final thoughts on the Select Oil Cartridge

The Select Cartridge review has passed our test. Its now our number one recommended budget hash oil pen without any sacrifices. I encourage you to pick one up if you’re lucky enough to be in California or Oregon.

Select Oil cartridge elite review
Select Oil has some pretty nice packaging.

We notice Kurvana has copied their design with their new cartridges. You must be doing something right to have others mimic you. Let us know your own review in the comments if you tried this magnificent prefilled vape pen. The Select Oil Elite cartridge review was a true pleasure. Heavy Hitters Vape Review : 2.2 Gram and 1 Gram Cartridges

Heavy Hitters 2.2 Cartridge Review

The Heavy Hitters Vape is a product others are sure to copy

The Heavy Hitters vape cartridge revealed an outstanding wax cartridge in almost every aspect, especially size at 2.2 grams. I took it to the test driving 6 hours to Los Angeles from the Bay Area with three other friends. We had all hit it during the drive and barely made a dent. My friends and I meet up with two other friends in LA for a Halloween Rave. I was astonished at how many hits I was able to get from this cart, it felt like it was never going to come to an end. Everyone who saw this cartridge for the first time had a wow reaction and couldn’t believe the size of this cartridge. I will go in depth on the cartridge and its makeup in this Heavy Hitters vape review.

Update 01/22/2019 – Geoff: After a recent trip down to MedMen San Diego and a full gram testing of Heavy Hitters Malibu OG, I have some differences in feedback from the original post. Overall, I do find Heavy Hitters to be one of my favorite cartridges. The puff count, however, doesn’t last as long as I would hope. No doubt the difference between a 2.2 and 1 gram cartridge plays a part. Oil flows smoothly to a coil heating element and if you take strong hits, it’ll vape up fast. I don’t mark it down that much for this because it gives huge hits. Another update since this review was first done is fakes are everywhere now. Check out our in depth post on fake Heavy Hitters for information on how to spot fake and real carts.

Looking for something better than Heavy Hitters? See our picks for the best cartridges in CA.

Design and Quality – Performance is great but the Heavy Hitters Vape Cartridge build isn’t perfect

You can accomplish some huge vape clouds from this cart. I have no major complaints using the Heavy Hitters vape during my review. At first, this cartridge was flawless. However, towards the end is when I experienced its flaws. I was trying to unscrew it from my vape battery when the glass started to spin instead of the cart from the battery.

Heavy Hitters Malibu OG Cartridge
Heavy Hitters Malibu OG 1-Gram Cartridge

Only after removing the mouthpiece I was able to remove the cartridge from the vape battery, I guess it had released pressure that allowed me to unscrew the cart from the battery. Also, I did drop this cart a couple of times and the glass finally decided to crack. Fortunately, the cartridge was emptied when the glass did crack.

Geoff: With the 1 gram cartridge, the only issue I see is due to the design. Many cart manufacturers use the same style with the wide element housing at the bottom. They have small holes which allow the oil to seep through to the coil. As you near the end of the cartridge, however, a good hit or two gets trapped. It sticks between the glass and the element housing where there are no reception holes. Other than that, the 1 gram cartridge is durable. The tube is glass so it can break, but it would have to be a hard blow.

Heavy Hitters cartridge breakdown shows a ceramic rod & coil without any glue

After testing the Malibu OG cartridge, I was able to tear the thing apart to see exactly how it works. Below is a video of the breakdown of the cartridge.

Starting from the top, the cart has a round metal mouthpiece that isn’t easily removable. I would not call the Heavy Hitters cartridges refillable. The tube is glass as you can see from the earlier pics as well as the one right here.

Heavy Hitters Cartridge Breakdown
An Obvious Glass Tube, Metal Receiver, & Ceramic Rod & Coil

The inside air tube is metal as is the housing that covers the coil at the base. The base uses the small filter holes which I’m not a big fan of. There’s always some oil at the end that can’t seep through. A rubber seal holds the inside tube and the coil housing together. When pulled apart it shows the coil and rod sitting in a small rubber cup.

Wires feed off the rod and coil at either end and touch down inside the activation plate. No glue is present in the cartridge that I can find. This is the same style of heating element that shows in the Mario Cart review. It is safe and sound, produces big hits, but can vape the oil up fast.

Strength – Heavy Hitters 2.2 Cartridge Reveals Strongest vape cartridge in 2017 so far

Heavy Hitters provides very potent cannabis extract in their cartridges. I am always looking for a wax cartridge that can give me an experience closest to a dab. Heavy Hitters is the only cartridge that has gotten me close to that dab experience. Some vape carts are weaker than smoking regular bud. One huge hit from this vape cartridge will have you feeling an instant head change and might have you coughing. I only needed one to two big puffs to need enough to reach my peak. Plus you got 2.2g to go of wax in there.

Heavy Hitters Malibu OG THC Percentage
Heavy Hitters Displays The 83.41 THC Percentage On The Malibu OG

Geoff: I must agree with the assessment that Heavy Hitters uses strong, quality concentrate. In the original review, it’s the OG Kush and we don’t have any percentages. Unfortunately, the Heavy Hitters website doesn’t provide this information either. The bummer is that we would have been able to compare strains. On the package of Heavy Hitters Malibu OG, it states a THC level of 83.41% and zero cannabinoids.

Heavy Hitters is one of the strongest vape cartridges, in my opinion. There are certainly cartridges out there that deliver a stronger effect than the Malibu OG. A good example would be the Brass Knuckles Jack Herer. That Jack will knock you on your back.

