After reviewing Smart Cart, we realized that we picked up a fake Smart Cart. With this in mind, we did not like this inauthentic version one bit. Smart Cart is an authentic company with legit results, but too many fakes are being distributed in the black market. Because of this, they discontinued their previous packaging.

Smart Cart, also known as SmartBud.CA on instagram, is a smoke shop based in California. From cartridges to selling grass, this company is know for having high quality products. We picked up Smart Cart Purple Punch and did not like it one bit. The reason for this is because this specific cartridge is not an authentic one. It’s from their  previous packaging that they discontinued. Because of how many fakes there are, they decided to cut off their previous packaging. Therefore, if you ever come across a discontinued package, than it definitely is a fake Smart Cart.

Recommendations: Stop buying inauthentic street or fake cartridges.

Smart Cart sell authentic cartridges, but we picked up a fake, which is most of them in circulation

First off, Smart Cart is a legit company with authentic and tested products. Although they do sell cartridges, they have been focusing mainly on selling straight weed. The reason for this is because there have been so many fakes out, they had to discontinue their old packaging. There is so many packaging being sold from Chinese manufacturers, they had to cut out the last packaging.

That being said, most Smart Carts out there are fake. There are way more fake than real, so if you have a Smart Cart in your hand and you did not buy it at a California dispensary, way more likely than not it’s a fake.

Discontinued cartridge turned out to be fake

Here we encountered the old version of Smart Cart, before they updated their current packaging. Because they cancelled these packaging, the oil is not original and may be filled with anything inauthentic. We tried Purple Punch and would not recommend them to anyone. Personally, I didn’t like it one bit and it had a terrible taste to it, it could’ve been filled with anything, it’s difficult to trust the old packaging.

So we picked this particular cartridge and didn’t like anything about them what so ever. As mentioned earlier, if you ever face these packaging, than without a doubt they aren’t legit. We didn’t like these so much to the point we literally threw it out after just a few hits.

It’s very unfortunate what the black market can do and cause for these authentic companies. Without people being aware, it really can damage the positive reputation that companies created for themselves.

Oil quality looks decent, but don’t be fooled

At first glance, I thought that the oil looked great. It seemed to have a nice and thick consistency and has a very clear and clean color. Doesn’t move fast one bit. But never let that believe you that the oil is authentic and amazing. When I did try this, I couldn’t stand the taste or anything about the cartridge itself. We really couldn’t find anything positive about these old and fake cartridges.

This Fake Smart Cart has a horrible taste to it

This had to be the worst feature of this fake cartridge. The fist hit, it just tasted alright. But after the second and third, it just tasted disgusting. From hitting it to the after taste, it really did make me gag for a bit. We disposed of it after moments of hitting it.

Not very efficient and has a terrible hardware

First off, with this cartridge you do need either a specific battery or a mod/adapter. We aren’t too sure if it’s the same with the original Smart Carts yet. Regardless, with this fake one, the hardware wasn’t good at all. We tried using it with multiple batteries, from the Vessel Battery to an Elf but couldn’t screw on. This is because of the 510 thread, it was too thin.

Apart from that, this cartridge doesn’t even burn nice nor evenly. We did manage to find a battery that did fit, the E Leaf Pico. At first, we tried it with anywhere between 2-5 watts but couldn’t get a good hit. We aren’t sure if this is because of the thickness of the oil or because of the hardware of the cartridge itself. Either way, we bumped the watts up to 12W and hated this fake Smart Cart even more. We got a better taste of this cartridge and did not like it at all. It was so nasty, after a few hits, we trashed it.

How to identify Fake Smart Carts

There are various ways to identify a fake Smart Cart. But the key is if you don’t have the updated packaging, than you definitely have a fake with you. And if you do come across one of these, just throw it out and don’t risk your health. You never know if it contains harmful pesticides nor artificial flavors.

The first thing you should do is only get them at a legit dispensary. If you do not have a legit dispensary near you, look for smaller brands that are less likely to be fakes.

