Pineapple Express is a popular favorite strain with cannabis fanciers, chiefly for its inspiring effect and sublimely sweet smell. It is also one of the oldest strains identified.

Pineapple Express has an unmistakable flavor and effect

Pineapple Express is loved for both its aroma and effect. It is a sweet, fruity hybrid heavy on the Sativa end. Thanks to a terpene profile that’s strong in caryophyllene and humulene, it has an aroma resembling spicy pineapple. Pineapple Express has an effect described as “giddy,” with an energetic feeling that artists prize for its creative inspiration. While it is not as potent as other strains, the entourage effect makes up for slightly less THC.

Pineapple Express has a questionable origin

G13 Labs claims to have originated the strain in the mid-2000s, but others dispute this claim or else other cultivators claim that they perfected it. Research concludes that the strain was definitely bred from Trainwreck and an unknown Hawaiian hybrid. By the time anyone thought to ask for its pedigree, it was already widely distributed across California medical dispensaries.

Honors

Pineapple Express is one of the only cannabis strains to have a movie named after it: Pineapple Express (2008) is a Seth Rogan action-comedy caper about a process server and his weed dealer tussling with organized crime. The cannabis strain is named in the movie and even serves as a plot device! Outside of that, Pineapple Express is most popular on the west coast and is often prescribed to treat depression.
