Surplus Live Resin Cartridge Review – Solid Quality and Taste

Share

Today we will try a puff on Surplus purified live resin cartridges from Mammoth Distribution. Mammoth Distribution is also responsible for other brands, such as Heavy Hitters, Rad Vapes, and Almora Farm. At this point in time, Surplus offers three different cartridges, which are their purified live resin, Tropics blend, and distillate cartridges as well as their Pax pods. Previously, I had tried the distillate cartridge from Surplus, which I found somewhat disappointing with a slightly artificial perfume-like aftertaste. For today’s review, I will sample the Surplus Live Resin cartridge,  to see if it has improved over their distillate cartridge.

Pros:

  • Solid quality
  • Improved taste
  • Fair price

Cons:

  • Potency can be improved

Recommendations: The potency of this live resin could be stronger.

Oil looks lighter in color, similar to Buddies, Raw Garden, and Stiiizy CDT pods

This time around, I picked their GG4 purified live resin cartridge from Surplus Cartridge Co., which comes inside a basic, unassuming package with minimal fuzz. While the distillate cartridges are in green-colored mylar bags, the live resin cartridges are packaged in an off-white-colored mylar bag. The oil of this purified live resin cartridge looks lighter in color, similar to

Buddies, Raw Garden and Stiiizy Cannabis Derived Terpenes pods. The ingredients of this purified live resin are listed as extracted cannabis oil with live resin terpenes. The build and design of these live resin cartridges are the same as their distillate cartridge in Jupiter CCELL hardware. There were some issues with airflow towards the end of this live resin cartridge. That can be expected with most Jupiter CCELL cartridges.

Better tasting and slightly more potent than Permanent Holiday, Ammo Brand, and Timeless Noir cartridges

Gorilla Glue #4 is a popular multi-award-winning strain created by a three-way hybrid cross between Chem’s Sister, Sour Dubb, and Chocolate Diesel. The taste of this GG4 live resin cartridge is sour, earthy, and chemical with hints of chocolate, pine, and diesel. Overall, I felt the taste of these live resin cartridges is easily a vast improvement over their distillate cartridges. Furthermore, this purified live resin was better tasting and slightly more potent than Permanent Holiday, Ammo Brand, and Timeless Noir cartridges.

Paled in comparison to the live resin cartridges from Kingpen, Sherbinski, and Dab Logic in terms of potency

The effects of GG4 felt uplifting, relaxing, and euphoric so it was ideal for any time of day. The potency of this “purified” live resin cartridge feels very similar to a current Raw Garden,

Apex Pinnacle, and Stiiizy CDT pod with a stronger onset with a relatively shorter high. In terms of potency, this live resin cartridge paled in comparison to the Kingpen live resin cartridge, the Sherbinski live resin cartridge, and the Dab Logic solventless vape cartridge from earlier this month. The THC % of this GG4 live resin cartridge is 73.10%. The CBD is 0.18%, and the total cannabinoid is 75.83%. This strain is known for treating conditions such as chronic pain, depression, insomnia, and muscle spasms/tremors.

Not quite as tasty or potent as the more expensive Heavy Hitters live resin cartridges

The retail price for Surplus purified live resin cartridges is usually around $50 for a full gram, pre-tax. Currently, they also offer a new Surplus Tropics series of cartridges. Those supposedly have a tropical flavor with barely any cannabis taste, which comes in a tie-dye mylar bag. Although Mammoth Distribution is also behind Heavy Hitters Live resin cartridges, these aren’t quite as tasty or potent as the more expensive half-gram Heavy Hitters live resin cartridges.

Its solid quality, improved taste, and fair price is still miles better than the Rad Vapes

To wind up this review, the Surplus purified live resin cartridges are mildly recommended for their solid quality, improved taste, and fair price. The potency of these live resin cartridges is not quite on the level of Heavy Hitters Live. But it’s still miles better than the Rad Vapes from Mammoth Distribution. We found Rad Vapes to have disappointingly weak strength and poor hardware. You can get your mitts on Surplus purified live resin, Tropics blend, and distillate cartridges, as well as their Pax pods, in select dispensaries throughout California off Weedmaps here.