Taste – Very delightful natural flavor of the flower

The taste of this is honestly the most natural and closest to flower that I’ve experienced with a wax cartridge. The ceramic disc that heats up the high-quality cannabis oil definitely plays a huge factor for such a great taste! Heavy Hitters vape cartridges taste the best among any other carts I’ve tried. I would rate it higher than Brass Knuckles and Americanna. The first cartridge was so great I decided to buy another one right after getting back from the Rave. I was able to try the Bubba strain too for this cart, but the taste on the Bubba was disappointing.

Geoff: I’m pretty sure I’m a virgin when it comes to puffing the Malibu OG flower. Obviously, I can’t report on accuracy to strain from any kind of personal experience. When puffing the cartridge, I can taste a very fruity flavor and some research reveals its source. Malibu OG has hints of hibiscus which come through loud and clear in the Heavy Hitter’s cartridge. I’m not a huge fan of flavored concentrates or even super fruity herb strains. If you are. you’ll probably love the Malibu.

Value – Great price for such a high-quality product considering the size

The Heavy Hitters 2.2 vape cartridge cost me $110.00 with tax from a cannabis club in Hayward California called Kaliflowers. It’s important to note that this product originates from Southern California and has only barely reached the Bay Area this year. Its definitely great for events such as festivals, raves, or family gatherings. It can also be very cost effective if you split the cost with a friend during an event. Let’s break down the price of this cart. This cartridge Basically cost $55.00 for 1.2 grams and $22.50 for a little more than half a gram. You’re going to save money with Heavy Hitters without sacrificing any quality. Comparing it to the Lucky Vapes cartridges at $30 a half gram, Heavy Hitters vape cartridges are a deal. They allow those who want to buy their wax cartridges in a bigger capacity the ability to do so and save.

Geoff: There are some savings if you buy the 2.2-gram cartridge instead of the 1-gram cart. At MedMen, the Malibu OG 1g cart goes for $60.00 plus taxes. My best advice when buying the name brand carts is to look for deals in quantity. Many dispensaries I visit feature decent savings when you get 2 or more of the same brand. Honestly, $60.00 for a gram cart isn’t cheap. It’s the going rate, but it gets expensive with taxes when you go to a legitimate place like MedMen.

Efficiency – Huge puffs from start to finish until all the oil is gone

Heavy Hitters vape
The Heavy Hitters 2.2 gram cartridge is pretty big.

Each hit taken from the Heavy Hitters 2.2 gram cartridge is flavorful and potent. I was able to enjoy this with 5 other friends of mine frequently taking huge hits from this cartridge all weekend during a rave. I shared this dab pen with many other people at the rave. They were shocked to see how big this cartridge was. During this whole time, the cartridge never leaked even though it was hot during the day in the nineties.

Geoff: For myself, efficiency is kind of a balance between how well the cartridge vapes and how long it lasts. When a cartridge hits really hard, that is it gives out huge clouds of vapor, it makes sense that it goes down quick. This is the case with the Heavy Hitters carts. Take it easy on how hard you vape them because you’ll still get a good hit. It’s a smart way to make your cart last a little longer. Heavy Hitters Malibu OG is potent enough that smaller hits will still deliver strong effects.

Ingredients – Solventless cannabis extract

heavy hitters lab results

We must be thankful for those who go out of their way to help spread awareness of unhealthy cannabis-related products. An article was recently released online that reveals how bad quality control for prefilled vape cartridges is in California. Numerous cannabis flowers and prefilled vape cartridges were purchased randomly by the writers of the article and tested by Steep hill labs in Berkely California.

Heavy hitters are included failing a lab test with Steep Hill Labs. Heavy Hitters claims they care about the highest level of quality possible, they test their products by three different companies. Currently, there aren’t any tough regulations in California as there is in Nevada and Colorado. They’re vape cartridge companies that conduct lab test with those that have lower testing standards than other companies.

Until they’re regulations in place, vape companies can pick and choose who they test their products with that do not test efficiently. Heavy Hitters have their cannabis extract tested by SC Labs, Steep Hills, and CW Analytica. Its quite comforting seeing a vape cartridge company taking extra precautions with their products, however, let’s not forget these vape cartridge companies can also pick the products they want to be tested. It’s much more effective when somebody randomly comes into a dispensary and buys products randomly for the best lab results. After Brass Knuckles cartridges came back with questionable testing, this is especially true.

Malibu OG Batch Tested By CannaSafe

One of the reasons we are getting our cartridges from legitimately licensed dispensaries is the quality of the oil. We want high quality but that also means pure from pesticides or other additives. I can’t argue with the questionability of a Heavy Hitters dirty pesticide test. I can, however, say that the Malibu OG cart from MedMen has a test date and batch number from CannaSafe. The package also comes with a seal, proving its no tamper integrity.

Number of hits – Outstanding amount of hits

Never have I experienced so many hits from one wax cartridge. I took so many hits I lost count, but I can assure you it was more than a few hundred hits. Being able to share this with 5 other friends for a whole weekend and still have some left over is an accomplishment for this vape cart. There is no other cartridge that can come close to how many puffs we got.

Overall feelings and thoughts about this wax cartridge are very positive. During this review, I discovered my new favorite vape cartridge in 2017. This is by far the best dab cartridge money can buy. A friend of mine who only likes to smoke on actual herb is now buying this cartridge after trying it. It’s more smooth than smoking actual cannabis and also much stronger.