If you ever encounter these fake Smart Carts, we do not recommend you buy them at all. We’ve said this many times through out this article and will keep mentioning it again. You really can’t trust these fake cartridges, especially when you have no idea what’s in them. It’s not cool because people are unaware about this and believe some fakes are actually legit. Yeah some people may say that a few carts taste amazing and do get you high. But one day, you just might encounter a fake like the one I did, better yet worst. I didn’t even get high off of it just because I really couldn’t stand the taste. I hit it so few times, I felt the necessity to get rid of it.

We weren’t kidding when we said that we had to throw it out after just a few hits. We didn’t get the full experience of this particular fake Smart Cart just because we really couldn’t stand them. We do not recommend you smoke anything inauthentic or from the black market. Don’t get me wrong, some fake cartridges may taste great and get you baked. The only thing is that you really can’t trust them. They may contain anything from artificial flavors to dozens of pesticides.

Bottom line, they are all a fake brand, regardless of the oil that happens to be in that certain smart cart. They would be licensed and they aren’t at all

  7. I got one in lemonade that appears every but legitimate. The packaging had the snug seating, inner photograph liner, magnetic closure edge, hefty cart with the rubber/silicone, correct branding, and a gorgeously thick oil with a green line at the halfway mark on the tank. The threading is good, too. It blew my mind comparing it to the litany of black market ones I’ve gotten. That being said, the flavor isn’t on your list of real or fakes, could somebody confirm this flavor for me? The taste is weird, but not chemical wierd, just not a full lemonade flavor but I know citrus tastes are always a bit hard to pull off so that doesn’t worry me. I’m in a prohibition state, in the Southeast, so I can’t find out easily and don’t trust the bulk markets that pop up in online search results.

    • Go to a convenience store and buy and try a battery call The Kind Pen and it should work. The first time I tried a smart Cart it didn’t work on my old 510 thread battery, so my friend told me to try The Kind Pen and it worked. You can probably find it online too. Good luck.

    • Hey Johnny. It’s a common problem from time to time. I’ve found a quick fix as follows.
      There’s a small ring INSIDE the BOTTOM of the cart. Take the edge of a razor blade edge and gently work it around and reset it slightly up. It’s ok to have that gasket a little proud of the opening. It won’t make contact if it’s sunken.Then thread the pen and enjoy.**Works on all carts ***

  9. So I got 4 discontinued flavors in the new packaging. The cart itself says smart bud on the green trim ring and the mouthpiece is copper. Wish it worked with my openvape so I could give them a try.

  13. is pound cake real? its a hybrid and has a purple and pink packaging that says water clear distillate, at the top it says its a part of the clear edition smart cart at the too and says its a water refined vape at the bottom of water droplet. it looks like a clear oil and tastes pure with like brass knuckles but now knowing theres fake outs im not too sure

  14. I just purchased a “jungle punch”. Mouthpiece is copper and has proper packaging. But I dont see this flavor represented anywhere much less the authentic. Has a great juice flavor and hits like a champ.

  22. The picture at the top says copper is the fake one, you have it in the right hand position says real. On the left is the zinc alloy one and it’s said to be the fake one but it’s the real one.

  25. Just don’t buy these period. Got three in new packaging- FAKE! Blue Kush and wedding cake. Just one or two hits and did get high but along with headaches and fogginess. My friend’s symptoms lasted for hours. Hard to toss something you paid $$ for but just toss em. This crap will make you siiiiick. (Look into fake cartridges- big business and people are getting genuinely sick)
    And who cares the review isn’t “well written” … It’s true. Unless u got yours at a legit shop toss it.

  28. Anyone find a pink cartridge? Picked up white cookies and it has the new packaging and looks real, the cart however, does not. I saw that you can buy a 30 pack of them on a wholesale website.. can’t trust that for sure

    • Hi yes I have a pink one, and it taste good and I believe it’s real and the packaging is different so yes I believe mine is real and my friend told me that her dealer gets it from California dispensaries and I live in a state where marijuana is only legal if you have a medical marijuana card

    • This would be case to case, but in general that seed taste is probably coming from the oil and not the hardware. Given almost all are fake it is probably just that oil, but you know that means it most likely is “trim” based oil. Recently someone pointed that out about Select carts tasting like trim, and they do make it from trim.

