Yocan Black Phaser Max eRig | Cool Design and Grip

Share

The never-ending quest for the ultimate, perfect eRig brings us back again to Yocan, a brand name that is very familiar from our pages. I count about 15 reviews of Yocan products and counting. Yocan has positioned itself as a diverse brand of vaping and dabbing utilities. Yocan aims for the sweet spot between cool design and basic functionality, in my observation, and the Phaser Max is like the culmination of all Yocan design phases before. The Yocan Black Phaser Max is offered on their own site for $160., a budget-friendly price in the eRig market.

Pros:

  • Looks fantastic
  • Easy to use
  • Easy grip/trigger design
  • Easy maintenance
  • Lightweight
  • Fast heat-up time
  • Reasonable price

Cons:

  • Still a wax coil and not full quartz bucket eRig
  • May have some long-term durability issues

Recommendations: Can you give it more lights and have it make a phaser sound when activated?

Yocan Black Phaser Max – What You See Is What You Get

In watching the cannabis industry evolve over these years (and darn lucky I think I am to have borne witness to this period of history) I have noticed the eRig market come to standardize on design aesthetics. As I note in the video, the cone-shape seems to have won the eRig water bubbler design race. The Lookah Unicorn series, the Dip and Dab models, the XMax Qomo, and most famously the Puffco Peak, all these use the cone-shape glass bubbler. I can honestly see the sense of the design, straight edges making it easy to clean and all.

So by the time you see the box, the Phaser Max is almost self-explanatory. You see a hand-grip, bubbler cone, and wax coil. If you’re familiar with eRigs at all, you can probably pick it up from here.

The standard USB-C charger plugs into the base at the back and charges in a couple hours, with a full charge on its 1800 mAh battery good for days. The water bubbler pops off the grip base, seated in hard foam. Fill the bubbler to an inch or so and re-seat. The wax coils are interchangeable (2 provided) and come with a rubber cover and cap. The rubber helps insulate against the heat, minimizing those burned-finger incidents (you all know you’ve had that happen once with other dab rigs).

But the real star of the show is this hand-grip battery base…

The Yocan Black Phaser Max is Fun to Use!

When I first started using it, it suddenly dawned on me that I was e-dabbing one-handed. I didn’t have to fumble as I do with some eRigs, holding this thing and pressing somewhere else, with these awkward grips that risk burning myself on the hot part. As its name implies, the Phaser Max rests comfortably in one hand – indeed, switching rightie and leftie – with a pistol grip to activate. Facing the user, the unit has a full LCD screen showing temperature, length of draw, and other data. The “+” and “-” buttons set the target temperature. The read-out gives you live temperature data as your dab heats, with the base glowing as it heats. Temp range runs 400-750F.

This light weight and pistol grip makes for the most easily-managed dab unit I’ve seen in a long time. It’s hand-friendly for those with arthritis or mobility/dexterity issues. The on-demand mode makes drawing a dab nearly as easy as drawing a vape pen. The operation is more like using a wax pen than a dab rig. At the same time, the button placement and grip design is sure to be friendly to the video-game generation.

Is the Yocan Black Phaser Max Standard Federation Equipment?

While I do have a couple reservations about the long-term durability, and would not call this a heavy-duty rig, the Phaser Max packs a lot of ideas into a practical design, and makes this one of the easiest eRigs for the beginners, klutzes, and butterfingers of the world. At $160, the Yocan Black Phaser Max hits in the reasonable midrange of prices.

Find the Yocan Black Phaser Max here. Readers, how did it take us so long to put a pistol grip on an eRig? Any others like this out there? Yap away in the comments or in our dank forum.