Geoff: This is the main point I disagree on, though I”m not expressing disappointment. It may be tougher to tell how long a 2.2-gram cartridge lasts in comparison to a 1-gram cart. Perhaps the 2.2-gram carts have a different coil, though it doesn’t sound like it. I’ve had cartridges whose oil vapes slower and still gives big clouds. Not quite as large as Heavy Hitters, which is why I’m not marking it down. But to say the oil lasts as long as other carts, I don’t believe is correct.

Brands we would recommend over Heavy Hitters

Since this was originally posted, we have reviewed a lot more cartridges. Here are some of the brands we would recommend as better than Heavy Hitters, that are also available in California: Airo Pro, Select Elite, Korova, Kurvana, Justdab, and stick e vape.

For info on where to get Heavy Hitters vape cartridges, check out their store locator.

Lucky Vapes Cartridge Review: Very Clean and Strong

lucky vapes cartridge review

Lucky Vape Cartridge Review: Some of the best on the market

Getting a Lucky Vapes cartridge is tough. I was lucky to get one through a friend of mine. The taste of the vapor is incredible! I tried the bubblegum flavor cart and it tasted and smelled exactly like bubble gum! I could smoke this in almost any public area and no suspected I was vaping cannabis oil out of Lucky Vape cartridges.

Design Quality: Two ceramic discs inside each Lucky Vapes cartridge which allows for huge vape clouds.

I like the design, it focuses on the most important aspect and that’s taking hits. Big smooth vape clouds can be achieved with this prefilled vape cartridge. Its gold color makes it look great and feels high quality. Lucky Vape cartridges are very smooth which makes vaping a pleasurable experience. I really enjoyed taking huge rips with this cart.

Ease of Use: Simple to attach to any low voltage 510 threaded battery

This cart screws onto a 510 threaded battery with low watts. I recommend for optimal results vape at 3-4 volts.

Lucky Vapes Cartridges Strength: Very potent and up there with some of the highest I’ve tried

You can get to where you want to be fast with only a few hits from this wax cartridge. Very potent stuff here that I can compare the Lucky Vapes cartridge strength to to the vape by Brass Knuckles vape or the Amber Industries cartridges. In as little as two to three puffs you will find yourself very baked.

Portability: Small standard size of your typical 510 cartridge

This cartridge fits your standard 510 threaded battery. Its great for taking to festivals and other events and discreetly vape. Be careful not to lose these because of how small they are its very easy it can slip out of your pocket without you noticing, especially if you’re really baked. I already managed to lose 3 of these pens this year with these size carts.

Taste: Some of the best tasting cannabis extract oil

The brand name of this cartridge lucky vapes is appropriate because I felt lucky reviewing this cart. The taste was outstanding. The vape from this cart tastes very clean. You can taste pure bubble gum and the vape also smells like bubble gum. Anyone would be thinking this was a flavor vape pen.

Value: A great price for a great wax cartridge

I paid $30.00 for a half gram and it was worth every cent if not more. I have 0 complains about this cart. Lucky vapes has created a near perfect product for vaping at an affordable price. This company has created this cart with love and it shows in the carts performance.

Efficiency: Lucky Vapes cartridges are built great

This cartridge hits really good. You can accomplish some major clouds and each one extremely potent with THC. You can vape everything in the cart without wasting any cannabis extracted oil.

Overall: I will buy again if I am lucky enough to find Lucky Vapes Cartridges

You really do have to get lucky because I couldn’t find Lucky Vapes cartridges anywhere in the bay area on Weedmaps. I had to get one of these from a friend which is why I got lucky on being able to review this cart. I really am not 100% sure if this cart is associated with luckyproducts.com but it was the closest website I could find that matched with this cartridges brand name. The website has other cartridges it shows but none that match this cartridge design. I wonder if its another brand infringing on Lucky Vapes brand name or perhaps lucky vapes need to update their website.

Artrix Vape Hardware | Compact and Innovative

0
Artrix-vape-hardware

A while back we covered the new vape hardware ODM/OEM company Artrix and their latest vape cartridge, the Artrix Drillor. At the time we teased that more hardware would be coming from Artrix to demo soon. That opportunity has finally come to pass, with FOUR new vape unit hardware designs. I should mention, this review today won’t be of much interest to the endpoint consumer. But if you’re in the cannabis vape oil business, you’re in the right place and the right time to get the scoop on an amazing line of vape hardware.

So, we’ll be showcasing four battery vape designs with some new tricks:

  • Fitty – a pod system like Stiiizy
  • Sip – a disposable oilpen
  • Cubox – a disposable oil tank
  • Demo – a tiny vape (mini-oilpen?)

Each of those links go to the respective pages at Artrix’ site. We don’t know pricing plans on these, but we do know that Artrix advertises a 3-in-1 hardware + marketing + strategy support for businesses. Artrix went all-out sending us these display case units which clearly are also their stock for conventions and exhibitions. We have a lot of exciting things to do with cannabis oil here, so let’s get started.

Again, Artrix even sent us pre-filled samples (basic CBD oil) just so we could puff them all and confirm they work as designed. All the models we tried have clear airflow, deliver full flavor and effects, and don’t overheat, despite their small size. All but the Demo are USB-C rechargeable. All four models are draw-activated, with an economical, minimalist design.

Fitty brochure
Fitty vapes

Fitty – Stiiizy Pod Compatible

If you’ve seen Stiiizy pod systems, this is pretty much a Stiiizy alternative for both battery and pod. You can swap these back and forth with other pods, seated with the same magnetic grip. We’re guessing that most extractors will be more interested in the pods than the battery, since any old Stiiizy they have lying around will do.