  40. bought a few w new packaging today so far so good. Super sour Diesel, Jack Herrer, Wedding Cake, and GG#4. Guess it’s hit or miss, is there an actual website for the brand?

    • Are the smart cart exotic edition carts real? I got a “gushers” one and it seems legit. The oil is thick and it doesn’t taste weird but the packaging style is old

  42. Can anybody confirm, i heard that the owners of Smartbud and Packwoods got arrested and the business was taken down. The Smarbud cans and Packwoods cigars are harder to find now in NYC, we are getting some cans branded Lyft’d which is wack.

Yeah throw in all the information about the fakes out there but then to give it “2 Stars” based off YOU getting a fake cart- which I don’t understand if your preaching to buy from the source. I think a new review of the real official 2019 Smartbud Smartcart is needed- making the review legit giving the cart a fair chance. I’ve been using these carts for a while & trying all the popular brands definitely top 3. Try a real one for yourself

  59. Are there any other ways to tell if this is fake? Just bought Rose OG and Wedding Cake. Packaging is new (sturdy box that has a magnetic flip type cover and white foam padding on the inside)

    Has the “California Prop 215 Compliant SB 420 Section 11362.5 and 11362.7” on the back bottom.
    I can’t even find a legit website or social media for these guys!

  62. Have new box with padding (GR – Green Ribbon). Scratched the green coating off the (smartbud logo) cartridge and it’s zinc not copper plated. Tastes horrible and am wondering just how dangerous it is to consume.

  66. you guys honestly think getting new packaging and flavors will stamp out the fake cart game. Talk to China. They are already making clones of the new cart and new packaging styles. As long as China can rip everything off, and as long as people are motivated by money opportunities, there will be an issue of clone cartridges on the black market. If you know who you are getting it from and trust the source, the carts will be at a great discount for good quality.

  67. Hey y’all I just had a wedding cake vapor. Could get it to hit sooo, I unscrewed the end. Some oil ran on my finger! I’ve used drops cnd/the under tongue, so I wipe this oil on my tongue. 20 minute later I couldn’t hold my eyes open. Took a nap. When I woke I had a fever, sweats. Like the flue for 3 days now. Nobody around sick at all!!!
    Was I poisoned?

    • Omg same. Woke up in hot sweats because I was about to throw up in the middle of the night. After I emptied out my entire body, I had the chills, a fever, a shallow cough and zero appetite for 5 days!!! But the only difference is I didn’t come in contact with the oil to my knowledge. I was checking the blogs to see if anyone else became ill from these carts. Now I see all of the flavors I had on the fake list! Great!

  71. If it works and gets you lifted…who cares. As long as these assholes aren’t selling poison. In most cases, they cut the stuff with Hempseed oil, or they use a distillate and terpenes for flavor since so many terpenes for strains exist. They also said the flavors were discontinued, and the packaging, HOWEVER, I have seen those flavors in the new packaging at a dispensary so, I think they did bring them back. The easy way to check is to make sure the cart is copper, not zinc e-plate.

    • Pistachio is a nice Indica and like all Smartcarts, a hint of pistachio. Not like those Danks! The best imo, are SFV, Pistachio, Double Dream and Girl Scout cookie. I like almost all of them except that nasty Chocolope!!

  77. So I have the new packing look where it opens all nice and it says 2018 at the bottom and the carts still say Smart Cart not Smart Bud. The flavor/strain to bee car is wedding cake thanks for any info

    • The new hardware is better so that is good, but the actual real Smart Cart company is so small that if you are not getting it at a dispensary, it’s probably a fake. However, if the plug puts good oil in it it still can be good.

  79. So what if you have new packages with wedding cake did they bring it back ? Was it discontinued after the new packaging ? Have new package that is WC and the cart itself doesn’t have the green leaf . Taste and all is good though

  81. The padded packages are the old ones guy…look at the bottoms they will be dated 2018. The slim ones are newer..look at their IG. Still not a way to tell if they are legit if you are in a black market state.

    Bad info here all over here. The authentic flavors you posted are FLOWER variants not OIL. They don’t make the same strains for oil and flower
