The BCC is the California Bureau of Cannabis Control. It operates in the State of California under the Department of Consumer Affairs. The BCC is charged with regulating medical cannabis under the Medical Cannabis Regulation and Safety Act (2015) and recreational cannabis under the Adult Use of Marijuana Act (Prop 64)(2016).
The chief of the BCC is commonly referred to as California’s cannabis “czar.” The current czar is Lori Ajax.
Due to California suffering the worst problems with cannabis product regulation, the BCC license search is a widely-used resource to determine an establishment’s state of regulation. In addition, the California Department of Public Health regulates the production of cannabis and hemp products, including extracts and concentrates, under the Manufactured Cannabis Safety Branch.