Sip brochure

Sip vapes

Sip – Lightweight Oilpen

Not only are these units handsome and sturdy, but they deliver 300mAh and a smooth draw. They’re rechargeable, even though with the standard 1ml oil capacity, that won’t come into play often, but a nice feature to have.

Cubox brochure

Cubox vapes

Cubox – Snug Tank Vape

Here we have Artrix’ take on the vape tank. This bulkier model takes up to 2ml. The window there shows a lot of oil. For a vape tank, these still feel very lightweight. They work good and look good.

Demo brochure

Demo vapes

Demo – Sample-Size 7-Puff Microvape

Finally we have the Demo, which, as its name suggests, is aimed at providing a sample-sized amount of oil (0.1ml) in the smallest possible draw-activated vape. And seriously, this thing’s like the size of a stick of gum. This is actually a cool idea, for trying out small samples of oil before you buy. Artrix bills this as “the world’s smallest vape,” and I can very well believe that.

Artrix is a name to watch for in vape hardware

From seeing their innovative designs combined with down-to-earth practicality, I can tell that I’ll be seeing Artrix hardware again in the future. TribeTokes Delta 8 Cartridges | Catch Their Vibe!

TribeTokes-delta8-cartridges-review

TribeTokes-delta8-cartridges-score

It’s been a year since the last time I visited TribeTokes’ Saber battery and cartridges. But TribeTokes has offered us another opportunity to sample their products, so I’m here again; later we will hear a rare review from Denise, also about TribeTokes. Last time, I focused a lot more on the unique battery, so this time I will review mainly the cartridges, of which they sent three. The main thing that impresses me about TribeTokes is their consistency; from last year to this year I see the same commitment to a quality standard. In the cannabis business, half the companies don’t last a year and the other half struggle to put out one good product for every two flops.

TribeTokes operates with the beatific confidence of a smart company that had it all figured out years ago. Based out of New Jersey, their slogan is “your vibe attracts your tribe,” and often point out that they’re a female-owned company. However they’re doing it, they’re doing it right. TribeTokes delta 8 cartridges go for $60/full gram individually, or also have a discount if you’re buying them bundled with a battery.

Pros:

  • Great tasting oils
  • Decent potency
  • Lab analysis right on the packaging
  • Tight packaging game
  • Saber battery is a big win

Cons:

  • “Plant-based terpenes” you say? Care to elaborate?
  • $60/gram is expensive

Recommendations: I’m curious to see what TribeTokes could do with THCA? Or live resin? Or dabbable concentrates?

TribeTokes Attends to the Last Detail

It may sound strange that I rave about a company merely for being competent, but this is the wild west frontier of the cannabis industry. I get so used to receiving half-baked products that are hastily fumbled into cheap packaging, I forget what a professionally presented product looks like. Just take a moment to admire this clean, aesthetically thought-out packaging. Each cartridge rides in its little box with a fold-over lid that magnetically snaps shut. The Saber battery, which I focused on last time and especially in the video, is a class act by itself, sleekly designed in tasteful colors with a snappy switchblade action. Still one of my top all-time favorite vape batteries.

But like I say, let’s look at the carts themselves…

TribeTokes-cartridges_135213

Look! Lab results right on the package, by jingo! This is the kind of care about their product that puts many another cartridge brand to shame. The stats aren’t shabby either; ~70% cannabinoid range is darn potent for delta 8 and HHC. I have had so many weak delta 8 cartridges lately that I forgot the numbers even go that high. I just want to run with these to the other cartridge companies and get in their face about it: Where’s my on-box lab result sticker? Where’s my 70% potency? Tribe Tokes can do it, so why can’t you?

Here’s a cartridge in action: Observe, pristine, clear oil. And yes, the strain is also printed on the cartridge. Try faking that, counterfeiters!

TribeTokes-cartridges_135354

The Cartridges Are All Satisfactory Across the Board

So we have three cartridges this time…

Delta 8 Green Crack

This was definitely the spikiest of the three, a Sativa taken from a strain noted for being stimulating, which, given my normal cartridge reaction, translates to “least likely to put me in a stupor.” The taste is notably herby and flat, with a sudden, strong fruity taste on the exhale. To my memory, I have never had the actual strain Green Crack flower yet, so I’m curious if the flower smokes the same way. As for effects, this one gets me mellow and calm, but not too stoned to function.

Delta 8 Gelato

The least remarkable of the three, though it is a very well-done Gelato. Last time I criticized TribeTokes’ cartridge for being too sweet; these were all far more reasonable flavors. The Gelato was sweet and smooth, without being a cloying, overpowering experience. The taste is like cotton candy, but then most Gelato carts taste that way to me. Like I say, it’s light and not overpowering. It’s a mild taste that calls you back for another nip.

HHC Northern Lights

This was the stand-out cart. I’d never seen HHC in a Northern Lights strain before, and I consider it a feat of daring chutzpah to offer one. But I have to admit, they pulled it off. I feel that HHC! It hits me hard, knocking me right out on the couch for siesta time. I don’t know if it’s the entourage effect or just HHC does that to me now. I have just stopped asking questions about HHC; it’s the Joker of cannabinoids and no two HHC products have hit me the exact same yet. As for the taste, it is true and blue to the Northern Lights strain. Northern Lights in vape cartridge form always tastes exactly the same to me, like drinking aftershave that’s trying to smell like Mountain Dew Voltage. Here again, it was not an overpowering flavor, but still unmistakable.

manifesto-TribeTokes

A word about “rich plant-based terpene profiles”…

To quote TribeTokes’ own marketing copy. There is no doubt in my mind that the terpenes are plant-based. We do not get terpenes from meat, and it would be pretty horrifying if we did. However, I notice that that phrase “rich plant-based terpene profiles” is a marketing-way to say “botanical terpenes as opposed to cannabis terpenes.” So when I say a cartridge still tastes artificial, I mean, “this terpene profile is not found in the hemp kingdom.” I’m perfectly cognizant of the fact that caryophyllene can come from black peppercorns as well as cannabis. With that being said, delta 8 is not naturally found in such huge quantities in hemp, so I expect that the product is made from modified cannabinoids already. At that point we have to forget about it tasting like rosin.

TribeTokes is at the top tier in Delta 8 carts!

These are as fine as any Delta 8 or HHC cart I have ever vaped. I appreciate that the potency is kept high, and the attention to detail ensures a quality experience all around. With that said, the $60 price tag per cart is just about double what everybody else charges. There’s a discount for bundling with the batteries on their site as I mention, but still, $60 is steep for a Delta 8 cartridge, even one produced with Tiffany standards. I can see where that money was spent, and hey, it is a New Jersey company with a market in New York, so maybe that’s their overhead cost showing up. I just know that most of you aren’t up for a $60 cart every day.

Readers, what’s your overall impression of TribeTokes? What is in the Northern Lights to make it taste like aftershave? Does HHC have a random number generator inside it? Why don’t trees fly? Opine your opinion in the comments below or in that forum we’re constantly trying to herd you into.

Serene Tree Cartridges | Weak Old Misrepresented Oil!

BANNER-Serene-Tree-cartridge-review

It’s been a while since your humble author was called upon to review a plain old vape cartridge, what with exploring everything lately from cannabis humidor systems to new strains of psychedelic mushroom. Ah yes, vape cartridges! We young pups spent many a day under gramma’s apple tree puffing our vapes, yessiree! Well, today’s cartridge encounter was “interesting” to say the least. I’ll try to unweave this mystery for you as clearly as I can, but this is just one of those stories that keep getting worse the longer they go on.

We’re looking at Serene Tree vape cartridges. It looks like they go for somewhere are $29-32 on their site. Just to clarify, this is Serene Tree’s own in-house brand, not the other brands they also sell on the site.

Pros:

  • Didn’t kill me

Cons:

  • Where’s the beef (potency)?
  • Packaging conflicts with COA
  • Delta 8 when you were expecting Delta 9 feels like getting underwear for Christmas
  • Consistently mislabeled oil across cartridges as shown by the year-old COAs on their own site!

Recommendations: UH, maybe GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER in general?

Serene Tree Cartridges: Are they Delta 9 or Delta 8?

Disclaimer: Let me start out by saying, I’m not doing this to point fingers or make anybody look bad. The cannabis industry situation out in California is an unimaginable circus, especially in the vape cartridge industry. I’m honestly amazed anything gets done out there. Yet the owner was kind enough to reach out to us and provide a sample, and we offer critiques as constructive, hopefully, helpful advice in the interest of helping every company shine.

So, here is a situation that does not shine, and does not spark joy. In fact, there’s no point being nice about it by now: This is a cluster-f***.

Exhibit A:

Serene-Tree_164708

This is what we got. Two nearly-identical 501 vape cartridges in consistent packaging. One “Cookies” and one “Ice Cream Cake,” because only diabetes flavors are allowed in Candyland (California), but no matter, they taste like Cookies and Ice Cream Cake, and for once the flavor is not overwhelming. Both of them clearly labeled “DELTA-9 THC.” Does everybody see that?

Serene-Tree_164206

Serene-Tree_164216

On both cartridges, it even says “delta 9 THC” in several places on the packaging. That’s established.

So I screwed a cart into my trusty TIK20, puffed away, waited a bit, puffed some more… frowned and went “hmm, this is not hitting like a D9 cart at all.” So I checked with the site for a COA (certificate of analysis, i.e. a lab sheet). They’re posted here. I even checked with the owner to make sure I’m looking at the right thing. They don’t seem to have one for Ice Cream Cake but here’s the one they show for Cookies:

COA-Serene-Tree

Okey-dokey, can anybody see what’s wrong with this picture? You in the back? Yes…

The lab sheet shows 58% delta-8, no delta-9

And I note, they were even too skimpy to toss in some CBD. Total cannabinoids are 60%, so it’s pretty much all delta 8.

By the way, this is the same product. See the photo of the product in the upper left corner. That matches the delta-9 cart packaging; the Serene Tree delta-8 carts are in a different package design.

It’s too weak even for 58% delta 8

Now, even taking this into account, I go back to huff the cart and still can’t believe this is 60%, even for Delta 8. I feel something that fades almost before I exhale. It tastes like the Cookies flavor carts we know and love. For the effects, practically nil. I even tried it over a couple of days just to be sure my tolerance isn’t throwing me off whack. If you asked me, I’d say 30% delta 8, tops.

I had the same results off the Ice Cream Cake, by the way.

Possible Explanations for the Serene Tree anomaly?

At first, I almost went “Awww, the poor company just obviously mixed up the wrong oil in mistaken packaging for you, it happens all the time.” I was standing on the doormat of the threshold of forgiveness, ready to give them the benefit of that doubt. Then I had a thought: “The packaging in the COA is not an *exact* match though, because even though the type is blurry, you can tell a few words differ there from here. Companies re-design their packaging, see, so this is two different carts in the same product line we’re talking about, which tells me that this has happened more than once.

Then I thought to check the other COAs on the site. There’s the one for – and I quote – “Serene Tree Delta-9 THC Cartridge – OG Kush“:

Serene-Tree-WTF

In fact, that’s the same thing showing up on the COAs for Granddaddy Purp and Pineapple Express and Super Lemon Haze.

They do this consistently!

Serene Tree offers both delta 8 and delta 9 products, so they obviously know the difference. The date on the Cookies lab sheet says August 2022, so they’ve all been this way for an entire year. Nobody has even noticed??? The QR code on the box goes to the COA page.

OK, so far, beyond my little cartridge review, we have a company that is pretty disastrously mismanaged to say the least, and exposing itself to a possible penalty fine, which does happen.

What Else Could Be Wrong With This Oil?

But remember, I said that even if the COA is the gospel truth, there’s no way I’m even vaping 59% delta 8 here. It feels more like 30% if that. For one possible explanation, these cartridges might simply be old. Cannabis loses potency over time, because cannabinoids break down organically. The same thing happens in a cartridge, which is why most cannabis derivative products have a 6-month shelf life, max 1 year.

The oil in these also looks a bit darker than your average tawny blond oil:

Serene-Tree_164318

Serene-Tree_164351

Should I consider myself insulted?

At least they sent me the right logo card for their company. It was the only correct thing in the package.

I mean it’s not like I went out looking for these guys, they came to me. With this. Intuitively, one would assume when a company offers its product for public review, that they’d send their best. I clearly tell everyone: We do not guarantee reviews, we’re a hardline consumer advocate. I’m flabbergasted to explain any motive here, but I can say that this looks like one messed-up company and not only can I not recommend Serene Tree vapes, I’d advise driving with the windows up in Vista California lest you recklessly drive downwind of the meth shack they call an extraction facility. For a licensed, professionally-presenting company to perform this way is nothing short of scandalous.

This is the first time I have discovered a licensed company that actually performs poorer than some black market brands I’ve seen. I’m not even mad about that part, I’m just amazed.

Readers, tell us about your botched-up vape cart stories in California (I’m sure they’d fill several volumes!) in the comments below or in our relatively sane forum.

FRYD Cartridges Are the New Fakes in Town

4

It has been a long, long, looooong time since we last had a fake cartridge alert. Now that we’ve been vigilant in warning the public for going on a four-year campaign, most of you wised up and stuck to above-the-counter products. The rest, well, there’s a portion of the vape market that just wants to live on the edge. Parents should be aware: Most of these are young kids getting them from plugs at school.

Today’s cartridge is FRYD. Please note: FRYD comes as a disposable oil pen. It’s shaped vaguely like a Stiiizy pod. However, we regard all black market vaping oil products as “carts” just for shorthand. For that matter, quite a few fake vendors we found call them “carts” too.

As my now-standard disclaimer, I can not determine if there was ever a real company making FRYD. There doesn’t seem to be any sign of them on the legit market. There was also no sign of them when I last did a fake cart yearly report. And, while bootleg cartridge fillers have slightly learned not to use vitamin E acetate cutting agents, which caused the initial vaping death epidemic, there are the usual health concerns. For example, one random public tester found trace amounts of nicotine in a FRYD cart sample:

trace-nicotene-FRYD

This was likely the result of filling the carts partly with nicotine vape juice to cut the THC oil… assuming there was any to start with. I hope people realize that black market cartridges are not only risky to your health, but they’re always a big rip-off anyway in any case. Here’s another lab test somebody did on a FRYD disposable, and it came back testing safely, but showing it was filled with plain delta 8 oil, not THC “liquid diamonds” as advertised. As if the $20-$40 price for “2 grams of live resin” wasn’t a tip-off enough.

But hang on, we have a full tour.

vendors-FRYD

All FRYD Carts Are Most Likely Fake

This is easy to prove with one quick Google for “FRYD empty” and checking the images tab. Images sample shown above. In strictly mathematical terms, given that the original vendor seems to have zero presence (more on that later) and the empty packaging sites are all over the FRYD brand selling empties for pennies, the vast majority of FRYD carts you encounter anywhere will be fakes. There is no apparent central source.

We see FRYD empties sold on Made-in-China, DHGate, and a new provider in the fake wholesale cart market, VapAcc (presumably standing for “vape access”).

FRYD-oilpens

FRYD cartridges are clearly distinguishable by the half-dark-half-light smiley face logo. Everything else about these cartridges screams fake Chinese packaging, from the fruity colors to the ridiculous “strain” names. We do see some variations in package design – the cartridge black market has never been accused of conformity. They typically come in 2-gram oilpens, usually claiming to be live resin.

Speaking of those fruity colors, shout-out to YouTuber InLivingShaka investigating FRYD carts, who also is sick of these watermelon gusher and girl scout cookies vape flavors, even in real carts. For once, I have back-up: InLivingShaka thinks these carts are boof too. Four years ago I was the lone ranting loony about fake carts, but now we have more awareness out there and the vape community has taken to policing its own, hooray!

There Are Dozens of Fake FRYD “Official” Sites

Our second tip-off that there is no real FRYD company is that there are dozens of sites all claiming to be the “real” FRYD. In the top search results, we find:

  • frydcarts.com
  • frydextracts.store
  • frydextracts.com
  • frydbars.com – referencing their disposable build
  • fryddisposable.com
  • frydextracts.shop
  • frydextractsdisposable.com

There’s even a “flavorzdisposables.com” we found, which is still selling FRYD disposables anyway. You will remember years ago, Flavorz was another fake brand with no owner. We see this all the time in the boof cartridges game, cross-overs between multiple fake brands. You have to remember, most of the people running these scams online are from outside the US and likely don’t speak a word of English. So to them, they’re cutting and pasting logos that have something to do with a vape product, but the symbols are meaningless.

Naturally, there are dozens of Instagram accounts that all claim to be the “official” FRYD distributor as well. Is there anyone left on Instagram but the fake cart plugs? How about Telegram, do we have Telegram plugs for FRYD?

Telegram-plug-FRYD

Telegram-official-FRYD

As surely as the lord made little green apples! Here’s another hint about legit companies: They know the difference between “you’re” and “your” (“If your new, welcome…”). They also don’t refer to their product as “merch dropping.” That’s the talk of somebody filling carts out of their basement.

There’s also a new tool for fake vape cart marketing – ChatGPT!

ChatGPT-FRYD-real-or-fake

Yes, the notorious FrankenSPAM engine has been put to use generating reams of boilerplate bot-speak. As you can see, the person/bot team who put this together just went for the top SEO web pages for the keywords, found a lot of speculation about FRYD being real or fake, and then dutifully wrote up a “real or fake” post.

Note: real life humans would never market their product by writing a real-or-fake article. Likewise, real cartridge brands would never publish a real-or-fake article about their own product. A real brand can simply say “here’s our license, look for this product at these locations…” Finally, real-life humans do not write “please remember that I do not have access to real-life data…” That’s ChatGPT’s standard disclaimer; you’re supposed to delete that if you want to fool people into thinking a human wrote it.

The FrankenSPAM nightmare of ChatGPT is a rant I’m saving for another day on another blog. But suffice to say for here, you can tell bot text by the ridiculous way it constructs sentences, and any site with text that doesn’t pass the “human author” test is not to be trusted with your lungs.

Reddit Users Encounter FRYD

In past fake cart write-ups, I have noticed comments that take exception to my “using Reddit for research.” I’ll provide some context: We DabConnection staffies founded and run the /r/fakecartridges subreddit. That’s a whole community self-policing resource where vape fans gather to sort out the fakes. Since there’s no better resource for this – it’s not like the FDA is going to open a dedicated hotline and publish the results – these reports are what we have to go on. So yes, I’m using Reddit examples and you should take them exactly like Reddit examples: Maybe truth, maybe fiction, but definitely evidence that these carts are reaching the street, else why would so many people ask about them?

Reddit-FRYD-1

Reddit-FRYD-2

Reddit-FRYD-3

So there are dozens of these posts cropping up. When there a cartridge brand all over the scene at once without any company behind it, our subreddit gets flooded with people asking about it. One Reddit post even came up just to complain about the number of FRYD posts!

Unlicensed, unregulated brands like FRYD may have anything in them

They could contain heavy metals like lead, pesticides, cut such as Honey Cut, or simply bunk. Or they could be fire if you’re lucky. But a lot of people in the hospital right now weren’t so lucky. Vaping lung injuries continue to hospitalize victims occasionally, even if it’s not a top news story.

Readers, we appreciate any info about where these are found, how they’re circulating, what’s in them, and your experience with them. Sound off here in the comments or in our forums. However, I am NOT going to tolerate anybody claiming FRYD is a real brand. We have had enough street plugs who file for a $35 LLC and then come after us threatening to sue because we said a brand is fake.

THCO Banned by DEA: Acetates Produce Harmful Ketene When Vaped

0
THCO-Banned-DEA

I read the news today… and ouch! THCO (THC acetate ester) has been reclassified by the US DEA as a Schedule 1 substance, and the DEA points out that THCO does not occur naturally in the cannabis / hemp plant – hence not Farm-Bill-legal. On top of this and on deeper digging, we uncover research which suggests that all cannabis acetates – or possibly any acetate – produces harmful chemicals when vaped.

Is THCO Harmful?

According to the Department of Chemistry, Portland State University, Portland, OR, vaporized THCO (both delta 8 THCO and delta 9 THCO) produces ketene, a known harmful substance described as a “poison gas.” THCO has “a similar substructure to vitamin E acetate” and vitamin E acetate “has been shown to form the poison gas ketene during vaping.”

In addition, the same study was conducted on two other acetate forms of alternative cannabinoids, CBN acetate and CBD acetate. All of the acetate cannabinoids were shown to produce ketene.

The mazmat on ketene:

> “Inhaling Ketene can irritate the lungs causing coughing and/or shortness of breath. Higher exposures may cause a build-up of fluid in the lungs (pulmonary edema), a medical emergency, with severe shortness of breath.”

This looks to be similar to the original EVALI lung damage epidemic among cannabis cartridge vape users back in 2019. That epidemic was caused by vitamin E acetate, an additive originally used to make vape oil thicker. Thus far, we do not know if we are going to see a repeat of that scenario with THCO – hopefully not! – but vape-related lung injury cases continue to this day and it may turn out that acetates in general are the culprit or a culprit.

I Have Vaped THCO; Am I Gonna Die?

You are probably fine! As long as you are not vaping an acetate currently. Ketene is an irritant to the lungs and may cause a medical emergency on the spot. The ketene hazmat states that no tests have been conducted on the long-term effects of ketene exposure, specifically “Ketene has not been tested for its ability to cause cancer in animals” and “Ketene has not been tested for its ability to affect reproduction.”

HOWEVER: If you have vaped THCO or another acetate cannabis product and are experiencing symptoms, consult a doctor right away. Don’t put your life in our hands; we’re just a bunch of blogging stoners.

Since THCO and other cannabinoid acetates have only been on the market for a short time (about a year-ish), and not that widely popular to begin with, it might be possible that no one has had long-term enough exposure to make a difference.

Does the Danger of Vaping THCO Apply To Other Forms of Consumption?

As far as we know, no. Once again, vaporization of cannabinoids is itself a relatively new practice, and different things happen chemically when we apply hundreds of degrees of temperature to it. So as far as we know now, THCO might still be safe in edible products.

What About THCO is Different From Other Alternate Cannabinoids?

THCO is 100% synthesized; NO trace of THCO is found in the natural cannabis plant. Thus, in the first place, it is not covered by the farm bill. THCO is a synthesized acetate. While it is true that other cannabinoids can be synthesized as well, the important distinction is that all of CBD, HHC, delta 8 & 9 THC, CBN, etc. are all found in the cannabis plant naturally, albeit in smaller quantities.

Rod Kight on Cannabis Business Law breaks this down beautifully – and what a rare treat to find a legal professional so well-versed in cannabis chemistry! Kight is the person who reached out to the DEA to inquire about its legal standing in the first place.

Are the Other Cannabinoids Still OK?

As long as they naturally occur in the hemp plant. Hemp has been cultivated and enjoyed for practically all of human history, and so far we have zero fatalities attributed to any natural cannabinoid. However, the possible synthetic chemicals that are cannabinoid mimics are nearly endless, and quite a few of them are known to be hazardous.

How Do I Be Sure That I Am Vaping Safely?

First, always get your product from a licensed cannabis dispensary, since street plugs filling cartridges might use anything and you have no guarantee of safety.

Second, since all acetates in the OR study were found to produce ketene, we advise THROWING OUT all acetate cannabinoid products immediately. Furthermore, we would advise those in the industry to be stringent in screening cannabinoid acetates out of the vape market entirely. There are dozens of harmless natural cannabinoids to enjoy – why take a chance?

Third, give a glance at the lab test sheets for all cannabis products going forward, make sure there’s no acetates in there. I have no idea how possible it is for THCO or other acetates to find their way into a vape cartridge accidentally, but that’s one of the reasons why we test these things.

What Do Cannabis YouTubers Have To Say About THCO?

Cewpins:

Strain Show:

Conclusions

While the capacity for acetates to produce ketene when vaped has been known for a while, the big news that has changed is that the US DEA has classified them specifically as Schedule 1 controlled substances; not necessarily because of the health risks, but simply because synthesized, non-natural cannabinoids are not covered by the Farm Bill.

Botany Farms HHC Cartridge | Consistent Quality

BANNER-Botany-Farms-HHC-Bubba-Kush

Just recently, our staff reviewer TR Sun turned in his opinion of Botany Farms’ delta 10 Pineapple Kush, which didn’t thrill him even though he conceded that it was a solid product. Maybe it has something to do with being delta 10, who knows? But anyway, today I’m bringing you my opinion of Botany Farms’ HHC Bubba Kush, which fares a bit better.

Check out our video review of Botany Farms HHC cartridge (with bonus round-up of some of my other projects). This runs for $45.00 for a gram cart.

Pros:

  • Smooth hitting
  • Good taste
  • Satisfying buzz
  • Full-spectrum

Cons:

  • Your reaction to HHC may vary

Recommendations: Botany Farms has shown us such consistent quality over their full range of products that I could hardly change a thing.

Golden_Buddha1

Botany Farms can do no wrong in my book

Even though I don’t seem to have written up much Botany Farms here, I mention them quite frequently in videos because they’ve become my standard go-to for comparison. Outside of reviews, their delta 8 flower has been my main supply for personal use – I almost won’t smoke any other delta 8 flower now! From labeling to testing standards to giving quality product for the price, I haven’t tried a bad product from them yet.

One thing to point out: HHC, in distillate / concentrate form, tends to be much thicker than other cannabinoids. Yet the cartridge has been hitting smooth and easy for me with no clogs for over a week. Hence I give a “10” for efficiency, which we don’t have reason to do often. (BTW, the number rating system is a lot less scientific than it looks anyway)

Botany-Farms-HHC-cartridge

HHC Bubba Kush is smooth vaping

I’ve been chiefing off this cartridge for about a week in little hits. Even though it’s Bubba Kush, and the website describes its flavor as “chocolate, coffee, earth,” I get more of a piney hit off it. I actually prefer refreshing blends like this. It’s smooth-hitting, with a satisfying, fresh herb taste. Their Bubba Kush delta 8 flower, on the other hand, has a strong, pungent, skunky aroma that is more earthy.

The effects for me: HHC seems to hit me best in vape form, and this does not disappoint. There is a slight delay in feeling the effects, but a few draws produces a mellow ambient buzz that is neither too couch-locky nor too invigorating. The effects last for awhile, perhaps a couple hours. Hitting it harder and longer brings on a brain fog effect, and more of a lazy-day high.

Of course, HHC seems to be the altnoid that hits everyone a little different. See my own experiences documented in my party guide to cannabinoids, and compare your own experiences.

Generally, I like to mix up an HHC vape with other cannabis goodies. I tend to use this either as an afternoon quick hit, or an aperitif to my evening flower bowl. I find combining several altnoids produces more even overall effects.

Bottom Line: Good Stuff!

There will always be different strokes for different folks, applied to both altnoids and cannabis strains. For me, the HHC Bubba Kush cartridge from Botany Farms was a great hit.

Find Botany Farms cartridges here.

Also find that delta 8 flower I rave about here.
